Decided to stop in here for lunch while our car was charging. We sat outside even though it was chilly and windy it wasn't too bad at all. We both ordered a margarita and we also split a cheese quesadilla and a salsa flight. Everything from food to the service was great and we will certainly be back next time we are in town!

This little cozy restaurant is right at the beach. The food was delicious but the prices were extremely high for the amount of food given. The service was so so. They offer blankets in each chair so who knows what things that could be spreading. Although the concept is good, the outcome isn't so great. If you are looking to get real close to others eating in the restaurant, this will be for you. The tables are so crammed together there is barely room for the chairs. So you end up sitting really close to everyone else. The servers can barely reach people!
It was service for 8 and only one was brought some tacos and 10 minutes later they started serving the table. We had two extra chairs for 2 people that we were waiting for and they wanted to sell that table they need more organization in the kitchen and with the hostesses the food is fine.
The service was exceptional and the food incredibly delicious. The roast tacos was a favorite and a very spicy and rich Havana sauce.
Good restaurant and great food and service, worth to visit.
Bland and tasteless tacos (fish and shrimp). Service was ok could've been better but it was busy... I'm not sure what all the hype is about. My husband took one bite and didn't eat anymore of his tacos they did take it off the bill.
I only stopped in for drinks - reasonably priced and a cool vibe going on
Big place, good for groups. The food is ok. We'll located
The food is ok/pretty good but this is California... I can find outstanding Mexican cuisine for less $. However, I probably can't find it cheaper with that view. People keep raving about the guacamole.... it's too blended for my taste. The rice and beans do not have a lot of flavor. For $12, I should get a much bigger Margarita. The servers are nice and the place is busy.
Great service. The chicken enchiladas are excellent. Everyone in our group thoght their meal was really good.
The best chips and guacamole. We always go here when in town.
Absolutely amazing view along the Santa Monica beach and the service was very good but the food was average for the price range. Drinks tasted good but were not very strong and the tacos were good all around. Great place to stop in if you are passing through.
I love going to Blue Plate when I come into town (from the Midwest). I ve always loved what I get, as has anyone else I m with. But the Chopped Salad (with ceviche) is sooooo yummy; I crave it! I ve probably been back to have it 5x! The price is reasonable too.
Great view just across the street. Food was great, server was nice and we got the taco del dia. (which was Al Pastor). Margaritas are slightly expensive for the size, $16 for about 8 oz drinks.
Chips and guacamole and short rib tacos pretty good, rice and beans a little bland
Typical Santa Monica crowd. I didn't really enjoy the Baja fish tacos at all. The star of the taco should be the fish.
The ceviche was mostly liquid, no solid seafood. Lobster tacos were overcooked and dry. Chips were stale and salsa....was that supposed to be Mexican salsa? or some weird chef's "take" on Mexican? In any case, go there if you've never been to a Mexican restaurant before but NOT recommended.
Yummy! If you are looking for a quaint little spot for lunch this is it! We sat on the patio and were able to people watch and see the beach! I suggest getting a pitcher of margaritas (so good) we ordered a specialty margarita in the pitcher and it was one of the best I ve had. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and I was able to order a delicious Garden Taco plate. So good!
Manager looked right at me...didn't acknowledge that I was there. No one took my drink order or said sir I'll be there in just a minute. Only when I complained to the host was I chased out of the restaurant by the manager. Will not be going back. I've eaten there before...the food is pretty good. Staff and management...not so much:
Had shrimp tacos , loved the food! Atmosphere could have been more open, but whatevs.
Soooooo good! Great friendly service and food was delicious. Nachos so creative, tacos and fajitas were so tasty, and so were the beans and rice. We didn't have room for dessert!
We went to Blue Plate for lunch on our visit to LA/Santa Monica... I ve legitimately had better tacos at gas stations. They weren t bad tacos. They were just meh... and paying $60 bucks for 2 adults and a kids meal was steep for what you get. (And my son hated his quesadillas)I know it s high rent district (aka California) but it was just overpriced and underwhelming.
Beef was too sweet but the chicken was good. I m from Texas so I expect chips and salsa... paying for it is aggravating but whatever this isn t in Texas. My rating isn t based on the quality of food but more of the price to quality ratio.
Good location but food was a little cold and overpriced for what it was. Great cocktails though and chips and salsa whilst you wait.
I love Blue Plate Taco! Not only is their food delicious, but the outdoor patio is so cute and over looks the Santa Monica Pier and Ocean. Each time I have come, the waiters have been so attentive and nice. The tacos are amazing and the Margs are even better! This is the perfect place to come for a girls night out, fun date night or birthday celebration.
The lobster tacos, shrimp tacos, fish tacos, chicken tacos, and steak tacos are all delicious. If you are debating between the chicken or steak, always go with the steak! They are delicious, authentic street-like tacos. The chips and guac are a must. The guac is so delicious and comes with a small salsa as well. The street corn is also the perfect addition to a meal. The paloma and cadillac margarita are my favorite drinks! The passion smash was also good, but only order it if you are looking for something super sweet!
Week nights you can probably get in without a reservation, but on weekends or if you are coming with a party bigger than 2 you will definitely want to make a reservation. The restaurant outdoor seating area is very small and limited.
I live in the South Bay so I don't get up this way often rode our bikes halfway up from the marina basically I should say put bikes on the car and rode up for my friend's birthday. Have a wonderful lunch as always
The food was amazing, the staff was so friendly and helpful and the portions was big.
Food is good but it's super expensive and service isn't great
Unremarkable.. outside of the view. Little flavor.. Little value.. And what Mexican restaurant makes you pay for chips and salsa?
Get a Taco from a Taco stand and sit on a bench and save yourself 20 bucks for a potentially better meal.
Great service and excellent food ! The decoration is very nice, the place is cosy and warm. Great exchange with kitchen staff as well, we were seating at the bar. In their busiest time they are very smiling and fun !
They some how fit in a last minute HUGE family. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
Wow!!!!! I came here with my sister and sister in law and we are OBSESSED. This restaurant has such a cool vibe, the food is delicious and the staff are amazing. Please do yourself a favour and visit this spot next time you are in the Santa Monica Pier area. Also - ask for Bryce as your waiter. He is the absolute best!!!!!!!!
Stopped in for lunch, able to get seated right away. They let us mix & match tacos, which was cool. Had one each of the lobster, pork belly, & Baja fish. All were good, but the lobster was great. Iced tea wouldn't normally make a review from me, but theirs with the agave sweetener was noteworthy.
Great food, atmosphere and service - just outstanding!!
DELICIOUS MEXICAN FOOD ON OCEAN AVENUE. We enjoyed lunch at this great restaurant adjacent to the park by the Santa Monica Pier. Even though the restaurant was busy, we didn't have to wait- and we were seated immediately. Our server Grace was outstanding. The food is priced reasonable and our entrees were flavorful and well prepared. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but the inside seating was limited, as this is a small restaurant. I ordered a Cheese Quesadilla, and it was very tasty and inexpensive. This is a delightful place to eat, while enjoying the ocean breeze and people watch on Ocean Avenue. Highly recommended if visiting Santa Monica and looking for a place to eat directly across from the park.
Great place, nice people, tasty food, fast service.
Great service and the tastiest Mexican I've ever had.
fast service, excellent food. Great nachos, fantastic fajita and best ever tacos.
Great food. Entertaining. Good comfortable surroundings
Awesome meal in a great location. Fish tacos and spicy margarita were great.
Great great tacos--I had the chicken, shrimp, and veggie tacos, and they were all wonderful. The venue is a bit tight and intimate, but it works well for the setting. The margaritas were good, not great, but still worthwhile.
So good I forgot to take a picture of my fish tacos and watermelon agua fresca and tequila. Start off with some guacamole, chips and salsa... try the habanero sauce if you are feeling and . Make sure you sit outside to enjoy the awesome atmosphere and cool breeze. The patio has Mexican blankets on each chair in case you get chilly outside.
the menu is insane! totally recommend veggie dishes here!
Service was good, but slow. Food was good, but lacked punch. Flavorsome pork tacos but u needed to search for the pork!
I had the Tacco with pork and my girlfriend with fresh shrimp and a seafood salad it was all super fresh - the staff is very friendly
Very quick service with cool laid back vibe. Fish tacos were tasty and fresh. Santa monica local beer was good too although a little expensive.
Love the location, right off of Ocean Ave overlooking the water. Would've been great, but we got stuck sitting inside and the only view I had was of the door. Pretty cramped inside, but outside looked enjoyable!
Definitely go for the margarita pitcher. You basically get two margs for the price of one. Food is pretty overpriced, but that's what you expect with the location.
If you are in Santamonica, and you want the whole "fish taco" experience thus is a must try.
We ordered the pork belly and fish tacos + guac and chips. The tacos were mediocre but the guac was very tasty.
Wow wow wow! Lobster Tacos oooh This joint is popular and busy as heck but now I know why. Sat at the bar and staff was super friendly and accommodating. Can't wait to go back and try one of everything!!
Great food. Salsa is very spicy. Love the atmosphere, you can watch the sunset from here which is magical!
Great for a group--the staff went out of its way to be welcoming.
Enjoyed the ambiance and food. The experimental nachos didn't work well but rest of the food was great.
Delicious and fresh! Every time I go to Santa Monica I stop for a bite
Indoor and outdoor seating. Great vibes in the atmosphere.
This place can get a bit of a wait.
Food quality is high but the prices feel higher. Still, a great dining option. Plus, the famous pier is right across the street!
Because it was quite crowded, I made it to a bar counter. It was very helpful to me that the store clerk taught me various things that I can not speak English very much. Does it seem to be OK many times? He was glad because he called me. People next to me also casually talked to me of Japanese people. It was a very nice shop and a clerk. I ate nachos, but it was very delicious and had vegetables and a lot of avocado sauce. I also want to go to Santa Monica to go eat.
I'm a taco aficionado, outside of Mexico and Chicago, Blue Plate taco blue me away with there tacos.
I had their pork belly tacos my goodness. They were delicious, rice and beans were great complements. Margaritas, HELLO! Always say yes to Margaritas, full warning if you're not used to tequila sips not chugs.
Visited Los Angeles and Santa Monica, and this was one of the best parts of the trip. Great food and atmosphere!
Food is OK, your better off eating at one of the food trucks near by. I was rushed to eat said I only had 1 hour since I didnt have a reservation
Food was very PLAIN for the price. 17$ for a quesadilla that didnt even come with side only came with a spoonful of guacamole and salsa that tasted like water. Honestly save your money because not even the atmosphere is with the money. Long story short, to expensive for typical tasting food
Lovely service and all that, but was under whelmed by the tacos, very little meat in them. Was expecting something great from all the reviews.
So today I was visiting Santa Monica on my trip to Los Angeles. A friend of mine recommended me this restaurant. The service was great, the waitress very nice, helpful, and attentive, everything very quick, and efficient, the food was also amazing, I had a steak fajita, 10/10 food, also the service is a 10/10, as well the price, the total was 38$ approx between my brother and I, I pad with 40$, and I left 50 euros as a tip alone, I had left in my pocket, so we left, and as I was calmly walking back to the shopping center near by, this lady who works there, (I assume she is the manager) approached to me, with a very nasty, rude, attitude, and told me "WE DO NOT ACCEPT YOUR MONEY HERE" I thought, "Well, maybe giving different currencies is rude" so I gave her another 50$ USD, and I kept walking. To not make the story longer, she thought I had paid with the 50euros alone, which I did not, it was a tip only, because I thought they had done a great job. I went back, and they gave me back the money I over paid, after explaining myself, about 50dollars. I will never go back to that place, the way that manager treated me, and my brother was awful, horrendous, nasty, as if we were thieves, everyone looking at us, shameful experience. Sorry the word, but very stupid lady, bad experience, pity since they have great food.
Very well located taco place near the pier. The atmoshpere is lively and the food is wonderful. Fish tacos exceeded my expectations and their super spicy sauce is made for the real hot sauce aficionados.
Service was great, food was amazing. The only issue we had is that it seemed to take a long time for the food to come out of the kitchen. It could have been a simple fluke, ad we watched other that came in after us get their food and finish it before ours came out. Other than that, we had a great time. Will definitely be going back the next time we are in town.
A limited menu, and a bit overpriced, it's a great place to eat if you want to people watch next to the beautiful Santa Monica Beach.
It was kinda pricy for what you get, however, the location outweigh the price as it next to the beach with cool breeze blowing and very friendly staff
Really good food, however, after waiting for 20 mins and seeing other parties be seated before us. The guy working with the glasses tonight was completely unprofessional and very rude. He makes me never want to come back. Our waiter was absolutely awesome. Only getting three stars because the food and drinks are just that good. May come back but we will see. Mercado is just as good and could easily compete. Try Mercado first!
The food was good but a little over priced. The service we had was terrible, when I wanted the check the waiter rolled his eyes and hid behind the bar.
The location of the restaurant is lovely, the staff was great, the food a bit pricey, but delicious!!
