Everything was lovely until our experience with a very rude waiter, who asked us to leave as our 2 hours was up and eat our food when it does arrive, outside on the sidewalk. Didn't have time to take pics, or taste food so can't comment on anything else.
What's not to love? The Thames, an historic pub, imbibing a few pints and a few Pimm's with friends. Love it!
Nice atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks on the south bank.
Great place to drink a beer and eat good pub food! I recommend.
Perfect pub for a sunny day. Great deck bu the Thames with views to St Paul's. Queues at the bar can be quite long.
Try the sweet potatoes chips. Great beer variety, try the Punk IPA draft. Good location ambient.
This place is not the most delicious of the network, plus here it's not so cozy. The menu is badly shabby, I think there are more tourists of the week local, and the result is displayed on the food. You can have a snack, but nothing special, ordered a pie, it was very dry.
One of the best pubs in London in my opinion. Located on the banks of the River Thames, The Anchor is one of the oldest pubs in the city. With typical dishes, warm architecture and traditional ales, The Anchor delivers you to a purely British experience.

British traditional pub set in a fantastic place by river Thames. Friendly atmosphere and very good food.
We had dinner at Sunday evaning with my friends and we were disappointed because waiters was unfriendly and the food wasn't enough and delicious !
Lovely location right on the Thames. Friendly staff and excellent terrace. Food, beer and tv's it has everything you may want for a quick drink, a snack or a meal.
Great place to sit in the sun. Fish and chips is awesome.
Quite English pub, you have to order in person but then they served us at the table, not bad.
Good location, delicious foods, perfect beer. What else need...?
Yep, tourist trap is about right. The only reason I would go here is if I was in the area with someone who really wanted to have a drink 'by the river' and I couldn't think of anywhere better to go. More Taylor Walker mundanity. Boring drinks and unpleasant toilets. If you care about where you drink then forsake the river and go to one of the several decent pubs in the London Bridge area.
Hard to beat the outside garden area, right on the Thames.
Charming atmosphere and great location. Nicely busy with a terrace looking at the crowd and river. Food is OK/standard for a pub.
Nice pub, very fast serving food, and with excellent location. Food is very good, but is not in the top.
Great place in a great building! We had authentic British pub food and it was delicious!
The guy serving us was a bit unfriendly but the rest of the people working there were nice. They also serve awesome gin!
Good atmosphere, correct quality food, nothing outstanding, little personality lacking as its quite busy.
Pros: Old, lots of character, great views on a series of outdoor patios. Cons: Prices reflect its location, poor food and teeming with tourists. All in all well worth a visit but perhaps not a long session unless you get a nice spot in the summer sun.
Fantastic location! It's right next to the Thames River. This pub is ancient and you will realise that before you even step foot inside. Also it's a big place with multiple floors and very traditional decor. Food, drink, desert it's all in here. It can get busy sometimes but there is so much space you can always find a spot. It's one of those pubs where you order food at the bar. I ordered a falafal burger with chips as that seemed like a good veggie option, but apart from that they had alot of traditional dishes like fish and chips etc. at Fair prices (for London). There is also a beer Garden, WiFi, Sky/BT sports, disabled facilities. There is alot going on in the immediate surroundings also, so I would recommend visiting.
Fantastic atmosphere, good food, good location. A historic gem of a building too.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
I checked before arriving that Dominic Cummings wasn't there so I felt safe.
tourist magnet great place though good roof terraces
Beautiful building on the outside, stereotype on the inside with mediocre food. Unfortunately you can get the same experience at a dozen other places
Great atmosphere and location. Good wait staff. Love the outdoor seating
Great pub on the South bank. Small terrace on the 1st floor is good if you can get a seat. Large outside seating area overlooking the Thames.
Fantastic place and amazing ambience. Their Chicken platter is perfect along with Guinness pint!
Stay away from this shop. External impression is good, so we went in. To order the food, I had to wait about 20 minutes at the bar in line. When washing my hands on the toilet, I realized that there was a nice black mold around the sink. The table really dirty table was wiped only on request, the used handkerchiefs from our predecessors but left. My Sunday roast plus side dishes had room temperature, my girlfriend's mashed potatoes had already formed a dry crust from the long rumbling. After complaining, I got a new Sunday roast that looked the same way fresher and the potatoes were hot too. At the next table, a family of three allowed all the food to go back, as the food was cold and dry. This family also complained about the substitute food. At least they got the money back.
Conclusion: Not recommended
A amazing place with Samuel Pees garafit on the wall. It ain't at 20th century thing, great beer and lovely outside space by the river the only downside is its stupidly busy on a nice day
Every time my late Mother traveled through London, she made it a point to go to The Anchor; she thoroughly enjoyed the place! Though she rarely drank, she always made a point to have a pint while she was there!! Though I have only visited The Anchor once, I shall also stop there in her honor. Thanks to your establishment for giving my Mom such wonderful memories!! 8-)
Lovely building, very popular so can be extremely busy.
Really, that's such a good pub. Unfortunately overcrowded but the food and the beer are still good.
Awesome traditional pub, with a Riverside view in a pedestrianised area of the Southbank. The inside has more than one bar, and even on a busy Saturday afternoon, no problem getting served. It also has an outside terrace where you can sit and watch the world go by.
Classic English pub by the river.. worth a visit esp in a nice weather. Quite expensive but normal for that area and by the river. After work it's a nice environment to be
... historic place ... unjustified waiting for 4 Fish and chips and 4 beers ... all good ...
A favourite of ours, when we do our yearly visit to London. Always good food, drink and surroundings.
It was nice, took a long time to be served outside but only one person was serving. Patience is a virtue. They could do with more staff going around tidying up as there were a lot of empty glasses around, however would go again, lovely to sit by the river on a summers day.
A tourist trap, but has the great benefit of a Thames front drinking area.
Very centrally located between London bridge and Waterloo for easy journey home after a few pints
Great choice of beers, spirits and soft drinks with a great view of the river
A great spot for a bit of Morris dancing. Beer expensive
Reasonable range of beers given the location. Good atmosphere, international crowd (English, Irish, Swiss, Argentinian) when visited.
Really nice pub along the Thames just by London Bridge. It s got a lovely outside terrace by the water for when the weather is good (also a lovely spot upstairs too), as well as heaps of seating inside - it s like a maze.
Can get fairly busy and has a lot of tourists, but prices are pretty reasonable despite this - just what you would expect in London.
A fantastic pub situated on the banks of the Thames. It has external tables, overlooking the river; It has 3 floors, and is always busy and lively, especially at happy hour. The food is great and the beers are always chilled.
Tasty fish and chips and other British cuisine are served. Price is acceptable.
Vile. Staff were rude, whole place was dirty, food was awful and one burger came with raw bacon!! When we complained they weren t surprised at all. Says it all doesn t it really? Don t be drawn in my the look of the place outside. One of the worst places I ve ever been to.
Good pub in a great location. Lots of hidden nooks to sit in. Service can sometimes be a bit slow but it's generally good.
Their main dish is Fish & Chips, the price is great for the London average (13 pounds and portions are plentiful). You order food at the bar and perhaps it would be the only thing to improve, but the suggestive position guarantees the 5th star !!! I will return.
The place was very nice. Also, like in most places I've visited in London, the staff was very pleasant. However, it was kind of expensive for what we got, i.e. standard beer and not so good fish and chip. Hence, I felt it was a bit of a tourist trap...
Expensive and not tasty. The problem with free places. Dirty
Very old pub beautifully situated on the Thames. With several small pubs in the pub.
Never had the food but a great place for drinks and a great atmosphere. Awesome rooftop terrace as well
Building is very atmospheric, but you can find better quality pub food elsewhere.
John and his team totally pulled out the stops for me and my partner, after having a bad expereince with I went there for a Christmas meal, John welcomed us if it were his own home, Scott the barman on duty was so lovely and accomodating, I had the steak and ale pie, I am not kidding when I say it was the best I have ever eaten, served a beautiful medley of vergetables and creamy mash, all washed down with a couple of 'pornstars' my partner had fish and chips and totally loved it, overall it was a lovely expereince and will definately go back, thank you John and your delightful team. Helen
Aesthetically very beautiful, it remembers a bygone London!
Unfortunately the pub isn t able to keep the good service when is packed.
My sister has ordered a cheese and tomato salad and received her salad without cheese.
I ordered a lasagna and it came frozen in the middle.
When I complained about it the supervisor wasn t keen to give us a replacement and didn t manage the situation well at all.
I paid 9 for them to microwave me a lasagna and they weren t able to do it.
The supervisor offered me a drink instead of the food which I don t think was a good way of solving it as I was still hungry after all.
Won t be coming back or recommending to anyone.
Great place to stop off on your stroll along the Thames.
Thriving pub with huge outside area. Recommend on a sunny day.
the nice location with a good river-view gave me a precious time
Fantastic riverside pub, full of atmosphere and great views. Dating back to 1615 and with views across the river to St Paul's Cathedral, you'd be hard pushed to find a better location. Inevitably this makes it very busy at times, but since there are so many seating areas with a bit of searching you can almost certainly find a spot for lunch/dinner etc. I found the roast passable, though nothing special (why a mere tablespoon of gravy?), but overall a lovely pub with friendly staff.
Miraculously turned my beer into water. It isn't the 1980s anymore.
