AMNH is a world class museum offering many exhibits exploring the history of humans and animals from around the globe. In addition to these exhibits, the museum offers a great space center and show at the Hayden Planetarium.

Be prepared to spend the entire day here to see everything.

Great museum on the history of nature. A large part of the museum consists of (beautiful) dioramas. We were treated kind of rude by the security people outside. Getting inside with a child in a stroller is not easy due to the stairs and should be improved. Be sure to buy a ticket at the ticket booths in the main hall to be able to give less than the suggested price.

Our favorite museum in the city, we love to go and explore, learn new facts about animals and go to the discovery room. The last time we were there, we looked at a human brain under a microscope. It was AWESOME!!!

Visitors from the U.K great way to spend the morning "just like the movie" haha
Spoke to a lovely lady on security called gloria who got us into the dinosaur exhibit
Everything is clean and tidy
Busy but lots of room for everyone
Only downfall was the lower half of the ocean room was closed off.. not sure why

Still loved it :)

This is a museum very much in the old style. Show and Tell - pretty much all static displays in cabinets. Very little interactive displays. This format will probably appeal to okder kids more.

Not withstanding the above, the sheer quantity if exhibits makes this a must do

The Dinosaurs display is magnificent and will keep little dinosaur hunters happy for hours.

The rudest staff I have ever encountered. Disrespectful to people and unhelpful in general. Elevator assistant yelled at us for trying to take the elevator with a stroller. I love everything here, but the staff needs training. Disappointed in the lack of respect.

face it, if youre from NY you've been here multiple times, whether on childhood field trips or dates (hubba hubba). I would live here if I could, perfect for the nerd or scholar in you and a date here will surely end in good conversation to say the least. The planetarium is awesome this is def a must hit NY landmark.

Horribly expensive. Taste of the food for the price you pay isn't worth it. Soda fountain was out of soda. Staff was friendly. Here what you get is convenience food. I advice anyone to pack food and go to the museum.

Legendary museum, one of the best in the world. Try to go on a weekday when it's less crowded. Give yourself the better part of a day, but don't expect to see all of it at once (you can spend a day in the Egyptian section alone). It will likely be crowded and full of tourists, but worth it for the stunning collections and/or special exhibits you can see here.

The Human Beyond MARS Exhibition had special event tickets not sold at the entrance to the exhibit and not available if you didn't buy a ticket at the entrance before 5pm. I bought a ticket to enter before 5pm because I was visiting specifically for that event. This exhibit which was advertised DT in the subway..

This is one of the best places to take kids in New York. There are a lot of hands on displays and so much to learn! It never felt crowded and makes science and history exciting. We had a great time and the kids got a break from the crowds. Bonus: a fun movie is based on the displays coming alive!

The four-story-tall planetarium sphere hosts the show Journey to the Stars, narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, about the lives and deaths of stars. I was indeed blown away by this earth-shaking film. Stick around for the IMAX film.

Guided Tours at the AMNH make it all the more interesting with depth. For Museum buffs like me, of recommend buying the AMNH Annual Card and make the most of its validity over a year. Weekday parking is @$13 for an all day pass at the AMNH's parking lot. And there's a "Saravana Bhavan" round the corner of Amsterdam St.! ,

if we know the past we know our present and our future knows about the ancestors about the culture about everything that happened in the past is something very nice the truth is that the price is economical but you can ask payment you want it is safe clean is quiet but there that go with time accompanied or alone are worth it

Anyone who has done some traveling, and seen the Natural History Museums in the UK, Aus, or... anywhere will be thoroughly disappointed with this outdated and tired museum. Underwhelming attractions, out of date technology, and incompetent/rude staff really soured an otherwise lovely day. Do yourself a favor and skip it, go to the MET, MOMA, or the Guggenheim.

Absolutely fantastic museum. One of if not the best one I've ever been to. Definitely take time to visit it if you visiting New York. We spent the whole day there and still probably didn't see everything. It has everything from dinosaur bones to Easter Island heads. It works on a pay what you want basis, however, some attractions such as planetarium, requires full price to be paid, plus some extra. It was definitely a very enjoyable visit and I would definitely come back if I am in the city again.

Beautiful museum, worth a visit, with terrible management. First, attendants outside yell at people who ask information. Second, people with tickets and passes cue with the others for bag check . The check is nonexistent; plus, the rest of the museum in the world manages different cues for those who have pass and tickets. It s pretty simple and I don t think this particular museum lacks space or personnel. It lacks wit, management and customer care though. Third, we redeemed ticket and we were not even noticed that we had the 3d show included. Or got any info on time or position of this show by the four (4) people who were in charge of my one (1) ticket. Fourth, direction indication in the museum are non-existent. Only maps, with some wrong indication on toilets. I suggest the managers to go and take a look at other museums, Toronto Natural History for instance; they may learn something on how a well organized museum should be.

Always one of my favourites! The museum is so well organised, the paths are clear, the content mesmerising. Truly a place where you could spend hours without ever getting bored. I recommend allocating at least a 2-3 hours to visit. Its position on the outskirts of the park also make walking to it very pleasant!

Great museum. I am a student so I don't have to pay. The line to wait outside was pretty long but I moves pretty fast.

The exhibits are really interesting. But it's the type of museum that you go to once and don't come back for another 5 or so years because the exhibits don't change that often.
If the planetarium is open, I would recommend going even if it's more expensive tickets.

You have to get tickets beforehand if you want to go inside.

Incredible place with so much history to explore. Worth the ticket price. My recommendation is have a plan when you enter the building and keep a map on hand. It's too big of a place not to have a route in mind. Seems like there's a lot of opportunities to add interactive displays in many of the exhibits as well.

Historically, astronomically spectacular, museum in our Milky Way Galaxy. Unsure, about the Andromeda Galaxy, never visited, but on my bucket list for some day.
However, if you do visit this museum.
Please, no riding is allowed on the Patagotitan Mayorum. Also absolutely, No feeding of the dinosaurs, but they do love milkbones & carrots. Do love/please like

The exhibits were wonderful, as expected of a ranked world-class museum. However, areas such as the larger exhibit rooms needed some audience flow & traffic control implemented. Some of the smaller cafes and restrooms needed TLC, i.e., plastic covering over the ceiling tile in the stalls. The main cafeteria was A-free-for-all with no order, something that needs to be managed much better in the Museum's physical layout. I believe this has produced a cause-and-effect and explains why some of the Museum staff have a negative attitude towards the patrons; I witnessed firsthand several staff being very short and impatient in their remarks toward patrons.

Today was my first time to explore this museum, it s soooo interesting and there are so many things to do. Definitely make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy it, you will need at least 3-4 hours to really enjoy yourself and immerse in all the exhibits. I love that you can just hop off the train and walk right into the museum. I can t wait to go back and explore some more

Have been fascinated with this place since school trips. Amazing special exhibits as well as great permanent exhibits. They have a great array of public events and things to do year round.

You can spend the entire day in this beautiful museum. It's HUGE....So much to see and so much history. It is packed, lots of tourists like myself. I have been here when i was younger and it does bring out the child in me. This is definitely a place to bring out of town guest and family visiting NYC. There are a few cafes at location and if i can remember has four levels. So if you plan to go, be prepared to be entertained with rich history of our past.

One of my favorite museum in NYC. You can enjoy every piece of animal and plant by age and places. Especially dinosaur lovers like children, this place will be more than called educational. Yes, I am not the art lover, but if you like animals (especially dinosaur) have to visit here.

We have not encountered not one employee of the museum who was courteous polite. In the cafe we spent $64 for a family of 4 and then wandered around for 5 mins looking for a place to eat while there were two sections of the seating area closed off to customers for no reason at all. In fact 2 employees were seated having their lunch and we were turned away. It wasn't until I called the manager over that the barrier was removed. On top of that the food was awful and everything including the trays counters and floors were dirty. The next rude encounter was at the planetarium to watch deep space when an employee responded to my husband "I just need you to answer my question." When he was trying to explain that he didn't want to stand for the photos. The line to enter the museum in general was way long and we had to listen to the cashier yell at the customers to step up. In general we had a terrible experience given all the rude employees, subpar cafe, and the costs of admission and food.

I ve been to this museum twice in 14 years, it is well worth the visit. The displays are amazing. You ll need plenty of time to take it all in. The wait time in line was 10 mins and the line was moving fast.

Absolutely amazing museum. I was in awe when I first stepped inside and saw the dinosaur skeletons. That was my favorite exhibit, but they had more than a handful of other, exciting exhibits. In fact, they had literally everything you could think of on display. Turns out, the past million years of history cover just about everything haha.

The museum is huge in its scale. It has ceilings that feel hundreds of feet high, and the building itself is beautifully designed. There are pieces of history ranging from the ancient Aztecs to sea creatures, and it's all artfully packed into every nook and cranny of this building. They have a nice cafe and gift shop as well.

This is a MUST come to museum if you are in NYC. It's also free! Don't get tricked into paying the suggested price :).

This exhibit is large and takes a long time to see everything. We did not have the time to see everything. The show Dark Universe is a unique experience but the video itself is focused on the Big Bang and less videos of stars or planets which is what we thought it would be. A little disappointed and if the Big Bang doesn t interest you I would go with one of the ocean films.

The line is always long as hell, but it was such an amazing experience, you would really want to take your time and enjoy the cool stuff they got in there! The rock & minerals, they got shows, human made settings and animals, ancient history, hunting and gathering stuff. They basically have things you should've already learned in elementary school, check it out!

The museum that was made famous by Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum. As with most Natural History museums across the country, there's a ton of science stuff inside this museum. There is an especially large collection of animals exhibits (including human civilizations) at this museum. My favorite is the Hayden Planetarium that runs a show every 30 minutes. Overall, the museum has less science and technology compared to some of the other Natural History museums, but has some of the best animal displays. Depending on your time availability, the general admission + all is probably the best ticket to get for this museum since you WILL be very tempted to do the extra stuff.

As museums go, the place was big, but seriously dated. Perhaps my perspective is affected by my recent visits to the museums in DC. So many exhibits were fabricated scenery. There were so many things, animals and stones that were fabricated that I quickly lost interest. Granted, not everything was fake, but so much of it was that I got to the point that I assumed things were fake unless it could sufficiently prove to me otherwise. I want to see real stuff like in the Smithsonian. Maybe pre-internet this would have been fascinating but not now. Navigating this museum is like a maze. My group walked around the first floor several times trying to find the way to the upper levels because paths are not clearly marked. To make matters worse, the gem exhibit was closed, the part that I was most eager to see.

A large array of exhibits. Enjoyable for all ages. Great for groups too. You can also "pay what you want" for the admission fee so there is no need to feel deterred if you cannot afford to pay full price. You will need to spend at least 2 hours here if not more to see everything. There are permanent and temporary exhibits. I believe the temporary exhibit was an additional charge.

A true chaos. Too crowded, not well organized, staff really rude and unhelpful, toilets dirty and hard to find. Too old and poor preserved facilities. Definitely not a family friendly museum.

A wonderful museum, with lots of exhibitions and halls. It's usually crowded, and if you are just gonna walk around the regular areas (not specific temporary exhibitions), you can pay what you think as a "donation " instead of paying the full cover ($23 for adults). Be prepared to walk a lot, although there are a lot of resting benches. Definitely going back soon ... too much to learn!

I attended the butterfly exhibit two years ago and found it to be impressive and engaging. I just attended the updated exhibit and found it to be even better! They have a larger selection of species and a greater density of butterflies. Additionally, the staff is very informative and helpful.

This is by far my favorite museum in the city, From the beauty of the Hayden Planetarium, to the historic dioramas throughout, this is a great place to go to see some incredible scientific exhibitions, Admission is suggested, so you can pay whatever you;d like to get in.

The museum itself is a fantastic place to visit. Tip: If you're on a tight schedule pick up a map and hit up your must see areas and skip the rest. You could spend hrs. Inside. Would have been a 5 star rating if it weren't for the nasty bathrooms. A lot of the toilets seemed to not be working the day we were there so they had been used multiple times without being able to flush. Disgusting!

Waste of time. Worst museum of natural history I have visited. The museum of natural history in the third world ( Maputo, Mozambique) is far better. Save your time and money and give it a miss. If you do go pay $5 instead of the suggested $25.
