Was absolutely wonderful to take in. There is lots of walking on semi slippery marble so would recommend sturdy shoes. The Temple of Athena is gorgeous as well as the Parthenon. I would say to go up to Acropolis before 10am or after 5 or 6 pm before it gets too crowded with tour groups. The Theater of Dionysus was pretty empty and a great education of the history of the area and it's multiple purposes as well.

This place was magnificent. One of the mosts in Greece, no excuses! It s best to know the history before you go there. Has a lot of up going. So , be prepared. If you could have a trip to Iran, it s best to visit Persepolis as well! These two resemble the old days in the best way.
About the entrance fees: if you are on a budget, only pay for the Acropolis, because other places are visible just from outside and there is no need to pay for the entrance fee

The monumental complex of the Acropolis was built ...

The monumental complex of the Acropolis was built in the 5th century BC. on the ruins left by the wars against the Persians. Its main promoters were the statesman Pericles and the architect Phidias, two colossal talents at the service of Athenian democracy.
Currently with some areas under maintenance, it continues to maintain the imposing of the place, the history, highlights the paleness of the marble; the funds of the reliefs, and of incredible structures that are defined as majesty and living history today.

I would describe this tourist attraction as a nicely restored area of large old rocks. There were many couples who I assume were all deeply in love who attempted to take pictures with iPhone 6 (in some cases even newer model iPhone was used). I don t think the pictures will reflect the true magnificence of these ruins but you know, good luck.

It is a must if you are in Athens.

It is a must if you are in Athens.
Nice view with great heritage aspects. Everything was brilliant except the following : only a few water taps with warm water. The main building is still under restoration after so many years. Lack of directions signs, so you can miss something or you can go to dead end easily. The security didn't let us take a picture of a toy (I didn't understand the logic)
Make sure you have your camera with you, sun cream, water, confortable shoes and plenty of time.

The Acropolis is a great sight and of great value, I feel happy to have visited it.
What made my visit not so great was;
1. The huge number of visitors present at the same time due to disorganization makes it difficult to enjoy.
2. The view from the Acropolis is sadly very ugly, cement, cement and more cement.
3. The area around the Acropolis is extremely left out. Dirty, smelly, and dull.
So you really feel like you have a precious beautiful flower surrounded by rubbish.
I feel sorry for the ancient Greeks, I'm sure they wouldn't have wanted to witness how their heritage is being treated.
The greek government can do much better if it doesn't limit itself to easy short sighted profit earning.
Cheers

Well the walls are breathtaking. As well as the view from the top. Huge ancient columns still resonates awe around them - however there is a lot of scaffolding around. Plus cranes, trucks, bags with cements etc, all of them ruining the immersion. At first I thought that Greeks are probably proudly repairing such an amazing sight pretty often, but then I googled that the repairs started in 1975, and basically stopped at 2017. Like seriously I should pay full price to see old cranes around? (Take the 30 euro package deal for Athens btw - also EU citiziens under 25 have free entry).

Definitely worth a trip up there. Don't go too late as the site closes quite early and the last 15 minutes they start chasing people towards the exit. Beautiful view over the complete city, best place to see how big the area is.

It s quite incredible that the public can visit this ancient ruin that s in the process of being reconstructed.
I was amazed at how small I felt standing on the same place as Greek legends once were.
It s inextricably visit, and I m glad I visited in January rather than in the height of the tourist season. I didn t need to queue.

4 cruise ships in the port when we went here made this not so nice. It's cool to see structures so old w so much history but frankly the Acropolis is best seen from a nearby rooftop bar or restaurant. We stayed at the Elektra Metropolis. Had dinner looking at the Acropolis from their restaurant. Some of the best food in Athens and an unforgettable view

We bought our tickets in advanced, so we passed the long line for tickets at the entrance.
The place opens at 8:00, and we entered at 8:30 and when we got to the top (15-20 minutes of easy walking) there were already many people at the top but still not too crowded and we could walk freely in the compound.
When we descended at about 10, the slopes down were full of people climbing up.
So its important to come as early as you can, and especially in the summer when after 10 it is getting pretty hot under the sun which makes the climbing very uncomfortable, so you need to bring your hat.
There are a few water taps at the top compound and also toilets.

The premiere tourist location right in the heart of Athens. Tremendous large structures that reflect an era long gone by. Must be seen in person to understand the beauty and significance of the great architectural structures located at the top.

Amazing experience. We climbed up the hill and got to see spectacular views of the city. There were two amphitheatres that were very pretty before reaching the top. Once you reach the Parthenon it is absolutely breath taking. You literally cannot visit Athens without seeing it. An absolute must to go here.

The acropolis is of great historical and architectural significance. It is the one place that all the tourists flock to in Greece, most of them on guided tours. Try and get here earlier in the day or late evening to avoid the crowd. Our experience was somewhat marred by the crazy traffic of people. Do wear decent footwear like sneakers. It's not stroller or wheelchair friendly and involves bit of a climb.

One of a kind in this universe! Acropolis of Athens in the center of the infinity! You can still feel the whispers of the ancient Greeks and the unrivalled influence of their unique civilisation! A true inspiration for any generation and a must visit for anyone travelling in the capital of Greece. Visiting Acropolis once is never enough, its aftertaste is just the promise for the next visit!

BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE OR SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE CITY; the queue was ridiculous for people buying tickets at the Acropolis itself.

One of the best views on the planet. A monument rich with history and surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Even with the large number of people there it was amazing.

Very busy throughout the day, so plan your visit early or go during later times. Lots to see, so surely worth the entrance fee of roughly 20,-.

Watch out for the road towards it, if you come by foot there might be robbers in the small paths surrounding the Akropolis.

Be prepared to wait in line. Lots of tourists from all over the world are coming to see a most visited site in Greece. If your schedule allows, try to go later in the afternoon (the crowd should be smaller than in the morning). Acropolis is open until 20:00/8:00 pm.

What an amazing place! One of the most iconic places in Greece. Pretty busy, but once you are in past the initial entrance it's a large area and the crowd can thin out. The view of Athens around it a breathtaking.

This is definetely the main attraction in athens. It is located in the middle of the city and positioned as the highest in the city. It is a complex of amazing historical landscape and well-established and preserved. From the top, the view was awesome. You can see the city to any directions. However, these are some construction or rehabilitation on going. I really recommend you to come very early as it always has full of tourist! Even it will get crowded early. In every spots, they have a good view

An awe-inspiring place, in the heart of Athens.
Beautiful vistas all around, and unbelievable architecture.
A great vibe, full of mind blowing history.

Allow 1 hour minimum, wear trainers or good shoes, as it is uneven and slippery marble in places. There are hills and steps, so bring water!

Really interesting place but in the height of summer it's very busy. I'm fact it's heaving and the route up to the Acropolis can be a little difficult for some. It can also be a little slippery as the paths are stone and have become very polished over the millennia, but it's a must see and there is plenty to see on your way to the top.

Can t come to Athens and leave without visiting the Acropolis. Best time to go is as soon as it opens (8 AM) to avoid the crowds and heat. Bring water with you, the shop near the ticket office runs out. make sure to wear sneakers or shoes with good grip and bring a hat! We took a taxi right to the entrance which was a lot easier than being dropped off at city center by our hotel shuttle.

Better to go there early morning as a line and crowd gets very big. Not much space to move and does not impress. Quite hard to walk during Summer time during late morning. Would suggest to choose a cloudy day to visit.

It is everything you've read about it. Majestic and commanding in its presence. There's a lot of history with the Parthenon, Temple of Athena, Theatre of Dionysius centred around various other ruins.
Be ready to spend an hour in the queue for tickets which are priced at 20 each. If you pick a guided tour, you can skip the line.
Worth a visit. Also would recommend a slushie at the store opposite the ticket counter.

Amazing time spent here, it's a bit hilly with steps going up but well worth the journey, you can view the city from the top of climb here too. It was crowded with school children or trips while I'm here during November. Lovely sunny weather

Top tourist draw for Athens. Both international and locals come here to marvel in the beautiful Acropolis. The entrance fee is 20 in summer, 10 in winter and free for student with valid student card. The sun is hot so use sun protection and bring a water bottle to refill at the top. Check out the museum as well since it is one of the best in the world. Enjoy!

Obviously the historical relevance of the site is priceless, my review will focus on Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the site... Bottom line: no accommodation whatsoever made for the handicapped or elderly - the majority of grounds surrounding the Parthenon were so slippery (without being wet) that I personally watched a rotund woman likely in her 50s, fall and nearly break her knee. I rushed to her aid and staff were nowhere to be found...

Overall, seeing the historical site is a once in a lifetime opportunity if you are not handicapped or elderly and can access it without injury ;) Major safety concerns - for 20 euros per person x quadrillion daily visitors, you would think that quality and safety standards would be higher...

BTW, I personally fell once while attempting to navigate the grossly negligent unsafe steps, fortunately, I didn't hurt anything - would have ruined the rest of the trip...
