Like all Alamo Drafthouse locations in Austin, this was has it's charm. The one thing you can count on if you go to a later show is the crowd right outside when you exit. Welcome To Sixth Street. :)

We are from out of town and only in Austin for the weekend. We got a little lost, and didn't arrive to the theater until 10:20 (our movie started at 10:00). Upon arrival we were informed that policy states they cannot let us into the theater after 15 minutes after the show starts. We had to leave disappointed without getting to see our show. If you are going to deny admission to ticketholders at a certain point, you need to clearly state this at the time of purchase. If you go to other movie theaters and arrive late, you simply miss that much of the show. If you go see a Broadway show in New York or other city and arrive late, you may have to wait until the end of an opening number, but still get to go in late and simply miss that much of the show. It is not industry practice completely deny admission and it is terrible customer service. We were treated like idiots for arriving 20 minutes late and expecting to go into the show. Will definitely not be going back.
If there's any Alamo Drafthouse you want to go to on a date night, its this one. The old fashion look and feel to it is really memorizing. While their selection of movies playing is limited, there is always something that you want to watch. They show sing-a-longs to blockbuster movies to Harry Potter marathons.
The Alamo Drafthouse Ritz location is so nice! It really has an old feel to it but of course VIP style. The food is always great and the people that work there are awesome. I went to a speaker series there where the founder/owner of Alamo Drafthouse told the story of how it came to be and its truly an amazing story!
I really love how you can eat and drink beer while enjoying a great movie. they also have old movies every so often laid back comfortable chairs this wold be a good place for a first date.
I loved the experience of ordering the food to the special shows this place show. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. If you like caramelized onion on the burger, try the fancy pants burger . It's amazing!
Love the Drafthouse! Great food, really fun atmosphere and great service!
The Ritz location has some of the best events out of the Austin Drafthouse locations. Master Pancake, movie quote-alongs that spill out onto 6th street, etc.
Ritz location gets one star knocked off because the seats aren't quite as comfortable or easy to get to, but they are working with less space here.
Not my favorite Drafthouse to visit. If you ignore that it's on 6th Street and ignore that it's older than dirt, is a perfectly fine Drafthouse. Theater 1 is huge and actually a good movie experience but in the older style of Drafthouse. The table runs the length of the entire row, so you either have to climb under or ask everyone to excuse you. It is stadium seating, so you won't have somebody's head in front of you. They do allow you to pre swipe a credit card which is nicer than lakeline. The one nice thing about the Ritz is that is like taking a step back 50 years, but you still have the modern Drafthouse movie watching experience.
I've been wanting to come to the original Alamo for awhile and I wasn't disappointed at all. My first experience with Alamo was in Houston and the Austin location is just as good. Our waiter Alex was courteous, attentive, and timely in getting food and drinks to us and the movie was great. The theatre itself has lots of character as well.
Quite honestly this is the best movie watching experience you can have in a theater. With good food, fun pre-movie videos, and nice waiters you should have an excellent time
Quaintly situated and decorated. Love the signage outside and the antique feel of the theatre. Went to a sing-along recently and they had great dance space to really enjoy the experience. The staff was fun and welcoming. They offer a good variety of food.
All the perks of the Alamo Drafthouse in a historic theater in the middle of dirty sixth street. Smaller than the south Lamar location, but same extensive menu of food and drinks.
Just saw the master in 70mm that's not something you can say about many other theaters. They know how to create a great environment to watch a film in.
Staff didnt seem to be on the same page. It was already 7 after the 30 minute time frame before showing and I and another patron were told the theater wasnt ready yet, but the employees in the lobby said it was. Employee in the theater said it wasn't. Other than that the food was great as well as the service. I give the royale with cheeseburger an 8.5 outta 10. Triple choc milkshake is amazing!! Bladerunner 2049 was awesome but what amazes me was the sound quality in the theater was no joke.
Small retro theaters makes for a more communal and fun movie going experience. Latest Hollywood movies plus lots of fun cult classics makes this a top destination for a night out. Full menu and special drinks also great.
Awesome experience! The dining service doesn't intervene with the movie due the unique floor plan of their theaters. The food was good, though their menu has a lot of messy dishes that could prove difficult to eat in the dark. I especially enjoyed the custom pre-movie entertainment; a way better movie intro than a barrage of trailers!
This place rocks. With fewer theaters than other Alamo locations, the Ritz makes up for it by having lots of great performances and special movie screenings. it's also the best (only, I think) place to watch a movie downtown.
Only two screens at this cineplex, but what a treat to be able to see a movie right downtown. They really can pick some great flicks to screen, too. Same great food and beverages as any ADH.
Every time I go to another theatre, I'm reminded why I always go back to the Alamo Drafthouse.
It's the little things. The attention to detail. The fact that they actually care about your movie watching experience. The specials and the productions they do just for the movie lovers.
Look, if you want to text your friends in the theater or bring your disruptive kids or submit your own commentary, save yourself the cost of the ticket, because you're just going to be walked out. You can call it elitist, or you can call it horrible customer service or whatever you want -- there are dozens of theaters all over town that will be more than happy to take your money and let you be as disruptive as you want. And good for them! But it's not where I want to see a movie.
I want to see a movie where the audience is there to see the movie. Where they care about the movie and the experience of going to see a movie. Where the staff cares as much as everyone in the theater. Where the film is always in good condition with no scratches, lines, dust, or any other distractions. Where the sound isn't so loud I get a headache nor so low I can't hear the dialog. Where the projectors are never run at half wattage to save electricity and the theaters aren't clean because the staff is overworked. None of that ever happens at the Alamo Drafthouse.
On top of it, you can get real food and real drink (like a glass of beer, and I'm not talking about no paper cup, I'm talking about a glass of beer). Granted, the selection isn't what you'll find at a place like the Gingerman, but it's still quite good!
The best drafthouse, and drafthouse is the best theater I ve ever been to. Their level of service is just unparalleled, and their commitment to a great movie experience is second to none. Their app, especially, is wonderful. This drafthouse is more intimate - only a few screens - but always offers a great experience.
