Shut this hospital down.

Where to start. I was brough to the ER by ambulance with upper respiratory systems and very low O2 levels. The medics in the ambulance were great. I was treated in the ER in a timely fashion and admitted to the hospital. The good part ends there I tested negative for covid, flu and rsv and was listed as unknown respiratory virus I was then put on a telemetry floor where I had a roommate that had just had gall bladder surgery. I asked why I was not put in isolation since they didn't know what virus I had and they just laughed it off and said it because I tested negative for covid. The room was so hot that I was sweating and thusly coughing all night. I asked repeatedly for the heat to be turned down but it was not done. Someone came in my room every 3 hours to check my vitals and would say they could hear me coughing down the hall yet Noone would turn down the heat or even bring me cough medicine. They said it was ordered every 4 hours prn so I had to ask for it, even though my room was right across from the nurses station and they could hear me coughing uncontrollably. I didn't know when the last time I had cough medicine was.
After 3 days of sweating and no shower I finally asked for one as they don't give you a towel and washcloth unless you request it. I finally got a shower and they finally changed the damp sweaty sheets I had laid on for 3 days.
The shared bathroom was disgusting and only got cleaned when I finally asked the lady who came in to get the trash what department she was with and what department was responsible for cleaning the bathroom. She said her department was and that she would clean it. The poop on the seat was finally cleaned off.
Obviously, you have to request toilet paper as well. When we were down to just a little bit left on 1 roll I asked for some when I woke up from a nap I found 1 roll of toilet paper on the sink. I had to replace it myself.
While the nurses were nice the hospital was understaffed and getting anything or being walked, which would have aided in my getting better, was like pulling teeth. The 2nd time I wanted to shower, 2 days later, I started telling the new nurse that came on that morning that I wanted to take a shower ťhat day. She said ok but that they were 2 aids short. By 3pm when my daughter came to visit I still had not received a towel and washcloth. She got them for me but was told I had to have someone come in and put plastic on my monitors and IV's before I could shower. Noone came. After another hour passed and I needed cleaned up we finally just disconnected the monitors and I got in the shower. Boy, did they come running then to admonish me for not waiting for them. I had been waiting since 7am and it was now 3pm.
I could go on but I will stop here. I personally believe this hospital should be closed down for cleanliness, or lack there of. It is clearly understaffed in nursing and nursing aids.
I am from WV and was appalled that a hospital of this kind was still operating. It was like going back to the 70's when I worked in hospitals. And they call us backwards. Never have I seen a hospital like this in WV.

I had a heart attack on Sunday, July 5, 2015 and was taken by ambulance to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. There are not enough words to describe how grateful I am for the care they provided me. From the doctor who greeted the ambulance at the ER to the nurse who walked with me as I was discharged, everyone demonstrated incredible care and professionalism in the delivery of my care. I want to say a special thanks to the cardiology team and the amazing staff in the MICCU. Thanks to all of them, and the many working behind the scenes who never interact with patients, for the great care.

I had to select a least one star to provide a review. In my opinion you don't deserve any stars. I learned my sister was at your emergency room. When I arrived she was lying there no cover. Her breathing heavy. She was was knocked out. She was not even aware that me and my other sister had entered the room. Fifteen minutes later an African American male enters the room. He did not brother to introduce himself. He asked if we were there to pick her up. I replied, "we had no idea what has transpired". He started calling off a list of drugs she had received. A number of test She received, which were all negative. He stated that he told her to call someone to pick her up. She was being discharged. I replied, "that she was knocked out and in no position to contact anyone". I asked if a list of the drugs she received would be listed in her discharge papers. He said no. She would have to request a copy of her medical if she wants to know what drugs she received. Keep in mind my sister is knocked out unable to function on her own. When he handed me the discharge papers I asked him you list the drugs she received. He was reluctanted to name them all. He said he would get a wheelchair for my sister and that I could sign the release papers. It was evident by even a lay person that she was in no position to sign anything. My sister had to you assist my sister to the bathroom and help her to dress. Trying to keep her from falling off the name side of the bed. I told my sister to watch her. I went to look for the African American male. I said to him where is the wheelchair. He replies, oh yea. I mentioned to him that I would sign the discharged papers only to release my sister sister and requested a copy. He did not give a damn about her condition. Who sends someone home half unconscious. Refusing to provide a list of medication provided and the time it was last administered. He finally shows up with the wheelchair ask me if I wanted to push the name wheelchair. I told him no. He could handle it. He pushes her to the front counter of the emergency room and leaves. Arrogancy at it finest. His job is caring for people. That would require a soul. He should work on a garbage truck. Since he has no idea about how to treat human beings. I will file a formal complaint.

Caution to all posting on here if it effects them and makes them look bad they pull your post. So as you see its really a transparency. You are below a 1 star when you BAN family from a patient because your staff didn't like to be called out n now they claim THREAT. Something that never took place. This is not a hospital years ago it was but the changeover in staff is bad.I still am waiting for the higher team of the Hospital to reachout to myself or my mother but till this day nothing my Dads money is good but the duties of doing an investigation is still not done!!! Where is the Administrator cause I'm still WAITING!!!!

This hospital is a mix of gold and bad staff.

This hospital is a mix of gold and bad staff.
Many of them appear rude and don't understand the pain a patient is going through .

They didn't take better measures post delivery to prevent infection due to stitches etc.... PLEASE AVOID GETTING YOUR BABY DELIVERED HERE.

My wife was under severe postpartum pain and they made us wait more than an hour citing there are no ER rooms available. So basically they don't care if your illness is threatening you or not.
Never expected this kind of treatment from a hospital which boasts of excellence.

They take care of you before you deliver a baby and once you deliver you don't matter much to them and they make you wait hours citing no ER rooms.

Being a veteran Google local guide what I suggest is please avoid this hospital So that you can concentrate on your peace of mind instead of getting frustrated with the hospital treatment.

I was admitted to Illinois Masonic Hospital April ...

I was admitted to Illinois Masonic Hospital April 24 while visiting my son who lives in Chicago as I was having an appendicitis attack. I live out of the state, but experienced excellent care while a patient at Illinois Masonic. I did experience a huge concern from my visit there. I had more cash than usual with me as I had just returned from a vacation to Florida. The cash was put in a safe and secure spot by an employee at the hospital. I did not have an exact count of the cash which was not returned to me upon my discharge. I immediately called the hospital within minutes of my discharge to let them know my cash was still at the hospital. When I was asked how much cash, I estimated the amount as I did not have an exact count of the cash I had when admitted. After numerous phone calls and letters on my part, the patient relations department finally sent me a letter stating that they had documented in their records that I had $121 in cash upon admission, which was a different amount than I estimated it to be, and since the amounts weren't the same, they could and would not reimburse me. I feel this is sad, that I wasn't reimbursed my cash upon discharge, nor was I reimbursed my cash after repeated efforts on my part to do so. My cash is somewhere at the hospital or in someone 's pocket, but was never returned to me, even though there is documentation of my having cash upon admission. If this amount was documented, how simple it would be to also note that there was no documentation of me having received my cash upon discharge
. Horrible patient relations! I would advise anyone who stays there to be VERY CAREFUL AND NOT TRUST ANY ONE there. My worst experience ever as a patient at a hospital! HORRIBLE PATIENT RELATIONS!

If you re having surgery here, read ALL of the fine print when you re signing their forms. After having surgery for a fracture in my leg, I received a pretty hefty bill (which I was expecting) and was contacted by the billing department. I asked for a payment plan and they told me that I signed something that said I would pay the bill in 30 days. I don t remember signing that, but I suppose it s possible that I missed it because I was in pain and very anxious. Now they said my bill will go to collections and there s nothing they can do. I will do my best never to go to another Advocate hospital or give them another dime for their predatory practices. They should be ashamed.

I do not live that far from this hospital and when I was unable to get an appointment with my primary care physician due to UTI symptoms before vacation, I went here. The doctors took blood, but never tested it. They also had me give a urine sample which came back positive for blood (which is the main reason I went in) and negative for all other tests. I asked to have a kidney and bladder ultra sound because due to travel I was not comfortable being sent home. The ultrasound came back negative. I was informed that the blood in my urine was not concerning and that due to my female health issues (poly cystic overian syndrome and endometriosis) that all my symptoms were linked to that. I was not fully comfortable with this assessment, as I know it was not related, even told the doctor this. Needless to say less than a week later I was on vacation and running a high fever with symptoms that have only gotten worse. Ended up in an ER on vacation with a UTI that made its way to my kidneys due to the incompetence of doctors at this hospital. After speaking with my primary care physican, other medical professionals and the ER doctor that saw me on vacation, this infection could have been prevented if I was put on antibiotics when I was at this hopital, and they all found it bizarre that I was not. I will not be going back to this hopital due to there doctors complete incompetence.

DO NOT GO HERE. They purposefully code your invoices wrong. I went in seeking COVID treatment, my insurance covers covid treatment, but they will only code me as unspecified viral infection in order to try and receive multiple thousands of dollars of payments from me---for something that should cost me nothing because their ER chose the treatment I was given and now they tell me it wasn't enough and that is my fault--because I couldn't breathe and didn't know what to ask for. They refuse to send over the updated coding to my insurance even though I, and my insurance, have both requested it be sent over.

All of the people in the billing department who have given me different information and refuse to provide real assistance are: Armando, Jeanette, Elizabeth, and Lisa.

My mom had foot surgery performed at their outpatient surgery center and was treated very well.

Unfortunately I spent the majority of my day in the ER, but the wonderful staff at Illinois Masonic made it a lot less painful. I honestly believe that each person that I encountered actually cared, which was very comforting to me, especially since I went there alone and was pretty nervous. I hope they read this and know how much their patience, kindness and attention meant to me, and I'm sure to many others.
As for the facility, it was immaculate. Clean, modern and comfortable and in a lovely neighborhood. I felt I was in the best of hands and hopefully won't have to go back to the ER, but if I did, this is definitely where I'd go.

We just spent 5 days on floor 7 with a family member and received phenomenal care. The doctors were so thorough and straight forward. We really didn't know what was happening to my brother in law and they tested so many things to figure it out. They were just overall amazing. Would recommend this hospital to anyone!

Months ago they saved my now 4yr old son with breathing issues. "Hey, we are going to figure this out and he will be okay", said the doctor right before she took charge and gave orders that saved his life. That alone gave them 5 stars. Today they helped give birth to another of mine. I was given nothing but respect and top tier customer service literally every time I have come to the ER. The temporary pain and/or agony of waiting on a room/doctor is not a reflection on the quality of care. I love those doctors and anybody who helps make that place function.

My wife and I went to court to have our adult son involuntarily admitted for psychiatric evaluation. For three weeks he received good medical care for alcohol dependancy but then was "dumped" back on the street after psychiatric evaluation. The Doctor (?) wouldn't even talk to us about his underlying problems and thanks to him he is back in shelters and on the streets. So heartbroken as parents!

We arrived 7:30 ish - my mom who had suffered an obstruction in 2012--and had emergency surgery , today she has the same symptoms an we've been waiting 4 hours for a ct scan - she drank the barium required for this test-- Her IV bag has been empty for over an hour and she's ready to throw up again- I've called a nurse and no one had shown up ! All the while she's curled up in pain. She's using a Walgreens bag to throw up in cuz no one has given her a pan! This is just awful- the initial nurse was great-- guess he must of gone home by now! Still waiting for a nurse - hello ?????

Humiliating experience. Four months after being there for an X Ray, they never sent a bill. And guess what? They made sure to send it to collections. I have spend over 2 hours within two business days to get in touch with someone and pay the bill and because it is in "research department", nobody can touch the case. Humiliating and unprofessional. If you want to avoid a headache, do not use this hospital for any services.

READ BEFORE COMING HERE! If this hospital could make extra money off of killing you, they would happily do it. Expect to be treated very poorly, and half of the time forgotten. Also, expect random bills in the mail months after your visit, even up to 14-16 months. ER doctors sometimes won't even care to listen to your symptoms till it's almost too late. Came here before with a severe allergic reaction, only to be insulted by saying I was faking it. Which resulted in me nearly dying before they finally believed me! My father went here for heart problems and they treated it like it was no big deal. Worst hospital you could ever go to. You have been warned.

Excellent nursing staff, thorough doctors, and there is always someone who will try to meet your needs. I spent a two weeks (separately) here about a year ago, and I was consistently impressed with how thorough and dedicated the nurses were. If you have to be in the hospital, this is where to be.

Good team of workers in the mammography department. But if you want to get results you will spend a lot of time and nerves even you brought an order/referral from Doctor with all information and fax number. I called after 5 days passed after my exam the medical records department and they did not find my information, name, DOB, date of test, I was transferred to 10 different people, literally 10! Just for getting simple mammogram report. It is not first time happening. Enough, I used this hospital last time.

Went in for severe stomach pain and blood in stool. Turns out I have crohns disease. I sat in the emergency room for two hours while the staff joked around and did nothing. They drew blood but did not give me my results until I told them I was leaving and they needle to take the needle out of my arm. There was a man with a broken arm who was sitting there before I came in and was there after I left. It was clear he was in agonizing pain and they did nothing about it.

I had my daughter two years ago and my OB was Dr. Francesca Popper. This was my first child and she made the whole process so smooth. From the time I became her patient she and her staff were always available. I was also a high risk pregnancy that had to be admitted a month ealry. They made me feel like I was their only patient with 24 hour monitoring and letting me know about every detail and decision that needed to be made. It was after I had Dylin that I was being wheeled through the halls and I saw Dr. Popper's pic on the wall as Cheif Of Staff (or another important title)...that's why she's so good...she's in charge! But the whole staff at Illinois Masonic is great. A few of the nurses can take some classes on tact but the overall experience was one to never forget. My review is based on my OB and her great staff!

After a knee injury at Lakeshore Athletic Club, an ambulance came and took me to the Emergency room at Illinois Masonic. I was taken to the back where the rooms were, but was not given a room. I sat in the administrative area. I watched a couple of rooms come available, but was kept in the administrative area. Due to the extreme pain I was in, nothing seemed to matter, as long as they would tend to it. They asked what level of pain I was in on a scale of 1 to 10, and I told them 7 or 8. I thought that was a high level of pain and adequately described my situation. I was eventually taken back to get an x-ray. This is where my grievance really begins. As I was taken back to get the X-Ray, the tech had me placed in position and was going to start the x-ray, without the protective cover that is required when taking x-rays. I had to stop her and ask for it. I know x-ray techs and they have informed me that this is standard practice. Apparently it is not at Illinois Masonic. The emergency room doctor was great. He let me know that I had a ruptured patella and gave me all the follow-up information I needed and was the first of two positive experience I had. At this time, I was still waiting on the pain medication and inquired again. As I was in the administrative area, I could see and hear the conversations of the staff around me. As I watched a few people engaging in small talk (while I was still in severe pain), after about 5 minutes, one of them turned around towards me and handing me a cup of water and the pill. She was literally 2 to 3 feet away from me engaging in this conversation holding the pain medication that I had waited nearly an hour for. Well, this experience is why I chose to go to Midwest Orthopedics at Rush to complete the surgery instead of Illinois Masonic.

I would not like to actually have cancer and be in the hands of Advocate's cancer center. Never mind any expertise they may have. The inhospitable attitude and unwelcoming mannerisms seriously multiplies the stress of having any serious health problem. I was sent by my doctor to their Cancer Centre for a biopsy. I was alone, worried and nervous and had little sleep the previous night. I arrived 30 minutes early for my appointment. I was surrounded by cell phone users and uncomfortable furniture. 2.5 hours later, I was shown in to the doctor. The nurse apologized for the wait with a patronizing attitude.

From the start I had never been told the doctor was an hour behind (he was 2 hours behind), and only when I finally asked about the unusual wait after an hour, that they told me there was a cafe right upstairs to wait in over a coffee. When I had the procedure, it was done by a student doctor overseen by a seasoned doctor, which I would have liked to have been told. One more visit to review the biopsy and I'll be done with this hospital and their staff.
If you do use this hospital, bring a friend.

Rushed to ER with a bleed at 10 weeks pregnant. ER staff did not clearly communicate expectations which prolonged visit. Doc came in to say it was a miscarriage without running any tests. Ultrasound showed fetus was alive and somehow the tech missed a huge subchoroinic hemorrhage. Was told I should terminate since it was a miscarriage even though fetus had strong heartbeat. I declined and left as quick as I could. I made it home to my doctor where I received a proper diagnosis and am now 14 weeks along with a healthy baby that wouldn t exist had I followed their very pushy advice to terminate. I would advise staying as far away from this hospital as possible. Ultrasound tech couldn t even locate my ovaries. I realize it was a bit complex, but why push a woman to terminate without even having an ultrasound completed by a tech that can find all vital reproductive parts?

While I was not the patient at this Hospital, my son was.
Let me start by saying the number of stars (or lack thereof) has NOTHING to do with the staff. All of them from the front desk to the nurses and Dr.s were very nice, knowledgable and professional.
My problem with this hospital is the lack of staff.
Any and all of the hygiene related things had to be done by the family. That in itself isn t a big deal, but after 3 days of my sons sheets, blankets not being changed, it was like pulling teeth to get those items. He was running a fever constantly so he was sweating a lot.
I discovered he had a blown vein, so all the medications going through his IV (for who knows how long)were doing absolutely nothing. Isn t this something that should be checked daily or each shift? His forearm was so blown up and tight from the free flowing fluids, it was painful for him. How did someone not see this? I m not a trained professional, but it was obvious to me. It took 1 1/2 hours to get a new IV put in once it was pointed out to a nurse.
Also, because of the constant fevers and the being hot and then cold, there was no way for us to change the temperature in the room which was set to a pretty high 74 degrees. When we inquired about how to change it ourselves, we were told that someone had to call the maintenance department to change it manually for his room. We asked them to do that once, but ,what a ridiculous extra burden to put on a nurse or aid who have much more important things to tend too.
Again, I feel everyone was doing as much as they possibly could. I felt like the nurses and aids were wonderful, there just wasn t enough of them.
The hospital business isn t an unpredictable business such as a hotel or restaurant when occupancy is predictable. You re always going to have patients.
HIRE MORE HELP for the backbone of this hospital-the Nurses.

This is only the 2nd review that I've ever done....

I contracted "FOOD POSIONING" from a Tuna Sub sandwich, that I eaten on 10/27/17, which caused me a whole lot of very bad symptoms, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Sweating, Shortness of breath, and I even Fainted.
I literally thought that I was dying, during this episode that I was going through, I had no idea what was going on with me, I just knew that before leaving work on Friday 10/27/17, other than being a bit tire, I felt great.

But anyway, all of those issues landed me in the ER of Illinois Masonic Hospital, which I was only there for a short period of time, before being called to have vitals taken, and then maybe less than 30 minute's for seeing a doctor... And having a EKG, Chest X-ray, Blood drawn and having a IV in my arm.

And within a couple hours or so, it was determined that I needed to be admitted, for observation. And placed in a room on the Cardiac Floor, where I had two of the best nurses caring for me. Nurses Kendra and Rachel were absolutely amazing, overall I have no complaints about any parts of my stay there from Saturday 10/28/17 until Sunday 10/29/17 from the ER to the discharge. *Well other than the food, LoL,

And that was the first time, that I had been in a hospital as a patient, in nearly 41 years and then it was for childbirth.

Ultimately in the end, through all of the Scannings, Stickings and everything else, that needed to be done, it was concluded that my diagnosis was "FOOD POSIONING"

And while I hope not to have to be admitted into any Hospital ever again, I most definitely would NOT recommend this Hospital for anything serious.

However as polite a person as I am I didn't feel that I needed to be Hospitalized for that 24 hrs. period of time. after all, I did catch The Bus & CTA Train to get there, on my own.

Doctors and staff in general dont discuss and include patient in decision-making process. Example: doctor came in and was insulted that we would have questions. Another example: a patient who was too weak to get out of bed in telemetry, not be given a bath, and have gown & bed changed while there for a week.

I do want to acknowledge the few nurses who met the standard of care.

We just had our Baby girl here and were considerin other hospitals after getting some recommendations from friends and I am so happy we stayed here. The doctors, nurses, and staff went way above and beyond for us. They were not only great with our baby girl but they really took time to get to know us and teach us things we needed to know. They were so friendly that we feel it allowed us to ask even more questions and feel much more confident about taking care of our new child. That same friend that recommended another hospital visited and said she was even impressed with how great the staff here is.

Special thank you to Wanda for teaching me how to swaddle, Liz for helping us with feeding at 3am which helped our baby to get enough food to stop losing weight and actually put a little back on, Krystle for spending so much time with us, Brittany, Anna, Vania, Emma, Deborah, Marcia, Shannon and so many more that im having trouble remembering names because im on 2 hours of sleep. And of course Dr. Reis for doing a great job getting our baby out!

Cant say enough good things but when are ready for number 2 we are coming right back here.

I couldn't be more disappointed and disgusted with...

I couldn't be more disappointed and disgusted with my ER experience. I went to the ER in debilitating pain after a work injury. I was placed in a room where one of the techs helped me get into a gown since I was unable to this on my own due to the level of pain I was in. The primary nurse saw how much pain I was having and said she was going to get an order for pain meds right away. The first attempt of pain meds was oral Norco 5mg which did not touch my pain. Then I finally see the nurse practitioner, Rosie, who was difficult to deal with and I got the sense she just didn't want to deal with me. She orders for IV morphine which I get 3 hours after being in the ER with pain 9/10. Of course this still doesn't help my pain, we finally end up with IV Dilaudid after 5 hours of being in ER and still no relief. I suggest to my nurse how about an MRI of my shoulder instead playing this guessing game with pain meds. I hear my nurse suggest this to Rosie and her reply is "if she wants an MRI she'll have to come back outpatient ". At this point it's 3pm and its shift change for this terrible NP and the new NP comes in my room with discharge papers. I said to her you realize my pain is still a 9/10 with IV pain meds and this is your plan of care? To discharge a patient with the same level of pain as they came in with? Her response to me was " there's nothing else we can do for you". WHAT? This statement had me insensed. I am a nurse who hurt myself turning a pt and I know there's so much more you can do, you're just choosing not to. To top it off I was given an unnecessary cardiac work up ( not once did I c/o chest pain SOB ) but Rosie orderd a cardiac profile on me and I couldn't get the MRI I needed for my shoulder pain which was the whole reason for my visit. I'm saddened that this is how patients are treated at this facility and some of their employees values do not align with hospitals mission statement of compassionate care. I most certainly was not delivered compassionate care and I will never go bk to this ER again nor will I ever seek employment as a nurse at this place....it's an embarrassment.

There is more to life than meets the eye

I can believe in myself

Negative thoughts lead to fear

I can focus on positive thoughts

That affirm and nurture me

I am grateful for Alexis

I am grateful for Ken and his Rock n Roll

The need to be right is frequently

A step away from anger

I can be open minded and slow to anger

I like balloons, taking photos, listening to music,

Riding my bicycle in Chicago is one of the greatest thrills I have ever known,

And many activities that take less than an hour and cost almost nothing

I can enjoy many hour long vacations every week

Every person who has ever lived has

Had enemies and unhappiness

It is unrealistic for me to expect everyone

Will love me and I will always

Be happy

I can accept reality

A man was in love with two women at the same time

And couldn t choose which one to marry

They both married someone else before he decided.

I can choose what I want and go after it

Goals provide direction for a person s life

And most successful people have goals they work towards

I can decide today which path to choose

When I throw a cactus at someone with my bare hands we both get hurt

I can give up hostility

They Intentionally fraudulently file insurance claims.

As the title says, the "advocate group" intentionally miscodes procedures performed to the detriment of the patient. In my instance I ended up being charged for a procedure not covered by medical insurance even though it was a basic medical physical. When I tried to get a straight answer and get the situation resolved, I was met with multiple redirected calls, no clear answers, and multiple poor "it isn't my problem" attitudes. They are a shame to the medical community.

I feel this hospital saved my life. I am a healthcare provider myself and my stay with Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital was great. I enjoyed the food and the staff. I probably was the worst patient most people in healthcare would agree that nurses make the worst patient
since we are so stubborn and we really only want to give advice and never listen to our own advice from others. I had a wonderful recovery period at this hospital after having a Stroke on the expressway near by. This hospital saved my life, thank you. Keep up the good work too.

I had same day surgery, and stayed for one night. The nurses on 9 Stone were fantastic! My surgeon, Dr, Julian Dixon was outstanding. The staff in the area where iI waited to go up for surgery need to show improvement. I arrived on time for my 9:00 appointment and didn't go up for surgery until noon! The waiting time was bad, but even worse was the fact that no one communicated to me during the long wait. It would have been nice had someone given me an explanation as to why I had to wait so long.
