The place is enormously huge consisting of 29 buildings which has been consolidated since 1869. It has the rich history and fun place to be in.

There is a spacw show for every 30mins, which is average by information, if you know about dark energy and dark matter.

There are highlight tours every hr which last for 75mins which is good if you want to start somewhere in the enormously huge place.

Yes, the museum is impressive, but my experience of it was awful. I went with juat over an hour and a half for the visit, wanting to see the Planetarium show as I hadn't seen one before in my life. I was told the show would start at 16.30, so I should head there at 16.20, which I did. At 16.45, after 25 minutes of sitting in the theater, we are told the show will be merged with the 17.00 show, as they had run late on the 16.30 due to some technical issues. At this point, I either had the choice of waiting a total of 40 minutes to watch a 30-minute show, or leave after having wasted the very precious time I had. I felt very disrespected and ended up leaving without seeing anything else in the museum just because I was thrown off by the experience. Such a disappointment!

I think I never saw such a terrific collection of history and preparations before . Super children friendly and fazinating for everyone. They have at least 5 diffrent exhibitions. You make a donation to enter the museum. So it's up to you how much it is worth to keep this amazing place.

I bought a membership through Groupon last year and though I only went a handful of times, the investment was well worth it. The exhibits are always excellent, both permanent and rotating. The spaces are well-designed to make learning fun and interesting.

What an amazing museum this was, I would go back hundreds of times just to walk around it, it has so much stuff that I don't even think it's possible to truly look at everything in a day. So many exhibitions to see, the statues are super high quality and realistic too. Great for families

A truly wonderful museum. They have whole rooms full of dinosaur bones! How cool is that? They have some pretty interesting temporary exhibits as well. I would highly suggest visiting the planaterium while you're here. Note that the planaterium shows are at set times and will sell out, so get your tickets for that in advance. Also note that if you ho to the ticket booth (not the kiosks) you can pay whatever you want to enter. I used to pay 5 bucks all the time when I was poor.

Too busy, insufficient staff on duty on the busiest of weekends, queued for an hour to get in as no distinction between online and buying tickets on the day. Not enough food outlets or toilets. Exhibits were great but too many people to be able to see them!

The American Museum of Natural History is the best of its kind in the world. I have visited it ten years ago and still remember it as if it only happened yesterday. You can spend an entire day discovering interesting facts about our planet and life on it. The building's architecture is particularly elegant. A visit is mandatory if you come to New York City for the first time.

Good place to spend a day, or two, or a week! There's a lot to see, and if you want to see it all you'll be there a long time. My personal favorite was the immersive short movie, which I believe was called Dark Universe? Had a lovely time exploring. They close early though (by NYC standards), so make sure to check their hours before visiting. I guess I'm used to most things being open until 8 or 9 PM.

Awesome muesum, but alot of rude staff...mostly security playing rent a cop taking out childhood issues on people just trying to have a nice time, and the food was more expensive then an air port and was about as good as Martha Stewart's cooking in prison...that may be an over statement.

The museum is a wonderful place for children and adults. There are many interactive exhibits and interesting displays unlike anywhere else. With each display the is a detailed description so you always learn about what you're looking at. The staff is friendly and polite.

Fantastic experience. Get there at opening, head to the top floor and work your way back to beat the crowds and hordes of school parties. Staff surly and gave the impression they hated the place and everything in it.

A place you see in the movies growing up! Bringing kids here will spark their imagination and interests in science and biology. It s cool to see the animals in their natural habitats. I understand only the local American animals are taxidermied, if that even. I wonder how many of the fossils were made to fill in the blanks.

Building needs some repairs and updates. It s a lot of walking around of course. Technology could also use updates for the interactive exhibits.

It s something to do in New York, but maybe not my favorite thing.

Wonderful place not only for nature lovers. There's a fantastic collection of fossils, and of course small, medium and large animals.
Plan ahead for a whole day if you want to see "everything" this museum has to offer.

First time visit to this historic museum, and had a great time. There is a ton to see and do here. Plan to spend at least 3 hours, but ideally more. We did the basic admission, which was more than enough. The exhibits are in very good condition, and you get a sense of classic displays that have been well maintained. It s a good idea to start at the fourth floor, and work your way down. The rooms are impressive, especially the entry hall with the dinosaurs and the ocean exhibit with literally a giant whale suspended from the ceiling. This is an affordable gem for anyone who likes museums and history. Definitely recommend going.

I absolutely love the museum itself, the exhibits are wonderful and a load of fun! There is one thing here that you should definitely avoid, that being the food court! DAMN that food court is absolutely horrible! If you want a good sized mean it'll set you back like 30 to 40 dollars! And if your dumb, hungry, or rich enough to get some food you will be disappointed to find out that the food you spent all that money on tastes like a ground up horse testicle!!! Its not good at all!!! Oh yeah and if you can't afford he food they just strait up toss it in the trash! Like yeah the food tastes like garbage, but it's still food! So yeah, I 100% recommended you visit the museum, just stay away from the food court!!!!

Amazing collection of artifacts and preserved animals, please note that if you purchase tickets from the counter you can pay any amount you want for the general admission tickets instead of the full amount. Each floor has an abundance of collections to last at least 3 - 5 hours per floor. The mineral exhibit located in the first floor is closed until fall of 2019.

we ate at the cafe one in the museum. ..after spending $16 on one turkey wrap and a vitamin water I sit down and eat...the food was atrocious the wrap tasted like it sat in the fridge for 3 years before they gave it to me for such expensive food you would think it would be delicious

My visit in the museum was absolutely a wonderful experience. I went to see the fossils exhibition specifically and it was breathtaking. It's a perfect place both for adults and children.

Always loved going here every since I was 5.There a lot of things to see that it would feel like it's can't be done in a day.Workers there should be trained more though as I was trying to find the Spiders live exhibit, was told this way and downbeat.Up and down to a point felt like was going in circles.I recommend defiantly to see the spiders live as there are live actual spiders that u can see like The black widow. The women who spoke about spiders gave a great explanation and kept everyone in the audience very interested. The Big Bang I also suggest to see.
better to go early before the mesum opens as it tends to get pretty crowded in the afternoon.

Absolutely huge building there is so much to see when your here. It's wheelchair and pushchair friendly. It was very busy when we arrived here and were in the building until it closed. Plan to spend the day here. There's such a huge range of things to see you can get lost in the building. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's not been before

Spectacular museum! Our family enjoyed every moment we spent here, you could spend the entire day and still not fully appreciate every exhibit. We purchased tickets that included the special exhibitions and we are so glad we did. They were so worth the time to experience. My youngest, 7, had a blast in the T-Rex exhibit, it was wonderful and he could ve spent the entire day there if we let him. My older son enjoyed the VR feature, I can t say enough good things about the entire museum. My personal favorite exhibit was the Ocean room, the giant blue whale is just breathtaking in size.

One thing that families should know, they have a cafe there fully stocked with lots of food options so don t worry about being there all day, you can stay inside and enjoy a meal. Their service is also stellar. Very helpful, patient and kind to tourists like us. Thank you all :)

Next time we visit NYC, we will 100% come back.

You will need to spend many hours in here its that massive. But its not like the night of the museum. So much to see and read up on. well worth spending time here if its a rainy day. could be signed up better but your free to explore at your own pace and direction.

Im very disappointed!

Paper plates, plastic utensils, dry and overpriced food.

How can such an incredible museum in the middle of New York serve this terrible, dry and overpriced food?!? 12 dollars for this plate of food which... (4 dollars per 1/4 pound of food)

The museum is educating people to take care of the environment while in their own restaurant is only serving food on paper plates, plastic knives and forks! How could this be!?!

At least, I challenge you to implement a restaurant free of plastic and paper stuff!

Wonderful museum, but I had to leave this last time because of how insanely crowded it was. During the pandemic. No social distancing at all possible, plenty of kids without masks. I'm really not sure what the point of timed entry is if there's no enforcement of any safety protocols.

Being here brought me back to my childhood of visiting the museum and Central Park. So much to see. Only complaint is the misleading signs on food in cafeteria. Who posts for 1/4 lb? At a salad bar... Seriously???

I'm changing my review to 0 star because your museum is holding live crocodiles hostage in tiny glass tanks.
I 'm fan of museum but I do not tolerate American Museum of Natural History for holding live crocodile exhibit because it could be endager to your customers.
Crocodiles will have power to break your glass and it could possibly escaped and sent panic through out museums and children will be terrified to see real crocodiles and will not visit your museum anymore.
It properly only zoo keeper and wildlife rescue is only one could handle escaped crocodile, but if that crocodile came from zoo, ask zoo to retired crocodiles to vegan sanctuaries where crocodiles will be taken care off.
Please shut down crocodile exhibit.
If you cannot, please make sure to give plenty of water and foods.
Until crocodiles are gone from your museum, I will not give you 5 star.

The museum is huge as most people know. There was an extremely long line when we arrived. The security was instructing people to turn the corner And head to the other entrance since that entrance had no line if they didn't but Very few people left the line. I was glad I was one of those people that laughed because a second entrance had no line and we entered the museum without any problems or waiting time. It was just nice to see statues and fossils and learn about the body and African animals and explore the different exhibits.. The weather was cold and I had friends from out of town so this was a great opportunity to learn, take pictures and have some educational fun.
It was crowded with families and kids but still it was a good time.

I went to AMNH with my wife and 10yo son. After about an hour of looking at fossils, my son was more than done. There are hours and hours of bones and it can be redundant and boring after a while. I get it, millions of years of history but it was a lot for a kid to endure.

There were some other really cool exhibits that we rushed through since we spent so much time looking at fossils. I wish we would have cut the fossil viewing shorter or spaced it out with some of the other (Native American artifacts, animals of the world, etc.) exhibits. I would definitely go back but I would be more strategic and better prepared if I go back with my son.

Immediately upon entering the museum exhibits, both my friend and I were shocked at how out-dated and non-engaging the entire museum felt, not to mention even finding some typos in the description of plant cells. It's really a shame that such a big museum in the heart of Manhattan - surrounded by world class institutions on both sides, appears to be so neglected. This should be a towering achievement of scientific communication to the greater public, both those with degrees in the sciences, and those without. The information provided in the exhibits was elementary and often unnecessarily simplistic. I know this is a museum of natural history, but that doesn't mean the museum itself needs to feel historical. There was no engagement, no incorporation of technology to make these exhibits anything more than static, faded shells of what could be the inspiration for a child to want to pursue a career in science, or at least to appreciate the natural world. I hope this review makes its way to decision makers and funders who can rectify this cultural stain.

This place was the biggest surprise of my trip to New York. I went first to the planetarium and watched the Neil DeGrasse Tyson movie. It was informative yet entertaining. I wish the seats had reclined just a little more. After exiting the planetarium, my group thought about what to do next. We headed up to the dinosaur exhibit and from there we were just blown away. I know I didn't expect to see the T-Rex or how large an Apatosaurus was. From there, we saw all sorts of prehistoric beasts as well as many of the exhibits on the history of humanity. Sure, I didn't like every single thing, but to be surrounded by all the human and non-human history was just mind blowing. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good time in New York, and especially to anyone that might be skeptical about seeing it.

I loved the museum! The only problem is that I didn't know the admission was free and the admissions guy never mentioned that I didn't have to pay anything and told me it was $17. Other than that it's a nice place.

What a great museum. It has a thorough selection of exhibits from all over the world and from all times in history.

I was able to learn about humanity, animals, dinosaurs-pretty much everything.

It was busy but not too crowded, even for a Sunday, and is in a great location. I was able to explore Central Park beforehand, and grab a great lunch afterwards.

Great museum.
