Excellent German food and atmosphere! Beer selection was great. Food was awesome.
Excellent German food and atmosphere! Beer selection was great. Food was awesome.
Excellent german food, and friendly staff. The experience was well worth the drive from San Antonio.
Nice, small restaurant, amazing food, wonderful wait staff!
While visiting the NB area I was checking some online restaurant reviews. I ran across this place but the owner's responses to negative reviews reminded me of the soup Nazi. I decided to steer wide of this place. I would never go somewhere with such a rude owner. With so many places to eat in the area, why would anyone? (I would have given a negative score if one was available - no stars for you!)
The shnieztle is delicious. Great German beer selection,as well.
I was very impressed with the food, the staff, the music, the cleanliness of the facility. I was most impressed by the apple strudel for desert. Very good will reccomend
Delicious, quaint and authentic German food (Austria and Switzerland too) with friendly staff.
Was well worth the 4 hour drive !! The wait staff were very sweet, The food Amazing !
Absolutely delightful and quaint atmosphere. Fabulous food. Although it was a 45-minute drive from San Antonio I'm going to come back regularly.
Beautiful restaurant! Great food! Great staff! Would recommend everyone eat here!
Been here twice, and Loved it! There's even a live accordion player that takes requests too, though he mostly sings in German. Highly suggest the brie cheese, pumpernickel bread and ham appetizer!
Great little place, some outside seating, great non domestic beer menu and delicious German food. Absolutelty great place to be at. Service was also excellent, overall great experience.
AMAZING! Food was filling and authentic (along with the authentic atmosphere) our server Jacob delivered the best service as well! Highly recommend
We love eating here. Service is awesome and
Everyone is so friendly. The food is delicious.
German food at its finest. Upscale fine dining.
This place has the best German food I've ever tasted!
1 hour before they close... no call, no reservation, no eat.
My favorite spot for delicious German food. One of the best spots in the area. I had a cousin come into town and asked me to take him back here. Kinda of like a cafe in Phoenix that I enjoyed.
Incredible, authentic German food - they even had an unbelievable, young accordion player there.
We called ahead to check if we could bring our furry friend. They were super sweet. They brought her a bowl of water and even cooked her a sausage that they brought out with our drinks. The food was absolutely amazing, they have a great selection of beer and wine. You have to try to fried brie. The bread was so fresh. Live music performer, perfect atmosphere, cute outdoor seating area. We will visit again then next time we are in town!
Food was ok. Service was terrible. Prices weren't awful, but higher than the food called for.
Brought back memories of previous trips to Germany!
Historic building with comfortable tables. Great food and good service.
Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Loved the place. Excited to return.
Nice atmosphere and friendly hosts but food wasn't as good as other reviews stated and up to par for true German food.
Nice spot for german food. The service was very kind and attentive. Bring your hunger - portions are generous.
Cute little restaurant. All the food was very good and the service was friendly and attentive.
Good food and waitresses knew what they were serving. Kinda tucked back from the street, so look for the sign.
They had grrat, fresh tasty good. Wonderful atmosphere. We were able to do a walk in which evidently is not the norm for a Saturday night. Call for reservations.
Great German food. I loved their pork schnitzel and potato salad. Their soup of the day was garlic and it was fabulous too!
The food was good at a fair price... I lived in Germany and eating here gives you a taste of Germany. The music and cozy atmosphere make it a great place to spend time with loved ones or grab brunch. The beer is imported from Europe so a bit pricey but worth it.
Atmosphere: excellent
Food: excellent
Server: excellent
This is such a nice, quaint cottage with a really nice restaurant inside. Delicious food in an attractive place --sit back and enjoy the company of your friends while earing your meal in a casual fine dining setting. They're only gotten better since they opened several years ago. I have been here several times, and I will eat here again.
Visited for lunch today. We had a mixed review of our menu choices. Four people and half of us liked our lunch. My brother and sis in law said their schnitzel sandwich and rueben were good. My husband ordered the bratwurst sandwich. They literally bring out a sausage in between two pieces of bread. Really? How are you supposed to eat that? And the potato salad was the warm kind with way too many onions. I have gluten issues so I ordered the salad with grilled chicken. Ugh. Flavorless all around. Dressing was bland and the chicken was bland. On a bright note the split peas soup was terrific. Also my brother ordered the alpine dessert and it was very good. Just be careful whatcha order and you should be good.
Delicious! Baked brie and soup is what I enjoyed. Satisfied completely.
Authentic, home style German food. Grandmother's kitchen atmosphere and excellent service for a reasonable price.
Very good food. I wish I would have taken pictures. The sauerkraut soup was very delicious. The alpine special dessert was to die for. A little pricy but totally worth it.
I had the Jager Schnitzel with German potatoe salad and a dumpling in gravy. The start to the meal was awesome. It was the Soup of The Day "Garlic Soup in a cream base". I have eaten at a few different German restaurants but hands down this is the best. The authenticity and quality were phenomenal.Just alone the Garlic Soup sounds simple but it was like something I had never tasted before. I travel from San Antonio twice a month to try new dishes and I have yet to be dissatisfied. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Very nice upscale restaurant based in a small 160 year old Historic house in downtown New Braunfels. Must make reservations on the weekend. Best German food in Texas... Pork Jager Schnitzel, Pork Cordon Bleu Schnitzel, red cabbage, german More
Been there many times lately. A pleasure every time. Food, service, general ambiance, all pleasant and relaxing. Beer choices ample. A little pricey, not too much and worthy.
Our first time but definitely not our last. It was amazing
The food and beer was excellent, especially the cream of asparagus soup. The ambiance was great, and everyone was patient with our 4 kids under 5. Only downside was being sat close to the door, so it got pretty warm, but I believe we were sat there due to the kids so no points taken away. Definitely would love to eat there again, and wound highly recommend to anyone.
The food is sub-par for German food especially for the price. An excellent beer menu saves a lower rating. The presentation is more a kin to cafeteria food one would find in Germany and seasoned improperly. The sauerkraut is from a Jar and the main courses are not made to order, rather re-heated (except the Schnitzel which was fine). Overall a disappointing experience from an area of Texas which is supposed to have great German heritage.
This is hands-down the best German restaurant in New Braunfels. Dishes are accompanied by red cabbage, and the choice of spaetzle or potato dumpling. Dinner includes salad or homemade soup. Everything is delicious and good selection of German beers.
This is by far probably the best German food I have ever eaten. I am not a big German food eater either...this place opened my eyes. Beautiful, quaint restaurant in historic building. Clap, Calp, Calp!!!!!!
The food was good. It did not impress by a long shot, but smiles were observed. Nice German wine and beer list. Overall a nice sit down. Just on the expensive side though.
Red cabbage side dish was best I've had. There is a secret ingredient that makes the cabbage flavor bloom! Sauerbraten was smooth, not bitter, and the potatoes dumplings rivaled the delicately crisp potatoes balls I had in my childhood. Great food, terrific ambience - thumbs up all around!
Everything was excellent for service and food. The atmosphere is nice and down to earth but with a rustic elegance not many places have. Certainly not the larger commercial German restaurants around.
Delicious! Make sure to make reservations before going. Made me want to go back to Germany.
Great food in a historic setting. My favorite place to eat in New Braunfels!
Relaxing atmosphere. No rush feeling to eat and go. Which allowed me to truly enjoy my delicious meal.
We enjoyed the food at Apine Haus Restaurant, lots of good flavor and that s why we gave them four stars. The drawback was parking was difficult as most spots around the parking lot were reserved for other businesses. Another really off-putting thing is the floor was being swept while we were there for lunch and worst of all, the waitress sweeping used the broom to sweep some paper, etc. off the tabletop across from us.
Perfectly prepared meals. Reminiscent of my years stationed in Germany, Ser gut!
Really great German food. Very friendly staff and a huge German beer selection.
Absolutely great experience! It was our first time here and will definitely make the drive down from Georgetown to eat here again! Great selection of food and drinks!
Love that place. As a german living in Texas now for more than 2 years I can say it felt a little bit like home! Thanks Alpine Haus!
AUTHENTIC German food in the Hill Country. As good as it gets
Lovely ambience, huge (good food!) portions, great wine list, great service. The strolling accordion player was outstanding, not loud at all, magical experience !
Best best best restaurant best food the most quaint, it's in a little white house that was built in the year 1850, it is a historical home turned into a restaurant...... the staff that they've hired are completely clueless I need desperately desperately need to train them but we were able to deal with (I believe he was the manager owner) and he was fantastic but he needs to stop everything and train his "teenage employees"..... thank God somebody at our table when we dining had been to Germany for a month and then they were also fluent in German , so our time their went flawlessly and we all ordered through the knowledge of the person at our table that was very "well versed" but if it wasn't for her being at our table it wouldn't have gone so smoothly..... I never knew German food could be so delicious we started with the fried mushrooms there are really excellent and one order was pretty much enough for four people we ordered the main dishes two of us got pork and then the others ordered varied dishes along with their delicious beer, I'm so impressed that when I go back to Texas I've got to go to this restaurant again it was one of my favorite restaurants that I've ever been to .....so cute and quaint very comfortable and the food is incredibly perfect it's just the wait staff that is in dire need to be trained on everything the menu is about because the owner and the manager don't really realize how many questions get asked of these young girls and they just don't have any answers or they reply with these silly little phrases because they're clueless about the menu and they are clueless about the food .....so if you have any questions about the menu I suggest asking for the manager or owner to answer your questions because the wait staff again they're "super Clueless"
This is the venue for authentic German cuisine. Live music with accordion player who played waltzes and polkas. Split pea soup was so delicious I had two servings. Goulash was scrumptious! Indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of German beer and wine. Enjoy.
So good. Hand crafted food. Good service. Quaint.
Nice spot, good for a fancy date. Not foot for kids.
Best place to eat in the world! The cordon blue schnitzel is the best food in the world, the service is awsome but it is hard to find it is pushed back from the road but it is worth it to find
I have been telling everyone about this restaurant since eating there!! If you want the perfect date night look no further. Quaint dining, high quality Bavarian dishes, exceptional service, and very reasonable prices set in a house built in 1850. Do not leave without ordering the Fried Brie!!! In still dreaming about it!
Very good fare, the rye they served with the meal was an excellent pairing and Rinder Rouladen was tender and perfectly prepared. Outside seating was a nice atmosphere, however the service was extremely slow. We would go long periods between seeing the waitstaff and had to get mwnues from another table because they spent so long bringing any out to us.
Nice atmosphere to share a meal with my wife or family. The food was excellent, and the bier and wine selection is very good.
Was wanting to have my birthday dinner here so I called the day before. I called looking to see if I can/need to make a reservation for my birthday dinner for the following day. I was told there was no need for a reservation and that they would not be that busy. I arrive at the restaurant and have to wait for someone to finally assist us. I am soon after asked if I had made a reservation I answered no but I called about it yesterday. I am then told that sorry but they won't be accepting walk in since they are too busy, even though I had called trying to make a reservation the day prior, they said too bad and theres nothing they could/would do.
The German food was excellent. Their soup of the day was creamy garlic. It was very good. I had the Jager Schnitzel with Spatzle and it was also excellent. It is a small restaurant with a lot of class.
Intimate dining in small rooms, the atmosphere was quiet. Food was decent, but nowhere near worth the wait. We came on a Wednesday evening and had the *worst* waitress ever! We were seated under the clock, which made it easy to keep track of the time... After 45 minutes, we had gotten one beer but nothing else. It took well over 2 hours to receive a sausage appetizer and finally our dinner.
We had to try and wrangle the waitress into helping us at all (which other tables in the room also had complaints with). We were SO ready to get out of the place after so long (the horrible excuse for the insane wait given by the waitress was that they evidently were making to-go orders over those for dining patrons), we hastily finished dinner and weren't charged for beer or the appetizer on the bill so I just paid it and we were able to breathe a sigh of relief upon getting out of there. Completely inexcusable dining experience, even for a small independent place... The owner should be ashamed!
