A very nice place to visit. I would definitely recommend this place to you.
A very nice place to visit. I would definitely recommend this place to you.
Everyone must visit this place once in their life time, after all it s the Birth place of democracy....
Nice view of the city below, the ruins tho require much imagination, i would recommend to hire a tour guide, so u can really appreciate the place with its history. Plus Greek ppl, they are the nicest, friendly like the Italians.
Also must wear a gladiator sandals hahahha
It is a great place with beautiful views, long and interesting history. A lot of sculptures, statues, stones, which were made thousands years ago by ancient Greeks. This place is really worth visiting. You won't regret. But remember to take water with you)
Like the pyramids in Giza, and Acropolis is a wonder you can enjoy from afar. Of course it's worth checking from a close distance, but I would recommend visiting the Acropolis Museum just before in order to complete the experience and understand the full scale of the story. The tickets line could be very long, so you better use the credit card machines for buying them.
This place represents a lot of greek history, but is poorly explained and promoted.
Few tables with text is not enough and is boring. At least audio guide or interactive content would be appreciated.
Hope it gets better next time I visit Athens.
A place to make you feel how big the world really is.
Amazing, my favorite was the story of two awesome people erecting the flag
I loved this place. It has a magic I cannot explain. 20 the ticket 10 during winter.
Visited in september 2019, for the first time in Athens.
Be sure to come early morning, as it's overcrowding shortly after opening hours.
Bring water and enjoy the history and views!
Visited in February 2018., it was actually my second time there. I would definitely recommend going there in winter - cheaper ticket, it's not scorching hot and best of all - far less people.
It is one of the most iconic places of Athens. It is about 30 mins drive from the centre of Athens. And then 15-20 minutes of walking till the top of Acropolis. Local tour guides are available through city tours.
A very good view of Athens city can be seen from here. Good architecture. Nice place for clicking pictures.
Place can be visited with family, friends and even with spouse.
Incredible place. The birth of many of our concepts and ideals. A wonder of the world! Must be seen!
This is the most historic spot in the ancient works. It is a representative of man's ingenuity and his creativity. The history behind this air is the history of the city. The city, so named after the goddess Athena, has her temple on the highest point in the city. The Acropolis was also the last line of defense the people had when the city was under attack. It was the highest Hill on the center of the city and can thus be seen from every point in the city. The are many places throughout the city that you can see the Acropolis from. It is going to be a great view from wherever you see it, but it feels like the city was literally designed around it. From the temple of the Olympian Zeus to the highest rooftop bar, you can see the Acropolis. When I say that it is one of the pinnacles of achievement of the human race, it really is. You can see the dedication and the commitment the people had to their city and their patron goddess. I highly recommend that you go visit this site if you are in the city. It is a life experience that many cannot relate too
Amazing place! No wonder it is a must see in athens. Very beautiful and historical. It costs 20 , but it is worth it. We went there 1h before closing and we had enough time to check it out, but you should definetly take your time to read about the temples and monuments.
We toured, and climbed up to the top of this amazing historic site!!! Such a beautiful site to see in Athens, Greece. And to be a part of is amazing!!! A Must see and experience...
Mind blowing place! I will proudly tell my grandkids that I ve been in the place from history text-book cover)
As advice: Better buy ticket for all ancient locations in Athens. Don t think that you won t need it
The temples are indeed beautiful, and the hill is very nice to roam, with the olive groves and the scattered stones. However, the entrance ticket is rather expensive and then you get herded by assistants all the time (which is fair, given the stream of tourists, but nevertheless annoying) . There are loads of restoration works going on in the Acropolis, which are indeed both necessary and interesting to look at, but subtract to the fascination of the scene. A tip for those who like me have a somewhat reduced mobility: the paths are uneven and the marble slippery, and the steps are loads, often without a rail.
Must visit in Athens! Undoubtedly a different experience - taking you back to the origin of modern day civilization. Beautiful view. Sunset would be the best time to visit!
It a Must-See landmark. I suggest you read a bit about Acropolis Athen before going so you can enjoy the sightseeing there.
In short trip, outdoor sightseeing of Acropolis will be enough and you might not need to visit Acropolis Museum.
Always wear comfortable and sporty outfits to enjoy the hilly track to the top.
If you visit Athens. Acropolis is the first place you should go. Specially, do not miss the sunset from the top of a small hill just beside Acropolis. Its simply awesome during Sunset.
Do not visit Athens if you are not willing to visit the accropolis, its worthless
This place is one of its kind. A piece of historical art and a must see during your trip.
The view from the top is awesome you should add this place to the top of your priorities when you visit Greece
Loved it, it was insanely hot to walk up there but worth it.
From wikipedia - The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The word acropolis is from the Greek words (akron, "highest point, extremity") and (polis, "city").[1] Although the term acropolis is generic and there are many other acropoleis in Greece, the significance of the Acropolis of Athens is such that it is commonly known as "The Acropolis" without qualification. During ancient times it was known also more properly as Cecropia, after the legendary serpent-man, Cecrops, the first Athenian king.
While there is evidence that the hill was inhabited as far back as the fourth millennium BC, it was Pericles (c. 495 429 BC) in the fifth century BC who coordinated the construction of the site's most important present remains including the Parthenon, the Propylaia, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike.[2][3] The Parthenon and the other buildings were damaged seriously during the 1687 siege by the Venetians during the Morean War when gunpowder being stored in the Parthenon was hit by a cannonball and exploded.[4]
The Acropolis can be seen from anywhere in Athens, yet it is still a complete surprise, when you climb the stairs and enter, for the first time. Magnificence and oozing with history. But be careful because it can be slippery with loose gravel on marble
The Acropolis is number 1 of all the tourist things you have to see in Athens. Buy tickets in the automatics, because there you pay 10 euros. On the desk you pay 20 euros for the same. It's a nice walk upstairs and the view on the top is amazing.
Due to COVID there were almost no people on top of the Acropolis, which made our visit even better!
Ancient, beautifull Attica, its a have to see destination! The Partenon, the ancient Agora, the amfiteatre and many more.
Obviously the must see location while in Athens. Go as early as possible as the site gets busier and busier throughout the day. The views from up here are amazing and it s certainly worth the visit.
The level of damage was huge historically and the leftover here is not really stunning even the government has restored part of it. Yet, it's still very incomplete.
After all, it's still the signature of Athens and worth a visit.
Gorgeous monument of athens with fantastic views an absolute must to see all the ancient buildings and at the side a perfect view for the sunset before heading down into the nightlife.
Words are powerless to describe this place, you just have to see it with your own eyes
It was wonderful, plan your visit in the morning or evening during summer
Magical, unique and exceptional experience. A Must when visiting the city. Tip: Go early in the morning or later on in the evening as it can be very hot. Bring water with you.Wear Comfortable non-slippery shoes and a hat
Amazing and truly breathtaking piece of history. Keep your hands on your bag and watch for pick pockets and highly suggest a guided tour!
Acropolis is a one of best history place around the world.
So much culture and history, makes you feel humbled to imagine what it was in the past and what we have now. To know it was the same location from the past to today. Well worth the few steps up to see and great 360 degree vistas of Athens.
Beautiful place, worth visiting in early spring when the price is only 10 eur.
A great place to walk around. Had a sour experience in Philopappos Hill, we tried to take family photos and were quickly asked to stop and told we needed a photo permit, even for non commercial and non-professional work. Sadly, it takes 2 weeks and costs 250 to get a permit. Later I found the worker at the park was not being truthful, but we did manage to walk further up the hill and take family photos.
Such an impressive monument! I've wanted to visit this all of my life and I was not disappointed in any way. Recommend you also visit the museum. Took about 2h to see the acropolis and another 2 for the museum.
Mesmerising to see the history and sad the see that it's in ruins. Wonder how it would have been at it's best. At its peak it echoed the wealth and prosperity of the Greece. Walking through plaka takes you back centuries.
Amazing historical site. Be prepared for crowds and heat in summer , but we still found quiet places to wander and take photos
The one and only!!!! The best of the best!!! The hot point!!!! This is Athens!!!!
I think the Acropolis of Athens is the most fascinating and popular attraction in Greece. Very good exploitation of the ancient ruins, ideal place for beautiful photos;
The old beautiful monument of Athens. Place deserve to be visited.
Completely overrun with people, ticket counters on the side entrance were said to be inoperable even when they weren t (they actually just tried to get rid of the line of people) and watch out, the supposed 3-day tickets only allow for a single entry, which can only be found in the fine print. Feels like a rip-off and will likely be a disappointment.
Fantastic place! Is a monument yo the history of the world and an iconic place that reminds the era of Kings, Gods and where the democracy was for the first time used, there are shops, and facilities like bathrooms. If you go in summer make sure you take water and a hat!
Beautiful place. Especially if you come early in the morning, just after opening - it s not as crowdy then
Incredible. If you have the chance to use a private guide, it's worth every penny!
Bus tour mostly stuck in traffic a lot of over grown trees blocking the view and a lot of graffiti on the buildings. I was expecting more beautiful buildings well maintained not so this trip.Lots of souvenir shops
Wonderful place where you can meet the glorious history
Here are only a few of the richest gifts ancient Greece has given to the world that still impact us today.
It was home to the first recognized historian.
It is the birthplace of world-famous mathematicians.
It is the foundation of Western philosophic thought.
Its founders designed the initial concept of democracy.
It was the first place to bring trial by jury into the courtroom.
It educated and entertained us with mythology.
It brought us the origins of theater.
It created the Olympic games.
It introduced beautiful architecture.
It shared with the world an incredible collection of sculptures and pottery.
It brought us the explanation of true tranquility.
It gave us the most comprehensive, meaningful word for happiness.
It gave us greek language as the basis for the technical terms of all sciences.
What history. Amazing accomplishments in building and architecture thousands of years ago. Very interesting but get a tour guide. They provide so much more information that you would never get on your own.
Amazing but really hot and crowded in summer. Love the museum
A must see architectural landmark! Go early before the crowds and the heat.
Very old and interesting and beautiful place but many many people in off high season.
You must reserve at least halfa day.
In hot day better to take water and hat.
Beautiful. Be careful with person tey to be nice to you. They just wanted you to give money
A must see while in Athens. Well organised to manage the crowds. Quite hot walk but expected. Not the hugest fan of the Classical world but I enjoyed the visit.
You cant be in Athens without visiting the Acropolis. Start from the street level, by looking at the imposing structure of the Acropolis. Then it s a steep hill, to reach the entrance, but at the end it is well rewarding. You have the remains of two temples and a small museum, apart from a great view of the city of Athens. There really isn't a whole lot more to be said about how stunning it is than what's already been said a thousand times over (and well deserved things I might add!). I would say though if you can deffinitely get there early, it will be well worth your time. Awe!
We downloaded the audio tour by Rick Steve and followed that round the acropolis sites which made it more interesting. In hind sight we should have went very early (8am) or waited until maybe 2 hours before closing to avoid the heat and the masses and masses of crowds. It is impressive and if we didn't have our 8 year old daughter who was flagging with the heat we would have stayed longer. As it was we probably spent about 2 hours
This place requires no comment. If you like history a bit or not, then this place will impress you. Attention, very crowded even out of season. Take water bottles and covers :)
Wow .Greece had such a rich history
One needs to visit Acropolis to know this
Go early in the morning and beat the buses arriving. Was a beautiful day, had rained that night but was clean and beautiful. Make sure to buy your ticket before if you are going if you will be arriving when it will be busy as you purchase at a machine like an ATM, no attendant, so could get crowded with many waiting in line. I walked right up and got mine with no one in line arriving at 9am.
Make sure to wear sturdy shoes as you are walking on VERY uneven places. Make sure to take time to really think what you are looking at. Its not just architecture, it was the accomplishment of many people's lives. I was worried about the marble being slippery after the rain but if you notice, there are tiny chisel marks on all of the steps where some ancient artisan didn't want his family to slip on the steps and so he and his co-workers chiseled each small round on the steps to make them non-slip. It made me smile to think that that worker's task was still working to keep people safe even today. Close your eyes for a minute when you are there and imagine the people that lived and worked there. That is the true story to be told.
Amazing Wonder!
(Angy&Alin, Phoenix, AZ, USA, August 28th, 2019)
Lovely way to spend an hour walking around the historic sites. Not as much there as you'd think though.
Perhaps the most important place to visit in Athens Greece. Get there as early as you can to beat some of the crowds or wait for a couple hours. It would be nice to be part of a guided tour. Or you can just casually listen in on other English guides. Count on spending two or three hours there. It also offers great views of the city.
How could you not love the ruins of the Acropolis, the pinnacle of ancient Greek architecture? It was not as crowded as we expected, though quite busy. We went in early September which is just after peak tourist season. It is a required visit in Athens, and we highly recommend Gate 1's guided half day tour. Their guides have all been excellent!
Very beautiful and historically rich. Must have a guide to tell you the history, or else you'll just enjoy it based on your imagination. Could get busy.
If you love sight-seeing and witnessing the last remnants of some of the oldest buildings in ancient history then you will love the Acropolis. The Acropolis is situated on one the highest points of Athens and contains a collection of More
Great historical site to visit. Went early to beat the crowd which worked out great. Gets very crowded as the day goes on.
Amazing historical place! If you are in Athens is a MUST to be! Beautiful view at the sunset
Wonderful place, definitely worth a visit if you are in Athens!
The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens. Take your time to read the informational plaques and learn about the ancient Greek culture. You should take some comfortable shoes and a hat if it's sunny. It is magnificent to see this monument with too many years and still stand!
Amazing view of Athens and Piraeus bay from mount Hymettus Greece
Best place to visit in Athens, for a wonderful experience of history. A must go place for everyone, but at, architecture and history lovers this is a place to spend not hours but days here.
The most beautiful place in Athens! Make sure you stay until closing time!!!! Because at this time the soldiers come marching up to take the greek flag down! Ticket cost 20 and for EU students it is free if you have your student card. You can also buy a 5 day ticket of 30 which give you access to most sights in Athens. This combined ticket is also free for EU students.
Whenever I visit Athens I must always go to the Acropolis. An amazing place and it is fascinating to understand all the history that has happened there.
Great historical place. Its is worth to visit at all times. It would take me a whole page to describe it, so with a few words i would say this is a must visit in Athens.
Lots of steps to get there and my knees not the best amazing view from the top and the acropolis and amazing place to visit. Not very good floor around it very shiny. Lack of hand rails and barriers.
The place is awesome. 30 / ticket for a full pass. I recomend to visit it in the morning, cause it's less crowded
Beautiful place but you have to wear sport shoes and take cold water with you specially in summer
Amazing site. Most definitely recommend to get the 30 euros ticket that grants access to this site plus few others around Athens. It can easily be bought online and you just have to show the code on your phone when entering. It s worth it and the most economical choice if you plan to visit other attractions
Recommend to visit early in the morning. Queue is long but don't get discouraged, waiting time is not that long.
Very impressive. A must see while in Athens! Be careful on some of the slippery stones and come prepared for the crowds and bathrooms in need of better upkeep.
Really good! Avoid going around noon as it can be very warm.
Make an early start and walk up to the Acropolis, beautiful narrow little streets full of charm ,and if you go early (7am) very quiet.the whole area lives up to all the hype, fantastic. !!!
Fascinating!
Not many visitors in February, though the weather is very good.
Ticket is 10 Euros in the winter.
