My friend and I went to look at dogs. They are organized, have friendly staff, maps to get around, cages for you to play with the animals first to see their temperament or how they behave around you. The animals spaces are color coded so you know which animals you need help with or which ones are ready for walks.

They were extremely. Very few of the staff seemed over worked and distracted. For the most part I had a great experience with the exception of a few. My kitten is missing and I have been distressed. Some of them could have been a little bit more compassionate. I will still come back. Those fur babies need us.

The facilities are incredibly well maintained, and the animals look like they are getting everything they need. The staff is also very passionate to help as best as they can for all the animals regardless of how cuddly they are.

The shelter is clean and the animals look well cared for. However the day we were there, they were overflowing with dogs (maybe cats, too), had a special adoption fee offer on, so they also had a lot of people. We had to wait 70+ minutes for adoption, so perhaps they could get more volunteers on board for events like this. Yet they are to be commended for what seems to be good care and being a no-kill shelter. We adopted a puppy.

Awesome staff, extremely helpful and kind.. it's always a full house as far as the animals go, and they are constantly having special events where they waive adoption fees.. I completely support this business, and have adopted a gem of a cat from here and plan on coming back for my second.. what a great place standing for such a great cause!

I went today for the free adoption just looking to see if I could find a dog I liked I fell in love with all the furry babies but one special little fur baby named Fiona caught my eye and I adopted her they gave me the greatest experience everything was fast and my new furry baby met her new family and she is just perfect thank you guys you gave us the greatest gift!

You have the power to impact your local neighborhoods. These knowledgeable lovely people are there to handle a crazy number of appointments everyday and help you meet the pup for you. My experience was great, but there really aren t that many dogs needing rescue even in a high kill state such as Texas. I can t find a sub 10lb female pupper (tea cup size) for the life of me! 4 weeks counting. All med - large dogs. I m holding out hope but I wish there was a waiting list for pre-qual people... call me / email when the best fit for me is available!!

Could not get in, but they did have signs guiding us towards adoption process.. just unfortunate because there was no traffic and no risk of contamination at the precinct judging by the lack of visitors inside and the emptiness of the parking lot. I'm am greatful they are taking nessesary precautions but I can't seem to fathom how they aren't able to open to the public following the state mandated guidelines ?

I went to the shelter to adopt a dog this past Sunday which was free adoption . I arrived about 5PM and was told that I couldn't adopt because of a shortage of staff. They didn't close until 7pm but there was many people ahead of me to adopt and it has been cut off today. I then asked if I come Monday could I still take advantage of the free adoption. I was told that I'd have to pay. I said that sucks and left disappointed. I was with my sister who just got released from a nursing home and just needed a companion dog. She is on a limited budget and still in the need for a companion dog. We will look at another opportunity in another animal shelter.

This is a really well put together shelter full of staff who really care about their animals. I loved every second of being there and you can tell the animals in their care are well loved and well cared for.

If you're looking for a forever friend, give the folks down at AAC a visit! They have plenty of animals waiting for their perfect person and the staff there would be more than happy to help you find that perfect match.

Very clean and helpful! Go give them a visit today!

While I love the place, when there is noone there and they make you call a number to get in a wait list is kinda silly. The staff is a little rude as well about it. I called and the wait was 6 minutes. I'm sure the list is not really all that necessary. But I'm going to wait and get my pup a friend

Thier handlers could use a little more training on how to help people. Yelling at me from a distance not to do something vs coming closer and asking if I could use assistance would have provided a nicer experience. I know thier busy but a 'Pardon me but can I help you' sounds much better than 'Hey, don't do that!' any day.

Well my brothers dog jumped the 6ft fence around new Year out of panic.
We live in pflugerville he ended up in Lockhart.
The Austin animal center took him in,gave him all his shots, implanted a chip and neutered him.
When him and I went to pick his dog up they did not charge him for any of it.

This place is so clean amd the dogs are awesome. The staff are really nice but the waiting time for adoption can be hours. Be prepared. Bring food and drink as there are no cafeteria. Just some vending machines. But otherwise it is a really nice place with a huge variety of pets for all flavors.

This is the most beautiful pet shelter in the country. My husband and I adopted a dog 4 years ago, and she became the first member of our family.
We moved to NY, and this week we came to visit Austin.
As part of our visit we took our toodler to see the center to teach her about rescue and adoption.
We will be always thankful of this place. The volunteers have huge hearts, and make this place feel like home for so many animals.

I love that they help animals but I don t like the customer service. Anytime I go I feel like a criminal because of their demeanor towards me. I adopted a german shepherd Doberman mix puppy from here but unfortunately it died from distemper almost 2 weeks after I adopted her. I took her to the vet twice in that time and both times the Vet thought it was kennel cough and gave her medicine and injected fluids because she was so dehydrated. Unfortunately she passed away.

Awesome place to start looking for a family pet! You can walk dogs with green stickers on their info cards with no supervision! Gets you good 1 on 1 time with the dogs and they get attention too!

Came to adopt a cat. Of all the city shelters I've seen, this is one boasts the best facility. Wide, open, and full of natural light, this facility is in great condition to house many animals. The staff is patient and understanding, especially during high load times.

Adoptable animals are well laid out, and well documented information is available at a glance at their cages. Staff is knowledgeable and can get you more information on desired animals in request.

I lost my dog within 2 hrs of putting up fliers someone called and had taken my dog to this shelter. I arrived early the next morning and found Misty alone but cared for in a single crate. They had already given her shots and did not charge me because she had been spayed. Thank you Austin Animal Center for taking care of my Misty!
