Too much! Too much to do in one day I mean. Great exhibits, so much history, so many animals. I did the general admission plus all ticket and enjoyed every minute. The Oceans IMAX movie was stellar, The Dark Universe show in the planetarium was mind boggling and the butterfly conservatory was incredible. T. Rex was also a superb exhibit. Worth every dime I paid. Great shops and helpful staff. Plan to spend all day or more to appreciate all that is on offer. A gem! Wish I lived closer!

Loved it. Good variety of exhibits, and the scientific information provided is both informative and accessible even without a scientific background.

Remember that if you have an IDNYC you can get a free year of membership.

A truly wonderful museum. They have whole rooms full of dinosaur bones! How cool is that? They have some pretty interesting temporary exhibits as well. I would highly suggest visiting the planaterium while you're here. Note that the planaterium shows are at set times and will sell out, so get your tickets for that in advance. Also note that if you ho to the ticket booth (not the kiosks) you can pay whatever you want to enter. I used to pay 5 bucks all the time when I was poor.

Absolutely loved this place. We entered through the Hayden Planetarium and were astonished at the exhibits, specially the ones about the Big Bang and the rocks. We then found the dinosaur exhibit and went bananas! If possible, also catch one of the shows. We saw the one about Dark Matter narrated by everyone's favorite rockstar scientist, Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Kids fall asleep and the adults stay quiet. Win-win

The national museum of natural history has magnificent exhibitions that hail from all over the world. From dinosaurs to whales to tarantulas - it's definitely guaranteed that the exhibitions will appeal to both the young and the old. I spent an hour here, but that's certainly not enough to savour the wonders that are presented in this place.

One of the best museums I've ever been to! It's more than just natural history, as there are many displays of human art from around the world. There is a great sea life display with a gigantic whale, all preserved taxidermy from long ago. There are displays of animals of all kinds, and models of ancient human empires.

Of course everyone knows its famed Dino bone collection, fossils and casts of the most famous dinosaurs, as well as displays on evolution (I never knew the horse was so closely related to the dolphin!) and other very informative things!

And my favorite part is its "Epcot-Like" Planetarium the Hayden Planetarium, which currently runs a great show starring Neil Degrasse Tyson with the latest tech to show the mysteries of the universe, energy, and it's darkmatter. The big bang show below is not to be missed, especially with its unique screen, and the staircase down showcasing just how short human's existence has been by giving a scaled timeline of the universe (and some scale models of planets and the human brain. Down on the ground, there are actual space rocks you can touch. Yes I touched something from space! There are also model ecosystems, and scales to weigh you on other worlds.

This place is magnificent! You can literally spend days here and not be able to see all that is showcased. Meticulously maintained possessing charm and warm character. Thousands and thousands of interesting items and artifacts within well organized displays. I have been here several times and, each time I visit, my expectations are exceeded! Courteous staff. Easy access from the subway and Central Park. Great fast food at the cafes! Be sure to put this on your To Do list when you visit the fabulous city of New York!!

This is series of first visits to this remarkable museum.
It was a great experience for all of us. We found it very exciting and almost nomadic as we made our way through time and culture. The animal exhibits were particularly interesting as we were taken back by the almost live experience of still art.
One is left to wonder as we trek through Asia and Africa
How did our past ancestors live with in migration and protect their land and food?
Were they worried about diversity or scarcity of meat and grains?
And what really happened to the earth dinosaurs
Are we in a parallel universe?

I go a few times a year for Educator Evenings. If you work in education, I highly recommend these events. They are free, educational, and provide refreshments (along with instructional materials).

Also, if you're local, note that tickets are free and the listed prices are suggestions only.

Impressive museum with an incredible number of exhibits. A foray into the history of the United States - very well illustrated and shown. You actually need a whole day - and even then he probably can't see everything.

This museum is incredible! Loved the fun exhibits and the interactive displays! Its as good as the Smithsonian! The price was very reasonable as you only pay what you can afford and the service was fine too! The museum and the facilities were very clean and again the exhibits were so nicely done! I can't wait to come back and I would say that everyone has to come here!

If you like natural history, then you'll love this place. Very large, you could easily spend a couple of days here. Was very busy when I visited so queues for a lot of stuff but I still managed to book all the special exhibits I wanted, including a fantastic 3D IMAX presentation on national parks and the planetarium show. Canteen wasn't entirely awful either, although it was pricey. Dinosaurs!

Pros:

Pros:
- Cool dinos
- Beautiful entrance

Cons:
- Self-service ticket system malfunctioned
- Hard to find our way around the place and missed better information architecture
- The other guests ruined the experience, people were noisy, ran around and listened to music (? why be there in the first place if you don t immerse yourself?)
- Lousy top floor cafe, AC was way too intense. Both the food and the coffee was just ... why even bother?
- The information about the displayed animals was often very basic

Such a special & wonderful place we are blessed to have in New York. Have been coming here since I was a child and there are rooms that literally bring me back to my childhood. Particularly the halls with the dioramas of people and animals and the giant versions of a forest floor and sliced section of a Redwood tree. Especially though is the view of the Blue Whale hanging from the ceiling when you walk into the great hall. The thrill I get when I see that never wears off no matter how many times I ve been there now with my own kids.

This place disappointed me. You would think such a historic museum that has an entire movie franchise based off of it would be more immersive but it just felt like one giant tourist trap more than a museum. The place is run down, unkempt and dirty. Most of the things on display are just replicas, and the actual artifacts are dusty! Seriously! I saw dust IN the displays! A lot of their information is outdated and politically incorrect or just flat out wrong. And don't even get me started on their employees. Unprofessional, unenthusiastic, and can't answer simple questions. I had the displeasure of having to talk to two of them during my visit and both people were extremely rude and didn't (or couldn't) answer my questions. I guess my hopes we're too high for this place. If you want to go to a good museum, go to Brooklyn. Skip this rip off. This place is reserved for elementary school field trips and tourists.

Just an amazing experience which I would recommend to anyone visiting New York and I would definitely go again. Beautiful, informative exhibits with enough information for kids and adults. The dioramas are like looking back in time, the level of detail and accuracy is just mind blowing. Toilets are all very clean and the staff were all friendly. Good gift shop options what weren't that overpriced either. I think we spent about five hours and we didn't manage to see everything so definitely plan your visit. My favourite section was of course, the dinosaurs :D

An amazing experience for all and a museum full of incredible natural treasures. The beautifully taxidermied animal exhibits are famous and iconic but are only a tiny portion of what this place has to offer. In every exhibit you'll be transported to a totally new time and place where not just kids but everyone will learn something new. I just walked through the museum with no itinerary and after several hours left feeling like i had just begun to see what it had to offer. It definitely lives up to its reputation of being one of the best museums on the planet.

Loved this museum. There was so much to see, I'm not sure if we had the chance to see it all. Definitely something fun and educational for the family. I recommend it. Make sure you wear some comfortable sneakers you will have a lot of ground to cover. When I went, I was able to offer what I wanted to pay for a general ticket with no extra shows. The price they give you is a "suggested" price. I'm not sure if that's an everyday thing now but go check it out..it's worth it!!

Please can someone pat 'Gloria' from security on the back for being so welcoming and amazing on our visit to the museum on the 10th October. She was extraordinarly kind to my elderly father and myself. She did say she loved our English accents so maybe that helped. Please give her a pay rise!

There are too many amazing exhibits and artifacts for me to mention. There is certainly something for everyone. That being said, I think we can all agree that this T-Rex poop is pretty remarkable.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Complete waste of time. Besides some dinosaur bones there are no actual artifacts, just a bunch of taxidermy. Compared to other museums, like the Field in Chicago, this one is VERY lacking!! I preferred walking in the rain to this museum!

This museum is absolutely captivating. You could spend hours in there and still not see everything. From dinosaur skeletons to cave men to the most beautiful geodes you'll ever see and everything in between. I definitely recommend visiting this museum.

The employees and security are rude. Poorly organized. And the employees treat customers like a herd of cows and seem to enjoy yelling at customers. Too bad really bc they have great exhibits. The girls wanted to specifically visit the gems exhibit but they were closed.

I LOVE this museum! It is huge and there is so much to see and do! I allowed myself 6 hours on my visit and was rushing most of the time to get through to see as much as I could. In addition to covering the grounds, we also saw 4 shows/exhibits. I didn't get to see everything but I think if you split your visit into 2 days, you should be able to cover the place plus it's exhibits in a comfortable timeframe. If you can't read a map then you will find this place a little difficult to navigate. I kept track by drawing on the map as we made our way through the museum. This allows you to use your time efficiently and only covering certain areas once.

Most of the employees have good attitudes here. We did encounter some grumpy folks on our visit which is expected. I enjoyed the enthusiasm portrayed by a woman who conducted a children's tour. It kept the young kids engaged. Gift shops are available throughout the grounds with beautiful overpriced souvenirs. It is very easy to waste money on nick-knack s here.

I highly recommend the Dark Universe Space Show. Not only was it fascinating but the way it is delivered in a super cool superdome added to the experience. It reminded me of the shows you watch in Universal Studios - Orlando, FL. The Pterosaurs Exhibition is geared more towards the younger children. There are many activities and games for them. The Great White Shark IMAX show was okay. It was like watching a movie in a theatre. Nothing too special. It was an interesting film though! The Nature's Fury Exhibition is an interesting walk through with a lot of information. The big, blue, humpback whale and the T-Rex fossil where some of the most beautiful displays.

I would recommend this place to anyone; but come in with a plan to get the most out of your visit!

The museum itself is unbelievable. You could easily spend 4 or 5 hours here. Excellent! Things I didn't like was that there was way too many people. Air-conditioning was not unigorm throughout the building making some places better than others. I paid $30 which was $10 per adult and $5 each for kids which I think is fair. I don't ever want to short change a museum but with the amount of people, this place should have money like crazy.

Really informative and exciting place, you can easily spend a whole day here. There are soooo many exhibits to see, they put in a lot of effort and it shows. I loved their ocean life exhibit- you cannot go back home if you don t see the giant blue whale structure! There s a cafe and a museum shop too. L

Ticket experience is horrible. You have to do a long queue if you have citypass or you want to pay what you want. The first one is incompetence and the second one is to get more money.
The metropolitan did this right and almost all the other sites as well.

Best to go during the week and not weekend. Tickets are what you want to donate if you stand in line or just pay full price and order online ahead of time. Bathrooms need some work. Maps are confusing in the brochure so plan on getting lost. The website is not accurate about the timeline it takes to go through the museum. It's a whole day affair and the extra $ exhibits may require a second visit. Bring a jacket if you get cold easily. A lot of great places to eat nearby within a block or two of the museum also.

Loved the Hayden Planetarium and science exhibits! The dinos were cool as well. Although the natural history part could use some updating, it is still an amazing display.

I have to echo the bathroom comment though. I would have given this place 5 stars were it not for the lack of signage for the bathrooms. Its also fairly irritating that none of the security guards could properly direct me to one.

It's a master piece of attractions in NYC and tour usually takes about 4-5 hours to visit each gallery and absorb a lot of information from around the world.

Very useful and interesting place, and on other hand it's very tiring too especially for families with kids.

Really interesting museum covering a large range of topics. Some of the exhibits on different cultures are a little outdated/tell a colonists perspective however for the most part an informative and beautiful museum. There are a couple of different cafes but all pretty over priced I would bring your own snacks.

A Sunday afternoon at the museum with the kiddos was a brand new experience with covid and all there are sanitizer stations literally like everywhere and also they take you temperature right before coming in. For those that don t know New York residents get to basically donate what they choose to enter at general admission doesn t include special galleries (I guess you would say ) but totally fine since you have an entire museum to explore some of the stations were closed but we made the best of what was available.. we mostly went for the dinosaurs

As soon as you enter the building you will be impressed. So many fascinating exhibits and artifacts. The layout can be confusing so definitely grab a map or download their app. We did the deep space planetarium exhibit and it was interesting and very immersive. You can spend a weekend here and still have things to do. Definitely a must visit muesam when in NYC.
