What a really cool place. An aspiring history buff, I was especially taken with the notion that Andrew Jackson recruited Jean Lafitte's armada here, and essentially planned the Battle of New Orleans in this place. Really cool, super nice bartender, and way old school. Check it out!

Very good bar I really loved this bar it is a very good one I had an excellent time with my friends having good beers and excellent service but the bar has a great atmosphere in the bar that gets excellent the truth
I always go here when in NOR but most more. Servers were more interested in drinking their beers behind bar than waiting on us. I can never get my wife back on there nor would I want to. Once we did get waited on drinks were weak and late. Stay away. Too many better places close by
Manager took drink that wasn t finished tried to get me to buy another 20$ drink again. She says she s the manager named Jackie but who knows. I think this is a scam they run
Absinthe is expensive but dangerously delicious. The place has a certain classy but eerie feel that only boosted the experience of the preparation and taste of the absinthe.
Oldest absinthe serving place in New Orleans. We tried Mata Hari. The staff is knowledgeable. It's a type of dive bar so it's rusty and bathroom is dirty and accessible only to customers. It is open till late so if you want to have a little peace in middle of chaotic Bourbon then it can be a good stop. Drinks are pricy due to location I guess.
This is not the Old Absinthe House I visited in pre-Katrina times. What happened to the real deal? What did they do with the walls covered in real money and business cards? I don't think this establishment is even in the same location, so I was very disappointed. It appears that an historical treasure has disappeared.
Nice old bar with a ton on sports memorabilia and business cards for decor Attentive bar staff and decent drinks Good amount of locals and tourists drinking
My best liked bars in NOLA. A hole in wall place with a lot of history. Well made drinks. Sits at an intersection with good view of both streets. Excellent place to sit and drink while watching all the activities.
The bartender was awfully condesending. She seemed like she was suffering from delusion of grandeur or something. Otherwise, authentic absinthe experience. It's very expensive but it only takes a literal few to knock you flat on your bum.
Visited in october 2017 and found the bar to be super friendly with a very inviting atmosphere. Steffanie , Melody and Trish all on consecutive days gave great service and historical knowledge about Norlins and ez pecially bourbon street. Can't wait to come back but hoping Bourbon st is not a construction site. Well done Absinthe house and cheers from Australia. See you soon.
The menu had several varieties of Absinthe and included detailed descriptions. Average of ~$20 a pour.
[Be Aware: Absinthe has a lot of Anise (licorice flavor with a numbing quality)] If you don t like licorice, this might not be the bar for you.
This was my first time having Absinthe. The bartender poured a little Absinthe into the glasses then placed a sugar cube on top of a slotted spoon. She poured the rest of the absinthe over the sugar and lit it on fire. To finish she pour a little water over the sugar and it all melted into the cup. It was a very cool presentation. The bartender gave us popcorn as a palate cleanser for trying the different absinthes.
A classic dive in Bourbon Street with historical significance. Specializes in absinthe but also serves beer and cocktails. Great place for people watching day or night.
I m a Absinthe fan and was elated to stumble onto this find! After looking over the various Absinthe opportunities, Butterfly Classic Absinthe (130 proof) was recommended. Drank traditionally, this was a highlight of my NOLA layover
Came here to try some absinthe . Trish the bartender is very rude . Next time I'm back in New Orleans i will take my business elsewhere unless trish is not there . Very rude and unprofessional .
If you like black licorice or sambocoa then this is a must stop..would love to know the name of absinthe used in the Bahamian...it was a good drink...then followed by mothers milk..omg i was happy all day
Great bar, one of the best on Bourbon Street if not the best! Service can be slow, but the environment and drinks are worth the wait. Local craft beer offered, and they make a mean Ramos Gin Fizz!
Went to see some history in this almost two century joint and was met with mediocrity. Located on bourbon street and packed with people I thought the drinks could have been better but I suppose I expected too much after visiting other bars. Grimy and old but had a lot of character but not enough for me to visit again.
Rude as hell- poor service, 20 people there and it took 20 mins for barmaid to ask for IDs and then she walked away before we could even respond, present, or order.
Been here a bunch of times as I live in NOLAW and used to work in the quarter. It's a great bar with great people. The only downside is it's very small.
So quirky and fun! Stopped in for a drink daytime and it was not too crowded. Night time was pretty packed, but met nice people. This is a tourist spot, but it's got charm.
Good service, but weak drink selection and it offers wafting smells of Bourbon Street to compliment it's dive-bar decor. Putting a uniform on your bartender doesn't class up your venue when seats are held together with tape.
They're very patient with you and describe all their drinks with patience, We enjoyed it ! From STL MO , HAPPY HALLOWEEN NOLA, PRAYERS GOING OUT FOR ALL EFFECTED BY KATRINA . I LOVE YA
I typically spend about $100 every time I come in here. I'm not a regular but I make it a point to stop in a couple times a year. I decided to stop by this last St. Patty's and was told I couldn't use the bathroom until I made a purchase. I told the "Bathroom attendant" that I was going to order drinks when I was finished in the bathroom but he refused. I walked in with 3 other people. 3 people that were standing at the bar waiting to be served. I made a decision to leave at that very moment.
