Loews Ventana Canyon is a 5-star resort with 3-star food. Incredible rooms, views, gorgeous scenery, extremely polite service from all staff encountered, an all-world spa, excellent gym and golf activities, majestic hikes, and real tranquility. But besides breakfast, every place I ate here (and I tried them all, including room service) was overpriced and disappointing. The latter is the most distressing -- I don't mind paying a premium for great food, but I do for pedestrian food. If this place improved its culinary situation it would easily get 5 stars from me -- it's uniquely beautiful and profoundly peaceful. But the food is really a drag.
