This place is amazing. They are the only intake shelter in Philadelphia, which means any animal that you bring into there facility means that they are taken in by this shelter, given all the medical attention they need and taken care of. I will admit that sometimes the staff may not be cheerful or joyful all the time, but would you be after seeing homeless animals all day? It s a hard job and I can assure you that they want nothing more to find these animals a great home and help in any way possible. Go in and at least check them out and see what they re about, for yourselves! And remember hate speaks louder then kindness, there are so many successful stories that you don t hear about because the few nonfitting animals speaks so loudly

Worst experience ever! Where do I start? They do not give honest and thorough info of the dogs being adopted! I wish I could give negative 5 stars. Customer service is laughable, people at the front desk are cold and stoic, showing no concern or empathy for a child that was bitten by a dog. (Things could have been much worse) They are only interested in getting rid of dogs, not really concerned if it's a good fit for person, family or dog. Very upsettingsad, frustrating and misleading, and I will never go to this place again!!!!

For a shelter, the animals are really loved and have so much grass to play on! And they get walks and everything. I wish I could foster them all. Keith is really nice too! He really cares about the animals ! Please adopt a dog!!!!

The worst experience ever!!

The worst experience ever!!
Hire people that can be respectful and polite because you don't have them working for you now. Terrible customer interaction.

These guys are awesome I found a bird with broken leg, asked them if they could help the bird and they rescued it. Thankyou guys, truly appreciate your work towards protecting animals

They don't answer your phone calls and ignore your emails. I have tried numerous times to call and email about adopting two different dogs here. Since it was IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone at ACCT through calling and after several emails sent, I drove out to ACCT TWICE to inquire about adopting. When I got there on both separate occasions they told me that the dogs were going to a rescue and they couldn't tell me where the dog was relocating .. I don't understand, we try to adopt and not shop, but these shelters and rescues make it VERY DIFFICULT to adopt a pet! You guys are all about "saving a pets life" but don't even give them the chance to be saved when they can be. It's a shame these dogs just sit in these kennels waiting for homes and these people are just letting them!

Stay Away! I called TWICE about a specific dog on their website, only to NOT receive a call back. So, I took 2 hot bus rides up there, only to find out that the dog I was looking at was shipped to their King of Prussia facility, where they adopt out smaller dogs (which mine was). Their website does not state that smaller dogs are adopted out at their KoP site, and they never returned my calls about the dog I saw on their site. They could have saved me a LOT of time, trouble and heartbreak had they even bothered to call me back. I would give them less than 1 star if I could.

Volunteers are doing a great job taking care of the animals and keeping clean the place. If you are looking for dog or cat to adopt this is the right place to go. They also accept pets that you want to surrender. Easy and quick process.

They re going through a renovation so it might be little messy now. After they finish I m sure it will get back it s nice cozy look!

Nice

Several years ago I got two for one cat adoption. I took one cat home and the other needed surgery before I could take her home. When I came to get her they gave me a different cat and told me that I was mistaken about the cat that I originally requested. Completely unfair completely wrong I was devastated. Recently, I had to bring my dog here who had died at my house. The front desk was quick. I had to take my dog around the back of the building . The young man came out and got her. He was gracious enough to tell me he was sorry for my loss.

i had a coworker take a stray cat here that had attacked me a week before and instead of keeping the cat they released about a week after we took her there they spayed the cat and let it out its been cold like yhey couldnt try and find it a home

All of these low ratings are ridiculous. This place is a SHELTER, where people bring in stray's and surrender their pets. Yes, it smells. It is not a bed and breakfast. They are short staffed and in a tough business.
I adopted a dog here recently, and while it had some hiccups and wait times, I couldn't be happier with the dog I brought home.
Regardless of your feelings about the staff, the smell, the lobby etc: these animals need help and loving homes.
During the adoption process I did catch an attitude with a staff member and I regret it, because just by sitting in the lobby and seeing what they actually deal with on a day to day basis, I felt extremely bad for them.
So no, it won't smell like Yankee Candle and maybe be a bit nicer to the employees who are there, working constantly to take in pets, and find good homes for pets.

This is the second time we have made the hour trip here, just to be told that even though we are there within open hours the dogs were unable to be looked at. We evenookwe on their website before driving and nothing was said on there in regards to the building being closed. Just be warned, don't drove far because you might be turned away.

Rudest people. They don't listen, they don't help you, and they don't care about those poor animals. All od their dogs are poorly taken care of and have kennel cough. They lied to me multiple times about a dog I adopted who is sick and I didn't even know it.

Save yourself the trouble of even coming here! The vets have no absolute idea what their doing, I bought my sick 10 week old kitten there because she was throwing up and the vet said she she was "perfectly fine" when she obviously didn't look okay, she had no idea what medicine to give her and honestly Im pretty sure she just picked up a random medication and gave it to my kitten. I wake up the next day and my kittens on the floor dead. The people at the front desk are terrible and they don't know how to do their jobs, the vets have no idea what their doing or talking about, overall don't tortue your poor animal by bring them here get them a real vet this place is terrible!

Its so unbelievably sad to walk through their dog kennel to see nothing but pits. And as much as i believe they deserve second chances like any other breed, the dogs in those kennels were probably not the greatest dogs to put in a spot where they are up for "adoption". One was labeled as "sweet and loving" and as soon as we was reading it, he tried his hardest to lunge and bite us.

Their hours of operation are confusing. Checked online and on the paper I was handed by animal control 8am-8pm.
I called and was told they close at 8pm, but usually earlier at 5pm (3 hour difference?!) And that I should call back later when they open at 1pm (5 hour difference). I wish I could post hours of operation but tell people different times the restaurant I operate opens and closes.
Long story short...
Try to contact them after 1pm and hope you don't have anything to do between 1pm and 5pm just in case you have to show up at 2:45pm due to them feel like closing at 3pm.

This crew works hard to save as many lives as possible and encounter no shortage of a-holes along the way. Please be kind to shelter workers this is hard work and their hearts are huge! Keep up the amazing work team.

Staff was not helpful or friendly. Came looking for a specific dog, they said it went to a different rescue but wouldn't share which one. You would think they want the pets to be rescued and not be so secretive.

On Thursday i made me make an appt to surrender my cat for Monday and I'm trying to cancel and been calling since Friday and can't get through!!! Very frustrating! Noone answers

This place was nice. They had good insight on the animal I wanted. They are friendly and they want to pair you with the right pet. They have a variety of animal to choose from. We found what we were looking for, a male yellow cat. Take advantage of free adoption. They do them a couple of times a year. I did!

What a fantastic organization this is. They are the official 'lost and found' dog and cat shelter who also take in surrenders and do adoptions for the City of Philadelphia.

The staff was very professional, the facility was in very clean condition considering the number of animals that come through there every day, and luckily our dog who had been lost the day before was easily located and we were able to take him home

Went to see the shelter as a potential volunteer with ample experience in pet rescue. The staff was incredibly rude, unhelpful, and seemingly detrimental to any chance of helping someone adopt an animal. I was greeted in the lobby by 2 male staff members arguing loudly over what to do with a pile of trap cages filled with kittens that not a single staff member knew the story behind. I barely made it past the front office. Absolutely sickening knowing such unqualified and uncaring people are the ones in charge of saving animals.

Went there to adopt a dog. Not one person there was helpful. On our way I was putting my son in my car seat and an employee packed out of her spot and hit my parked car. She basically cursed me out in front of my two children and took off. I was then assaulted by about 10 employees. If you're looking to adopt I would not recommend this place.

Someone left a Mama cat & a tiny baby behind my house in a carrier in the rain. I called ACCT & they came to the rescue. Now Mama & baby are safe & warm. Thank you everybody at ACCT for taking care of our furry friends.

This place and it's employees are horrible I highly recommend going to a different shelter. They advertise free adoptions because of too many animals but they were turning people away at the door both Saturday and Sunday and It wouldn't be that bad but there employees are so lazy they won't even answer the phone. I had to drive an hour there both days just to ask if there at "capacity" lol horrible place

Took too long to answer the phone. Gave 2 hour limit never came. Wanted me to drive there don't have a car. The furbaby only wanted shelter from the rain and heal his wound on paw and now a limb plus he needs immediate attention ran in front car hit his mouth bleeding rain probably washed all the blood away. When he finally stops running he'll need plenty of rest food water and antibiotics. He s a beautiful gray pitbull between 3 - 4 yrs old he s been used and abuse for him to escape today. If you can't help him send him to pitbull rescue don't put him cause you don't want extra work

I hope that they don't put the animals to sleep when you bring them back but I'm looking for kittens and they don't seem to never have any order to give you any update when they give out the free animal food

Our family adopted a dog from this shelter yesterday, and I had to write a review ASAP! The staff was amazing! We worked with a guy named Shaun, and he was so helpful, and takes his job seriously. He wanted to make sure the dog we liked was a good pick for us, and answered all of our questions without hesitation. While we were at the shelter we saw SO many people walking the dogs. It was so sweet! A little bit after we left I received an email from Keith thanking us for adopting Ollie, and told me we can contact him if we have any questions. Also in the email, he provided us with the contact information for our dogs advocates. If you are considering adopting, please check out the animals here. They are wonderful, and the staff will help you every step of the way!

THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!!! Please stay away from this place its dirty and they lie to the customer face about how the save animal but in reality they kill innocent animals everyday the make room in the shelter. They let you adopt sick animals and then ask you did to them or ask would you like to exchange the animal like there nothing which just makes me sick thinking about. This place care only because profits and thats it. I had a friend work there and quit within a couple day because it made her sick because what they where to the animals. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE IF YOU LOVE ANIMALS !!!! And if anyone wondering why i gave them one star is because thats the only way to write a review

They sold me two dying kittens. When I got home after picking them up, one of them died over night. I had to take the other one to the emergency vet, that kitten is dying as well. This place is poorly run and is not managed well at all. I tried asking them what was wrong with the cats before I got them and they never said what was wrong. DO NOT GO HERE.

I would rated lower if I could. I called them several times trying to save a Raccoon that got hit trying to cross the road. They never showed and the Raccoon expired. They have a hell of a nerve to even try to associate themselves with any agency that is against animal cruelty!

Staff was a little unwelcoming when I asked about adopting. They were just sitting around, but I found who I was looking for. Great variation of cats and dogs. Adoption process is really easy.
