This is an amazing place with efficient caring staff. It should be rated 5/5. From the second we entered A and E to being discharged 5 days later I can only say the service, nursing and doctor standard of care, attention to detail, treatment and of course doctor diagnosis and necessary information was all second to none. Absolutely amazing. Thank you - it was a privilege to have been a patient there. Amazing.

In July 2017 I was taken to Alfred Hospital Emergency due to an MRSA infection which caused major breathing problems that evening. I underwent a tracheostomy procedure and another surgical procedure on the throat area that evening. Pre operation the doctors were very caring and explained to me clearly what needed to happen. During the operation the doctors were extremely caring and supportive, they guided me verbally which made the procedure feel less daunting. Post operation, I was provided with the highest possible care from all the nurses and doctors during my 9 day stay in hospital. In February 2018, my father underwent a jaw surgery has was kept overnight in the hospital. He too received exceptional care from all the doctors and nurses. Our family came after hours to see him, and according to rules, we weren't allowed in, however, the nurses gave us 10 minutes to see him. Overall I have zero complaints from the hospital and only positive things to say about it.

I was in a car accident and came here after I started developing pains and nausea. I felt silly coming in after I had originally been okay but the staff were so lovely. They did absolutely everything to make me feel comfortable and at ease.

I can't praise them enough for what they did and how lovely everyone was.

EVERYONE HERE DESERVES A RAISE!!!

EVERYONE HERE DESERVES A RAISE!!!

Ive had the misfortune of needing to attend the emergency room quite a few times, both for myself and for friends - but the fact that Ive had to go aside, Ive never had a bad experience - I fully admire everyone from the moment Ive walked in to the moment i have left - I'm sorry you guys put up with some real horror stories, from the fake whingers that are on the ground crying, screaming yet 2 minutes later are having a smoke out the front like they are at their local, through to the trauma you must see and care for - You are all Heroes and i hope you all receive the care and attention that you provide by your employers and that government will start treating you like the assets to Victoria that you are.

Been to emergency 3 times, mostly excellent staff. Their chronic fatigue clinic doctors are also excellent although I've had issues with its admin staff not getting appointment times correct, sending letters incorrectly saying you've been a no-show, etc.

This review is about the Caulfied rehab unit, where my husband spent a few days, following a stroke.
This is the least maintained section of the hospital which is a shame as the staff and patients deserve a well maintained unit. However the treatment my husband received and the care not to mention genuine concern was incredible and coming from the UK, we were very touched by the care from the staff over the Xmas period. We will never forget the kindness shown and I am delighted to say that after returning home, the intensive physiotherapy for six weeks, recommended by Caulfield staff has given my husband back the use of his left side and although there will always be a little weakness, it's hardly noticeable. Thank you so much for your care, everyone was fantastic!

After spending 4 days in and out at the Sandringham hospital who had trouble diagnosing my issue, within 45 minutes of meeting the Urology team at the Alfred I was given a diagnosis and same day surgery with my own private room overlooking the city. Every single staff member I came across being the doctors, nurses and even the people wheeling me to my room post surgery were friendly, welcoming and reassuring! Thank you all for your fabulous work!

I've had some horrible hospital visits in my time, so I was REALLY grateful for the amazing treatment I had while I stayed at the Alfred this week and got my appendix removed. Every single one of the nurses, doctors, surgeons, pharmacists and medical staff were super friendly, patient, caring, nice and professional. It was the most pleasant hospital trip I've had, especially given how crook I was when I arrived. Thank you

DO NOT HAVE EYE SURGERY AT THE ALFRED HOSPITAL BEC...

DO NOT HAVE EYE SURGERY AT THE ALFRED HOSPITAL BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT THE WELFARE OF PATIENTS. I GIVE THEM ZERO STARS. I am in my 70s and on the age pension. I had uncomplicated cataract surgery on my right eye on 18 May 2017, and for the week after my surgery my eyesight was great in both day and night-time as the cataracts in my left eye were not too bad. Then I went for a post-op appointment on 25 May where eye test showed I had 6/12 vision in both eyes and still had good reading vision with my left eye. Immediately the test were finished, the orthoptist grabbed a bottle of eye drops and put a big splash in both my eyes without any warning and without giving me a reason for doing it. The next day the distance vision in my left unoperated eye had drastically reduced and when it got dark all bright lights were dazzling me and all bright objects were a blur, I saw streaks of light and halos everywhere and could not read any illuminated signs as they were too blurred. My vision of the night sky is completely ruined by distortions. If I had a car, I would not be able to drive at night. Both of my eyes were affected by this so it was very obviously caused by the dilating eye drops. 8 months later this has not improved but the hospital is refusing to acknowledge that my problem was caused by the careless and unnecessary use of dilating eye drops, and I am suffering severe depression and anxiety because my eye sight means everything to me.

I have recently seen the Head of Opthalmology, Anthony Hall, and he refused to answer when I asked him why the dilating eye drops were splashed into both my eyes, and refused to talk about the serious night vision problems I am still experiencing. He then discharged me from the hospital because I want my eye problems fixed before I have more cataract surgery. This hospital very obviously could not care less about the welfare of patients and I would advise anyone needing cataract surgery, DO NOT HAVE EYE SURGERY AT THE ALFRED HOSPITAL BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT PATIENTS' WELFARE.

My Daughter (Tegan Kennett 23at the time) was admitted to the psych ward at the Alifred suffering with BPD. She rang me distressed at 3 o'clock in the morning due to not coping. While I stayed on my mobile with her I rang the pschyc ward on my house phone. I spoke to a staff member to let them know Tegan was distressed. It distressed me that she was distressed. I politely asked for them to go talk to her and calm her. I hung up and waited for the staff member to go and help Tegan whike still with Tegan on my mobile. Tegan was sitting in the dark with me on here mobile. I then heard the staff member approach Tegan and was aggressive towards her. I was listening the whole time and i was so distressed. The staff member took Tegan's phone off her all the while verbally attacking her. I rang the psych ward again and the phone was not answered. Then another incident and worst incident was Tegan was attacked again whilst on the phone to me by another staff member. This time she was physically attacked. A code grey was called on Tegan, with six staff and security (subdued Tegan with pressure points. Tegan whom was approximately 48 kgs at the time). They also illegally made her an involuntary patient sedated her and placed her in a padded cell. The next day I learnt this. When I attended the next morning the Psychiatrist explained what had happened to Tegan. Tegan was covered in bruises and extremely distressed. The Psychiatrist apologised and said a full investigation would happen and they would let me know the outcome of the staff involved. To this day I've heard nothing. Tegan has since passed away. Killing herself. Tegan was lucky because she had private health insurance and git out if the public system. Going into private from the public was like night and day. Private psych hospital treated with Tegan with respect. She had a voice. She was treated like a criminal in the public psych wards. To this day 5 years later it still haunts me.

I got my gallbladder removed here. The doctors couldn't have done it better. The anesthetists were fantastic, the nurses were on the whole caring and very professional. A special thanks to Sinead the nurse who is an angel. The Alfred hospital is Australia's best, if not the best in the world. A BIG thankyou to one and all. P.s. The food is not bad.

i am on the wait list for 1 year and just had my nasal surgery done a few days ago. i wish to say thank you to all doctors and nurses who looked after me when i stayed in PPU overnight. They were friendly and professional.

Place seems barbaric to me. Nurses can't even be bothered to hook up the ecg tags so I have to do it myself despite being very sick. Spoken to in a condescending manner by many of the nurses too. When you click the assistance button in the emergency department nobody comes. The doctors and nurses barely check up on you. I wasn't hooked to an ecg at the start but was left alone for an hour with my eyes closed. For all they knew I could of been dead and they didn't even check up on me. There's something seriously wrong with this hospital and the public health system in Australia in general. Would rate 0/5 if I could

I am in Alfred Hospital being looked after by Dr c...

I am in Alfred Hospital being looked after by Dr chan as i had a fall. First decision made was placing rods to my back. Although it was the best thing to do for my condition. However after a long good review and meeting with other great doctors. He has come to a conclusion that the operation for me having rods was too risky instead i am going to be given a back brace. This is why there are great doctors like him around. Plus Dr Chan was going to operate on my back personally not many do that. I knew i was safe
I am so glad great doctors continue to work at Alfred Hospital. Even through covid-19 he was going to operate. To save my discs to slip forward and stopping me from being paralyzed..I just want to send a big thank you To Dr Chan and his team. I must say was very concerned about the operation due to my illness age and footdrop.I knew it was major and that i cluld not cope with rods and the pain that goes with it. I was very concerned about my recuperating time. The staff at Sandringham Hospital whom i was first taken to as an emergency Had great Doctors Nurses and even students were awesome and experienced.I was looked after like a queen. I was then transferred to Alfred the staff here is excellent they made sure i was comfortable they were awesome 24 hours caring for me. As i had to lie flat was not allowed to get up for anything. I am still here at Alfred hospital..
To all of you at both hospitals that had anything to do on my progress recovery I appreciate it and relieved at the same time.Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am so happy as wait for my back brace and a new foot drop AFO. One nurse I must thank alot is Nurse Rennay who put up with my tears trying to make me understand the consequences of getting up her continuous checking up on me being very patient with my bed pan use. Hats off to all the night nurses as well All the other nurses who rolled me over. The students are so vibrant, lovely and caring...If it wasn't for the qualified experienced nurses they would have no experience they are so lucky to learn from the best.
This is why i donate to Alfred hospital and anything to do with science.
However there is new technology out there that i saw on you tube surgeons can use this technique instead of screw and rods. Hopefully the doctors professors MR. all try to bring that technology soon. All the doctors probably know about it anyway
A Big Thank You to all of you.
I am so happy with eveything

A hospital that is more concerned about making huge amounts of money, rather than taking care of their patients. My girlfriend, who's an overseas student and struggles just to get by, has to pay 4 times as much after they figured out she was an overseas student. I don't know what's going on here, but this just feels wrong..

My partner and I have had a terrible experience at The Alfred.
1. There were too many people involved in the injuries, one nurse would say one thing, another nurse would say anything. No one knew what was going on
2. In emergency they check on you all the time. In the ward, you press the nurse button and no one comes for over 40 minutes!!!
3. When we were discharged, we got no paper work. They said they would send it all in the mail. Only thing we received in the mail was an incorrect medical certificate with the wrong details (not his name) and a CD of the CT Scan. We then call them to send out the correct medical certificate and they didn't believe the wrong one was given until we faxed it through. Then the nurse said she would fax the correct one through and never got it until we asked a 2nd time.
4. Never got the schedule in the mail. Called up on a Monday to find out what is going on. They basically said they sent the schedule in the mail (never received). They basically didn't believe that we didn't receive it. When we asked when his next appointment was they told him tomorrow. We got 1 day notice. Then when we went in he got told he had to be there the following day as well.

When we got to the appointments, the wait was over 2 hours and none of the nurses knew what was going on. They told us to go to one section who told us to go to another.

Overall terrible customer service!!!!!

Last week I was admitted to the ER Dept after work with acute gastritis and underlying conditions. I waited for a while before I was attended by the nurses and doctors. They were efficient and took the matters seriously when I told them I had the same re-occurring problem every month. Straight away they took blood tests, urine test, X-rays, ultrasound and continuous monitoring throughout the night till the next morning at the short stay unit.

Hospital is well maintained, clean and staffs were efficient & professional.
As a public hospital in the city, I am impressed with it. I recommend people to use Alfred Hospital if you are in urgent need of medical attention.

As I am not citizen in AU I had to pay $580,00 to talk with a doctor. Firstly, I believe that the person who attended me was not a doctor, may was a nurse or someone who is still studying medicine.
Secondly, the doctor said that I had a virose and I should keep taking the same medicine that I was taking 3 days before. She didn t give me ANY prescription and advices (which kind of a doctor is that)?

When I said that I wanted changed my medicine and try another one because was not working for me ..she was a bit angry.

The MINIMUM that a doctor must to do is provide a prescription with the names of medicines that we have to take....the service was ridiculous!

I would like to thank every single staff member I came into contact with. I was so impressed with the level or care I received, the professionalism of everybody and was taken away by how caring and friendly all of the staff members were.
I was operated on Sunday at 2pm and released on Monday around 11am. The entire process was seamless, I can't fault anything. The system worked so well in my instance and I thank you all so very much for making my short stay so comfortable. Keep up the great work team.
Forever grateful
