What does Universal Toyota do?

Universal Toyota is a car dealership located in San Antonio, Texas, selling new and used vehicles such as Corollas and trucks, and also providing service like state inspections and oil changes.

What are the most common complaints about Universal Toyota?

The critical reviewers most commonly complain about poor service department experiences, including very slow oil changes that take over two hours even with an appointment, problems being created during repairs (such as an AC knob being broken or issues arising after a recall fix) that customers feel they are then asked to pay for, and feeling that their time was wasted by sales staff who did not show them the specific vehicle they requested.

Had a breakdown while heading to Universal Toyota in San Antonio to grab a part, and Sam from the parts department was a lifesaver. He is incredibly professional and polite, going above and beyond by offering me a ride back to my vehicle. Such a top-tier experience!

Three stars for Universal Toyota in San Antonio. I booked my 4Runner for an oil and filter swap, tire rotation, and a general check-up. However, they skipped the oil change despite taking over two hours just to rotate the tires. The service advisor didn’t mention this omission at checkout, so I had to track him down later to ask why. He claimed the oil change wasn’t due until the 10,000-mile mark. This was confusing because I had pre-paid for a package of three services, which I was told explicitly included an oil change. It feels like I paid for something I didn’t receive.

Universal Toyota in San Antonio delivered the parts I needed in a timely manner, and the department handled the busy period well. However, I had a frustrating experience navigating their website, which is quite difficult to use. I also couldn’t apply the military discount to my order, which was a letdown.

Shopped at Universal Toyota in San Antonio for a rear wiper assembly, but the experience was frustrating. The product listing clearly indicated that a rubber blade was included, but the part I received didn't have one. I had to make a second trip back to the dealership just to return it, and they wouldn't even honor the online discount at the register. The documentation seems really off.

Just ordered a replacement part online through Universal Toyota in San Antonio and was amazed that it was ready for pickup the very same day. The whole process was smooth and hassle-free, which let me get my car fixed quickly. Big thumbs up for their efficient service!

I had been receiving a airbag recall card in the mail .i finally call and then wait 2 months for the parts .i got an appointment .went and had things fixed I thought.a few days later airbag light came on which I had NEVER SEEN BEFORE now I try to schedule an appointment for this problem to be fixed and told I may have to pay if the light has nothing to do with the recall TOTAL B S like a mechanic fixes something but makes one thing else wrong so you have to pay more money to that mechanic this is an insult

I purchased a used car here a few weeks ago there were minor issues (dents and tear in console) not a big deal however the big issue was the brake light sensor was still on. When test driving the car there was no beeping sound, I went a full week before receiving the car back. We were told the issue would be fixed before returning us the vehicle. When I got the vehicle back the issue still wasn t fixed and now it had a constant beeping if the vehicle was moving over 3mph. I was told I would get a call when the part came in, in-order to fix the sensor however my spouse was the one who had to call and then they said to bring it in(it had already been 2wks). It has now been 3wks since purchasing the vehicle and I had to yet again leave it at the shop to be fixed. I was told by the CD today that the part had already been replaced. So yet again here I am without my car that should ve been fixed before it was ever sold.

Jesse in the service department was super helpful and kept me informed of what was going on with my vehicle during it getting fixed. I will be going to Jesse for all my service needs and recommend you ask for him as well. He goes up and beyond and that's what a service writer should do but so many places lack what he does for you. Thanks for your help Jesse!

This 5 star rating is solely for Franco and Jose. These two salesmen were enthusiastic and energetic with their approach, which made my car purchases an enjoyable experience. Even though their management made it difficult for them, their perseverance helped them achieve the goal at hand and for that I m grateful. I wish Franco and Jose continued success and to keep helping people find their dream car.

Normally I hate vehicle shopping and buying due to pushy salesmen. I have to say that this experience was completely different than what I have experienced before. My sales guy was Antonio Gonzalez he was phenomenal from start to finish and NOT pushy at all. I also want to give a shout out to the finance guy Noahie (forgive the spelling), he too was charismatic and funny and made the paperwork process easy to understand and as painless as possible. I highly recommend the folks I have listed in my review.

Hans listened to what we needed and wanted. He found us a vehicle and made sure everything was ready when we got to the dealership. We drove 3 hours each direction to purchase this vehicle and it was well worth the trip. Would absolutely recommend the dealership and Hans to anyone looking for a vehicle both used or new. Thank you for making it so easy!

This was probably the best experience we have ever had with an automobile purchase. Our sales representative was helpful, knowledgeable, and made the process as pain-free as he could. We test drove the vehicle I was interested in and that completely won me over. All of the features for my vehicle were explained in enough detail to get me started with my new Highlander without being over-done. We told our representative we ll see him again in a few years when our youngest son starts to drive...

Service department BROKE my AC knob during a state inspection and didn't say anything. It literally fell off into my hand right after I left, when I KNOW was working when I dropped it off. The manager did make it right, but only after I had to go back and waste my time waiting around more to plead my case.
I know this isn't the end of the world, and perhaps the technician was rushed and didn't even notice that they broke the nob... But that seems pretty unlikely as it was basically inoperable. Watch your back here folks

Excellent service!!! From the day that I have purchased my vehicle to the moments I get services on vehicle!

Nieves Zapata has gone above and beyond my expectations. I contacted them on a Friday morning and was out of there in little to no time. I also needed to work while waiting and Mr. Zapata helped me get situated with the WiFi there as well. All of my needs are met. This is my first time getting my vehicle serviced there. Coupons were applied that universal has provided and Mr. Zapata made sure I got the best services for my buck! Saved tons of money!!!!

Excellent job Toyota !! You all have an awesome individual that make hectic times better! ! I plan to be with you all for a life time!

Customer service was rude over the phone, asked for a service advisor and the lady that answered was hesitant to transfer one over and when I finally got a hold of one he was not any better. For a business, if they can t treat a customer over the phone right that will usually reflect on how they will act in person. If your new to the area, Cavender Toyota will treat you better and also offer better pricing on basic routine services

Buying a used car from this dealership has been one of the worst decisions I have ever made. I purchased a 2005 4Runner wholesale and after two days of driving the engine starts to misfire caused by a bolt stuck on an intake valve on cylinder 4. The dealership agreed the bolt could have been one of the two wire harness bolts left off the vehicle while their technician was attempting to repair a coolant leak. Taking the cheap route, they replace only the valve components where the bolt was stuck instead of properly diagnosing if that bolt had caused more damage. I pick up my vehicle with the same loud tapping symptoms and was told the noise would go away. Instead it got worse, much much worse. Letting the dealership handle the diagnostics this time, they find that there is massive internal engine failure: an intake valve on adjacent cylinder 2 had broken, lodged itself sideways into the head, and was causing damage to the piston head causing all eight of the exhaust valves to break off on the opposite engine head. I was informed that the engine failure had no relation to the bolt being left in the motor. I disagreed as these motors are indestructible and never have this kind of damage just by chance. After some legal issues, lots of personally paid towing fees, unprofessional phone calls, and failed negotiations I am now stuck with a useless vehicle, a blown motor, and 5 months of not having a reliable vehicle. This dealership is obviously not in the customer satisfaction business and I will inform everyone I know of my horrible experience with them.

Super rude salesman. We came in asking to look not at a specific car, but just a specific make/model, for my aunt. Just to see if it was comfortable for her. We know one of this make/model was listed on the website. There were actually 3 others listed but apparently they are at other dealers in this group. That should have been clearer on the website.

And while she is looking to buy a car, she doesn't know what she wants yet so we are not doing a 'deal' today. If she likes the car you have we would be back when weather was better to test drive and purchase. We made this very clear.

Told Salesman that we also needed to do this quick before the storm that was imminent hit. He wanted to chat about 'what we were looking for in a car, and how much we wanted to pay .....etc" instead of just taking us to the make/model we told him we wanted to see.

In the mean time it starts pouring rain. He finally gets a large umbrella for himself and wanders around the lot to find this car - do you not know where things are on your lot?

Gets the car to the building and as he opens the door to let us out - again in pouring rain - he holds the umbrella over only himself. Not even offering cover to at the very least, my elderly aunt. She is drenched but goes to the car anyway. I turn to go back inside to get out of the rain and the door is locked. I ask him, still with the umbrella over him, to open the door and he just stares at me. My aunt gets out of the car and, again with the umbrella only over him, finally opens the door for us.

Drenched now, he thinks we are going to sit there while he tries to find is a different car and talks to some other sales guys?

First - No. I told you were were in a hurry and we were only interested in that particular make/model.

Second - REALLY? Just for the sheer rudeness of not holding the umbrella over an elderly lady in a downpour - I'll never go back to this dealer.

That is NOT how you treat your guests. If I could give you zero stars I would....

Universal Toyota is amazing. From the customer service to the easy to understand process, I left with not only my car running in tiptop shape, but I left feeling great about the work completed. It can be intimidating getting work done on your vehicle when you are not a automotive enthusiast, but my service advisor was awesome!! I highly recommend Universal Toyota!

Frank Cruz (Franco) is a very exuberant, zesty, kind individual. Franco is also ready to help anyone, especially his customers. I am a two time Toyota owner, and I must say that I am grateful for my salesman Franco Cruz. My prayer for Franco that he will have a great career at Universal Toyota and may God continue to bless him.

The service I received from Sammy Ayyad is always great!!! He is very knowledgeable when it comes to my car. I can always trust him and rely on him doing his best to get issues resolved. Rigo the technician working on my car does an awesome job also. He always tells me what to watch for, gives me tips, and shows me what he did. I will always come to these two guys as long as I own a Toyota. I highly recommend them to anyone. They are so professional and welcoming unlike other dealership I've been to in the past.

Had a problem with my nissan frontier that I bought from them. They told me that they only hav one mechanic that looks at vehicles that are not toyotas. Plus he's only ther on tuesdays. One day a week. If I had waited my truck would be sitting in my driveway for 5 days. Went to Gunn Nissan was out with problem fixed in an hr and a half. Apparently when they got it ready for the sales lot. Someone forgot to tighten the oil filter. A mechanic that only works one day a week? Rediculious.

I recently went in to look at a few cars and had a sales person (Abiola Orimolade) help me like no other sales person has. He was friendly and had alot of knowledge about the vehicles I was looking into. He knew I was really unhappy in my current ride and went (I feel like) above for me to get me into a car I've been wanting for years. Thanks lot!

Service experience for 4/28/14...Needed oil change and headlight looked at; possibly new tires. I drove in to the left side of the service bay (right side was 3 cars deep). There wasn't anyone around to greet me, but I could tell they were pretty busy. I walked over to the service manager's office as I saw the manager and another employee there. Amanda was quick to greet me and took up my case...in short order we went to her office and got started. I ended up needing new tires and she took the time to show me exactly what shape my tires were in (poor with uneven wear). After waiting about 30 minutes she came back in to let me know new brakes were needed, but there was a special for that just like the tires had a special sale as well. Both initially and after mentioning the brakes she offered the free shuttle service, and this time I took her up on the shuttle offer. Everything was able to be done in one day (dropped the car off around 2:30pm...it was ready a little after 7pm). Amanda made me feel like family, and that my car issues were important to her. She gave me the best deal on all the service I needed done, and I will most definitely be returning and asking for her! Overall a GREAT job on a busy Monday without an appointment!

Only ask for Harry Harizavi - This is in ONLY salesman that is honest and fair. He truly cares about his customers. I've never met a salesman like him. I had a bad experience with Universal Toyota about 6 years ago and Harry has restored my faith with Universal Toyota! When me or my family is ready for another vehicle he's the first person I'm going to call! 10 STARS for Harry! Thank you Harry!

I asked them multiple times if they were going to run my credit to which they replied no. Yet my credit was still ran and went down 5 points. Lying isn't good business and says a lot about a man's character. If your looking for a place where you'll get treated with respect and that will do honest business with you don't go here. And if for whatever reason you do decide to go here don't give out any of your personal info because apparently they will do whatever they want with it regardless of what you say.

I would never buy a car or use their service department, nor recommend their service department to anyone.if I could rate it minus 10 I would! The service manager was very unhelpful and unkind to my 70 yr old widowed friend. She had to bring in her car for a takata airbag recall which they said would be about a year to fix but needed to leave because of danger to drive. gave her a rental to use for the duration. When after a month she became concerned about leaving her car there for so long and out in the weather in their back lot she said she would rather take her car back and bring in back when ready to fix. Manager told her very flippantly that it she did she would be charged 1100 dollars for the rental use for that previous month! She told him that was not explained to her not was there any written warning of rental return before her car was fixed in a year! He rudely told her it didnot matter that was what was would happen! He told her other spools just come in monthly and walk out to the back lot and start their cars and buy carcovers for protection . If damage happens to their cars then the car owner's insurance will have to take care of it. The 70 yr old lady would have to walk out to the back lot and do the same! She asked why he did not tell her this when she brought her car in for the recall and he flippantly replied "you did not ask". Nice compassionate customer service,N O T !!!!! So beware of how this dealership treats it's customers especially senior citizens!

I never take the time to write reviews but this was an awful experience. I came here with my Dad to help him purchase a truck. He doesn t speak English very well so I was there to help with the negotiations and such. Vicki Khyle was the sales consultant that worked with us. My dad had already done some initial negotiations a couple days prior. I was reviewing what they had covered the days before but Vicki was very hesitant on giving me clear information. I had asked simple questions about the price but instead of answering the question she responded on something along the lines of, We re the largest Toyota dealership in town. We re not crooked. I was confused as to why she said that when I was asking about a line item on the discounts. I had asked if they can include some add-on items in the price. She came back and said, Looks like they re feeling generous for the holidays. We can do that deal. I looked at the sheet and they basically reduced the discount amount by the cost of the add-ons. I don t know if she thought I wouldn t notice but I was not happy at that point. We ended up getting the truck bc my Dad needed it at that point and I do not live in town to do more shopping around. Vicki said she would contact me on Monday to schedule a time for the add-ons, that we purchased, to be installed. I waited several days and left her several messages because she never contacted me. It was about a week later and I found the contact for the finance manager we worked with and he was able to help me find someone who could help us (Mark- he was the only pleasant part of this entire experience). I m actually getting worked up again remembering this. This was by far the worst car buying experience I ve had to date. I would gladly pay more and take my business elsewhere next time.

Horrible service, was lied to multiple times and they wasted my time unapologetically. THEN after jerking me around, the sales guy had the balls to *try* and push another car sale on me. I would never give this place my business! Run so far away from this place before the same happens to you.
