Joanna Perkins Review of DoubleTree Hotel Aurora

The hotel is undergoing renovations right now so I think they are renting out rooms cheaper than they usually would. My room itself was fine. I have gotten use to having a mini fridge and microwave in hotel rooms so I was surprised to not have them here. However, I did see one in the hallway when the maids were cleaning-- so, maybe some of the rooms do. It's nice to have when staying a few days so you don't need to eat out every meal. Free wifi, and worked fine for general browsing. I didn't try to stream anything. During my stay in early June 2017 one of the elevators was out of service, but the other two worked fine. The lobby was looking really shabby. The furniture looked so dirty I didn't want to sit down, and the floor was badly cracked concrete that was very uneven. I tripped a couple times despite the warning signs. They have an indoor pool, hot tub and a 24hr fitness room. The bed was very comfy and I always love the Double Tree pillows. The shower was really awkward, you had to get in to turn the water on and the fixture wasn't easy to operate so it was tricky to get the water temperature right. For some reason my room had the heat on when I arrived despite it being almost 90F outside. Maybe the last time it was occupied was a chilly night? Also, the cable was unhooked and I couldn't watch any tv channels but could see the on demand movie screens. I was able to reach behind the TV and hook it back up after I found the problem, but was still a little annoyed. Luckily, when I checked in the woman helping me gave me TWO cookies. So, I ate some chocolate and all was right in the world again. Overall, it was good for the price I paid, but not as nice as most Double Trees I have stayed in. The cookies and bed were consistent with DT standards, and those are why I chose DT in the first place.
