Every time I go to another theatre, I'm reminded why I always go back to the Alamo Drafthouse.
It's the little things. The attention to detail. The fact that they actually care about your movie watching experience. The specials and the productions they do just for the movie lovers.
Look, if you want to text your friends in the theater or bring your disruptive kids or submit your own commentary, save yourself the cost of the ticket, because you're just going to be walked out. You can call it elitist, or you can call it horrible customer service or whatever you want -- there are dozens of theaters all over town that will be more than happy to take your money and let you be as disruptive as you want. And good for them! But it's not where I want to see a movie.
I want to see a movie where the audience is there to see the movie. Where they care about the movie and the experience of going to see a movie. Where the staff cares as much as everyone in the theater. Where the film is always in good condition with no scratches, lines, dust, or any other distractions. Where the sound isn't so loud I get a headache nor so low I can't hear the dialog. Where the projectors are never run at half wattage to save electricity and the theaters aren't clean because the staff is overworked. None of that ever happens at the Alamo Drafthouse.
On top of it, you can get real food and real drink (like a glass of beer, and I'm not talking about no paper cup, I'm talking about a glass of beer). Granted, the selection isn't what you'll find at a place like the Gingerman, but it's still quite good!
