I wasn t overly impressed. Normally, I love museums, but I didn t find anything spectacular here. Perhaps, it s because I live in the city of the Royal Ontario Museum which is far more impressive.

They allow you to pay what you can afford which I quite liked, especially as it allows for young crowds to access.

If you re going to be in NYC for a while or you ve visited before and this is the last thing to do, why not. Museum time is not wasted time...however if you re trying to crunch in as much as possible, leave this place out and visit the MET instead.

The location is great and if you re still planning on visiting, regardless of my lukewarm review, make sure to add Central Park to your day.

One of the most immersive museums in existence. The Hayden Planetarium is an excellent edition and their star show is to die for. Any and every exhibit you visit offers a world of wonder.

Protip: NYCID offers free memberships to this museum.

One of a kind experience that was beyond extraordinary. It's like my experience at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey: nothing wrong with it. I want to go again one day when COVID-19 passes by (probably in 2 years) and relive the experience of this amazing museum. Overall review: 5/5 stars.

Awesome museum! It s massive and so many diff exhibits- i kept on thinking that I d seen it all but then there was even more to see! The exhibit for the oceans was really nice . When I went the lines to get in were quite long - idk if it s usually like that. You ll want to save a few hours for this museum as there is so much to see. Can be a little hard to find one s way around, but the employees were very friendly and helpful, and I believe they have an app as well to give turn by turn directions . All in all - a great place for those interested in natural history, and even somewhat great for those who are not as into such things

Great experience. We had booked tickets online way in advance for Thursday but as it snowed Wednesday it ruined our Wednesday plans - we went to the museum to enquire if we could use our tickets a day early and they let us. We had an amazing time and the exhibitions are incredible! The light boxes with taxidermy sets of animals were my favorite and of course the dinosaurs. Incredible experience, couldn't recommend enough.

Visited the museum today and aside from enjoying the usual exhibits we went to see the exhibit of colors. This exhibit is so much fun especially for the little ones. It is an interactive exhibit. Don't be held back by the pandemic. The museum has absolutely made sure that they follow all protocols to keep everyone safe.

Such a fun place to come to over and over again. My kids are 2 and 4 and they love exploring every floor and exhibit. My 4 year old especially loves the Big Bang theater and all the dinosaurs on the 4th floor.

A great museum you will see many kinds of things. With good location close the central park, you can find a different amazing world.

From land to sea, from deep to sky, here is a natural created species park, you can spend half day to look, listen, and feel.

Recommend this wonderful museum.

I've loved this place since I was a kid and now that I am a creative and seeking solace in this crazy time and sources of inspiration I've found this to be a perfect place to reflect and remember and inspire.

AMNH is one of the best place to take your children who are curious about science! It was definitely one of my favorite place to go as a kid. It was awesome! Definitely a must see in NYC!! Very fun.

The AMNH is such an exciting, awe-inspiring, dynamic museum, so it's no wonder why it gets such high reviews! From the Hayden Planetarium, to the dinosaurs to the special exhibits, there's a lot to see so it's best to pace yourself. If you want to avoid the big family crowds, it's best to go during the week or on a rainy day. The food offerings at the cafes are decent, but can be a bit pricey. If you have the time/flexibility, opt for lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants on the UWS.

Well, I have to say that I am satisfied just by visiting the 4th floor. So incredible to see all of these fossils in display, the amount of information, sure your mind will go back in time when the dinosaurs roamed earth.

Loved the Hayden Planetarium and science exhibits! The dinos were cool as well. Although the natural history part could use some updating, it is still an amazing display.

I have to echo the bathroom comment though. I would have given this place 5 stars were it not for the lack of signage for the bathrooms. Its also fairly irritating that none of the security guards could properly direct me to one.

What a great and interesting place to visit. Went early so crowds not too large. The cafe has fresh foods and is a nice place to take a break. Museum personnel kept everyone moving and were very helpful. All places kept real clean and pleasant.

Absolutely a marvel of science and nature on New York. By far my favourite attraction I went to. While there are many kids... remember they are budding scientists and everyone deserves to be exposed to this wonderful experience!

they got amazing collection of fossils. you can spend the whole day there and won't be able to see everything. make sure you do a little research before you go in, or you can just visit multiple times.

I had to wait in line to buy my ticket-- which is awesome because it means lots of people are visiting this magnificent museum! The AMNH takes us back to an era of exploration, discovery, scientific literacy, and reverence for the natural world. There is so much to see and learn, I don't think it can be appreciated in a single day. Dinosaur halls are of course a favourite, along with Biodiversity, and Marine Life. Diorama exhibits are beautifully assembled, though I wish there were more extensive/detailed information about each. One critique: some of the dioramas are very poorly lit -- maybe purposeful, but if so the reasons are unclear. I also particularly enjoyed the exhibit dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt and his extensive conservation efforts; a message and mission our nation would do well to remember and heed.

All staff friendly and helpful! I hope to visit again soon!

I enjoyed the fact that I only paid a donation for entrance because I am an NYC resident. The Museum is enormous, and you must visit several times to view all the exhibits. The cultural section is one of my favorite.

My family and I spent an hour traveling uptown to see the museum to find they were having a Halloween event and every exhibit was closed. There was zero communication on their website or phone to indicate this would be happening. The museum was also under construction and all but one entrance was opened, again with no information to guide you to the entrance. We were very disappointed to miss the museum and frustrated at the disorganization.

This is a land of discovery and for those that love nature whether that means microorganisms, animals, fish, history, trees, dinosaurs... There's something new to learn every time you go. You can get lost in exhibits for hours. Fantastic place for all ages, for field trips, for exposure trips for service dogs, for sitting under a to-scale model of a blue whale. Spend a few hours here or the entire day! Entire week! Unfortunately, it does close pretty early in the evening and you are ushered out by closing.

I love the museum, but it is really crowded, especially on weekends. The planetarium is visually compelling, but I did not learn much, other than the universe is huge. Go for the dinosaurs and the amazing rock collection. It is also neat to see how much you would weigh on different planets like Jupiter! It is worth the trip, but give yourself plenty of time and expect to be bumped into by children (young and old) getting their learn on!

For a suggested admission museum (where you basically choose how much you want to pay to get in), you can't really complain.
However we found the museum not as interesting as we thought it would be. There does not seem to be a lot of real stuff (a lot of plastic animals, etc...) and the layout is confusing.
If you have plenty of time, then it is nice to visit the museum. If you have to make a choice because you are tight for time, for example, then go elsewhere.

I opted for the VIP privet tour. This is an hour before they open and comes with tickets to see all the special things inside. I highly recommend it. The tour guild Debbie was amazing and knew so much cool stuff.

Superb. An incredible mix of all sorts of wonderful exhibits and shows. The venue is cavernous and you could spend days just walking around and to totally explore could take much longer. I highly recommend the Dark Universe in the Hayden Planetarium. It introduces you to one of the biggest mysteries in modern physics, dark matter and dark energy.

I am quite amazed at the efficiency, patience, and kindness of the staff: wish there were more, of course, but enough members of the staff have gone out of their way to be helpful when a small child needed help so that I have to post public thanks.

The exhibits were amazing. The fossils/skeletons were very interesting and were from almost every animal imaginable. The taxidermy was very good for the most part with few animals looking unnatural. The history exhibits were very interesting. I rather enjoyed that some of the signs talked about what the speculation for the current beliefs about the various exhibits (e.g. if dinosaurs were warm-blooded or not) rather than just stating the prevaling theory as fact.

The ticket price was very reasonable for the time that we spent there. We arrived around 11 a.m. and stayed until just a little before closing at 5:45 p.m. All in all a very good museum and worth the money (and this is coming from someone raised on the free and excellent Smithsonian Museums in DC).

Although the museum itself is quite nice. Everything itself around it is very overpriced and misleading. The entry 'fee' is a suggestion, officially giving you freedom in how much you want to spend, but they press on the suggestion. Also the food court is ridiculously overpriced for what you are getting. The staff also mostly shows little to no interest in satisfying the visitors, except for pointing out on exhibitions that cost extra.

Do yourself a favor and pay a small fee only, and donate some extra afterwards if you appreciated the visit.

Would of given this experience a five stars until my family and I saw a mouse walking into the cafeteria .All the other add ons you pay for were very fun and intriguing . Great time to spend with family even on a rainy day . The mouse was not apart of the 4D experience it was just walking around like it worked at the exhibit. My poor mother was terrified I need to speak to someone about this unfortunate event.

A must see on your NYC trip, as far as museums go, this one has it all. Dinosaurs, ancient cultures, a display for animals and peoples of every continent. And also the admission is a "suggested price". Which means you can suggest to not pay anything if you wish. Everything you do pay for admission is a donation to the museum which I recommend contributing in order to keep this amazing place running.

An amazing place with lots of expositions. The dinosaurs' section is one of the most impressives, including the T-Rex and the Titanosaurus. You can buy the tickets online and avoid the line, make sure to select at least one of the special expositions (you can also buy tickets for special expos separately) you will not regret it. A must visit when in Manhattan.

Stunning museum. I knew it from the movies and that makes it extra special.
The display of the animals is very well done.
I really enjoyed the use of Google maps in the museum. They also have an app that explains a lot about the museum and has a map included.
Overall very nice and educative.

Huge collection of natural History artifacts. Highlights include all kinds of fossils and Bones from dinosaurs to ancient mammals to fish. Many of these are huge and complete and they really give you a sense of how big these creatures were. Also their exhibits on marine life including a life size whale are very impressive. They have lots of gems. Are planetarium is very good also.

Love, love this place. Did the yearly membership with City Pass ID (IDCNY). Saw the butterflies exhibition and it was a great experience, although very warm, wasn't ready for that. You'll sweat but the experience is unique. Will take advantage of the yearly membership and go there frequently.

This is actually a really good museum! Its next to Central Park and the exhibits are worth paying for. It is easy to navigate with the map and full of information. You learn just visiting! I would definitely come back one day and tour this museum again.

I just have to say that this was one of the most amazing experiences ive had in my entire life! I really enjoyed the whole experience. I wanted to come to this place since long time ago when I saw the movie and believe me that the experience is way more cool. I would definitely recommend to explore the place in 1 whole day its not enough but you can try and dont forget to go to the main shows. The universe movie was the best. Super recommended to go and enjoy with family or even alone.

If you are interested in science, this is the place to be. You can't cover full place in one day. There is lot of interesting information. The detailed tour of this place has more knowledge than any science course. Must for school kids, but go prepared with background information on things on display if you want them to learn them. Accompany them and help them understand things.

One of my favorite museum in NYC. You can enjoy every piece of animal and plant by age and places. Especially dinosaur lovers like children, this place will be more than called educational. Yes, I am not the art lover, but if you like animals (especially dinosaur) have to visit here.

Wow, so many different sections, and the scale of the exhibits are something else. Really enjoyed the mix of visuals (the different rooms are visually stunning) and educational tidbits (from informational plaques to Earth sphere video. Learned a lot and saw a lot, loved it!

Wonderful place to spend hours and really have a good time with the family. Get there early as the lines can get long. The cost is based on you, they give suggestions on how much to spend, but don t question you or give you a guilt trip if you give less. Spend the time on each floor and really enjoy all that this place offers
