When it came time to put my beloved dog down I went to the ASPCA. The vet that attended her was the most sympathetic professional I have ever met. He treated my very sick dog with dignity, care and was very gentle with her. He made a most difficult experience a little easy for me and for my dog.

ASPCA had one of their adoption center cat cars last week on Saturday 19th at 81st st and 37th ave in Jackson heights. There were two women outside talking endlessless with each other - nothing about what the service was about because everyone could hear what they were talking - and when I interrupted to get information, one of the white woman looked at me nastly and gave me information with retaliations like ...you need $150 to adopt . You cannot adopt without it. You need a federal ID...you cannot have without it....when I went home to get what she asked for, I called her very excited to get my interview and she nastly again told me that my cat had already taken- and I didn't tell her what cat I wanted - and gave me her back. Disrespectful, unprofessional and not polite over all. If volunteer or staff. They have to have a better approach of our community. Will never stop by in ASPCA cars in my hood. I've sent a message at the same day to aspca and they never responded back.

This place in the veterinary hospital area is morally unethical. Shame on them I brought my pet in for s small wound and they wanted a 1000 dollars to fix it. I spoke with their regular vets in both Virginia and Florida and they said for one bight wound it should be no more then 250. The vet was rude and obnoxious I was upset at the price and when I initially took my dog in they said no problem for clipping their nails. The doctor explained she was on my side but they may not have time to clip their nails. After telling me three times about how she was a licensed vet and couldn't guarantee my pets health I said please don't tell me that again, I heard you and I know. Only go here if you are seriously wealthy and want to put your dog in for a surgery they don't need, and cost you can't afford, because after all they are on your side, just like used car salesmen and crooked attorneys all on your side while taking your hard earned money. As a side note when I checked out I had already paid the whopping $85.00 exam fee, but the receptionist told me the bill with the exam fee. I said a little upset you already charged me for that, which she said don't talk to me like that. She had to make me wait and ask her manager. I found the receipt and hoped the less the competent and unorganized rude staff didn't over charge me. By the way I'm going to write to the better business bureau and if you have to go here get. A second opinion get it in writing and don't believed their sales staff parading as vets. I am disgusted and two days before Christmas.

I just got my perfect, beautiful kitten yesterday! The process was quick and easy, and everyone was so nice and informative. Thank you ASPCA, for helping me find my dream kitten! She's adjusting wonderfully, no doubt from the wonderful care and love they give all of the animals beforehand. Its an amazing place! I 101% recommend it, if you want to find someone to give a forever home!

These people make it really hard to Adopt a pet. I went in today and was ready to take the dog home i wanted to suprise my family was told they had to be at the Adoption center in order for me to Adopt. So i Paid a $30 cab for my family to go to the center. A lady went in way after me and once my family got there they say sorry shes going to Adopt the puppy. Like that s really unfair i was there before her. Then they have dogs on reserve so makes it so we really have no options. I was disappointed. 0 stars

I got a puppy and he had severe behavioral problems and it's because the staff has the puppies used to that. They let the puppies chew and eat cardboard and chew on the fence. They run around in their poop. Then the staff expects me to teach the 3 month old puppy to unlearn these bad habits all by myself because they told me they stopped doing puppy lessons. After paying about $300, I have to pay more for outside classes because the staff couldn't correct his behavior beforehand. I had to return him because he was eating the paint from the walls and even though I sprayed with apple cider and he had a ton of chew toys, he persisted. So to avoid him getting sick, I returned him, but it's unfair because I really wanted him but he was very difficult to handle. Training him with treats weren't working either because at the shelter they have the tendency to give the dogs treats to calm them down or distract them not as an reward.

Lots of dogs they showed me, but the ones they did show me were being evaluated as they say. They steered me away from younger dogs and showed me some older ones. The adoption process is quite involved. Be ready to answer a ton of questions and provide references. I did not walk out that day with the dog. I went to northshore. Staff was great , though I found some to be less knowelagble than others . Very crowded on Saturday. Most of their dogs were rescue dogs and are pitbull mixes. I have one and could not be happier

The most kind and thoughtful animal adoption program I've been to. And if your little or big pookie or kitty is not feeling well, the @ASPCA's staff & veterinarians are very caring and will let you & your furry one feel @ ease when visiting.

I adopted a cat almost two years ago. It was listed as a spayed female and a neutered male 5 to 6 years of age. It was also listed as healthy with a cold and felv/fiv negative. When I received the intact male, he was 7 lbs and visibly underweight. I nursed him back to health and got him to almost 11 lbs, a healthy weight for him. Also had him neutered and his teeth addressed as he stopped eating. Keeping weight on him has been a challenge and this last run, we were referred to a specialist that suggested testing him for felv/fiv, as the mouth issues could be related. He has now tested positive for FIV. Mind you I brought him into a home with two perfectly healthy cats. I know FIV has likely not effected my other two, but what if it had been FELV. Which is highly contagious. I would have three sick cats on my hands due to your negligence. I understand you wanting to save the cats and find them homes, but why risk spreading infections to healthy cats with your lies and incompetence?

They were amazing! I took home my first dog from them, Mookey. I went in with the idea of what i wanted and they gave what I needed! He was smaller to go with my apartment. Not a puppy because I worked. He loved my growning children. They instructed me how to house break him and He house broke within 2 weeks. He was my close companion during my divorce, job loss, and my children leaving home! i had also adopted from them a really cool orange tabby-Gingles. He and Mookey played well together for many years! YES the ASPCA is a great place to get a pet/friend!!! THANK YOU ASPCA FOR MY BELOVED FUR FRIENDS.

We had the best experience! We adopted a healthy, loving cat. We even had a meeting with a behavioral specialist before we brought him home - the specialist's advice made way for a very smooth transition. I cannot say enough nice things about the ASPCA. Highly recommended!

Terrible organization. Cancelled monthly donations twice only to have my card charged again. Somewhat of a process to get a refund. Had to block ASPCA with my credit card holder. Tried to do something good only to be taken advantaged of month after month and they clearly hoped I didn't realize it.

I called to report an act of animal cruelty and was met with such a horrible, nasty attitude from the woman I spoke to. Hello, isn't this what you do? Investigate animal cruelty? She tried to make me feel bad about the fact that I called and told me that they do not do driveby's and hung up on me. Awful human being. I'm so sorry for doing my part to save animals...maybe the ASPCA needs to make sure that their employees are doing what they are paid to do. An attitude adjustment might be the first step.

These Doctors (Veterinarians) are the people with a high level of commitment, dedication and kindness. My cat was on the verge of death and I thank them that in the midst of all this they hospitalized him and returned him home much-much better. With diet but if we love it, we must do it. Besides they gave me food and called to monitor him even after discharge. I thank these wonderful people who decided in the midst of the pandemic to take care of the little ones and who cannot speak for themselves - our pets. I thank you on behalf of Moonlight alias Flash -Dalia -Ura -Cano -Jorge and you are writing that for me it was the greatest gift of love. Thank you .

For a place thats supposedly desperate to find homes for their animals they sure are strict. We had to leave with our daughter in tears without a cat, because our other cat....also adopted from aspca several years ago, wasnt vaccinated recently And even if he was and we had said so, they need a signature and the name of the vet who administered it. I understand protecting the well being of the cats. But cmon. We even asked if we could bring our other cat to be vaccinated there since they have a hospital on premises. But they said no, they only do emergency care.
Oh and adoption fee. Expensive! $75 to $125
Guess they arent that interested in people taking these needy pets off their hands.

I just had to give this 5 stars. I love all dogs and they all deserve a nice home and ASPCA is doing a great job keeping them safe and rescuing them. I may adopt a dog in the future when I am old enough! or I will force my dad to adopt a dog, its a big responsibility!

Informative and friendly staff - readily available to assist you.
I went there for a tour and to possible adopt a dog. Their inventory moves very fast - so if you see a dog or a cat - it s best to call ahead and perhaps put a hold one the pet - if that s even possible.
Seems like it goes by first application process

I came here looking to adopt a small dog but the way I was treated was very shameful. I told them that I already own a rescue pitbull and they immediately asked me if I use him in fights. After I told them absolutely not they said I would need to bring him in so they can be sure. After all the awkwardness I informed then that I am a veteran and they said "yeah sure everyone uses that excuse" after this I got mad because that is one of the most disrespectful things you can say to someone who served this country. Past all of this i held my anger in and my partner and I looked at dogs. They are very well maintained and in a very clean environment. (The only reason in rating them 3 stars) after we picked a dog the woman told us was available we went downstairs to fill out paperwork. She looked at one of her coworkers and I over heard her whisper yo the woman at the desk to tell us that someone put a hold on the dog. I said "are you kidding me? I can hear you. After this I just left out of disgust of the workers here. It really is a shame that they hire these types of people to work at a place that is supposed to be filled with joy.

The staff here was very nice, and highly responsive. Helped explain all the options with my extremely ill cat, she was extremely anemic and bleeding internally, they did tests and kept the cost low. Unfortunately in the end my cat was too far off... but the doctor did several tests to help us make this decision, was very caring.
My cat got to this position from another private practice vet's huge mistake in not catching her anemia and having a dental procedure done.
Highly suggest bringing your pet here, especially if they are older, they have everything on site to test and take care of your pet. And the doctors see a lot, even the front staff are on their toes.

The people who run the desk at the ASPCA Medical Center are NOT NICE. Its unconscionable. This is just inexcusable. This is the institution who's President gets $600,000.00 a year. If you donate to them your money is going toward his swimming pool, sports car and luxury vacations. They are nothing but adversarial when you call. #ASPCAisnotnice #ASPCArudereceptionists #ASPCArudestaff #ASPCAanimalhospitalhatespeople #ASPCAtreatsyouasanenemy

I want to believe that I was not racially profiled...

I want to believe that I was not racially profiled because that would suck. So here is the situation. I consider myself a homebody, living by herself mainly. But apparently that was not enough for the people here. I was looking at one particular dog and I was told that I could not see him because I was not suitable and that I would need someone else in the home becuase he howls alot when alone. I do not see a howling dog even while I walked passed him, away from him. Still a NO. Animal shelters need to stop racially profiling.. give a workshop if there is a high concern. The fact that I had been turned down because I'm out 8 hours a day working but an family of 5 who is could be out during the same time can come back after killing pet number 5 is completely unacceptable. Like stop......

Don't use the ASPCA Animal Poison Control number... What a rip off!!! Info given was wrong and paid for nothing--- My dog ate catnip which put her in a comatose state and paralyzed her back legs. "Vet" told me no way, and we would only see nausea, vomiting, & diarrhea. After they charged me $65 for this 2 min call of nothing.. I Googled side effects and found it is a sedative for dogs...we went to vet just to be safe and vet said just wait it out. 24 hrs later after catnip worked its way through dog was good as new. BEWARE!!!

If the ASPCA is "dedicated to making New york a no-kill city..." then why do they kill INNOCENT dogs and cats? One beautiful dog, by the name of Oreo, was killed on November 13, 2009 while another well qualified, and well known, No-Kill shelter in New York was begging the ASPCA to let them take her in. Oreo had been thrown off a six story building after being beaten for at least a half an hour by her owner, Broken ribs and broken legs, she made a FULL medical recovery and would be able to live a full and healthy life once again! Then the ASPCA killed her only a few months later.
