You never have enough time to be here. So much things to see even general admission. We considered to buy to see extra exhibition and didn't at end, but that was good idea for us. Even the range of general admission, we just saw part of 1st and 4th floor. Everything is so interesting. We love to see ancestors of current animals and see how they developed themselves. Our 6 years old daughter was so happy to see dinosaurs.

Family went there today.. 40 degrees outside.. 85 inside. You have to dress for the day in NYC, layers and hats and gloves.. we get to the museum and it's like the Caribbean. Please help all of the visitors, turn the heat down and open a freaking window. By the time we got to the second floor, my teenage kids were toast.. wife was sweating and I was dead. We cut the entire tour short and bailed mid way through. It was a shame that we just couldn't bear it any longer. And it was obvious, from others confessions (including staff) we were not alone. There is no reason to make this place a sauna, cool it just a bit and the visitors will appreciate it.

AMNH is definitely one of my two favorite museums in NYC (if not in US). Must see for anyone visiting the city. The museum has an amazing collection of permanent exhibitions alone. Do not miss the dinosaur fossils, planetarium, and ocean life! It's practically impossible to see and appreciate every exhibition in the museum in one sitting so try to see only a few at a time and save the rest for subsequent visits.

There s lots to cover to explore and check out all artifacts. Good place to learn some history, I know I learned some stuff. It s quite interesting looking at other cultures and how truly unique each one of them are!

So stuffed safari trophies are a bit weird, but the special exhibits are always good and if you have a 10 and under they will love the dinosaurs and the big whale. Just be prepared for the tribal dioramas.

One of the most famous museums in the world that must be visited if ever in New York. You can purchase tickets online or if you d like can simply make a donation of your choosing at the point of entry and that will be your admission charge. You can spend hours within the museum visit each of the wings and exhibits but our primary focus was the dinosaurs. Sadly the T-Rex exhibit was closed when we went due to flooding of some sorts the previous week. Still a fun time overall.

Extremely expansive museum with so much information. It seems like it could be updated a little, but the experience was great. Make sure you have enough time if you plan to see everything, as you could easily spend a whole day here.

Great place, you can see history from all south America, North america, Australia, Asia, animal from Africa and America, also you can see all the history of dinosaurs and many many docile and some incredible dinosaurs. So if you like museums you will like these one. The ticket price is $23 USD suggested and $28 for two so make sure you get there early to expend all day in the museum and you can lunch in one of the coffee shops inside.

My other favorite. Different feel from the Metro, but equally as interesting. It reminds me of being back in Europe and touring Vienna at night. I made frequent visits and always saw something different.
Love it!

I haven't been in the museum in decades even though I live a few blocks away. The double digit admission fee always kept me away, but I was brought in by the new policy of pay as you wish. I paid $5 and I over paid by $4.50! I was shocked to find that the museum was as dark, dusty and drab as it was when I visited as a school kid in the 1970s!. The walls and floors need serious attention, the exhibits need to be freshened up and most of all, the museum has too much wasted space! They need to rethink the layout and people flow. For example, the room with the Native American Totems is dark, poorly laid out and has lots of room for more exhibits. I saw a group of tourists sitting at a card table! in a very dimly lit area of a already dimly lit area! The museum is planning to spend millions to build a new education center. Instead, they should give the money to a museum consultant to redo the entire museum from the top down.

First things first: you do NOT have to pay the admission fees you see on all of signs when you enter - these fees are SUGGESTED. Admission is actually on a "pay what you can" basis; if you want to pay a dollar for your ticket, you can.

Second, there are kids everywhere and you shouldn't be surprised at this. Yes, adults can enjoy the exhibits too, but it's quite obvious that this museum is aimed towards expanding the knowledge of our youngsters in areas that some schools can't achieve on a normal day. Trying to see everything in one day would be quite tiresome for a kid too, so come back a couple of days if you can - it's a lot of information to take in at once, even for an adult.

lots of cool things here. I watched a 3d movie on birds migrating North (not those cheap paper glasses, the plastic ones) and one about the universe narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson in the Hayden planetarium.. below the planetarium was a few cool space exhibits and a gift shop (my Newtons cradle was all tangled out of the box). lots and lots lots of stairs, and the elevator takes forever so it's not worth. there was a huge tree on the 3rd floor. the gem exhibit was closed though I remember it being cool from a few years ago. the museum gift shop had tons of cool things. the sand thing was fun to clump into a sphere and collapse. there were 2x2 Rubik's cubes and mefferts mini skewbs, surprisingly. I did not eat at the food court, but there were places within a mile which looked good. overall I had a fun visit and would go again. 4 stars because gems was closed and the Newtons cradle was tangled

My visit here was kind a rush. Intended to go to central park but it was raining so we decided to go here instead. Took a free private tour, but didn't finish it due to the next schedule which was broadway. This is a big museum, lots of chambers and plenty to see and learn. A good activity for children though. Overall was great, i would love to come back here again with more time to spend.

A great museum with grand exhibits and small hidden away gems. One of the best dinosaur exhibits that does a great job walking you through all of the ages. The hidden, quiet area are the best and worth getting lost as you find them. It s easy to get lost or turned around as you make your way through. Don t plan on doing everything in a day.

This is not only a world famous museum, but also an excellent local resource. I have recently found a new connection to the place with online content classes (Seminars on Science) for teachers and summer intensive programs. They are experts at sharing information about global natural history and local New York history as well.

This has to be the best museum I have visited in years. The place was amazing!!! The shear amount of exhibits in the museum require almost an entire day to visit. The museum is free of charge but request you donate a certain amount.

This place is magical to me and always makes me feel like a kid. Sure, the diorama sections make you feel like you stepped many decades back in time, but I love that. My favorite, hands down, is the fossil area with the dinosaurs. If it weren't for the fossil hall, I would still think that narwhals were the unicorn of the sea. Who knew those were real?! Not me. The ocean life hall with the life-sized blue whale hanging from the ceiling is always magical.

With the Guggenheim and the Met so close you might wonder why bother with a museum on "natural history?" Don't question it. Just go. They have plenty of cool things to see and the space center frequently hosts cool events.

My kids still love to go this museum i recommend but one thing if you planned one trip i recommend use they park and pay for the parking car not too crowded to make line because the other entrance always full so you have to be super early to be the first one. And so naturally and take your time to visit every corner no rush be early.

So happy to see them reopen again. During COVID-19, although need to make a reservation before you visit, but had another experience to see around in this museum. All staffs were nice. Thank you all.

I got a membership because even though it's suggested admission price, it's worth it to skip the long lines and I am happy to support this museum. I never have a bad time! I love the classic unchanged exhibits I remember from childhood and my son is just as obsessed with them. The special exhibits are also great! I can't wait until my son is old enough to go to the planetarium!

A Great place to visit for all age group ! If you want to explore about earth, space animals, costumes or history they have everything! Even a day is not enough to cover all. Very well displayed and explained, we loved it and for sure will plan again to cover the part we could not touch in our first trip!!

If you visit, be sure you make it to the upper floors. For me at least, they are by far the most interesting part of the museum. That's where they house all sorts of fossils and reconstructed skeletons of ancient animals.

Most of the other reviewers have said everything else I would say, better than I could say it. But don't miss the upper floors.

The museum is very beautiful. I wandered around all day. We went to the Neil Degrassi Tyson show which was by far my favorite part!
The food court was very blah though. I had chicken and Mac&cheese, (couldn t finish the chicken) the 2 meals I bought was over $40.. Expensive Mac&cheese lol

I recommend you eat first because the museum is great

Best museum if you have interest in history. Very clean and well maintained place. It's like a treasure in new york city for those who want to learn in details about history of human culture, arts, nature, animals and universe.

Good museum and definitely worth a visit. It is very large so you could spend plenty of time here and not get bored but still, it's not up there as one of my favourite museums. Much of the museum was very dated, plus I'm used to London where most museums (and all the big ones) have free entry so wasn't expecting to pay an entrance fee as well as fees for any of the temporary exhibits.
The sections on the history of different peoples and some of the nature displays e.g. stuffed lions, gazelles etc were quite boring and dated with limited information as I already mentioned. However, it was kind of cool to spot some of the displays after seeing the movie "Night at the Museum"!!
One big plus was the dinosaur and other extinct mammals and reptiles section which looked to have been recently updated and was extremely well done! The layout, the specimens and info were all great! They just need to do this to the rest of the museum now!

The standard for museums. We purchased a standard entry plus all exhibits ticket for $33/each and were not disappointed. This is an all-day experience that should be a MUST on all traveler's NYC list.

I LOVE this museum! It is huge and there is so much to see and do! I allowed myself 6 hours on my visit and was rushing most of the time to get through to see as much as I could. In addition to covering the grounds, we also saw 4 shows/exhibits. I didn't get to see everything but I think if you split your visit into 2 days, you should be able to cover the place plus it's exhibits in a comfortable timeframe. If you can't read a map then you will find this place a little difficult to navigate. I kept track by drawing on the map as we made our way through the museum. This allows you to use your time efficiently and only covering certain areas once.

Most of the employees have good attitudes here. We did encounter some grumpy folks on our visit which is expected. I enjoyed the enthusiasm portrayed by a woman who conducted a children's tour. It kept the young kids engaged. Gift shops are available throughout the grounds with beautiful overpriced souvenirs. It is very easy to waste money on nick-knack s here.

I highly recommend the Dark Universe Space Show. Not only was it fascinating but the way it is delivered in a super cool superdome added to the experience. It reminded me of the shows you watch in Universal Studios - Orlando, FL. The Pterosaurs Exhibition is geared more towards the younger children. There are many activities and games for them. The Great White Shark IMAX show was okay. It was like watching a movie in a theatre. Nothing too special. It was an interesting film though! The Nature's Fury Exhibition is an interesting walk through with a lot of information. The big, blue, humpback whale and the T-Rex fossil where some of the most beautiful displays.

I would recommend this place to anyone; but come in with a plan to get the most out of your visit!

A must go see when you visit NYC. They have a lot of amazing and educational displays. If you're riding the subway there's a stop that takes you right to the back doors of the museum and right from there you can purchase your tickets. You most definitely need a whole day or a whole morning here. There's a lot to see and explore.

This is a great museum, there's lots of interesting things to see and learn for kids and adults. If you purchase your tickets online you will not have to wait in the entrance, however you may pay more since they charge their suggested cost for a ticket. We waited and purchased our tickets at the entrance and they only charged us for the amount we wanted to donate.

Definitely come here on a Free Days At The Museum day! Or else pay fifty dollars for two people. The museum is so big, it s almost impossible to finish it in a day. Look for your favorite places before you go in, and keep in mind there will already be a line of fifty people waiting for the museum to open twenty minutes before it does. My boyfriend and I had a great time wandering the museum, and especially enjoyed the space and dinosaur section.

This place is fantastic. Go as soon as they open, start on the top floor and work your way down. If the kids are into dinosaurs, they will love that part of the museum. There are a few parts that look a bit dated, but no matter, this is the best museum of it's type in the States.

If you have time, you should also hit the attached Hayden Planetarium as well.

Love a good museum, I don t think I ve ever had the energy to see everything in one day and this was no exception!
I saw dinosaurs a massive bear and watched a space show with a classroom full of kids that screamed every time it went dark.... magic

You will need more than one trip to see everything this museum has to offer. It gets quite busy during the weekend and it is frequently visited by families so if you prefer to look at exhibits in quiet, choose another time.
Some exhibits are interactive and it is fun for young and old alike. Try to space out your visit and come multiple times to get the most out of your museum experience.

A great museum which has exhibitions not only about animals and nature but also ancient human tribes. It has also examples of different cultures such as Georgian, Russian, Mongol, Ottoman, etc.

That Roosevelt statue on a horse in the front of the building with a half nude black man on his left and a Native American Chief on his right looks imperialistic and totally insulting. They should bring it down like those confederate statues.

Excellent museum. Amazing collection of dinosaur bones. Wonderful staff. We had an amazing time, we can't wait to go back.

Pro tip:. The $22 entrance fee is just a suggested price, you can actually pay what you want to get in...we payed $5.

Do not eat at the food court here! Lunch for two was over $60. Absolute rip-off.

The museum itself was average at best. The dinosaur animation quality looked like it was done 20 years ago and the displays for each section were very basic.

It also has maybe two bathrooms in the entire place. Maybe they got rid of some of them to make room for all the gift shops......

Overall, it was a very disappointing visit.

Great place to learn about are life. What came before us?!. There's 4 floors. It's pretty big. Long walk. Took me 5hours to just skim through the museum. But a great place. There's benches so you can take a break from walking around.
