This place is quite silent with a eerie feeling. The people over here are from all nations and it gives you the feeling that you are in a foreign land. The place is huge with lots of trees. This place is a nice place to visit to enjoy the silence and talk a walk around. The cafeteria over here had a different variety of menu which can be tried once.

We had to walk alot but it was fun as we came across alot of plots and trees quiet a few number of cafes available within to hog , a shop or two for shopping which I personally felt were too expensive.
I love the place for it's silence and the introduction video session they gave us right in the beginning. And the purpose of this place is beautifully explained.

We did manage to find transport facility way back to our starting point.

Visitor center is the place with need to go to get the pass for the maitiri mandir. You need to see the video about the history and formation of the society nad then need to get the pass. It's open for full day in weekdays and only on Sunday open for half day.

Good place to spend half a day. Very well managed and organised. Kalki boutique and Mira Boutiques are a must visit to buy souveniers, linen and cotton garments, jewellery, bags, perfumes, candles, agarbattis, essential oils, beauty products etc. Ladies just love the above Boutiques and once they go inside don't expect them to come out for the next one to two hours All the products for sale are made by the members of Auroville at Auroville itself.
The Bakeries at the visitor center serve good variety of products that are grown organically in Auroville. I liked their Tuna Sandwich and Banana Lassi.
Matrimandir (The Golden Meditation Globe) is a beautiful sight to see but they don't allow visitors to go close or go inside. One has to register 24 hrs prior to do so by going there in person.
Don't expect things like passing by the houses or colonies of members/citizens, their way of life, interaction with them to satisfy your spiritual curiosity etc of the inhabitants of Auroville once you are in their premises. Due to lack of association, sighting of their lives, their meditational process and interaction with the citizens of Auroville one lacks the spiritual connect with the place for which some people like me go there. However it's a good experience and the atmosphere there is very soothing and relaxing.

There is a lot to this township than what they show in the visitor's center
Following fully sustainable and barter system as a way of living
It's worth going there to see how people live in so much peace and harmony
The area as whole is huge and apart from Mantra Mandir they have so much more from sound museum to small handicraft shops and eateries
Wouldn't recommend for group of college people
To get inside mantri Mandir one has to get a prior permission

Waste place, should walk a lot.

Waste place, should walk a lot.
They will not leave us inside the golden ball or meditation centre, people who are not interested in places like these can happily skip it.

Very helpful staff. Lots of information you can get from here. Also, here you can watch a 30 minutes' video about the making of the Auroville Matrimandir. The show is free and everyone can watch.

Good

Worst place in Pondicherry.

Worst place in Pondicherry.
There's no prior notice that the services are closed immediately after lunch on a weekend. On a weekend.! That's when you expect your visitors.
Besides even after a long walk to the globe, there is absolutely nothing to see.. even the fencing is high and gates were closed.. a total waste of time ..
I repeat..
THERE IS NOTHING HERE.. ITS A WATSE OF YOUR TIME.. MOREOVER PLACE LOOKS CREEPED OUT.. DO NOT VISIT HERE..

It was like a microcosmos to the world, with people from everywhere, speaking a whole variety of languages, and bringing in so many interesting and different cultural, social and personal views and understandings. But this also made it, at times, difficult for people to get along they did not have enough in common, did not share enough of the same customs and sensibilities to connect, and, alongside the wonderful diversity, I would also see groups of the same ethnic origin sticking together and not venturing beyond their kin.
