I booked this hotel for a fifteen year wedding anniversary, thinking I was bringing the wife to an unforgettable, historic location befitting of a $700 a night price tag. Not at ALL what I got.

We checked in and the first room they gave us had black mold and hair in the shower. See picture. No, this is not the shower of a Motel 6 by the airport. This is in a room that cost $695 a night in a hotel that were informed that this was a special occasion.

We called down to complain and were moved. Great, thank you. Only we were told to come down and get the new key ourselves instead of someone coming up with it and moving us.

The new room was two floors down with the same mountain view only obstructed by a red-roofed gazebo. Thanks? Not to mention that the windows in this entire place are filthy. Our view was cloudy. See picture of our expensive "mountain view" through the building and gross glass.

We were too hungry to request a new room and move again, so we just gave up.

We made our way to the main dining room. The farm to table place they raved about at check in was closed for renovations we were informed of this AFTER they raved about it, showed us a menu and offered to make us a reservation. Maybe keep your staff informed so your guests don't get excited about something not available? So the place we wanted to eat at for our anniversary was closed. Fine. It's a Monday, I guess they have to do renovations some time. And the main dining restaurant is a four diamond rated place, so we'll be okay, right?

Not so much.

The food took a solid hour and a half for dinner to come out. We were seated at 5:30. Food arrived at 6:58. We both checked our watches.

The food. It was like the fine dining on a cruise ship. Fancy things to choose from, but banquet hall taste and presentation. Bread was cold, drinks way over priced and just mediocre. I guess they're just giving these four diamond awards out to anyone? Absolutely nothing to write home about.

When we checked in, the front desk said they'd send up something special for our anniversary. Never sent it. You'd think more of an effort would have been made to ensure our stay was excellent after the room change. Instead our view was downgraded and our special occasion was all but forgotten. We were promised a free breakfast buffet for our anniversary but when the bill was slipped under the door in the morning, there was no note of this, nor were we given a voucher or any instruction on how to claim this, so we had to go to the front desk. At this point I'm so skeptical about their management abilities, it wouldn't surprise me if the $50 charge for the mediocre buffet actually ends up on my card.

The window seemed to have some sort of crack because it whistled ALL NIGHT. Shrill whistling that we recorded on our phones every hour on the hour from midnight to 8:00 a.m. And I get it, the building is old. But with all the rest of this experience, this was really just the straw. We're exhausted.

I normally don't like staying in brand new fancy joints because they lack the history and genuine swagger that comes from a place that's been around more than 100 years, but this place needs to take some pointers from a newer 4 or 5 star luxury hotel, because they are seriously running circles around you!

You can't just hide behind your historic charm and history when charging what you charge. Your operations are lacking and you are not staying true to that luxury, upscale, high end experience that comes with this price point.

Very disappointed. We'll never get that anniversary back. And sadly when we got married at 23, we couldn't afford a honeymoon and really felt like we were fixing that on this trip, having the romantic vacation that we never got. We still haven't gotten it. In fact, I'm a little embarrassed I took her here.

*Edit: After my concerns were brought to management, attempts were made to fix our concerns, so I changed my rating to reflect this. Still won't get the anniversary back, but I do appreciate the effort.
