Good experience, but a bit disappointed about the condition of the landmarks. Unfortunately time took its toll and you need some imagination here and there. A guided tour is highly recommended as if you're on your own you may end up not appreciating the place. We quickly found an audio tour for download and used that. Not perfect, but it set the context at least. Time-wise, plan ahead 2 hours to not rush through and have time to admire the scenery and views of Athens.
