Animal Clinic of Chardon Review

Very clean facility, very knowledgeable and friendly staff, and very caring doctors. They are great about followup phone calls to see how your pet is doing the day after a procedure. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. Highly recommend.

I liked this clinic when we were seeing Dr. Tom. He was always very friendly and warm. At one of our routine visits, we saw Dr. Erin Ervine. Our cat had an adverse reaction to her rabies shot and had to be brought back for the evening. Dr. Ervine was very cold. She seemed to have no empathy for the situation. Instead, she lectured me about the importance of vaccination and averted my questions.

I understand that allergies or adverse reactions can happen but I was extremely disappointed with the way Dr. Ervine handled the situation. I would not feel comfortable bringing my pets to her. Stick with the other doctors. The assistants here are always warm and helpful (especially positive experiences with Jennifer and Kristine).

A word of caution to this practice; clients can hear dialogue from the back when they are waiting in the exam rooms and we heard one of the vet techs complaining before we were seen.

Have never had a problem. EVERYONE is ALWAYS nice. Our pet loves going. They always take time to answer your questions. We usually deal with Dr Jessica and just love her, although everyone else we have dealt with, is great, too!

Doctor Tom and Doctor Wendy are ABSOLUTELY the best. Extremely kind and warm.
We had to put our 14 year old Jack Russell down, and they couldn't have been any kinder. Thank you so much.

My wife and I very recently had to put our cat, Penelope down. Being very hard to have to do, Kristine and Dr. Carolyn were very kind and patient. Thank you for making sure she was comfortable. On top of that, we received a written card also signed by them and it was very sweet. The level of compassion shown made it easier. Thank you ladies. It meant alot.

Best vets I have ever been to. They really take the time to explain everything to you and care about your pets.

Everyone i came in contact with was very nice and professional. We were greeted immediately and taken to a room even tho it was an emergancy add on visit and we had never been there before. Great experience!

Because of the consistent highest level of professional care, compassion and comfort knowing your in a well deserved aaha accredited facility is why I rate them so high. Also there is always a positive upbeat atmosphere throughout.

They are very slow here. Even with an appointment your looking at least an hour. It s very frustrating. They are also very, very expensive. I do like the doctors, but it s really the wait that upsets me the most.

I can not thank everyone at the Chardon Animal Clinic enough. I brought my dog in in an emergency state, or at least it was to me, she had a cyst that burst and was bleeding and the staff was absolutely wonderful! They were responsive and put me at ease while taking great care of my dog. The vet explained exactly what they did and what they found in detail, even showing me pictures. They made sure I understood what to do when we got home and called a few hours later just to check in!

I should mention that I called our normal vet and they wouldn t even see the dog until Monday. I called on a Friday... Chardon Animal Clinic did not hesitate to squeeze us in. For all the care we received, I believe they were reasonably priced as well.

We will definitely be going back. Thank you again!

always happy with their work. They make me and my kitty comfortable and answer all of my questions so I can understand them. I had an emergency one time and they took my cat in right away. Everything that they have recommended from food to toys. They may be half an hour from my house but its the only place I will go to

They are ridiculously over priced. I have been going there for 20 years now (before the new building) had my dogs teeth cleaned and signed a form that I authorize teeth extraction if needed but you would think they would call me and tell me before my 14lb dog needed 6 teeth pulled and it was going to be triple the quote. Terrible customer service I will never go back there.

Very friendly staff. Clean and comfortable environment. They do everything to help keep your pet comfortable and happy during the visit. Very happy pets there.

I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else, I actually drive from another county just to go there! Both my dog and cat have received care and boarding at this very clean, state-of-the-art facility. Every vet at the practice is very knowledgeable and if they don't have the answer they will contact other specialists in their field to find the answer. The vets are thorough and will let you know about future preventive care too keep your furry friend healthy. The staff will treat you as a family member and will not look at you like a dollar sign walking through the door. The prices are reasonable and the staff has waived office visit fees for me in the past. I wish I could go there for my own healthcare!!!!!

Absolutely the best care you can give to your pet!!

I brought my seriously injured kitten here when they were about to close. She was near death, and I was never here before. I must have looked like a crazy woman when I carried her in. They were so caring and professional. Dr Jess helped save my Nellie and I am forever grateful. They stayed late and genuinely cared about what happened to her. Needless to say I have switched my animals to the Chardon animal clinic. The care and attitude they provided at a difficult time spoke volumes to me. They are great with my animals!

This vet is phenomenal and they really care about your pets. They provide phenomenal care and are by far the best vet I have ever been too. If your near Chardon, they are worth the drive!

If you need professional quality care for your pet PLEASE take them here! I was taking my dogs to another place and it was fine with just the annual check ups and everything but once my GSD started having issues it started becoming a dreadful problem that they didn't know how to handle. Had many friends recommend the animal clinic of chardon and I finally went. The animal clinic knew exactly how to handle my pups situation in about 5 minutes where my other vet couldn't figure out what to do for months! These vets definitely have a lot more experience than other places and I will 10/10 recommend them to anyone I know now. The receptionist, techs, and doctors are all SO nice and very patient. They have lifted a weight off my shoulders and are finally going to make my fur baby feel better again. And prices, I think, are very comparable to most vets. The only thing I regret is not going to them sooner.

A bit disappointed with the route the vet proceeded to take with my ferrets' ear problems over the last year. Called them after trying the same medication a couple times and told them maybe they may have ear infections instead of mites (last appt. there weren't mites found in their ears) but they STILL proceeded to give me a prescription to try a new mite treatment. Felt like I wasn't heard and have been wasting my money.

The absolute nicest staff. They really care about my dogs and take the time to get to know us and explain everything.

I had to take my Sierra here because she was not doing well. The staff were all very attentive and considerate of our situation. Once we got the news on what was wrong and what our options were, they gave us time to think over the choices and offered assistance with any questions or concerns we may have had. Once the decision was made the staff stayed to console and reassure us we were doing the right thing. I will definitely be taking my other dog here from now on. Highly recommend this place.

Fantastic doctors and staff. Knowledgeable and caring. They treat your pets as if they were their own. We've been clients for over 35 years (prior to Drs. Frankman owning).

Dr. Carolyn and staff went above and beyond in helping my wife and I in a very difficult situation. Having to put down our beloved cat when one of us was not there was quite emotional. But they were patient and allowed the time to make sure we were all together at the end. Thank you for your kindness and consideration.

The whole team is great. All three of my dogs have gone here over the past 10 years. Dr. Tom even got along with my cranky old pup that hated everyone. Highly recommend!

----Overall satisfaction after an appointment

This clinic gets one star for each category except for the 3 most important categories--vets, pricing, and overall satisfaction.

They have an above average facility and staff, but you leave with only average satisfaction because the bill they give when you're about to leave includes testing that your pet never needed and prices that are usually at least 3-5x more than what other local vets charge.

Satisfaction then drops even lower after you realize that, although they are definitely knowledgeable... of statistics and research, they lack the common sense to apply it to your pet without you walking out of there with less than a $300 bill (when your pet just has a cold). For example, on one visit (my last visit), I literally got a bill for $330 that included: 1) antibiotics for something that they guessed was viral, 2) the medical advice: "make sure he rests and stays away from other pets" and 3) a lab test which they admitted, if it came back positive, didn't change their medical advice. I refused the lab test (bringing my bill to $250) and went to a different vet. The other vet charged me $30 for the entire visit including the same medical advice and antibiotics. And, more importantly, they determined (correctly) that it was just. A. Cold. From others I've later talked with, Animal Clinic of Chardon has a reputation for scaring the bejeezus out of owners with statements like, "If your pet has this (insert horrible disease here), and you don't pay for this (insert extremely expensive testing or procedure here), he could die." And again, it was just. A. Cold.

Is it better to err on the side of caution? Sure. And a good vet will do just that... and nothing more. This clinic goes overboard with testing, pricing, and 'what if' scenarios.

What makes things even worse though is the feeling you get that they're not doing it just for your pet (oh and DEFINITELY not for you, the pet owner) but also to inflate their own egos, especially Dr. Wendy-one of the owners, who likes to point out that's she's a Dr more than any Dr I've ever met or known, but won't take the time to consider the owner's views because, in her mind, you are not equals.

In sum, the most positive light I can put this clinic in is this:
Have you ever known the kind of grandma who makes you wear 10 layers on a breezy day -just in case? She dismisses you when you ask, "Isn't that unnecessary because we all know illness comes from germs, not the cold?" Then she points out self righteously, "you didn't even consider that the cold can theoretically lower your immune system which can then make you less able to fight off the germs and more likely to get sick" all the while, upset that you dared to question her, since she's obviously so much older and wiser than you? If you agree with the Grandma in this scenario and want that extra assurance that every possibility has been covered, even if it's not likely and makes no common sense, and if you have the extra money to spend, this may be the place for you.

I moved to the area and had to find a new vet. This place is awesome! If I can find a doctor that treats me as well as ACOC treated my dog and I, I'd be ecstatic! Staff was great and the service was just as good. I'll definitely be returning.

Extremely friendly staff that listens to your concerns and gets your pet taken care of in a fear free environment. We were in and out of the clinic and we were given so much useful information for puppies. Definitely would recommend to anyone searching for a veterinarian. I will be taking my dog here for a long time!

Our Golden mix was diagnosed with type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes around age 4 and lived another 9 years thanks to expertise, compassion and education offered by the wonderful staff at ACOC. This is the place to go if you're an engaged pet owner with lots of questions. Dr Tom is a born educator who is always telling you more than you were aware to even ask about. Thanks to the confidence that he and the ACOC crew afforded us, my wife and I rescued another diabetic pup from IL when our sweet Golden was nearing the end of her long journey with us. With the depth of expertise they offer, we fully expect our new sugar dog to live a long healthy life as well. ACOC is staffed by people who are as crazy about their pets as we are. The get it!

After our cat fell very ill last October, the Animal Clinic of Chardon was able to see her within a matter of hours (our previous vet did not have any open or emergency appointments available). Upon our first visit, and future visits with our other cats, the staff has always welcomed us with warm smiles and friendly greetings. The veterinarians and vet techs are extremely knowledgeable and are patient with explaining best forms of care and upcoming preventative measures to take with our cats. In addition, the Animal Clinic of Chardon ALWAYS calls to check on our cats, especially our cat who is chronically ill. I'm always able to speak to a veterinarian or a vet tech over the phone when needed. The Animal Clinic of Chardon truly cares about our cats as if they were their own! If you're looking a veterinarian, you don't need to look any further!

My buddy Theodore was in bad shape. Being a ferret he is hard to have looked at but I found this wonderful clinic. The staff was very kind and helpful, the doctor did what they needed to do and referenced me to a place I could have him get surgery.

Thank you Animal Clinic of Chardon for taking such amazing care of our pets. Recently our beloved cat Lulu of 16+ years got critically ill and we chose to euthanize her to end her suffering. The ACOC was absolutely amazing to Lulu & to our entire family. We wouldn't entrust any other place to care for our pets. The doctors & entire staff are all very caring, patient, amazing and very kind. If you are looking for the best place for your animals look no further. You will not be disappointed. They also do what ever they can to make your pet feel comfortable if they fear strange places & people. We are so thankful that we found our forever veterinary clinic!

Amazing staff first and foremost! Kind, warm and always excited to see my pooch! Staff knowledge and treatment are second to none. Great facility with separate entrances for dogs and cats. Nice amenities as well, including boarding and animal bathing station. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

I bring my pets here and every member of the staff has ALWAYS been wonderful. Whether it s over the phone or in person they are kind, friendly, helpful, and they explain in detail. If it s questions, appointments, prescriptions, you name it, they get back to you so quickly. I live in Streetsboro and it s worth the 45 minute drive to Chardon.

De. DeMarco is a true lover of animals. Brought our diesel in close to closing with a possible fracture/sprain. She took care of us with the help of her staff and literally helped get Diesel back on her feet fast. Recommend this clinic for just an appointment or immediate needs. You will feel cared for here as well as you pet!!!

Update: While initially they were fantastic, the front office staff needs training. They re unable to answer questions, always deferring to a nurse. They lack knowledge to give estimates for common procedures such as spays & neuters. When attempting to get an appointment for my dog who is struggling with allergies, they couldn t get me in for a week. When I became frustrated because my dog is uncomfortable, Kim, told me she had five emergencies from the weekend. A true emergency would have went to an after hours facility during the weekend. The lack of empathy and compassion received is appalling considering the fees charged. I made the decision to pay a premium for premium care. Clearly it s not consistent. We called Big Creek they offered a same day appointment.
Their doctor and staff were caring and understanding. Had a decided to stay with ACOC my dog would still be uncomfortable waiting for an appointment.

Disappointed. Wish we could get our money back for the overcharged vaccines and heartworm/flea prevention.

Certified Fear-Free practice with up-to-date knowledge of training and behavior as well as medicine. Not the cheapest, but top quality care and service, and when one of my animals has a problem, they explain thoroughly, answer all my questions, and clarify all options. For example, they might tell me that option 1 is the "do everything" approach for $x, doing nothing will likely result in Y, and there may be other options in between. They give printed estimates and their opinion on the most logical approach, and give me time to consider my decision. They also welcome visits from pets who are learning not to fear the vet.

I thought the world of Dr. Tom until I overheard how condescending he treats the girls behind closed doors. I couldn't believe this was the same man that was in the room with me not 5 minutes before. I will not be back.

We've been here about a dozen times for check-ups and vaccines for our dog and cats. We also had our senior cat's teeth cleaned. The vets, technicians and staff are awesome. They are patient, kind and full of information that they love to share. They are always eager to help. We have never felt rushed out the door and we have always been verbally given a huge amount of helpful information. We even get printed notes about our visit in at the end of our visit that contains to what was done and discussed. And to top it off, their prices are fair and reasonable. I always leave their feeling great. They really care. I appreciate all that they have done.

They are wonderful! The front desk service is exceptional. They go out of their way to help me order food or to pick up other supplies. Dr. Tom got down on the floor to examine my cat so he could stay in his carrier where he felt safe. It was clear to me that my cat's health and well-being were his top priorities, and he spent considerable time talking with me about his care. Quite honestly, I was more than impressed. I was truly grateful.

We had some really bad care from some other practices, and it was pointed out to us that we should seek out an AHAA certified veterinary clinic as most clinics don't do all the extra things to get this certification. We have not been disappointed. The level of care they have shown our two dogs is fantastic. Most of the exams our boys have had were very quick exams, but not at this clinic. The doctors do a very length and extended exam and I am grateful for that with our boys getting up their in their years.

We also have a cat and I like how they separate the waiting rooms for the cats so they don't get scared by the dogs. Not only is it separated, but there is a wall so they cats don't even see the dogs.

One person commented on price.... yes, vets can be expensive, but they don't seem much different than some of the other vets we have gone to. I'm willing to pay a little extra to get high quality care for my animals. We also signed up for their preventative health program, so this helps take some of the bite out of the cost as well. This is a great feature to help us keep up with our pets care at a reasonable cost. I'm sure we will be coming here for a long time, even though it is a bit of a drive from Perry.

Everyone is so awesome here! It's all about the care and devotion to the health and quality of life of each and every animal. This is such a caring, thoughtful, helpful and considerate group of people to human and animal alike. If you truly love your animal, this is the place to take them.

Perfect place for all of our pet needs...everyone is amazing

I could not imagine taking my beloved dogs and kitties anywhere else! My regular vet office would not fit me in when my one senior dog became very ill. I called Animal Clinic of Chardon and without hesitation took him in. That is when I decided switch vet practices for all my pets. Then recently my little dog was attacked by a viscous dog and when I arrived with Ella they were standing out by the door ready to take care of her. Dr. Tom and team was incredible in caring for Ella and fixing all her wounds. Not only did they show her compassion, but they also were very compassionate with me as I was a total mess over the ordeal. On top of the excellent vet care and wonderful staff, this practice has saved the lives of homeless animals. How many vet practices can say they do that? The Angel Fund is incredible and have saved many a lives!

My German Shepherd is afraid of everyone. They take their time with him and put him at ease. It took a while for him but he is at point that he doesn't really seem to mind going to the Vet.

With everything going on, we struggled to find someone to see our cat. And it was an emergency. ACoC let us come in that day. And kept our cat for a week. They sent us photos, constantly updated us, cared for us and our fur baby better than we ever dream. I reccomend them to EVERYONE. Mostly because they care deeply for saving your family members as if they were caring for their own.

Great staff, great veterinarians wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. Dr. Tom and Dr. Jess are the best.

This place gives wonderful care to my cats. They are very attentive, take their time when needed, and explore all the different options available for treatment. The place is clean, well staffed and I have never had a significant issue with any of the doctors. The only thing that keeps them from five stars is the price. This is not a choice for someone with modest income. Yes, we all want the best for our little beasts, but the bills here can be considerable. Just keep that in mind, and don't hesitate to ask for estimates of treatment when you are there.

Not only do I like this place, my fog does too. They are a no fear clinic and really take good care of your pets. Hands down best bet clinic I have ever been to!

Vets here treat your pets like your children. They are very caring and strive to make your animals life the best it can be. They are not just trying to make money.

This Animal Hospitial is the absolute best. The doctors are awesome and so are the client service representatives and all the staff in general. They really do care for your animals and are always kind. I have been coming here for a year now and there are just no words for for this place except that it is awesome. One of the things I like most is that they always answer the phone and they always return messages. My point is they deserve your business and they are very fair when it comes to money. Every visit with my Cockapoo, Shaylo, is an awesome visit at ACOC! The staff treats Shaylo as if she was their pet! They take their time explaining everything and anything! I highly recommend ACOC to anyone that is looking for a new vet! :)

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Tom Frankmann for many years. I have highest regard for Tom and the Animal Clinic of Chardon. There is no vet clinic that cares for our pets better than them. My dog recently broke his leg and Dr. Tom made special arrangements on his day off to assist us during this traumatic moment. We have since been kenneling our recovering dog at the clinic while we are at work and the special care is extraordinary. They have been checking his bandaging and making sure my dog is comfortable and healing. The clinic is state of the art; the staff is tremendous; the facility is perfectly clean and I would recommend the Animal Clinic of Chardon to anyone. You get what you pay for and so much more.

We had an urgent situation with our dog and couldn't get into see our regular vet until the next day. Even though we had never been there, they were able to see our dog and take care of her immediately. They couldn't have been nicer to us, and we felt that they charged us very fairly. Highly recommend them.

We have taken our Bichon mix to ACOC for many years now after having her at two other area vets and would recommend anyone looking for a professional, friendly, veternary clinic to try it

Just the best! Staff is always extremely kind, and caring. We see Dr. Tom, and he is always so thorough, and really takes the time listen to concerns and questions. All of the doctors and staff are beyond wonderful. We have been with them for over 9 years, and couldn't be happier about the care they give our pets!

Our cat got 5 star care and the staff was very pleasant. I'm on a fixed income and it cost $270 to put our cat down. I don't know if that's high or low, seems alittle high to me. They will offer a line of credit, but no thanks. Again A+ care if you got the cash, there are some cheaper options in lake county I think. But our cat went to sleep with no pain, and it was very peaceful. Thank you.

We just moved back to Ohio and Terri had referred us here! This place is amazing! My pup Daisy loves the girls who helped us. Christine and Terri were excellent with her and made it a fear free check up. Thank you Dr. Askew and staff for a great first visit. We will be back for sure!

I brought my ferret to see Dr Frankman - and he was beyond outstanding in his knowledge and handling of my ferret. He was right up there on recent medical developments & treatments for ferrets. Additionally, my ferret needed an implant, and he was the best I've seen in my 10 yrs to administer the implant. It was quick & efficient - therefore minimal pain for my ferret. The best - I'd recommend Dr Frankman to all.

I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate the staff here. We had been up all night trying to figure out what was wrong with our cat... The staff here were so kind to us in our time of need, and made the process of putting her down one full of care and sympathy. This will become our permanent vet with our new cat. Go here.

We switched to the Animal Clinic when we got a new puppy 4 years ago. We have an older dog who has required quite a bit of extra attention and the veterinarians have been amazing with her from Day 1. And they have given the younger dog the same attention without hesitation. The entire staff goes above and beyond to make our experiences excellent, including the new app that includes easy to order medications refills!!

I love this place! They take such good care of my chocolate lab, in all aspects. We board her there as well and our sweet pup loves it! Every person there is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I could not recommend a better place if you're desire is to have your pup well cared for and loved!

Excellent clinic! Appointments easily available. Incredible customer service from the first call all the way through the entire process. Clinic vet's are knowledgeable, professional, and thorough yet still concerned and personal. Even boarded pets there and was impressed with the care while we were gone. I highly recommend this clinic and plan to be a client for a long time.
