American Custom Exteriors & Interiors Review

American Custom put a new roof on our home and they did a fantastic job! They were very professional and they were meticulous when cleaning up each day! I would use them again.

The entire team at American Custom was fantastic. Our 1905 American Four-Square home was restored and brought back to life. New windows were installed throughout the house with careful attention to match original interior wood trim and without damage to the existing trim. A gorgeous stained-glass window was installed in the front stairwell, which looks original to the home and compliments the other original stained-glass pieces throughout the house. On the outside, new fiber glass columns were installed to replace rotted wood porch columns. High quality dark blue pvc siding, with the appearance of wood grain was installed meticulously by the team to ensure seems were not obvious. Thick bright white exterior aluminum trim was carefully selected by American Custom to be time period correct, maintenance free and really made the dark blue pop. A great group of hardworking, professional people! We continue to recommend them to all family and friends.

We welcomed Steve Gallagher from American Custom Exteriors and Interiors into our home on Wed., March 6, to talk with us about a set of three kitchen windows we want to replace this spring/summer. This was a rescheduled appointment since the company cancelled the first appointment a few weeks before, on the day of the appointment.

While here, we had Steve take measurements of six bedroom windows we will also replace over the next year or two. We asked that he provide us with a quote by the end of the week so that we could compare it with quotes we received from two other companies. He didn't know if he could respond that quickly, but agreed to talk with his supervisor and would make an effort to meet our request.

We have not heard from the company since March 6, and today is March 20. A phone call or email (he took both our email addresses) to say that it would take more than a few days to calculate the info would have been appreciated. Even a message telling us that there was no way we could be fit into their schedule would have been acceptable. But nothing.

We are left to wonder what the reason is for such unprofessional behavior. We reside in a poor area of the city, in an old house, but it is obvious to any visitor that we have invested a significant amount of money in renovations and improvements in this 1910 home we've lived in for 33 years.

American Custom Exteriors has left a sour taste in our mouths. We rated it 1-star only because a "no star" rating was not available.

Called the company the receptionist was very rude and rushed me off the phone.

Nate and his crew from American Custom Exteriors did a beautiful job of residing our nine peak house by covering the weathered cedar siding with double 5 CertainTeed Monogram vinyl siding. They were there every morning during a cold snap this spring and still maintained their attention to detail and production rate despite the weather. Nate was a magician at wrapping all the windows in pvc coated aluminum trim to accommodate the existing siding which was not stripped off. You can't notice it. The windows really stand out and compliment the new vinyl siding. I would recommend Mark Tantalo and American Custom Exteriors to anyone interested in a first class job.

It was a pleasure to work with professionals who are genuinely interested in doing a quality job. I had all siding, windows and gutters replaced,and added additional insulation, which added value to my house, and decreased my heating/cooling costs. Everyone, from Kevin, Brian and Marc to the office staff and the guys on the job, went the extra mile to make this a great experience. And the house looks great!

This is the best company I have experienced in our 48 years of home ownership. For each of the projects, roof, siding, and windows, the crews were outstanding specialists in their area of expertize. We've hired this company 3 times, and each time they've done terrific work. They worked miracles in our tottering 1905 house installing a shower and 2 large closets. In the current house, they did equally good work replacing entry doors, all the windows, and renovating the bathroom. American Custom has considerate, polite workmen - and they're wholly competent.

If you hire someone cheap - window guys, contractors, roofers - you're asking for trouble; trouble MUCHO! The deal looks good until they start and your life becomes an utter misery. And soon, the permanent mistakes have become a permanent drag. But hire the best contractors and very soon you won't care about the money anymore and you'll have a proper job.

We had our house sided by American Custom Exteriors. It was a great experience for us. They did a great job and we've had many compliments on how our house looks now. They met with us every morning and evening to status us on the day's work. Everything was cleaned up every night. I've recommended American to friends and family and will continue in the future.

Last year we had American Custom update our home with a new roof, new siding and new double front doors. From beginning to end of job we could not have been more pleased with the high quality workmanship and expertise of each work crew. They treated us like family and our home, as if it were their own. Wish I could rate 10 STARS! American Custom was recommended to me by another siding contractor (believe it or not). After I called, it was only a matter of days before the Account Executive, Kevin M., came out to see me and discuss my project. I had already spoken with three other contractors. Kevin was the only one to ask me to walk him around the house and look at the existing siding. He asked me questions about what I wanted, what my concerns were, and listened to my answers. He showed me some options for siding and colors - we even talked about our mutual love of dogs! - and he said he'd be back in touch. Within a week, he called again and asked to come back out to present his proposal. NONE of the other contractors had bothered to do that in person - just sent an estimate, lump sum, with no itemization of what they would do, what was included, what I was getting, etc. ONLY American Custom took the time to carefully go over the estimate, again listening to my concerns, and finding the best solution for my budget. They were not the lowest estimate, but they were not the highest. They were also about $5000 above my budget - but they offered financing, at a competitively low 5.99% APR, which none of the other contractors did. They do not take a down payment - like the others insisted. All payment is collected after the job is complete. The sales team even warned me about this deceptive contracting practice - NO ONE should EVER be expected to pay up front, for a legitimate contracting job. An important lesson I can apply to all future jobs ...! They offered proof of insurance and indemnification from liability in case of an accident on the job - unlike any of the others. They provided a detailed written contract - again, taking the time to walk me through it and answer all my questions and concerns. When it came time for the job, I lucked out when they had an opening, and my siding was done about 4 weeks ahead of estimated start time. The crew foreman, Nick, and his team of installers were brilliant. They started each day around 7 am and wrapped up around 4 pm each afternoon. Every day they cleaned up the yard, swept out the garage, and even raked the flower beds where dust and debris had fallen during the course of work. Courteous, polite, respectful, fun and friendly, these guys were a true team of professionals. They also took the time to explain additional repairs and associated costs (I had some serious wood rot they discovered, in some places, which we had anticipated during the sales/estimate phase, so that was no surprise). The job was finished within 5 days, except the shutters (which came in about 2-3 days later) and the gutters (which followed about a week later). Now the project is complete and I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend American Custom contractors, and plan to call them in for some interior work in the future.

American Custom sided my house in January 2018. I could not be happier with the job they did. Having seen other siding jobs completed by other companies on houses in the city of Rochester, I was very impressed with attention to detail, e.g. the aluminum wrap around the windows, crown moldings, caulking any gaps. The finished product looks very very sharp and considerably better than the typical siding job I've seen. I wouldn't hesitate use American Custom Exteriors in the future and I've recommended them to friends already.

They are doing a roof next door to me right now. Even though there is a driveway on the other side of the house to put a dumpster (like we were promised) they chose to throw the old roof against my house when they tore it off. It landed in my back yard, front yard and beyond. I have lots of black skid marks against my house where the material hit it. Not just roofing material but large chunks of wood also. I went out and was told to relax because we're roofers and that's what we do. I asked them to cover my windows at least and they refused.

Had a kitchen done.. Terrible workman ship.. Damaged cabinets , uneven floor tiles *see pictures*.. They damaged personal property .That they would NOT PAY FOR!!!! ..Construction dust & debris over home, They refused to put up plastic...Final numbers dramatically increased on final bill without explanation. EXTRA CHARGE OF %10 PROFIT& %10 OVERHEAD on final bill. ..and if you do not use their services you still pay * see photo*...Pictures are current..They do not stand behind their work!!!..The most DISHONEST PEOPLE and COMPANY we have ever run across!. .. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM...Zero Stars!!.

We had a complete tare off and new roof replaced with all new soffits and gutters and everything turned out great! All the contractors were very nice and did a nice job. We were very pleased and will use American again for future projects!

We had an extensive remodel done by American Custom that included an addition, a rebuild of both a back and front porches, siding the house and garage, a new main bathroom, and a remodeled bedroom. This project took approximately 7 months and through this whole process America Custom was wonderful. Kevin Goodwine was very helpful as the project manager and the varying crews were polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. We worked with an architect through American Custom to design the addition and front porch and American Custom delivered on the plans we dreamed up. We came out on time and on budget. We are very satisfied with our home!! We will be calling American Custom for future remodeling projects.

Our roof was damaged due to the windstorm this Spring, and the quote from Mark was appropriate for the work required. American Custom Exteriors and Interiors renovated our kitchen and bathroom in the 100 year old house we bought in East Rochester and they did a top quality job at a very good price. Juan and his team, who worked on our house, showed great attention to detail, workmanship and even added custom shelves to our bathroom that really make a huge difference. Our job involved plumbing, roofing, siding, electric and interior renovations and American Custom has expertise in all these areas which was reflected in how well and how on schedule the job was done.

I trusted American Custom Exteriors and Interiors to add a 19"x12" screened-in room in place of our existing brick patio. I have used them previously to install our windows, doors and siding. I dealt directly with Marc Tantalo who is a VP of the company and our experience was outstanding as usual. All employees are very highly skilled, very attentive and pay very high attention to detail. We had all our windows replaced as well as a sliding glass door, and the project was flawless! From getting the quote to having the windows installed, the entire process was very easy. A couple of weeks ago we had a little problem with some siding that had lifted due to wind. We asked Marc Tantalo from American Custom, who had installed our new roof for us last September, to stop over to take a look at it. We needed to find out what must be done. In a few days Marc was at our door telling us it was fixed. He did it himself!! No doubt who we will call for any future repairs, updates, remodeling that we might need.

A note about our roof. We were very pleased from our first meeting with Marc through the completion of the job by his men. Everything was handled very professionally and thoroughly. One very important factor was the excellent clean up. We couldn't be happier with this company.

They REFUSED to put up plastic to protect the home. The damages created by American Customs, they refused to pay the homeowner for. They were the only contractor in the residence. Their workers Installed product incorrectly. They sued the homeowner for money they did not earn on work they did not due. Dishonest People, Dishonest Company.

When it comes to finding someone to work on your home it can be a very daunting task.

Project: Replace cedar siding, gutters, sliding door, windows.

Our goal was to eliminate as much outside painting as possible with a vinyl siding that resembled six inch cedar natural wood siding. We met with a number of local contractors to explain what we would like done. It was important that only employees of their respective companies perform the work, no subs.

We herd a number of stories but few offered creative suggestions, explained material options, or even mention necessary insurance required to protect the home owner. We were not comfortable with any until we met Mark Tantalo of American Custom Exteriors & Interiors. He listened to our requests, answered all of our questions, and delivered a great presentation. He explained the metal work details around all the trim work American Custom does that sets them apart. He earned our business.

American Custom Exteriors was great experience, no surprises, no pressure, and easy to do business with. The office staff and the guys who do the work took pride in a job well done.

We have recommended American Custom to other's with the same accolades repeated. Give American Custom the opportunity when it comes to remodeling you will be happy you did.

Chose American Custom to redo my kitchen and results are outstanding. Steve listened to my wants and needs and was very patient through numerous meetings as we discussed my preferences. Julie was project coordinator and did an excellent job with researching and finding components that I wanted. Wind storm 2016 was a disaster at my house. Had contacted several well known companies and none would help because it was not a full roof job. Finally contacted American and they immediately sent out Steve for the appraisal. He handled all the insurance work and made sure the roof was secured. He said it would be several months until they got to us. They honored their word and in the fall the job was completed. American went above and beyond to help us out and complete the job. Would recommend them to everyone. Definitely a 5 star business!

2002 - we needed roof and siding done. A colleague recommended American Customs as he was happy with his roof job. Anthony R inspected the roof and siding and presented detailed proposals that impressed us and we signed up. Roofing crew did a complete tear down and great job. Later siding crew tore down old siding and did a fantastic job. The aluminum trim was done by Lyle, whose creations amazed us, he made it look so easy. Siding looks like new today after 16 years. 2017 - the 80 MPH gale force wind that ravaged through Rochester blew away few shingles on the front section of the roof. Didn't think much of it thought it would be few hundred dollars to fix the 6 or 8 shingles. Called American C and Kevin G had a look and said to our surprise that we will have to replace the front roof completely and he gave us a rough figure and said that the Insurance would pay and he would deal with them. We said OK, the Insurance adjuster came by and said " no way the insurance company is going to pay for the whole of the front roof". We did know how to handle this and I got a local roof repairer to repair the few shingles for a couple of hundred dollars. Then out of the blue, got a call from the adjuster said that the insurance company would pay the American C estimate less a thousand and we would pay a depreciation fee.
Kevin must have done a fantastic job with the insurance company and we were thrilled, we decided as the roof was 15 years old best to do the whole roof, less the rear section due our solar panels. Kevin came over with a proposal and explained in detail what the job entailed, provided shingles sample. He was so easy to work with, listened and answered all our questions.
The roofing crew came and again as expected did a complete tear down and great job with the new installation. They were careful not to damage plants and other things around the perimeter of the house.
Our windows were getting old and some sealed units were show signs of wear. We noticed on American C display board that they installed windows and since the siding crew had done a such a great job with trim around the windows we thought who could be better to install our new windows than American C. Called Kevin G and said that we would like to replace all 32 windows and a patio door. He came over with a proposal, and sample windows for us to choose from, we agreed and signed on the dotted line. His brother Bryan G would come to do the measuring.
Bryan G who was just like Kevin G was very easy to deal with and answered all the questions measured the windows and the patio door explained the process of installation and said that it would be a few months for the windows to be ready. It was late October and the winter was approaching and we did not want our windows installed in the cold, we emailed Julie N the Production Manager who is also an easy to deal with, to hold off until 2018 April or May. She also dealt with any problems that may crop up efficiently.
As it turned out 2018 early winter was cold and in May Mike X and Mike Y arrived with smiles on their faces and a truck load of windows. It was obvious that they were experienced in their trade and the windows and the patio door were installed with utmost care and attention. They were very pleasant to work with and took care ensure that the interior and exterior of the house was tidy and damage free, and took the time needed to complete the job to our great satisfaction.
We can recommend American Customs with confidence and plan on using them again. They do not subcontract jobs to third parties, the Installers who are careful and experienced in their particular trade, stay on to see the job through until completed compared some contractors who start a job and leave to work on other jobs. That the installers don't seem to be multitasking by being jack of all trades is another key benefit.

American completed a whole house siding project for me in 2013 and did a great job. Two independent skilled craftsman that I have used for smaller house projects and maintenace work have mentioned to me that the siding was done well and that quality materials were used.

Great transaction from initial estimate to job completion. Rico and his crew of 3 did a great job re-roofing our house, installing ridge vents and installing gutter leaf protection. The job was done in a timely manner with thorough clean up at the end of each day. All of the guys were courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly. Last year we decided to have our house sided and the roof replaced. We obtained several estimates and looked at different information. We were impressed with Mark when he came to the house to meet with us. What was most impressive was the install crew. I ve hired American Custom for a number of projects over the years including replacement windows, doors, custom window trim, and most recently a complete demolition, design and installation of a custom full bathroom in a tight space in our basement.

When you aren t in the business of construction, remodeling and restoration, it s difficult to know who you can trust. From the top down, every member of the staff at American Custom I ve had the pleasure to interact with has been friendly, easy to talk to, professional and helpful. They always quickly determine my level of understanding of the project and talk to me at my level. I ve never felt anyone was talking over my head, and have never felt anyone was talking down to me. It s a great skill and difficult to find!

Another thing about American I like so much is I ve never felt pressured to purchase a particular product or package . They have always been up front with me, explaining the pros and cons of my choices, are eager for my input, and always explain step-by-step how the project will be completed.

Most importantly, when presented with a written estimate, everything is described in detail, along with the costs. If there are any potential hidden obstacles that may result in additional work being necessary, they are discussed up front, and I ve always had the opportunity to comfortably clarify any questions I might have before I sign a contract.

Please note: If your only consideration for your project is price, American Custom may not make it onto your short list. But don t judge them on cost alone. I have found their prices to often be higher than many other contractor s bids. However, I will also tell you this. I ve made the choice to have a few projects done by other contractors because they were less expensive. There is simply no comparison! With American Custom, you truly get what you pay for. The quality of work, the attention to detail and the finished product is worth every single penny!

In summary, I m not easy to please. But after working with American Custom, it would be extremely difficult for me to justify choosing another contractor over American Custom for any future project at my home. They re simply the best at what they do!

American Custom Exteriors rebuilt our garage, which had been crushed by a tree; their workmanship was excellent and they brought great customer service. We would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

I selected American Custom to install 17 Sunrise Premium Vanguard vinyl slider windows in my home in early 2018 after an extensive replacement window learning process and visiting with 4 competing "quality" window vendors. I made my decision based on the superior quality and features of the product, the reputation of the manufacturer and American Custom, the high probability of an outstanding installation job, the best warranty available, and a cost that was comparable or favorable to all other vinyl windows. I am extremely pleased with the windows and the craftsmanship of the installation team. When spending thousands of dollars it was reassuring to know that the windows were installed properly and that American Custom will provide any warranty service in the future. I have also been delighted with the ability of the windows to reflect radiant energy and provide a thermal barrier from direct sunlight. This results in a cooler second floor and less air conditioning load. The past 3 days at 95 degrees proved it. I did my "homework" when choosing replacement windows and am extremely pleased I selected the premium Sunrise product and American Custom.

American Custom Exteriors is characterized best as professional, personable, accommodating, and very receptive to customer needs. From start to finish, the new siding was completed quickly and efficiently despite the frigid cold outside in December and January. The finish product is amazingly beautiful as well as functional. I thought about changing the front and back doors, including the garage door and the choices were consistent with the entire scheme, resulting in a spectacular effect. I highly recommend them without any reservations!

They did a complete roof with tear off. Kevin M was the project estimator. He was very professional. He gave us a good price and was there every step of the way. Dereck and the rest of the crew were very attentive. They kept working until they were done. They worked very good together. It appeared everyone knew exactly what they had to do and they did.I would definitely suggest American Custom to friends and family.

We are so glad we chose American Custom to do our remodeling project. Everyone we dealt with was fantastic. Steve kept us informed and did a great job coordinating all the different aspects of the job. All the workers were great. They were all prompt, neat, professional and they did a great job cleaning up every day. Our 3 season room came out great!

I was pleased with every aspect of this job (Roof, Insulation, Venting,Gutters) and everyone I came in contact with. I felt the salesman (Steve G.) was acting in the role of a knowledgeable consultant and thoroughly documented all work to be performed. The scheduling office (Kyle M) constantly kept me informed of when crews would arrive and immediately notify me if any changes were made due to weather or any other issue. The roofing led by Cruz was fantastic. They worked in adverse freezing winter conditions with great spirits and enthusiasm. They were a polite, professional well oiled machine that did the worked and thoroughly cleaned by property when done. Although I can't remember everyone's names I can say the same good things about the siding and gutter crew. There was some minor drywall damage that occurred during sky light installation and American immediately sent a great young guy (Dylan) to repair and paint the damaged area. I am sure you will find contractors with lower estimates, I felt this was a job that would last a lifetime and having the confidence that it would be done right the first time with no surprises was the right decision. I would be glad to recommend American to anyone.
