One cannot visit Athens without climbing the Acropolis, or so Im told. We visited in January, when ticket prices are reduced and lines are non existent. Even though we are both out of shape, the hike wasnt exahusting. Bring a water bottle and visit the restroom before arriving.

Some tips: The acoropolis museum nearby houses most of the artifcats retrieved from the Acropolis, and should be visited as well. If you start in the museum, first stand in line in the Acropolis, buy your ticket, and then go to the Museum. This way you wont have to queue later, when the line will get longer. I recommend English speaking travellers use Rick Steves self guided audio tour (its free, google for it) as it provides a great 60 mins walk through history.

Extraordinary place, nothing similar in and entire world. You can feel the vibes of energy in all these areas around Parthenon. Also take we you binoculars for the discovery of the entire Athens, as the 360 view is up to the sea (of the weather permits it)

The heart of Greek history.
Been there several times and always go back with both emotions and pleasure.
I wish they had more funding to continue the restoration

The Acropolis of Athens and its monuments are universal symbols of the classical spirit and civilization and form the greatest architectural and artistic complex bequeathed by Greek Antiquity to the world. It is situated on a hill of average height (156m) that rises in the basin of Athens. Its overall dimensions are approximately 170 by 350m. The hill is rocky and steep on all sides except for the western side, and has an extensive, nearly flat top. Strong fortification walls have surrounded the summit of the Acropolis for more than 3,300 years.

Good experience, but a bit disappointed about the condition of the landmarks. Unfortunately time took its toll and you need some imagination here and there. A guided tour is highly recommended as if you're on your own you may end up not appreciating the place. We quickly found an audio tour for download and used that. Not perfect, but it set the context at least. Time-wise, plan ahead 2 hours to not rush through and have time to admire the scenery and views of Athens.

Amazing architecture on the mountain top. Great view of the city as well. With some imagination, you can see the glorious old days of the Greek civilization. Ticket is a bit pricey though, 20 euro per person.

Greece's most important (UNESCO) site, the ultimate example of the achievements of the ancient Greek civilization, with lasting influence in the western world until now.
In the summer, you'd better go really early or in the afternoon.

Acropolis does not need an introduction. We went early morning to this place. We walked from our Airbnb since it was close to Acropolis. People coming from other parts of city can take subway to Acropolis Stration, Public Buses and cabs. Once you reach the place you can enter from West and North side. You have to buy an entry ticket 20 for non EU citizens. Once you are in you can travel to 2500 years in the past to 5BC. You get to first hand see the Greek culture and the changes came with invasions by Romans, Persians, Turks and others. The size and symmetry of the structures are mind boggling. You can see complete Athens city from the top. This is a must visit for every human being.

Thirty years since we were last there and the only thing that seems to have changed is the hordes and hordes of people being shunted through. But worth it for us and hey it's Greece, so it's going to be good.

It gives a very nice impression of ancient Greek history. Flag hoisting ceremony by Greek army was nice to watch. Nice view of Athens - a very good place for photography. In a good weather trekking here is a nice experience. It's a "Must-Go" category tourist attraction.

This is a must see!

Helpful hint: wear shoes with good traction. The stone at the top of the Acropolis is worn and very slippery.

The view is amazing but make sure you bring lots of water with you to keep hidrated because in summer is like 40C in the shadow. There are water dispensers at the entrance. If you come to Greece, this place has to be on your list. It's amazing.

Athens, visit Acropolis, you will feel the wings of history here. When you realise that it was a little hard to walk all the stairs up here and people thousands of years earlier moved all stones for Parthenon, statues and other temples it's impressive.

Great experience. Can be a bit pricy but it's worth it. Just remember to bring your own water (no other drinks or foods since only water is allowed. You can also buy water once inside with water refills spots scattered across the whole place). There were alot of people but it didn't get in the way too much. It takes a bit to see everything but it's well worth it. And you get a amazing view once on the top. You can see other land marks. Zeus temple and so on. The construction scaffolding was a bit annoying, but not much you can do with that.

Are you kidding? It's over 5,000 years old. If you're in Athens, you have to go in my opinion. Of course a lot of travelers are there but the earlier you go the better. When we left, the ticket line was almost an hour wait.

Purchase the 5 day pass to various sites which includes Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Olympic stadium..for 30 Euros. Note the pass allows for entry once. Recommend starting early morning as it could get over 105 Fahrenheit during the day. Bottled water is allowed. Carry extra as it takes 2 to 3 hours to see all sites.

If you only visit one place in Athens, then you must visit the Acropolis. For me it was on my bucket list after the Pyramids of Giza and Colleseum of Rome. Amazing sight to behold. It's a bit of a steep climb in places to get there although I believe there is wheelchair access as well. From the top the view of the city below is amazing.

It's a once in a lifetime experience for most people. I am lucky to say I've been there. Amazing atmosphere and scenery. Very crowded, and expect long queues but that should be expected for such a popular spot.

Amazing experience. We climbed up the hill and got to see spectacular views of the city. There were two amphitheatres that were very pretty before reaching the top. Once you reach the Parthenon it is absolutely breath taking. You literally cannot visit Athens without seeing it. An absolute must to go here.

I ve seen many photos of this online but until you see it up close and in person will you really get a feel of the sheer massiveness and architectural genius it took to developers such a structure with the technology in 5bc. If you visit Athens, be sure to come here. If you are a student you get in for 10 and kids are free, under 18(I believe)

Pricing! Acropolis itself probably nice.

Pricing! Acropolis itself probably nice.
Another disappointment for a student in Greece. Nobody cares if you have a GREEK student ID and just as little money as other students if you're over 25. You don't even get a discount! But people who are under 15 and have a full time job with full salery get in for free. Please explain the logic behind this! Seriously, because I don't understand it. To me it's just a big disappointment.
Also the information about student discounts on the (I think official) homepage of the city of Athens is wrong.
