We traveled to San Diego for a soccer tournament and the DoubleTree Del Mar was one of the preferred hotels listed for the event. We were told ahead of time that they were doing some renovations to the Lobby and Restaurant and said there would be some "minor" impacts. What they didn't tell us is all foot traffic was restricted to one entry point to the hotel and 2 elevators (1 doubled as the service elevator as well which meant you either had to wait longer for the guest elevator or ride with the housekeepers and their carts). The "temporary" restaurant was a white tent set up outside the pool area with a handful of 2 or 4 top tables. There was no air conditioning in the common areas and the one in our room wasn't much better. We wanted to order food in one night and were told we would have to eat in our room because they did not allow outside food in any common areas. So....we went out to eat instead. What made the entire experience even worse was the rate at $250 per night!!
