The school is strict and questionable

So I know I am not finished but so far that I have been in this school (about a year) it hasn't been the best experience, the school is strict and doesn't really have any teachers that know technology but it teachers who know how to use the technology. Homework is long, and missing a single day of school gives you catch up. In theory that's sounds good but you return home late and you don't get a sick days without catch up limit. Moving on the school lunch isn't the best, like free school meals if your legible isn't the best and most food is overpriced. The lockers are really small for lockers and can be hard to fit stuff in. Moving from that topic teachers when sick/not in for some reason gets a substitute teacher who most of the time doesn't know what the subject is. fire drills: fire drills are important but one for each year, no communication in anyways this includes signalling to someone to move will fail the drill, if so you have to repeat it with Everyone, if you fail it more then 3 times it will start to cut into your launch which is fair if it wasn't because of one person.
Moving one the new timetable makes it so you get a extra 5m while moving to lessons but that is token out of your launch and break.
I have only been at this school for a year but as I have seen a lot of old teachers are leaving and new teachers are joining.another topic is f105s which are handled out for a lot of reasons but mostly due to missing equipment and you have to do it at lunch, I have not covered every topic like I haven't covered icas or study hall but that is mainly the important parts.

Welcome to the prison for kids!

This is not a public school! This is a Kingdom where no one cares about STUDENTS and PARENTS. Teachers stuff especially Mr. Matt Gallagher, Mis Grand also the receptionists are very rood, disrespectful and arrogant with PARENTS and STUDENTS.
They are proud of their unresonable and stupid strictness. They put a HIGH PSYCHOLOGICAL PRESSURE on students by purpose. Mr Gallagher always teas kids. It makes him so happy. So if you want your child to become a zombi instead a honourable person who respects himself off you go into that hell! They hates Students and Families!Don't trust that school especially to Mr Matt Gallagher.

Do not take your child there if you don't like strict schools. This school has a very rigid behaviour policy. ICAS is indeed internal exclusion like a parent said and all the information is in the behaviour policy, which j is easily accessible at the website. For a child to go to ICAS, they will have to be very unruly. They also do not allow pupils to bring their mobile phones and will confiscate it caught for weeks and/or months.
There is great communication with the ASD unit between parents and staff. If a child goes there with ASD, they will have the best support.
The only downside is that reception staff is very cold and can be rude. This is a school for academic kids who like to study very hard.

I have called today to school to find some information about admission test. The staff was were rude: no listening and communication skills. Interrupting, raising voice. "Why you call us , all information in front of your eyes on the website !"
and just hang up while I was talking.
I can not imagine how they deal with children if they communicate this way to parents. How we can leave kids to them? What they can do? We expect that ours kids will be safe in the school, They must be send them to retail to learn customer service skills. That is attitude of people from admission team !!! I just very sorry that I didn't recorded it on phone.
Decided to add something after attending the shool. We were there for admission test and all parents were angry how the staff was deal with us. Rude. Happy that my child not there.

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT READ ALL OF IT - i am a student here and my experience in this school has been the worst.

we are given so much homework wich some people believe to be only 30 min long....WRONG maths and english expect you to do 2 HOURS OF HOMEWORK. Not only that, if your in yr 9 to yr11 you finish everyday at 4:30 except on monday and friday which means when we come home we have a ton of hw to do and get little to nothing of free time after school. That is the reason many kids are staying up late and getting little sleep because they want to have some time for themselves.
I chose ART as one of my GCSE choices - BIGGEST mistake of my life. The teachers there convince you that ART allows you to be creative but it doesnt your forced to do things that you may not be comfortable with even though in yr 11 we were finally given a choice to pick what you want but ms peterson kept telling things she would do clearly trying t make me do it even though i didnt want to.
i was once told in yr 8 that our job is just to come to school be quiet do homework repeat as if we are machines programmed to live a life that they want. After that i recieved a bad case of suicidal thoughts everytime i thought of not wanting to go back to school.

There are many teachers that want to make your life a living hell with no freedom such as:

ms seargeant - she was absent for so many RS lessons so we were behind yet when she comes back she doesnt remember what lessons we have done so we jump lessons then go back lessons to the point im failing my RS GCSE.

mr haddleton - he shouldnt even be a teacher. I have learnt nothing of the 2 yrs of him being my teacher. All he does is shout with his cigarette breath at peoples faces when they dont understand something he hasnt properly taught us and picks on a person of ethnicity because he suspects it was one of them and blames them for something they havent done

On a better note, some teachers are really nice and care about you eductaion whilst making the lessons as fun and informative as possible like mr moody.
All im saying that its not worth your child being in this school if you care about their well being trust me this is a warning to you if you make the same wrong choice i made.

I am only going to give it a rating of three. I had an ICAS for no reason. Miss Sargeant is always annoying and she is rascist. She picks on me and she is stupid. I like Mr Keith because PE is really good. My form tutor can't physically shout. She, however, is really nice This school is really good, but if you miss detentions, it would make your life a lot worser, because you get 5 ICAS hours.

Ashcroft technology academy is taking away student's human rights and is a rubbish school. I do not recommend this school to anyone because it doesn't care about it's students. It only cares about the grades and looking good. I had the worst experience here and I don't want that for anyone else. Don't send children here.

My son went to the induction day in July 2016 and had a terrible experience from the moment he step foot into the place. The vice principal screaming at him in front of the whole year for being 10mins late even though there were other children who strolled in later than him and were welcomed with a 'hello'. Then the Principal singled him out in front of the whole year (at least 200 pupils) and asked him if he was a good boy to which he replied 'yes' then asked if he's mother is a good mother ? to which he also replied 'yes' , only for the Principal to state to my son 'you would say that wouldn't you!!'
I was horrified when my son told me this!
The principal then made a speech to the year stating that parents should not bother to make complaints to the school as their complaints would not not be disregarded and that it's their school, their rules and parents have no say or authority in how they run they school. He also stated that if any of the 11 year old misbehaved and not follow the rules that they would make sure they make their lives miserable for the duration of their studies in the school!!
This was only the induction day........
This school does not give the impression of being a safe, welcoming, nurishing, learning environment for any child and I would not be sending my child there to be threatened and abused!!

Everything I am about to tell you is true. When you choose you GCSE subject, they give you a preference list. My sister put music last on the list since she gets level 3s, she hates it and it is useless for her future. For some reason, those stupid teachers in that horrible school gave her music! When my mum came to the school to talk to my sister's head of year, the head of year said he didn't want to talk to any parents. What kind of school will give their students subjects that they hate and potentially ruin their futures!? They don't even care about what the parents have to say!!!

The students who all go here are forced to go here because it is known to be a good school however teachers are very unorganised and stricter on people who they personally hate.

This school should be made into a massive ASDA would be more useful.

PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS, AS I BELIEVE THERE ...

PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS, AS I BELIEVE THERE IS USEFUL INFO. I ve been i this school for 2 years now, and I have to say this is a terrible school. I have written how school is for a student.

[WORK]

The only reason their test grades are so high is because: instead of teaching the student if the get a problem wrong...The teachers write the answer in your book and expect you to miss half of your lunch and 1hr after school to redo the SAME question over and over again.

[STAFF]

If you have an issue, they tell you to go to a teacher or your head of year, when you go to them (say you were being bullied) They will talk to you, explain what s wrong etc...Then they would bring the bully, they say their side. Now the teacher has both sides: and of course the bully is lying. Yhe teacher shouts at both students saying that we have lied to him. So, they give us BOTH ISOLATION (Stay in a room all day + an hr after school) until the bully tells the real story. Once the bully tells the real story, the teacher says Well, WE both lied to him the first time (when is was the bully s fault) and gives us an extra week of isolation. THATS NOT ALL, the teacher even makes you stand up in front of the assembly (900+) people to explain why we did what we did.

[Mr Gallagher]

Not much to say about him: He is racist, He will shout at any student for any little thing (untied shoes-HE WILL SHOUT AT YOU-Health Hazard) He also is the teacher who will keep shouting at you until you cry-and tell you STOP CRYING THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER. He will then force you to go back to class with tears running down your face.

[Detentions]

If you get a detention after school, your parents won t be informed. It is their responsibility to know you havent left school so they should use their initiative to wait until your 1 HOUR DETENTION IS UP - Mr Hall (while shouting)

There is so much more, but I have written down the main parts.
If there was a 0 star option, I would choose it. There are so many nicer schools which you could choose that s benefiting for your studying and social life: Richmond Park Academy etc...

Great secondary school, great sixth form. Left in 2011 with excellent results. Thanks to Ashcroft I got into a Russell group university and now work as a Microbiologist for Heineken. I am shocked by the comments complaining of it being a strict school. Parents are too soft on their kids and if their kids are disruptive they should be disciplined and isolated from the other kids who want to learn. If you do not want the best for your kids you can always send them to Southfields Community College. Thank you Ashcroft for everything. I cant help but smile whenever I drive past the academy.

Teachers are so strict, like too much. All the work they give out is just from textbooks, the teacher put no effort into doing the lesson. Some lessons the teachers just give us the textbook and make us works out of it for the 2 whole periods.

Went here throughout secondary and sixth form. Teaching quality is good and if you need academic support there is a lot of help there. However, I don t believe the mental well-being of students is considered. I would say from first hand experience that some members of staff do abuse their power which I find frustrating. Teachers should be held accountable for the treatment of students. Favouritism of students is so evident within this school (says a lot doesn t it?)

they're a decent school, however there is a fundamental flaw the kids start there GCSEs a year early and as a result are swayed by staff to choose options that they may regret in the future, such as ART or Drama. This isnt to say that choosing these subjects are inherently bad but an aspiring software engineer would be told to choose Textiles, this is the problem the kids are setup to fail and only with proper parental guidance will a child make the right decision for their future ultimately if child has high aspirations they should be going to a gammer school.

I wouldn't even give this terrible school 1 star. ...

I wouldn't even give this terrible school 1 star. The deputy head (now headmaster) was known as The Discipline Manager. There is no understanding of children with special needs despite their claim to have a good SEN department. The children look tired and subdued on the way to school and go stir crazy on the way home.

The school is just a factory for getting good results in the league tables, has no pastoral care and as a Grandparent who had to visit the school to collect my Grandchild, I was treated with hostility despite the fact the receptionist didn't know what my business was with the school other than the fact I had an appointment with the year mistress.

On his first day in the first year of the Academy my grandchild's parents made a mistake over the starting date and realised after school started that first morning. They rang the school to explain their mistake but the child was put in detention for being late!!! This was the child's first day having moved from a small primary school! No allowances were made for the parents fault.

My Grandchild had a twitching tick that could not be controlled - when the children laughed the child was made to stand outside the door for disrupting the class rather than the other children being remonstrated with for being unkind.

Children are put into 'school prison' for misbehaviour where they stay for days and sometimes weeks on end not learning anything.

Ashcroft Academy is not a school but a boot camp and I was so relieved when we moved my grandchild, who wasn't learning anything to another school where A's and B's were obtained at GCSE and A level and a University place at one of the top Universities in the UK.

I do not attend this school, but i went on a open evining in y6,and gosh.I hated this school.I am scared of it infact.Ascroft has a reputation of being a extremily strict school, and this is true, but they are WAY too strict.
the frirst thing i noticed was the atmostphere,it was terrible.Students looks so so misreble and fed up with the school. My friend from primary had attended this school and she tells me about how much she hates it,teachers will scream at you,and give you harsh punnishments if you have somthing wrong (eg.untied shoes).Im someone who struggles with math, and this school did not accept that. They forced you and i felt pressured to do the maths. They didnt make anything a 'fun' 'happy' and 'cool' place a good school should be.I am disgusted by this school.Send your child elsewhere.

Bad, bad and more bad. The school is horrible. Especially the reception staff. I once asked them to see if I could call my mum but only an hour later they actually called, by then my mum thought I had gone on my own. So I waited another few. Minutes till she could come.

This school has to be questioned by education department iam so disappointed they dealt very badly with my son and me the chap mr chada seems to understand but incame to know through various students that teacher shouts at puipls and sont listen to students quiry instead force and implement what they think is right and force my son to say what they think was right me and my wife quite upset i have raise this issue with education department . I dont think if a child have done a mistake and in revenge you keep on giving him detention . Very much anoyed how they treat with innocent student iam sure it must be school policy to mentain that much rude attitude which i have never seen in any other school come on (ashcroft teachers ) they are only kids and not machines for God sake dont treat any one child in that manner you have treated my child and one of the teacher said me in the meeting all the kids lie well not all the kids are same every parents know how their childeren are you can not force students and there parents to agree with your decision sure once in the past you guys have been treated same way hence your attitude is like that

I drink to forget this school exists.
I have been insulted by teachers in this school.
Also, this school does homework terribly. They set homework on showmyhomework, but only sometimes. I often miss homework because my teachers expect me to log on to SMH and check my homework with no reason.
Moral: don't blaze weed if you're a teacher.

Student currently in Y13, been here since Y7. Without a doubt, one of the best state secondary schools in the area. Excellent friendly teachers and LG who are genially passionate and interested in their subjects and are always there to help and motivate you.

The leadership group and teachers are indeed very strict and enforce discipline which is of course essential for success, this is beneficial as it prepares your child for a successful working life and makes them very well mannered and a good human being. This school also has many school trips, which help to enrich learning. For example, in the geography department, we go on multiple field trips to help us engage in geography in the real world, and then apply it to our exams which help us understand concepts better.

Overall, you should not think twice when choosing this secondary school /sixth form for your child as this will be the best option for them to be educated and prepared for a very successful life.

School and teachers are generally good, however, as a parent to one former student, I found school Principal Marcus Barker and some of his Deputy Principals were very very rude and sometimes irresponsible and biased attitude against minorities. I have met a lot of other parents of ethnic minorities feel the same. Too bad they still there!

This school is full of heartless teachers...im deeply upset by how she was treated and I'm an emotional wreck from my encounter with the school..I allowed my daughter to stay off school for couple days because she was unable to...I emailed the school, no one got back to me so I told my daughter to tell whoever asks her anything to tell them to contact me but because we went on holiday(which was the first holiday ever since she has started the school and not reason why she missed 2 days) the male teacher i spoke to was condescending and didnt seem to understand other things can happen to a female student in early puberty stages that cant be controled...didnt want to go indebth with him...youre a stranger to me!! Instead to speaking to me first they questioned her...she said the teacher took her out of class, mid lesson..stated to her"bring your stuff!!" and waited for her to exit before saying horrible things to her which seems like a threatening manner..I will go jail apparently...etc etc..my child isn't in controle of herself..she is in my care and I support the school from the day she started there...i give them evidence and write letters concerning anything that affects her attendance and this is how they treat a student they told me they cherish and is very intelligent, just coming out of her shell! Etc.I am truly broken by the way my child was treated..even the receptionist were stand-offish and stood there watching me up and down stating they can't do anything not even book an appointment with a teacher to clarify the problem! I am truly broken by this encounter!
I'm getting more and more upset thinking about it.. I allowed her to go to this school..thinking they would help her growth into a well rounded young adult..really feeling to send her to another one if this is how they belittle and intimidate children!! Still yet to talk to a teacher cause they didn't want to talk about the matter, their decision is final apparently!!

This school is extremely horrid, the teachers, the way the teachers deal with bullies, and worst of all the LG, apparently this school is close-minded to the idea of children being independent and having different ideals to one another.

The children often steal from a co-op nearby. East Putney, the one close to the school, some figures that stand out to me are a extremely obese individual child WHO STEALS ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DAY, this individual figure is unmistakably a child of Ashcroft Technology Academy.

I go to work and get my food from this shop. The employees don't deserve this treatment from the children that steal. I told one of the workers about this individual, to which she replied "We'll get him into police custody, soon."
Nothing happened. He came back the next day.

I noticed that not once is 'Internal Care and Support' or 'ICAS' mentioned on their website while there is a whole page dedicated to diaries and the uniform shop both of which are pretty self-explanatory. Let me explain, as the school seems to be incapable or unwilling to inform parents and students about this important part of the school.

ICAS is basically internal exclusion where a student is forced to sit in a room with a few other students silently for up to 5 hours and 25 minutes without a break and 9 hours with an hours break (which is also completed in silence with no exposure to fresh air except the 30 second long walk to and from the restaurant to buy cold food as warm food is forbidden in ICAS)..(No i'm not making this up). During this time students read their own reading book or do textbook work on their own in silence. Included in the ICAS package is a lovely 1 hour detention after school as well, which is also....in silence.

So if you are wondering what sort of evil crime one would have to commit to be escorted to this prison then wonder no more because these are just a few of the many reasons why i have gone to ICAS: Being 30 seconds late to school, saying 'ok' to a teacher in a certain manner which she didn't like (when no rudeness was intended) and for having a low attendance due to illness with the school accusing me of truancy with no evidence whatsoever.

So by typing this 'essay' i wanted to inform or at least give a 'brief' summary of ICAS as the school does not offer this information on their website. I have not made ANY of this information up (however ridiculous it may seem).

I hope that you have a good day and for your own sake and your son/daughter's sake - Don't send your kid to this school!
