Avalon at Northbrook Apartments Reviews

This place is a horrible show of how management can ruin an apartment complex. They fired all the decent maintenance people. Management doesn't do anything. The fridge and dishwasher are broke and leak. The windows do not insulate at all you can feel a draft through every single window in the apartment and when they were made aware of this we were told it's the cleaning companies fault. Ah yes and do not trust the hours that they're "in office" because they won't necessarily be in office according to a worker there. I urge anyone to leave a 1 star review on these horribly run apartments.

The apartments themselves are very nice, great units. The grounds however have no useful walking paths (all the sidewalks lead to someones door), no dog park, no usable green space. There are also a ton of bugs which to be fair, they warn you about upfront and offer bug service if you can remove your pet all day (no dog park).

By far the worst part though is the office staff. Price goes up if you don't instantly sign a lease, they won't honor online posted prices. To view the apartment we were handed the keys and sent on our way, had to ask for a map. We received no information on the utilities when we moved in and since we are not from Fort Wayne we have no idea who the utility providers are.

We have been here about a week and already we have a notice on our door stating we owe more money because they "forgot a fee." I wanted to double check what I've already paid but we haven't received a copy of the lease we signed.

By the way, if you're upset about the absurd application fees, ask for a waiver, they will say no but then you have to sign a form stating that you received no concessions, so clearly they do waive the fees sometimes. Frustrating experience for two applicants with great credit, no derogatory history, and plenty of income.

Why did we move here after all this? Unfortunately there isn't much choice when you need a garage and a have a larger dog, we also did not have the luxury of time as we needed to move asap.

Oh, and if you work anything but a 9-5 job, don't plan on using the gym here, costs $50 for an after hours key fob and $5 monthly on top of your $1100 rent. Just go to planet fitness across the street for real equipment @ $10/ month.

Nasty pool, bugs everywhere. Not worth the time. Management is disrespectful and don't do their job. Way over priced. Been robbed twice while living there.

My mom called for information about potentially renting an apartment at Avalon (she actually called twice. she left a message the first time earlier in the day, but it wasn't returned (it was around lunch time, so possibly understandable), and so called a second time and got an answer), and asked to come and look at an example apartment. The person on the phone said that was fine, and that himself, as well as two other people, would be there, and someone would be able to show her around. She told him that we would be there within the half hour, and he said that was fine.

When we arrived, my mom went into the office first while I stayed behind in the car to finish up with a phone call. When I went in a few minutes later, I found her alone. She said that there was no one there in the office, that she had peeked into all of the other offices and couldn't find anyone inside the building, but that there were three employees (they were wearing dark-colored professional looking shirts, anyway) sitting and chatting just outside the glass door to the pool. At least one was smoking. We lingered for a while longer, looking out the window at the pool and sort of milling about the clubhouse, but no one came back inside or otherwise acknowledged us, even though I'm sure that we were in the line of sight of at least one of them. Finally, my mom decided not to waste her time any longer, and we left. I'm unsure whether they ever knew we had been there, though, like I said, it seems like we would've been visible to them through the glass door (unless it's tinted on the outside, which seems even less responsible if they can't keep an eye on the office when they are outside).

We've looked at several other apartments in the area in various price ranges, and this was the only one that we've had any customer service issues with. We told them we would be there within the half hour (and we were), so they should've been expecting us. Also, if there are three people on duty, you would think that at least one of them would stay in the office, regardless if they knew someone would be stopping by or not. Or at least keep an eye on the office to see if anyone is inside. There was also a UPS delivery person making a delivery at the same time while we were walking out. And yes, we could have opened the door and let them know that we were there, but honestly, we didn't feel like we should have to, and at a certain point, we were sort of turned off by the whole thing (in my mom's words, she was "shocked and disappointed), and even if they had come in at that point, it made her feel more unsure about how available they would be or willing they would be to address any concerns she would have as a renter. Which is unfortunate, because even though my mom had found two other apartments that she liked, she still wanted to look at Avalon because of the good things she had heard, and the photos on the website (and the proximity to her grandkids).

Not a good tour. The place smelled bad truly bad. We are looking elsewhere.

Lived here for 8 months. Apartment was not ready on day of move-in (dirty, unfinished, etc.). Office staff are bad about responding to emails. Sent email to alert them that cigarette smoke was coming in from another apartment and they never responded or did anything about it. Exteriors of apartments are very dirty. Had major water pressure issues repeatedly. Repairs are done poorly and need repeated requesting for correct repairing. Looks like it used to be nice, but has been very poorly taken care of. For the price and quality, best to shop around a bit.

Not ready apartment at move in, not efficient heat and A/C, rude employees, loud neighbors and paper walls, dirty overall look, cheap design, expensive, go and find a nicer place, you thank me later

I have lived at Avalon for a while now and I have nothing bad to say about it. The location is great and the price is fair for the area. Staff is always professional and has been nothing but helpful ever since I moved in. Maintenance could be a bit faster when it comes to response times but I guess thats to be expected with a larger complex. Would recommend, dont take to heart all the reviews toy see.

Lived here for two years, loved everything about Avalon. The maintance and other staff are great, never had any problems. A little pricey but well worth the money.

Love this place!! Amazing location close to everything! Love my apartment! Everyone is do nice! Amazing neighbors! Love the movie theater in in the clubhouse I can use anytime, indoor basketball court and fitness center! Feel safe! Great area of Ft Wayne
