We have stayed here twice - both in the Summer and Winter - and love this property. You are in the middle of the mountains so the weather and remoteness are big factors in your stay. The Omni has developed a comprehensive list of activities to keep you busy, rain, snow or shine, and it's easy for a few days to zip by here without a care in the world.
This is a historic property so the rooms are smaller than modern hotels and, yes, you get the occasional creaky floorboard and missing amenity. You will be disappointed if you came here for fast WiFI or LodgeNet movies on a 70" HDTV. But if you came to enjoy the vistas of the mountains at sunrise or hiking the area, you'll discover the joy of being 'slightly disconnected' from modern life.
If you choose never the leave the hotel, they have you covered - there are a number of restaurants, bars and dining options onsite (and in the Inn next door). The food was good at all the places we tried, though my stand-out favorite is Stickney's steakhouse where you can sit on the veranda with a spectacular view.
If you're a Select Guest member, the Loyalty Ambassador here is amazing and will do everything to make sure you have a perfect stay. Overall it's really a very special place and the sort of hotel where you create memories instead of just a vacation.
