We (2 adults + 3 kids under 7) had a great tour. We did a 45 min group tour, we were fortunate enough to join the group which started about 30 after arriving. Our tour guide, Tom, was exceptional. Did a great job keeping the tour moving, and there was something for adults and kids. Really neat experience, our kids got a lot out of it too.

Recommended. Free entry. Free underground parking unless you are there for over two hours. Parking spots hard to come by. We parked there and walked to Old Parliament House. Informative. Great portraiture.

Visited parliament house just over two months ago, for the third time! The parliament house still never fails to amuse me, with it's great architecture, and it's interesting facts! The people managing the place are very nice and considerate also!

Today also marks an interesting day for the parliament house for the election.

Good place to spend a few hours. Plenty of great paintings of former prime ministers. I really liked the one of Paul Keating. Also plenty of history. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had gotten a tour.

I might despair sometimes about the state of our politics but I can't fault the House itself. Its airy brightness and the sincere passion of all its staff renews my sense of optimism in democracy. So awesome to see such important documents of national significance like Australia's Apology to its Indigenous Peoples. Don't miss out on the free guided tour (thanks Marie!) or the walk on the rooftop that reminds us as ever that the people stand above the parliament. And if you need a sweetener after all the politics, the cafe serves a mean coffee and cassis pannacotta.

Really loved it, surprisingly had lots of interesting rooms, sections and insightful. Interesting information and portraits of past prime ministers was great. What a lovely ambience it offers from the large spaces to great architectural designs. Although crowded there was lots of space to accommodate.

A must visit place in Canberra, this is a window to understand Australian political culture, and it is also a perfect unity of architectural art, arts and crafts and decorative arts. It is located on the top of the capital and is magnificent under Canberra's crisp blue sky.
It is very convenient to drive from the city, and there is a spacious underground parking lot. Out of the parking lot, in the open square in front of the building, the Capitol stands tall, with flags fluttering and extraordinary momentum. In addition to various halls and conference facilities, the building also has some historical exhibits and portraits of successive prime ministers, which are very interesting in detail. We happened to meet the rehearsal of the opera "Ferriello's Wedding". The melodious singing and piano sounds are especially wonderful in this solemn space.
There are many rest areas in the building, as well as cafes and souvenir shops, where visitors are given full respect and a sense of participation. If they happen to meet in the Senate and House of Representatives, visitors can also sit in the auditorium to listen to the debate between the Prime Minister and the Ministers.

Beautiful modern architecture, unlike others.

Beautiful modern architecture, unlike others.
Entry is free, but you'd need to pay for parking. Peaceful and quiet inside. You could spend an hour or two strolling through and seeing various exhibits.

Cool place, amazing building and awesome views. The visit is free however you have to go through a security check before entering the building. With a small line, it took us around 10 minutes to enter the building. There's free parking outside during weekends and guided tours for the building but we didn't have much time to do it.

Love the opportunity to basically wander around our Parliament House. Helpful staff and plenty to learn about how our government works. Good to see the Official statement of PM Rudd to our Indigenous Australians and the Magna Carta. (And the lego parliament was pretty impressive).

Australians all let us rejoice, for we are young and free!!! This is where the magic happens folks! Remember that time when that politician did that thing?! That was probably here! If you love Australia (and by God I hope you do!) then this place is probably partly responsible for making it the grand country it is today! It s a unique looking place, not much else around like it. It s actually a lot larger than it looks (pretty sure it s the largest Parliament House in the Southern Hemisphere I think I heard) and it s an interesting place to go and soak up some Australian history! Highlights include having a geeze at the portraits of Prime Ministers past and getting a look at the lower house and upper house in the flesh! Can you think of anything more exciting? So that s it folks, if you re in Canberra (and why wouldn t you be, what a swell place) then at least make sure you check out Parliament House, by shelia you re country will thank you!

I would like to share my last visit to the most beautiful building (Australian parliament house). It was an amazing experience to visit this interesting building. The building is a graceful and deeply symbolic piece of architecture sitting atop Capitol Hill. If you are thinking of a tour in a place that offers its visitors with a wide range of views, then you might conceder taking this trip! But I strongly recommend you look for a guided tour as the guides there are very informative and knowledgeable and they have a sense of humour, especially towards kids. If you are thinking to make the most of your trip then think of staying at least three hours there. Don t worry too much about parking as it is free for the first two hours and then you pay just $3.10 for the next two hours, which is very cheap. I highly recommend you go and explore this amazing place.

Amazing architecture, the fact that anyone can go and see what happens inside this building is the best example of open government and democracy in its best implementation.

I was surprised with "old fashioned" voting system, first attempt by voice: they have to shout yes or no and computer recognises it somehow. But if it didn't they have to sit on the left side who support the proposition and on the right who don't. This might be time consuming but it the only way to see truth.

Parliament House is the heart of Australian democr...

Parliament House is the heart of Australian democracy. This is one of the rare Parliament buildings in the world open to the public.

The design of the building belonged to a New York-based architectural firm called Mitchell / Giurgola & Thorp, which was selected from more than 320 blueprints from around the world. Unlike the Parliament buildings in many other countries that are designed to show power or show national political trends, the Australian Parliament building is designed to be open to many of the country's natural features. Instead of residing on a high hilltop, which would feel imposing on the people, the building was built at the bottom of the hill, on flat land, showing a welcoming and intimacy. the people of the government.

The front yard of the building is 196 m2 wide by artist Michael Nelson Jagamara designed and decorated according to mosaic art. Michael shared the meaning of the mosaic on the yard is a reflection of the dreams and dreams of the Australian people and the Australian government. It is also the duty of the government, always putting the interests of the country first and realizing the dreams of the people.
The Great Lobby was considered the face of the building. This is a space that welcomes tourists to visit. At the same time, whenever there is an event held in the front yard, the lobby is the backstage, where the cameras are always facing. Because of that important role, the Great Hall was decorated with luxurious materials. Part of the sidewalk outside the entrance is paved with red Christmas Bush granite, transported from Oberon. The facade wall is paved with Italian Paradise White Carrara marble.

Going inside is the Lobby completely decorated with marble, so it is also called the Marble Lobby. There are 48 columns of blue and pink marble, representing the color of the land plants in Australia. These are also the two typical colors of the two House of Representatives and the Australian Senate meeting room. Part of the green stone is the Italian Cipollino marble, while the pink stone is the Atlantide Rosa marble of Portugal. The floor below is decorated with spheres, hemispheres, triangles and paved with Paradise White marble and Belgian black granite. The special thing about these granite slabs is that inside them are filled with fossils of marine plankton dating back about 345 years such as: corals, moths, lilies, etc. and they are completely visible. visible to the naked eye. The wall is paved by 20 pieces of mosaic wood with many decorative motifs imitating the country's iconic plants. The two staircases are also paved with marble shaped on the shape of Australian tree seeds by sculptor Anne Ferguson.

Up to the Great Hall is the place where solemn welcoming, banquet or national events take place. The entire hall space is paved with many types of precious woods such as birch, brushbox, eucalyptus, ebony. In addition to typical Australian woods, in which, ebony is a gift from Papua New Guinea. There is also one of the largest tapestries in the world with an area of 20x9 meters, depicting the scenery of the eucalyptus forest by Australian artist Arthur Boyd.

In addition, inside the National Assembly building, there are also the meeting rooms of the Senate and the House of Representatives, the Lounge and a gallery of excellent art works. In addition, if you are interested, you can sit in a specially designed room to watch the Australian politicians' questioning.
