I took my nephew (6y.o) to the tree festival and he had a blast looking at all the trees, seeimg Santa and went to the shops and bakery. At the end of the day he said it was the best day ever!

This is a lovely place, and great to stroll down the road with my family. However, some buildings were not easily wheelchair/stroller accessible, making it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. The restaurants and the ground-level stores were great, though!

A must-stop-by-attraction. Luxurious textiles (I purchased a queen blanket-soooo soft and easy care and great quality) and amazing wood work. The furniture is gorgeous. I would love to het a hutch on hutch here. They will male to order and have the best wood selection. Go and see the furniture....even if you aren't buying. It is really nice. And have some lunch or dinner while there. We drove through on a 4th of July trip across the country. The heritage is interesting and the mills too. Enjoy!

Quaint little historic town that has artisan shops and places to eat/drink. The old textile mill and furniture shops have unique and high quality goods, but maybe not at everyone's price point. Great for a half day trip.

Great food. The Rhonenburg is the best in town for the money. Furniture store is expensive but the woolen mill isn't. Great selection of cheeses and wines and the meat market is awesome.

We were very disappointed. It was nothing like we expected. I expected to walk down the main street and see artisans working at their crafts. No such thing. The museum had nothing but books out on display. We went to the bakery to find that it was closed because a tour group had stopped and bought everything. In the woodmaking factory, everything is very expensive. A wooden spoon was $40. Really?

Arrived in Amana at 10am on a Friday and hardly anything was open. We stopped by the visitors center and asked about the hours and the answer we got was "Most of them should be open now. If they're not, they will be soon. Or they may open later. Or not at all."
After spending a good amount of time browsing the General Store (the Christmas area is AWESOME) we came out to find most everything open except the fudge store. (It opened later in the afternoon and I did go in, but wasn't terribly impressed. No one acknowledged my presence even though I was the only customer, so I left.)
We spent the entire afternoon going from store to store and had a wonderful time tasting and shopping. Every other store was very hospitable, glad to see us and eager to answer questions and help. Loved the experience. Will have to go back again!

The Amana Colonies Popcorn and Sweet Shop has reopened with a new owner. It is now a family run business. They're making changes and updating the place every week it seems. This weekend they had fun popcorn flavors for Halloween such as Witches Brew. Stephen, the owner, developed a yummy Pumpkin Pie flavor that is light and fresh... not overloaded with spices...

Brought kids to show them. They felt it was commercialized. We did some shopping. Enjoyed a wonderful meal at Ox Yoke Inn and got fudge and coffee. Everyone enjoyed and had a good time.

There is nothing to do in this small series of towns. The place is rundown. While it is a historic place, the lack of maintenance has reached levels that aren't kitchy. There are a few restaurants, gift shops, and wineries. All are underwhelming. Most of the workers are not friendly and lack a sense of humor.
