This museum actually consists of two parts: The 'inner museum' with the five original Viking ships
found at the bottom of the Roskilde fjord, and a very atmospheric and bustling 'outdoor museum' with the reconstructions. The indoor museum contains a good compact exhibition where the ships can be viewed from all sides and a number of partial exhibitions. The museum shop is very decent, with an excellent collection of books. The outdoor museum is a bustling harbor and wharf with many sailing ships, where you can see the development of the Viking ships and the ships thereafter. The staff is very knowledgeable, they can really tell you everything about viking and ship related topics. The nice thing is that some reconstructions still sail around too! A museum for really all ages, definitely worth a visit!
