My sister is here. 56 years old. We could not ask for a better place. The staff are so caring...not only to my sister but family. There for a shoulder and kind words. Some places are so fancy inside but no heart! Very pleased!

My sister is young and was diagnosed with dementia early. On one of my first visits the staff was very attentive to both family and patients. They made us feel comfortable and gave us a room so that we can spend quality time with her. The facility is old but the care makes it beautiful which is what is important. Thanks to all the staff on the 5th floor. Your the best.
They are great at neglecting their patients. It's a really bad place when they are so neglectful that someone dies. That is what happened. Search Albany County Nursing Home faces wrongful death lawsuit before you place a loved one in this place.
My husband has been on the dementia unit for almost 2 years. ACNH has its problems, as most places do, but my husband is kept clean and well taken care of. Most of the staff do their best and are usually caring people. My husband's main caregiver is wonderful with him and he responds to this. The activities department always has interesting and fun musical events/parties, which residents and visitors enjoy. I believe that with encouragement and support the aesthetics and morale at ACNH will improve for residents, their families, and the employees.
Calling over a month now to only check on the status of an application that I had put in and still haven't received a call back. Countless times had been sent to voicemail and the person in charge Jen Travis seems to pick up the phone and hang up in the moment which I don't understand why. I asked the secretary if there is anything else that I could do in regards to getting in contact with someone who could help but unfortunately she is the only one who handles admissions and the chances of me seeing her if I try to go in person is very slim according to the secretary. If anyone has some advice to help me I would greatly appreciate it!
My aunt is there, at 56 years old. The facility may look older but the care there is wonderful. They are amazing staff and caring people. They really do care about everyone staying there and the families visiting.
My father was moved there from another nursing home. The other nursing home was terrible. I was so impressed with Albany County nursing home. The staff were so nice and attentive. The place was clean. The bedding was changed everyday. My father was in there for comfort care. He didn't have long to live and the staff were very respectful and caring.
Making the decision to place my mother in a nursing home was one of the hardest experiences of my life. So I want to give a big THANK YOU to all of the staff members at Albany County Nursing Home. Everyone from the nurses to the social workers to the assistants and beyond have made my mother's comfort a priority. Her care team is constantly in contact with my family, frequently updating us on how she is doing. My mother's well-being is my biggest priority, and I am deeply appreciative of all of the Albany County Nursing Home's efforts.
My cousin and I HAD to place his father in this facility from Albany Medical Center even though it was not our first, second or third choice because the hospital said we would be responsible for the hospital bill since he was stable for a skilled nursing facility. What a dump! He has been there over 1 month and still has not seen a physician, luckily one of us visits him EVERY DAY to ensure, he has his dinner. We always get him ready for bed, get his teeth brushed and into bed before we leave. Good thing because I can't tell you how many times he has been left to sit in a wet Depends. One day he had soaked thru his Depends, underwear AND his sweat pants even though his care plan calls for every 2 hour incontinent checks. A urinal was left on his "dresser" for two days with urine in it, no soap in the soap dispenser in his room, toilet leaks every time it's flushed, wheelchair & commode stored in his bathroom. He was retaining water and we had to hound the nurse to get the physician to increase his water pill and stop the sodium tablets. We are moving him out of there on 12/10 and bringing him to Florida. DO NOT put you family membes in this facility unless you can be there every day to monitor their care!! His room mate has very limited mobility and has waited up to 45 minutes for someone to answer his call bell and help him go to the bathroom. If you complain it is taken out on the resident. My uncle was told by a staff member that he was a "trouble maker" and he was scared to death. When you complain the staff will yes you to death, but nothing changes. We asked the nurse one night what meds she was giving him, she didn't even know. She also left the med cart unattended and unlocked in the hallway. We have pictures and once he is out of there will pursue this further.
This place renamed itself to Shaker Place. Years ago we placed a grandparent there. We took them out less than a month later because of neglect. So not surprised by the recent lawsuits (article headlines below - you can find full article by internet searching the headlines.) If you have a loved one here please PLEASE be sure to check in/visit with them often. Please note, you can submit complaints anonymously to NYS DOH (internet search NYS Complaints About Nursing Home Care and the website page should come up.)
