Although you may think that the Acropolis is an overcrowded tourist trap, no trip to Athens is complete without a visit to this incredible place. Yes it is crowded and yes it is pricey, but it is so worth it! The Acropolis is a window into the unbelievable history of mankind. The fact that such impressive structures were built so long ago is truly mind-boggling. Walking around the various ruins is a humbling experience. I loved it.

It was fantastic, our tour guide explained to us how the whole thing was made by aliens in the year forty. They were apparently cube shaped beings whose dead were used as construction materials for the bricks of the temple. Incredible.

Most beautiful and historical place in Greece. Lots of tourists, so make sure you go early or even better in the evening to watch the sunset. Also, it can be windy sometimes. Take your time, have water with you and enjoy! View is amazing!

We followed the advice of others and got there at 8.30am (half hour after it opened). Queues weren't too bad. Once inside we had space to move around and take photos. I thought 20 Euros entry was reasonable (children are free). It is worth the visit, views are amazing and the site itself is impressive.

When we left around 10ish the queue was very long, it was very hot and it was ram packed which cant have been a pleasant way to see the Temples.

The highlight of Athens! The epitome of ancient Greek culture. It was the first time I visited on a late afternoon and it was the best decision we made. It was not too hot, a bit breezy and we enjoyed the walk around the Acropolis. We found it a bit expensive though.

So much history and definitely worth checking out. I went on a Monday in the afternoon and it was quite hot so I recommend bringing some water as there are not many options for hydration at the top. Also they can be a bit slippery So make sure to be mindful of where you step. The view from the top is breathtaking and you will Not need more than an hour to look at everything And I would recommend checking out the museum before or after. Also make sure to bring the sunscreen as there are very few options for shade at the top

I was really lucky and accidentally went on a free entry day. Turns out that annually, on 27/09 they celebrate World Turism Day with free entry to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. I got there at 5.30 and the last entry is at 6.30. The place was still packed but enjoyable and it wasn't too hot. It's a fair climb and the marble is slippery even in dry weather so wear shoes with a good grip. A must see in Athens. If you have a chance do your research before you go, or download an audio guide app (or get a guided tour).

History I learned in social studies class, 15 years before my visit to the Acropolis, made it surreal seeing it with my own eyes. It's a shame it has to be constantly repaired, with the cranes and scaffolding, it makes the pictures look less impressive. A beautiful place to visit, would not recommend the hours of 12 - 3 in summer because we got burnt alive.

A must-see for the view and the size and magnificence of the monument. Definitely not worth 20 as there is no content other than that. The guards are overly annoyed and (rightfully) screaming at tourists touching the marble. Prepare to roast in the sun if going in the summer months.

One of the most beautifull places in Europe and world. There are two entrances to the Acropolis, one at the foot of the museum and the other on the upper side. I recommend that you go as early as possible to avoid a very sunny day. An ticket is 20e and there is there is a discount for students, it takes between 1 hour and 1 hour for a tour.

An obvious visit if you're in Athens. The walk is easy and you find yourself climbing the steps to the top easily. I'm unsure if people with walking difficulties or handicaps would find it as easy though as everything is marble and the paths are uneven. Beautiful views of all the temples and places around Athens.

This is the best time to visit Acropolis. No crowds no rush, basically you can enjoy it for yourself alone. Compared to few years ago it seems more restrictions & construction going on. Now you can not approach sides of the hill, which were nice spot for photo and to sit.in any case must see.

The Acropolis doesn't disappoint. We walked up the back streets to find it. It takes a while, so on a hot day our advice is to carry some water and wear comfortable shoes. When you finally arrive, take a while to soak it all in and remember that parts were built over 2,500 years ago. There's also a popular rocky outcrop (Areopagus Hill) to be found reasonably close to the Acropolis entrance. It affords fantastic views of both the City and Acropolis by night. Well worth waiting for nightfall.

The Parthenon

The Parthenon
Located on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece.
It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece and Italy one of the most famous tourist attractions in the world.
The temple was dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron.
Construction began in 447 BC and was completed in 438 BC.
The Parthenon replaced an older temple of Athena that was destroyed in the Persian invasion of 480 BC.
The temple is 101.34 feet (30.89 metres) wide and 228.14 feet (69.54 metres) long and consist of 8 columns on the east and west and 17 on the north and south.
The Parthenon had 46 outer columns and 23 inner columns in total, each column containing 20 flutes.
At the end of the 6th century AD, the Parthenon was converted into a Christian church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
After the Ottoman conquest, it was turned into a mosque in the early 1460.
On 26 September 1687, an Ottoman ammunition dump inside the building was bombed by Venetian bombardment during a siege of the Acropolis ,causing a heavily damaging the Parthenon and its sculptures.

I feel the Acropolis is an amazing venture for all people. As a student from the UK, our student cards were accepted for free entry as all EU student cards are! You'd be a fool to miss out on this for free! The sights were amazing and even though we didn't have a guide, the information plaques provided relevant information about the place.

An absolute must if you are in Athens, the ruins are great to walk around and explore and I think photos don't do them justice. When we visited it was also free as it was the last day in September, good information on the boards and easy to navigate around.

Absolutely amazing! The Acropolis, the surrounding park, and museum are a must see in Greece. I went during the off season in late March early in the morning, so there was not much of a crowd. The tour busses do start to arrive though, even in March, so I recommend getting there right at opening if you want to avoid major crowds. The site was clean, the staff were attentive to the safety of the heritage site, and the cats were friendly.

We were very disappointed. The Akropolis is a big building place which lost its charm. It's beautiful to see Akropolis hill from a distance, but horrible when you come closer. Thank you UK for breaking down the beautiful Parthenon temple and taking back the pieces to the British museum. And still refusing to return this heritage. Ridiculous and a bloody shame!

I don't need to explain why this place is truly amazing, a jewel of the classic world etc. So I'll only explain why I removed 1 star. It's just so goddamn full, so unbelievably full. That makes the experience a lot less special, but it is a must

Insider tip - get there as soon as it opens at 8am. You won t be disappointed. And it s well worth spending 30 for the full price ticket that gets you into 6 other sites. Mainly because it saves money and time queuing. It was very crowded when I went at 9.15am. Loads of tour groups and cruise groups. So try to beat them to it. Slippery in places so watch your step. An incredible site with stunning views of the city. A dream come true to be there today. Just annoying re crowds and people climbing over the security rope to stand on prohibited spots.

We spent a very lovely time in the acropolis of Athens. We got the ticket of 30 euros per person that lasts for 5 days and it was very useful as it gave us lots of flexibility. We then went to the acropolis around 11 AM in the morning and we spent there couple of hours. The sun was not to bad as we went in September. It wasn't so crowded too. It's a lovely place to visit. We would recommend you to visit the acropolis museum as it shows the history of this historic building. It was great to know more about the acropolis after seeing it.

The Acropolis of Athens is probably the best known...

The Acropolis of Athens is probably the best known place of Athens worldwide. Having paid your ticket and queued for the entrance, with a local guide and after a challenging flight of stairs, you see this spectacular archaeological site, including the ruins of the ancient godess Athena's temple, Parthenon, as well as the Erechteion and the old gates. All the buildings used to be imposing, tall, suitable for gods. The famous sculptor Phidias coordinated the teams of architects and sculptors who built most of what you see. The history is long, complex and fascinating, so don't go in without a local guide, you would lose much. Be careful with the heat (8.00 a.m.is the best time to be there) and the slippery red-marble hill under your feet! A stick might help. It surely helped me :) Enjoy the spectacular 360-degree view over the 5-million inhabitants city of Athens!

It's a must see, but it is for everyone else too. At 9am the tour groups start showing up, like an army. Lots of confusion and people standing around, blocking walkways.
The site itself is amazing. But it's not managed well. There's very little info on site. Most of the placards are about reconstruction efforts.
Bring water and a snack. You can't reenter if you leave. Get the 30 pass, it covers multiple sites and is good for 5 days

Iconic place. If you go there don't buy anything like ice or such before going up because they won't let you through the gates. You have to put everything down in a yellow building, like baby carts before going up.

Absolute must in Athens! Since we were limited on time, this was the main attraction. From here you see many temples and ruins as well as all of Athens. It can be stupid packed a crowded though. Go early in the morning and bring water. It took us 2 hrs to see everything. It cost 20 euro to enter per person. We entered without a tour guide or group which would have been good for extra info but there are online apps that can give you free tours of the place.

What can anyone say about the Acropolis of Athens ...

What can anyone say about the Acropolis of Athens that has not been said before. Iconic.
Plato, Homer, & Aristotle all walked the grounds of this plateau. Though ravaged by wars, restoration continues. The original art work is now in the adjacent climate controlled museum. like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Pyramids in Cairo, no trip to Athens is complete without a visit to the Acropolis.

A must see in Athens despite 20 euro, which is quite expensive in my opinion. But I think they use this fee to fund the restoration so at the end I believe it is worthy. The views of acropolis itself is magnificent and the bird view of the city is one of its kind. Many other ruins to visit beside Acropolis itself. I recommend at least two hours so you can take your time. The only drawback is that the staff is quite rude so be prepared to be yelled at or hear it all the times

Even on a hot day it is worth the visit. Getting a ticket may require some patience, used a ticket machine, that was easy to use. Loads of people though, getting good pictures might be tricky. Recommend to buy the water on the gate.
