This was a great experience after the horrible time at Austin Peta Alive, the animal are well taken care of , the staff are friendly and helpful , and they really want to find forever home for each animals
The animals here seem very well cared for and happy. They have many dogs to choose from and cats as well. Wish I could take them all home!
I adopted a dog there named cookie and he's the best friend I could as for
Had an really great experience adopting our dog here. The staff was super helpful and knowledgable. Facilities were clean and easy to navigate.
Might have to wait a while but the staff is so nice and sweet. U can bet your pet will be loved and takin care of.
AAC does amazing work and is a great public organization.
Very good deals, I recommend this place. The animals are very healthy.
I have huge respect for the volunteers and employees here. Amazing shelter, most importantly they don t put any animals down.
The facility is clean for the most part. The only thing I would say is, dont bother with this place. You could pick out all the dogs and then suddenly they're all adopted. You have a better bet of adopting through the SPCA or a legit craigslist ad.
Wonderful staff. Found my new dog here and I m picking her up tonight!!
We had a great experience, everyone was friendly and helpful, I definitely recommend this place!
I love this business plus they are doing more then these idiots who are too poor to live in California so they moved here pretending they are so much better then everyone. Great staff great reason
Such a organized smooth process. Very friendly, cleanest shelter I've been too
Great shelter with a good vibe. Only suggestion would be actually update the site, since it says you do everywhere it would be helpful if it actually happened, and maybe consider having a phone with the ability to talk with people who don t live close, which is probably a lot of people.
The wait was long on a Saturday evening as expected. But, it was worth it for our pup Luna ! They have a lot of wonderful dogs and cats. The staff is was amazing!
Great we got a puppy but could get the bigger puppy at the same time, we understood why thru....great caring staff.
My dog has a chip but they never call us found out they had her and went to check it out but they gave her away without calling me firts there was no reason for them to do that my dog has a micro chip and they didnt even bother to call me worst thing that ever happen to me
Found the best dog for our family !! Process was super simple and quick.
I have no words. They do a great job adopting pets out, but not keeping promises to potential adopters.
Extremely happy and helpful employee. even at minutes till close was absolutely a joy. Also my pet was chipped and treated for any fleas. Both lexa and buddy were captured from their love affair runaway and treated wonderful till returned.
Thanks
Nations #1 non kill shelter. You'll read a lot of negative comments. However over 8,000 adoptions a year, is a number you should consider while reading few negative reviews.
I've seen a great effort from everyone.
Especially the volunteers and Friends of austin animal shelter Organisation
They save animals & also take care medically. Ive fostered for them since 2017.
Added a member of the family. Not easy to find staff. Really needs donations for all the sweet babies.
Is legit and they take care of animals with much much love
Wow We go Gemma (Aka Gemini ) Dec 15. She had a few issues, we worked through them she has become the most amazing, loving, protective beat friend ever. She is truly love and we are BLESSED.
I didn't visit there was a wild parakeet near the Austin library that I called to see if they would pick up and they actually called back really quickly and we're willing to do so but another person decided to adopt it that said she could take care of it they seem really great.
Very knowledgeable, helpful people I talked with Cally was great!
First my cat was dropped off by my neighbor and finally found on the brink of death in this facility.
I demanded my cat get treatment brought on by this facility, only to be greeted by an over-sized human who thought she could bully me out of my conviction that my cat be seen by the vet. The vet hid like a coward and never did anything.
The next story, would be these fascist giving me a giant, paraplegic Pitbull when I never owned a dog. They actually were laughing at me. Thinking it was funny to give someone like me a dog they already decided would be dead.
I have owned 6 cats in my 30 years, and they all lived past 20 yrs of age.
I would have liked to see the dog live the same life, but I am certain, he is dead by euthanasia by Lake Austin Animal Center.
I have photos and will share my story with any journalist looking for truth!
This place is awesome! We ve gotten both of our dogs here!
We love this place. The animals are all treated very nice. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. My favorite part was that you can go into any cage/pen and pet or play with the animals. All of the dogs have leashes nearby so you can take any of them for walks, as well. Great environment.
We even found our two puppies here. They are an awesome Rottweiler/Great Dane mix, and a cute little shepherd mix.
Staff was amazing! I spent hours there, getting to know dozens of kitties before finally coming home with our now-beloved Daisy. Clean, well lit facility, full of happy, healthy four legged friends looking for a home.
Staff is SUPER nice, helpful & friendly. Soooo happy they are there to help with lost/found animals. Will donate as often as I can....Thank You!!
Friendly staff. The only issue is a ling wait time.
We love Austin Animal Center. Our Rocko (white) is from there so we went visit the place to see and play with other dogs for a while. The staff is very nice and the place is in great conditions. Adopt-dont-buy!
Always a great place to visit and donate supplies or time to!
Very clean facility with amazing people. You're sure to find your new bff with ease
It's awesome working here, careers opportunities... A chance to love your profession and live a happy life
I found a lost (possibly abandoned) dog that I couldn't keep. I was feeling so guilty about taking it to a shelter, but luckily Austin Animal Center is different than most. The woman who registered the lost and frightened pup was so good and patient with her. The AAC system seems very efficient and organized. I have no doubt that whether its owners are looking for it or someone is looking to adopt, the pup will find its way home very soon - thanks to AAC!
I asked for records of my dogs that had
Been fixed and had chips put in but the
Girl there told me they didnt have them
I wanted to renew them to find my lost
Dog my name Victor thomas. Victory
All of the animals were being taken care of properly and getting regular walks and keep in their cages clean
They answered my questions but somehow thought I wanted to give up my 2 Chihuahuas and that wasnt the case.
I guess I'll give them 4 stars. I'm not sure how to rate a place that I didn't want anything to do with. Ok so the place was clean (from what little I saw) and my dog was returned safely (all that matters!).
This is by far the best adoptive pet shelter I have found. Very clean. And everyone is very helpful.
I loved this place because there's where I found 2 hairy kids...boy and girl..Junior and Liza
The dogs are well taken care of some are even placed with a furry companion which is good for socialization. Just make sure to get in line as soon as you get there if you intend to adopt so your pick does not get adopted before you. (It happened to me)
I came here with my brother and son. We came to give time and share some love to the pets with no family but but in return they gave us comfort.
This was a huge facility. They love their pets and it shows.
Visited here and were so impressed! The staff and volunteers were so friendly. There are so many dog looking for homes and you can walk a "green dot" dog as a visitor which is awesome!
This place is crawling with worms and parasites and the employees will not tell you that. If you get a cat from here do not believe them when they say that their cats are dewormed.
I adopted two kittens from here and was told that they had that they had both been dewormed and had no known health issues. A week later they both became extremely ill, one was on the brink of death and needed intensive care. I found out they both (cats who were from two different litters) had massive parasite infestations including tapeworm, ringworm, and hookworm.
I would have taken happily taken them knowing they had these problems but I would have started treatment for them the day I got them as dewormers are not that expensive.
Animal center is receiving this review because after doing extensive research my cats issues could have easily been alleviated had the shelter been upfront about the possibly of parasites and had taken more steps to run a sanitary organization. Instead they told me my cat was just naturally small, causing her to go through needless suffering until she showed symptoms that would prompt treatment.
Animals are well cared for and the staff is super friendly
Literally the worst experience I've ever had. I asked for help multiple times and the ladies didn't bother to help what so ever. They were too concerned with eating at their desks and eating and listening to music. I went outside not knowing where the small dogs were and asked politely for where the small dogs were and the worker just replied with attitude "everywhere" and acted as if I bothered her for asking. Then she rudely told me dogs smaller than 20 pounds were inside. DONT go to this shelter. Go to animal defense league in San Antonio.
They were ready for my fur babies. I fell they are in good hands and will find the best homes for them. This place was highly recommended.
I recently adopted a rescue rabbit from AAC. Everyone was so helpful and friendly during the adoption process. I was unable to take my rabbit home until he was neutered, but they were really good about answering any questions I had in preparation for his homecoming.
The grounds are clean and well maintained. I would highly recommend anyone adopting here.
Everyone was always very helpful, wonderful opportunities to get to know the pets before you adopt. Love that you can walk them and even walk into their room.
Love AAC! We have adopted from here with no hassles or followup. The animals are very well taken care of, and you can handle and play with mist of them. They have bunnies!!!
I found a stray yellow labrador retriever that was injured and they came out right to my vet and picked her up. They are taking good care of her, dewormed her, and are giving her surgery tomorrow. Great care for a stray, and I'm glad she'll find a much better place to live than where she was.
The staff was awesome and I'm happy with my adoption.
If you are looking for an animal shelter that is no-kill, professional, and exemplifies the Austin spirit, look no further. I work as an Animal Enrichment Volunteer, so I am able to witness the in's and out's of the facility. The staff are extremely professional and they make the adoption process very easy. The kennels are wonderfully maintained and it shows that the local government values the shelter's presence because it continually is being upgraded. Some of my happiest moments in this city have taken place at the shelter, and to me, it's a little slice of heaven.
Adopted my dog from there and they help out and told me everything i need to know they were very helpful and answered all my questions they even answer my 3 year-old questions.
From an external perspective, it seems like they really take care of the animals and the community they serve. The staff is very friendly and customer-oriented. The play rooms for socializing with potential animals are a plus
Awesome amazing place staff and volunteers were super nice
Great place to adopt. Great and caring customer service. They care about the animals!!
Great animal shelter. Very clean and friendly workers/volunteers.
Clearly y all don t actually care about the well being of the animals under your care, you have amazing workers there doing great things for the dogs that need homes by promoting them in a positive light that grants them an opportunity to be seen by a larger audience and better their chance at a forever home but rather than encouraging this, because it does indeed FIND HOMES FOR THE DOGS the higher ups are ruining this, y all should be discussed and ashamed of your selfs for Punishing your employees for helping find these dogs homes. It s unprofessional and the dogs deserve better than this. Do better and allow for the dogs to be advertised so we can find homes for the babies who need it. Clearly this place needs better management and leads who actually care.
They really treat their animals kindly and clean areas for the animals.
I love this place. Everyone talks about pets alive, but that place is filthy. The dogs are kept in such unsanitary areas. At the Animal Center, it is incredibly clean considering they have way more animals on site than others'. Love this place!
Brought home Kittie! She's fixed, dewormed, defleaed, microchipped, and vaccinated for $75! Best deal for Kitty healthcare and her well-being. Thank you for taking care of her!
A wonderful place with the best care and attention for animals. I'm not sure if I'll ever adopt from anywhere else. No kill shelter and extremely affordable or free adoption fees.
The staff are excellent and very patient because they know this is a life long commitment and they are not strict on the adoption they just really want to find a forever home for these animals and they go above and beyond to make this happen and I'm very excited to have found my forever pet she fits in perfectly with us we all love her very much and just don't give up on finding your pet the shelter gets animals every day and this is the best place to come adopt they have so much variety of dogs and cats and even rabbits.
Found an amazing dog here and all of the staff I interacted with were kind and helpful. Facility is clean and kept nice. Staff do a good job of leaving notes about the dogs even if they ve only had them a short time so that you can hear what they are like.
