Compassionate, skilled, knowledgeable, medical professionals. They do a great job, and they have a comprehensive range of medical skills. They listen when you talk to them, and they give terrific medical care. I highly recommend the Animal Emergency and Referral Center.

If you treat your pet like a member of your family...

If you treat your pet like a member of your family, taking them here is the equivalent of shipping them off to the morgue. In late March of 2019, I lost my beloved German Shepherd of 12 years, his name was Moses, and the traumatic experience at the hands of this vet and their staff left me so grief stricken that I have not had the strength to write this until now.
Moses, a senior but healthy and well taken care of dog, had been experiencing some distress the entire day. When I noticed his labored breathing, I rushed him to the nearest veterinary clinic, if you can even call them that. While my husband drove, I cradled his head in my lap and tried to comfort him. Somewhere along the mere 6 mile drive that seemed to last forever, he looked up at me with those gentle eyes that had stayed with him since he was a puppy, as if to say "I love you, mom. It's okay" and then let out one final breath. I knew in that moment that my Moses had passed, and the only thing I noticed over the breaking of my heart was the absence of his breathing as we pulled into the vet's office.
He was dead upon arrival, but they insisted upon lifting his limp body onto a stretcher. What I saw next has haunted the memory of my sweet boy for months.Staff stuck his corpse with needles and pumped saline into his stalled veins, as if feign some sort of last ditch effort to save him, and wheeled him away from me. When I demanded he be returned to me so that I could bury him, they handed me a bill for $250.00, citing their end of life attempts to save him, and refused to give me his body unless I paid. They took his body hostage and held it for ransom, which I paid on the spot. I would have paid anything to get him off of a cold, metal table.
And they knew that. They exploit the love people have for their animals. To throw an extra bit of salt in the wound, I opened my mailbox a few weeks later to a scripted, insincere sympathy card from the staff. It's not their prices that inspired this review or this review. It's their callousness. If they had half the compassion split amongst their entire staff that my Moses had in his whole body, they would not have treated his death the way that they did. They took an already awful experience and made it worse, all just for their profit.

This is the worst vet I ve ever been to. They are only concerned with money. Our dog had a severely broken foot. They did comprehensive blood work when we asked them not to because there was no need for it with a break. They took an X-ray then did nothing about the break no splint, nothing. They gave us no treatment plan nor any suggestion to follow up with our vet when we got home. They also neglected to give us the pain med they charged us for. Do not go to this vet if you care about your pet. One star is too many b

Update: I had to bring my own dog in for what I thought was back pain and they helped figure out it was actually it was his elbow. This place is always great to my pets

This is a great emergency center. Upfront, honest and everyone is very caring towards my dog. My brother brought his yorkie here a few years ago also after a bufo frog, after a short hospitalization he was able to come home and years later is still very happy. He wouldn't have been alive after that incident if it wasn't for this hospital.

Got charged $700 for fluids and an X-ray! Never doing that again. I was upset because my dog was throwing up blood. After I paid they came in and told me "your dog just swallowed something irritable, he'll be fine".

I just moved down here 2months ago from pittsburgh,pa. My 4 year old miniature weiner dog bit a poisoneous toad for literally half a second. We instantly googled what to do. It said to rinse their mouth out w water and don't let them swallow the water. We rushed her to the emergency vet because she kept shaking her head like she bit something nasty. She threw up in the parking lot. The vet and the front desk girl were very nice and kept us updated the whole time we were there. She ssid we were very lucky. Apparently this happens a lot down here , and if the dog eats the toad it can be deathly. So please please please be careful taking your dog out at night. Use a flash light and keep your eye on them the whole time they're outside. Our bill was only $150. To me it was money well spent knowing that our baby girl was going to be ok and nothing was going to get worse.

Terrible place. Manager was rude and unfeeling and killed a veterans service dog because they took too long to treat him after he was hit by 2 cars. When the veteran got emotional over his dog dying, they called the police to have him removed from the property immediately after. After witnessing this terrible display, I would not take my dying grandmother here if it was the only place for care. Definitely suggest anywhere else but here.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! After my dog got very ill, I was referred to take my dog here. While the Doctors are ok, the front desk women are absolutely rude, insensitive and furthermore, when I was holding my dog in my lap after she had to be euthanized no more than 1 minute passed and the front desk girl came into the room and said if I was ready to settle my bill. I told her that I needed a little more time with my dog.

You will get treated with little or no compassion as this place and if you do need to take you're pet here, be prepared to be treated like crap and make sure you have the money to pay then and there.

My family and I are truly grateful to Dr. Lyman and the staff. If it wasn't for Dr. Lyman and Dr. Wasserman our Riley would not be here today, there is no doubt in my mind! We were originally going to another local emergency vet that diagnosed her with IMHA in May 2020, the vet there was basically just guessing and keeping her on a regimen that was slowly killing her. She was wasting away and developed horrific sores from the prednisone that the vet there was keeping her on, she just kept saying "we'll just keep doing what we're doing". Finally, I couldn't keep doing what we were doing, I made an appointment at Animal Emergency & Referral Center. Dr. Wasserman originally saw Riley and right away changed her meds and ran many tests to find out the root of her problem. Come to find out, she had hookworms! A basic test that the other vet did not do. I believe if they would of done that test Riley wouldn't of endured the amount of pain and suffering that she did. Dr. Lyman then became her primary vet because he is very familiar with IMHA. He was so kind and explained everything so that we could understand what to expect each step of the way. She went to see them in August and by September/October she was 100% back to her old self. She is only 3 years old, we knew she had so much more life to live with us. We can't thank them enough!

Worst place ever paid $70 for them to come tell me I need to spend more money for further diagnostics. Like why pay $70 if you only get a dogs tempture and heart rate? This place is horrible as far as taking care of the animals. Never would recommend coming to this place to anyone

Awful and dangerous place. The initial intake ER veterinarian was incompetent, had no idea what might be wrong with my cat, and focused exclusively on money. My cat died after their substandard surgeon collapsed her lung. Their so called internal medicine expert was clueless and misdiagnosed her. When my cat was dying and suffocating to death at their facility due to the surgeon s complete incompetence the veterinarian could not even explain her critical condition to me and it took one of the assistants to come to the phone and tell me my cat was suffering so I could make the decision to put her down. The bill for what were comically described as services came to $6,000. Shocking level of incompetence and a danger to animals in my opinion. This place is the veterinary equivalent of a clown show. Stay away.

I took my 9 year old dog here, she had Pyometra. Let me start off by saying how RUDE DR. LESLEY PHILLIPS was!!! You can tell she doesnt genuinely love animals. She didnt even pet my dog. She then told me in a very COLD tone that I can either have her get Surgery there for $4,500 or I can put her to sleep!! No compassion at all! So I decided to take my dog home and get a second opinion. I eneded up going to Pet Emergency Center in Ft. Lauderdale and they were very kind and did the surgery for $1,400 and 3 months later here my dog is healthy as could be. And it didnt cost me and arm and a leg. SO PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS!

We were referred here when our 11pd Maltese showed signs of listless Ness, sleeping all the time, drinking large quantities of water. His appetite was fine but he was not himself. We arrived and the staff was friendly and kind. The doctor looked our dog over & took a urine sample &temperature, right thru an IPhone app. Everything was fine, the doctor wanted to run additional test with blood work. After a while of waiting she came back with an estimate of cost..... $795.00 and she was not able to tell me what could be the cause of our dog symptoms. She also did not suggest antibiotics which I thought was odd but to assume by running these test, sending us home and emailing me the results would resolve the issue. No, No, I already had an appt for our regular vet for the following day which I will take our baby to. Not sure what the deal was but it was a waste of $82.00.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I took my dog in around 10:30 pm because she was stiff and not moving for over 15 minutes, pupils dialated, and appeared to have a hard time breathing. I was sure she had eaten a toad although I didn't see it for myself. The only person that seemed understanding was the receptionist. When the vet came in, a young guy that I don't recall his name, was rude from the beginning. He basically thought the ordeal was entertaining, and asked If I had saw my dog eat the toad. When I told him no, he smirked and thought apparently I was overreacting. He said there was only minimal swelling to the gums so it was nothing. I would have not brought my dog at that hour unless it was an emergency. I was charged $70 for 15 minutes. They rinsed her mouth and checked her heart rate. He then said that if I was that concerned he would gladly do blood work and it would cost between $800-$900, and I realized then that it was all about the money, not my dog. I will never come here, I'd rather drive to Okeechobee to my primary vet than to step foot at this place.

Now that my fur baby is home safe...no thanks to them. This was by far the worst experience i have ever received in caring for my pet!! Please please dont even consider this place unless it is your only option. The doctor wasnt as rude but the staff around her were just absolutely awful!! Unless you have thousands of dollars to throw in their face, they will send your baby home to die!! They were rude, and extremely uncaring. My 3 year old baby was literally sent home to die unless i had 2000$ up front. Went to another vet that fixed him in 6 hours. And not even a quarter of the price. Im disgusted with how we were treated and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Charged me over four thousand dollars before he would even look at my dog, this place will play off of your love for your pet and rob you blind. I was sent home with a bottle of doggy Tylenol and a pat on my back. sure they took a few xrays and when they showed nothing but a strain they decided to use the rest of the 4K deposit. i wish i could take legal action against this place......

I just left this place so disgusted. Overcharging and abusing of the hurricane situation. $2,800 to keep my dog in observation. Low income area. Who can afford to pay that? My poor dog was back home screaming for help. Broke my heart as I am unemployed at this time. Have to borrow to pay $432.00 for nothing. The Vet was gross. Abruptly mean. Please stay away from this place. They only care about the money not about the animals at all.

If you have an animal with an obvious wound needing emergency help, they can help you. But you need to know that the bill is flexible. A friend of mine had dog that needed surgery, and got a $10K bill; they said "let us take a second look at that bill," and brought it down to $4.5K Nice discount, but it shows how flexible the billing is. My cat had Idiopathic Vestibular Syndrome, which is basically dizziness. They saw dollar signs. They came up with a long list of unnecessary tests for a total of $2,600, while making it clear that this would only be through 8am Monday morning, and that they were not saying it would help my cat. No, they wouldn't. They made it clear I was a terrible person. I took the cat home and he got better on his own. They did charge me over $200 for taking his blood pressure and temperature.

While on vacation in Ft. Pierce our dog became ill...

While on vacation in Ft. Pierce our dog became ill and we took our little Missy to this vet on July 5th. She had eaten bad dog treats and needed to be treated for poison however the head vet (Dr. Lyman) refused to offer treatment unless he ran a $5,000. MRI. Once we said this was too expensive and begged to treat her for the poison the head vet lowered the MRI price to $3,000. but still too much money. Then he went to $2,000. for the MRI. Seems he only wanted the money and still refused to treat for poison even when the female vet asked him for permission to do the poison treatment. Instead told he us to get in the car and drive Missy to our vet in Miami. We didn't make it to our vet since our Missy died that night in our arms. I only gave this one star because you can't give 0 stars. Watch out for this place!!!! My father, Mother and family never got over the loss of Missy.

I should of read the bad reviews before bringing my pet here. My little dog had a seizure, terrified and rushed my dog here, when i arrived my dog needed dire attention, instead of taking him in immediately they wanted to give me a price quote first, my dog was fading fast, telling me they cant do anything without xrays, blood work, Cardio, oxygen etc. I didnt care i just wanted them to save my poor dog, i was seen by Dr Wasserman she sends the assistant to tell me its going to be $1000 and possibly more if they keep him over night. This dog weights 5lbs, just take him off my hands and do something. After waiting 2 hrs Wasserman comes back and tells me my dog has a heart condition needs to see a cardiologist another $800 i had to pay first, and i left him in there hands hoping he will recover, next morning i pick him Up and he didnt really look any better, i honestly have no clue what they did with him all
Night, they give me meds to give him. The dog was so thirsty when i got home as if he had not gotten any water or IV for fluids. Anyway my dog would not take the meds or eat to get better.
That evening he struggled breathing, they should kept another night if it was a life or death matter.. i was ready to bring him back, then he died in my arms.
You are at there mercy in this emergency place, beware.

My cat had been on-and-off sick for a while before we decided to take him in. Unfortunately it was something serious and he was severely anemic at the time. They were able to give him a blood transfusion and he seems happy as of now. It's just a temporary fix until we get a diagnosis, but they made him happy and back to himself for a while. We told them our budget and they met it. Dr. DeRoin was very helpful and a very nice lady, I thank her for explaining everything so well. We had to come back after going to another vet for follow-up, and the vet said that something was wrong with the blood transfusion, but Dr. DeRoin cleared it up for us and explained it in detail as to why things were done the way they were. The appointment was $70 to go and get my cat looked at, and then it cost us $700 total for the blood transfusion, blood panel test, feline leukemia test, and after-care for the blood transfusion. They were not able to diagnose him at the time, but they made it so he could live until we were able to go to a vet. We were talked through every step and they did not hide any fees from us. I am grateful to have gone to them!

Late night emergency with my miniature pinscher Shadow. She suddenly started experiencing severe symptoms from her Diabetes ll and Cushings.
Dr Wasserman and Tessa were extremely helpful and took caring attention immediately. Unfortunately Shadow took a turn for the worse.
They were informative and I made the difficult decision to put Shadow to sleep. I would not have been able to get by that night without their support and professionalism.
They were by my side with Shadow the whole time with a lot of patience. Thank you so much for everything.

When we arrived we were taken back right away. So I thought this place knew what they were doing. They wouldn t do a thing for my pet till we paint the $75 fee and then wouldn t do anything till we paid an additional $150 for bloodwork. We were there for my dogs ears. So they prescribed ear drops that we had to pay another $100 for and the drops didn t work so I took my dog to another vet which was Tri county vet hospital off Okeechobee road and they were Amazing! My dog was accurately diagnosed and was given pills and ear ointment and I walked out paying $45 for the visit, exam and meds.

Pet owners BEWARE!!

Pet owners BEWARE!!

This place is after one thing...
Your money!
No one is looking for free health care for their beloved pet...
But, trust me ... They will play on the fact that you love your pet.. and get as much as they can. You may seen the positive reviews and I'm sure some are happy with the outcome that their pet was treated and back to good health.
But, everyone... Please read the negative reviews... It's not hard to see what they all have in common.
If you go there... Trust me... You Will be over charged..

We drove all the way from Okeechobee to Fort Pierce to go to this vet clinic this emergency clinic because there s nothing open in our area our dog had an eye infection and was dehydrated possibly. Four days later our dog is still in the same condition after we paid almost $900. We were told that the creams would heal his eye infection I just called the emergency center hopefully thinking they would prescribe a new cream due to the fact that the one they prescribed is not working and they told me that they prescribed it thinking they didn t know if it was going to heal it that we need to see an eye doctor.I feel like this place is a joke and why would you bring your dog somewhere and pay all that money and not get healed. It would be like us humans going to the ER and being prescribed medication that doesn t work with a huge ER bill. Find a good vet this is not the one.

I have seen many pet come into the hospital with many problems that wouldn't have been able to be treated in other animal hospitals around here because of the technology that Animal Emergency & Referral Center offers. The staff here offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, MRI, ultra sound, water treadmills and so much more. Know that when you bring you pet in to the hospital you can be reassured that you'll be offered a top notch service along with a staff that truly loves and cares for your family member as you do.

I am 79 with history of chronic asthmatic bronchitis and COPD. I have self isolated totally till yesterday, not even seeing family. I had others drop off food and I shopped online. I only ventured out when my dog had a frightening FIRST episode of vestibule disease and Vet Med Center Emergency CLINIC set up for emergency MRI with ANIMAL EMERGENCY & REFERRAL CTR, My significant other who stays with me Is awaiting test results for COVID19 because of symptoms. I am high risk that if I get this virus I will die. Of course we were wearing masks and waited outside and did paperwork as requested. The staff was wearing masks but there is no social distancing which experts also deem necessary. Due to my fear, I motioned to the employee going to the cars and dropped my forms on the ground behind me to have as little contact as possible. She decided that was an insult to her, reported it to the manager and I was told to leave with my sick dog not seen. I am am a retired RN with high profile jobs in the past. I have had unreasonable patient's families. However, in my experience the patient ALWAYS comes first !! Not here. They could have treated her, taken my money and told me never to come back. Thankfully Vet Med Center has set up an emergency appoint @ VETERINARY SPECIALITY HOSP for tomorrow. There still are some facilities left who have compassion for frightened families and sick pets. AVOID THIS PLACE. YOU HAVE BETTER CHOICES !!

Dont go here unless you dont care for your pet. I regret bringing my baby here. They care more about money and not about your loved pet. I took my pet here for emergency cause he had part of his intestines come out. They wanted to do surgery instead of the easy thing to message it bsck into place and a couple stiches. They said he was going to die that day so me already freaked out loved him so much couldnt afford 3000 so sadly i opted to put him down not to suffer. Knowing now he didnt have to be put down. So I hope God will punish this vet when he leaves

My dog received excellent and immediate care at AERC. My dog is not a usual patient there, but it was a holiday and an emergency. Dr. Wasserman went above and beyond to help my dog, even stayed past her overnight shift to make sure I knew what follow up care my dog needed. If I ever had a pet emergency again, I would go to AERC and I am so glad I am now aware of their services and to know they are open 365 days a year. Thank you, Dr. Wasserman and AERC!

We had a wonderful experience at AERC; everyone was so compassionate and concerned while Kona was being treated for an inflamed foot back in February. It was heartbreaking for us to see her like that and not know what happened to cause her to limp and have so much swelling. We were passing through on our way to Key West in our RV and only in the area for 2 days. What a relieve that we found you! The day after Kona's laser and hyperbaric oxygen treatment, we saw much improvement. She could put some weight on her foot and the swelling was starting to go down. I can't say that we weren't worried as we continued down to the Keys, but in a few days we knew it would all turn around. Thank you Dr. Lyman, Dr. DeRoin and all the rest of the vet staff...Thank you for making Kona well and saving our vacation. Photo #1 is Kona with her laser goggles on. Photo #2 is Kona's foot 1 week later.

I had to bring my old girl 'Lola' into the emergency hospital. It was 11pm in the evening and of course, my vet was closed. I am so happy that this facility is open 24 hours, even on weekends and holidays! I happily paid the doctors exam and consult fee of $70. ( I admit, I called around and this hospital's exam fee was the cheapest). Lola has been lethargic since dinner time and vomited once. This is not her usual self, so I thought it be best to see a vet. After the doctor fully examined Lola, she said it could be a number of things, "Let's start with some diagnostics to see which way we want to go..." I am not made of money, so I was very happy that the doctor gave me an estimate. We proceeded with bloodwork and x-rays. Being a realistic, I was glad that the doctor got right to the point. Lola stayed for an initial Hyperbaric' treatment, something my vet doesn't have at her hospital. To make a long story short, the staff was very knowledgeable and compassionate! I highly recommend this hospital to people who care about their pets and want the best higher standard care.

Special thanks to all the Team at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center.

About 3 months ago, My French Bulldog tried to jump into my friends SUV and severely injured her back and cut herself on something in the process. She was unable to use her back legs, so we rushed her in to the emergency center. The Dr. gave us our options, and we decided to leave her there for treatments. After a few weeks, she was getting better, stronger, and more able to move. We brought her home, then took her back and forth to Dr. Lyman and Dr. Phillips for outpatient hyperbaric, laser, and water treadmill therapy treatments. We followed their rehab advice at home, and she continued to improve. 3 months later, she is doing so well and getting better every weeks. You would hardly know she had injured herself! Thank you to all of the staff at Animal Emergency and Referral Center!

I was driving down US1 when I saw a car hit a small kitten. My family and I picked her up and rushed her to this animal hospital. When we tried explaining the situation to the front desk clerk she just replied "if it's not your cat we can't see it. Sorry.". The kitten died in my fiancee's arms when we were sitting in the parking lot trying to figure out what to do next. Absolute lack of empathy for the poor creature. I'd avoid this place unless you have absolutely no choice.

I thank the doctors and staff at AERC for taking care of my sweet yorkie. She stopped eating and was vomiting. She was really lethargic and stumbling when she tried to walk. I called ahead and the receptionist was very helpful with giving me directions and letting me know what to expect when I arrived. Everyone was extremely kind. They kept my dog overnight for testing and evaluation. They called me with an update as I requested and I spoke with the doctor personally. I was able to pick her up the next morning and now she is back to normal. I received a call the following Monday from our primary vet to check in on us. The staff at AERC had already called and sent them information. I thought it was great that they wanted to make sure my doctor knew what happened. I hope I never have to take my dog to an emergency vet but if I do I know exactly where I will go.

Best in the area.

Best in the area.
Dr Wasserman and the staff here are amaziing. Our dog had an Emergency that reqiured immediate intervention. Dr Wasserman immediately made our dog comforatble. Prior to rushing forward and just performing surgery she examined our dog fully and discovered another unknown issue that drastically changed the progonosis of the first procedure.
Without her calm and professionaly treatment our dog would have endured a painful and expensive procedure.
Dr Wasserman spent the time to make the right decision for the treatment of our dog. It was not based on money the hospital could make , but rather on the best treatment for our dog. We love our general practitioner Veterinarian, but when our pets need emergency treatment we will definately come here. Best in the area.

The staff and doctors here are amazing. It doesn't matter if its 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, they are always ready and willing to do what your pet needs in an emergency.

Always glad to know these guys are here even through bad weather. My 7 month old decided to cut her foot and they were ready to fix her and she loved all the kisses and hugs! Thanks AERC doctors and staff for being here.

Very impressed with my visit to Animal Emergency and Referral Center. Got me right in the door and took my dog immediately in to get oxygen. She was gasping and choking for air when I brought her in and they were able to keep her calm and get her breathing normally again. The doctors were very knowledgeable and the technicians seem to really care. I picked her up the next day and she is back home and back to being herself. I would recommend them to anyone in need of emergency care for their pet!

We had a wonderful experience here! My sheltie, injured herself while we were in Fort Pierce, staying in a hotel. She got prompt, wonderful care, was diagnosed quickly, and treated. Our vet was so kind and compassionate and treated Spirit like she was her very own. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here if the need did arise.

This is the worst place I have ever dealt with. They take advantage of people s love for thier animals. They charged over 3,000 for a CT scan and biopsy. They will rob you blind and take all your money and not even think twice. The funny thing is they said they charged me for oral surgery which never happened. But somehow they didn t refund my money. It s a disgrace that people in this field are doing it only for the money. I am a registered nurse so I know what can go on in the medical field and billing and they are only out for one thing money.

Last night was one of the saddest nights of my life. I had to put my sweet baby girl Sophie down after she had an aggressive seizure. She was old and I felt like it was time for her to go peacefully. This hospital was AMAZING from the beginning. I called them at 10pm to rush her there, the hospital was clean and quiet and the staff were simply AMAZING. The Dr. Was very nice and she listened to my concerns and was not judgemental about my descions at all. She gave me a list of options and told me she supported what ever decision I decided to make. This place made a very horrible experience much easier to deal with. Thank you to every one of the staff members at this hospital.

I don't think they care as much about the animals as they do the money. We took our little dog there at 4 in the am. He had only been sick for 1 day. He had diarrhea with blood in it since that morning and he had not eaten all day. About 3.30 am he had a seizure. He had never had one before and had never been sick since we rescued him from the shelter . 8 months prior. After examining the dog for a few minutes with no obvious idea. The doctor went into the back to prepare the bill. She returned with an estimated 600 to 800 to do what she called minimum treatment. She clearly did not have any clue what was wrong with him. And to b honest don't think she really cared. In the end 887 dollars later. We had to put him down. We still don't know what was wrong or if he could have been saved. If we had the 3 to 5 thousands she quoted to keep him for 3 more days
. Take ur pet some where else. We will have to live with the what is. Don't make the same mistake we did.

..Truna was bleeding from the mouth. I called to see if she could be seen. The lady on the phone was rude and talking to me like a child. They don't take appointments. Get there and call. The come out, take our money, then we sat for 15 minutes. I had to call them to get the paperwork, then call because were running out of gas. They come out and say we can't leave Trina there to go get gas. I beg. Lady goes and get another tech who says the same. I beg, Trina is bleeding. Shes says she'll ask the vet but no promises. Ok. Vet comes out and accuses me of swearing at the tach, which I didn't do. She tells us we can't leave her and then tells me to calm down or go somewhere else. I say, I'm not calming down, my dog us bleeding andno place else is open. She then says the name of a place open 10 miles away and then says she's going to refund my $70 and we have to leave. We're now at the other place, which let us inside AND didn't charge up front.

I have never been so appalled in my life. You would think a veterinarian would care about the animals. This one does not. They care about taking your money and that's it. Our dog broke his leg this morning. We called and they told us to bring him in. They gave us a price and said they would do tests and diagnose him and then let us know how much the treatment was. They took the cash from us before taking the dog inside and then called us in the parking lot and said it looks like somethings wrong with his leg. Ran no tests/xrays. Did absolutely nothing!! Took my money and did nothing. They lied on the phone when we called. Apparently the money i paid them was just to do his vitals. Are you kidding me??? I was handed back my dog and now have to take him to another vet to be treated. The office staff and the vet there were extremely rude. When calling them after we left They kept picking up the phone and hanging up on us without even saying anything. Real professional! They care nothing about the animals. Only their money. Save your time and money! Stay away from these thieves.

Refused to see my cat because I didn't have $70+ dollars in my pocket at the time. That was just to walk in the door. Greedy scabs in the business of getting rich, rather than being concerned about animals. If I could give 0 stars to these corporate monkeys I would. My poor kitty suffered all night. Why? If you are really that money hungry, might I suggest you open a casino instead? But please, don't pretend to care about animals while holding their health for ransom money.

I brought my 5 month old puppy to the Animal Emergency & Referral Center because he had started limping after playing with one of his litter mates. Dr. Phillips, the orthopedic surgeon, took a couple radiographs and was able to find what was hurting him almost immediately. Thankfully it was only a minor injury and I was able to take my puppy home without him having to undergo surgery. Dr. Phillips placed my pet on an appropriate after care regimen and so far it looks like we are on the right track to getting my puppy to feel as good as new!! I am so appreciative of the Doctors and staff at the AERC for showing me soooo much kindness and always being there for me and my pet when we need them!!

Horrible if I could give zero stars I would. These people have zero compassion for animals it's all about preying on your vulnerability in order to extort $$$ from you. I found a young Chihuahua in the road hit by a car late one night and brought the dog in horrified to find out they would not care for the animal without a deposit of $2000. I didn't have the $$ to donate to the cause, but if they came up with a realistic number I would have helped the poor little guy. Despite my explaining how I found the dog in the street they were convinced he was my dog. How mortifying to be judged. I have 3 dogs they all see a local vet and they're each chipped and on monthly medication. An easy phone call the next day would confirm that. Anyway they told me to call animal control. They picked the dog up at my house that night and later on he was euthanized. I wonder if he received immediate help from some compassionate people he may have survived and found a home or found his way back home to his owners. It's just sad they would rather decide not to help a patient in need. I can't imagine all the neglect all the other stories of turning pets away because of a financial issue or because they simply don't want to be bothered with a case. People with zero understanding of ethics and zero compassion should not be making life or death decisions for anyone animal or human.

I drove up from Miami to Animal Emergency & Referral Center with my dog who had been released five days prior from her regular vet with a severe case of pancreatitis. Olivia was not healing, eating, was having liver issues and was deteriorating rapidly. After researching the issue, I asked my vet about getting Olivia treatment in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and she recommended Animal Emergency & Referral Center because their oxygen chamber also allows for fluid intake while getting the treatment. Dr. Lyman saved my girl's life. He treated the entire dog and not just the symptoms. Olivia received love, compassion and expert care. She was immediately given fluids and treatment in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber three times a day for six days. I got daily updates with photo and video on her progress. Dr. Lyman explained all the treatment and answered all my questions. When I picked her up I had my dog back. She got home and immediately went in the pool and is doing great Best decision I have ever made was taking her to Dr. Lyman for his expert and compassionate care.

Never thought I'd have to rush my poodle into the emergency room for a dog fight as he's an only dog and is always on a leash. But it happened. Neighbor's 100 pound pitbull attacked my dog. Luckily AERC was open and the staff were very attentive not only to my pet but to me as well. Lucky for us there were no bites, just a lot of drool. I can't say enough about how wonderful these people are.

Here I am 2 years later.... and wouldn't ya' know it happened again, but with a different dog. But this time, we weren't so lucky. My dog was blue when I got to the door of the AERC and he was seen immediately, and place in oxygen within minutes of arrival. If it wasn't for the quick work of the doctors and staff, I may have lost my boy. He has 2 vertebrae that have fractures and has been receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy! I am so glad that they are here and really put everything they can into saving lives!

My experience with the Animal Emergency & Referral Center has been fantastic! My first experience was when my dog crushed some vertebrae in his neck and was paralyzed from the front legs forward. They diagnosed him, performed surgery, and helped him walk again, Recently we had to have a very large fatty mass removed from his hind quarters and he came out of it with flying colors and is back to his old self. Everyone there is so kind and professional. I can't say enough about entire staff. If you ever need special care for your fur babies I highly recommend them.

I was forced to use this place a few years ago whe...

I was forced to use this place a few years ago when our cat became ill. Neither of our regular vets could make a definitive diagnosis after three weeks of tests, and this was the only emergency clinic locally at that time. The minute I walked in it was a $70 charge. I had to fill out paperwork first, then they took my cat in the back and sent me on my way. They didn't see her until after lunch, when I was asked to stop by so they could discuss with me what they would do. They did blood work and the usual exam in the morning, with her previous records being sent in. She had numerous tests and blood work done in the week prior, but they wanted more. Long story short, my sweet girl had cancer of the urinary tract. She was 17 and had always been in good health. I was puzzled because she never had any urinary issues her entire life...not one UTI. Anyway, after a scope, biopsies, meds, etc., they were keeping her for a few days with a catheter in while they hoped the Piroxicam would work. I came in to visit her, but was told I had to have an appointment. Really?? So I made the bloody appointment and came back the next afternoon. Even with the appointment, I waited an hour before I could see her. They finally brought her in wrapped in a towel that reeked of urine. I threw the towel on the floor and hugged her and apologized to her for them doing this to her. She was soaked in urine, and I was, too. And the skin on her behind was scalded from it. Yes, she had a catheter in, but they couldn't clean the bloody cage??? Suffice it to say that the next day they let me bring her home with the catheter in so that I could take proper care of her because apparently THEY COULD NOT. WTH do those techs do there besides give a bad attitude when you ask for something? Sadly, there was no hope for my girl and there never was. I spent over $4,000 at that place and she still left me. The real kicker is the day before we let her go, I brought her back in to have her bladder drained so she could at least be comfortable until she was to leave us the next day. They did as I asked AND they gave her a Convenia shot....a long-acting antibiotic shot when she was dying! What the bloody hell? And it cost me $160. If I could have given -5 I would. I will never use this place again nor will I recommend it. The only positive in this is that we had a wonderful vet come to our home to let her transition peacefully on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I am thankful for that.

Note to the vets and owner of this "practice"...it is NOT about money for us. Try to remember that.

What can I say that even begins to cover how wonderful the folks at AERC are, amazing comes to mind. My little CheeChee was attacked by a much larger dog on a Sunday afternoon. She was dying in my arms and I could see her going into shock as we drove to Ft. Pierce from Okeechobee, her injuries were critical. They took this little dog so broken and dying and gave her all they had. For 6 days they cared for her, worked with her and honestly none of us thought she would survive her injuries and surgeries, but on day 7, still very sick I brought Chee home and with the assistance of my local vet for daily wound care worked with her. A couple of days a week I took Chee back to AERC from West Palm Beach for hyperbaric treatments, and it was a miracle, I could literally see her wounds improving almost daily. After only 5 weeks, Chee's wounds have nearly completely closed, healed, broken ribs mended and she is nearly 98% back to her Chihuahua self. All I can say is that I love these people, these amazing caring and loving healthcare professionals who took in my little broken, wounded and dying baby and saved her. Thank you isn't enough but it's all I have. God bless all of you. Charlee & CheeChee

for all you animal lovers please read that this vet NOT PROFESSORIAL or COMPASSIONATE all they care about is the money they make .

Earlier in the day I was calling several vets researching coming across this vet asking about prices regarding my dog, spoke to this vet on the phone about my dog needing medical attention. They told me $70 (I did not have it at the time, I told them we would have it that night when my son came home from work) they told me to come in when I have the money.
As I was monitory my dog threw out the day I notice he urinated on his self, causing me great concern just at that time one of the vets that I called, had called me back an in a panic mode I told her what was going on and she said come in, I went in an she told me it was going to cost me $70 for an exam which I did not have at the time till later on that night , the doctor Cindy Wassermann came in an started giving me a serene about if (because I had no money until later on that night ) if a man came up to me on the street and ask me for money for himself and two children to feed would I give it to him, I said yes I would but that is not the same thing I came to you as a veterinary an a professional to help my sick dog that THEY KNEW was going to pass away , they still YET refused me and I AGAIN LEFT with my very sick , . Again I was refused treatment for my sick dog.
As I came home from getting my daughter from work, we noticed Louie was not breathing very well and wanted to bring him back in. My son gave me the $70 to get him exam but as I was driving to the vet my dog pass away in my arms.
Rest in peace Louie

It all came down to an upset stomach. Thank God! Thank you again so much for saving my girl. I will recommended you guys to anyone.

My senior dog (14) had a very bad seizure late Thursday night. My husband and I decided to take her to an emergency vet since it was her first seizure. Dr.'s Walter and Wasserman did a wonderful job at running diagnostic tests, keeping us updated and even keeping my dog over night to further test for a possible cancer. I cannot be thankful enough for the amazing job AERC did with my dog. Those of you who complain about it being expensive, just remember that the emergency room at the hospital would be just as expensive if you took yourself or a human family member there. Maybe you complainers should get pet insurance.

BUYERS BEWARE!!!! 70 dollars to walk in until you're told they're going to get you an estimate. I work in A/C business I see this everyday. Taking advantage of people in need. My "estimate" for a few staples and stitches on my dog was $1300 dollars. Plus the 70 I paid. I walked out took my dog to a reputable vet and only paid $350 to get the job done. My dog loves everyone except for some reason this vet he knew before i did. I will never step foot in this place again. If I could I'd give them no stars.

I would just like to say I am extremely thankful for the staff here. I don t often take time to review places but as a very young and terrified dog mom, animal emergency and referral was a life saver. My dog fractured her fibula and tibia in a very bad accident. Dr. Phillips was able to do beautiful work and repair it in a way that allowed my dog to keep her leg, something I thought I would have to remove due to lack of finances (one of the most horrible feelings in the world). They have answered all my calls and annoying dog mom questions about after care treatment and they treated my puppy with amazing care. Special shoutout to Dr. Whittis for being so patient and amazing during our initial consultation but also being incredibly honest so I could make an informative decision about my little pup (aka my 75 plus GSD). We have a long recovery but my girl came home on all 4s. Technically speaking (doggy sling and all). I can t thank them enough for the hard work they did!

I took an 8 week old cat to the center last week. I told the vet that I believed she had gotten into poison, maybe ant bait the neighbor put out and that she was actually trying to jump into a bucket of water, trying to drink. The vet said that she wasn t critical (she died that night at my home) She also said that Amdro ant killer is not toxic and proceeded to tell me that this baby had feline leukemia, FIV or rabies. She was dehydrated and the shot fluid under her skin, which is a sign of poison. I don t know if she didn t like cats, maybe a show was on in the back room she wanted to watch, or maybe just that bad of a vet.
If you love your pet go somewhere else, if you want your pet to die then this is the place to go.

They take care of your money first then your pet. After spending over 5k on a loved pet you should be able to ask how they are without getting the attitude of a 12yo at the font desk. Telling your customers different prices every time they come in should be an unacceptable practice. Just because your name has emergency in it does not mean have to take everything someone has to save a loved pet .

Our beloved 12 yr old Lhasa Apso Bengi developed a very sudden severe spinal injury causing total paralysis in his rear legs. After an examination at Kellys animal hospital in PSL they referred us to the Animal Emergency & Referral center in Fort Pierce to see a specialist. They called ahead to inform them of the dogs condition and I had a brief conversation with Dr Lyman. We immediately drove there and Bengi was taken right in for examination. About 30 minutes later Dr Lyman was ready to give us the results. He started out by detailing his experience and background in his field eventually leading up to how serious Bengi's condition was and our options. If there was anything positive about this day it was the true professionalism, care and compassion shown by Dr. Lyman and his staff as we started to understand how this sad and traumatic day was going to end. Knowing that there was almost no hope of recovery from this devastating injury even with surgery they gave Bengi some pain medication and brought him in so we could spend our last moments with him and say goodbye before they put him to sleep. My wife and I were totally in shock and grief stricken as it began to sink in that we would not be bringing Bengi home with us. As we were walking out a Staff member I believe her name was Elaine was there to console us with hugs. I cannot emphasize how much the entire staff at this facility helped make one of the worst days of our lives as best as it could be under the circumstances.
