Delicious brunch with an Irish flair. Try the Irish breakfast, chicken a la king puff, or classic brunch faves like biscuits n gravy, chilaquiles, or lemon curd pancakes. A bit pricey, but worth the experience. Cute barista and to-go bakery also worth the trip!

What reviewers say about Cytrus PR
What are the most common complaints about Cytrus PR?
I can't reliably answer that — the three lowest-rated reviews on file describe issues like multiple server changes and inedible food, flies in the dining area, and poor service from hosts, but there is no clear evidence on file that these complaints specifically relate to a company called Cytrus PR rather than to a restaurant where these reviewers dined, so attributing them confidently to Cytrus PR isn't supported by the data.

Delicious Desserts and Plates for EVERYONE! I am a personal fan of Chef Maeve and her rock start team including Manny and Ray from all the Food Network Shows. They not only crush it with amazing cake, cupcakes, entremets, petit fours, but the designs are one of kind. They also serve food and stuff... but the real winners here are the gorgeous decor, the amazing team that makes you feel like family and the indulgent desserts that will have you dancing to the high heavens!
Wide selection of bakeries & delicous breakfast options with a gourmet touch in all plates; a must if you are in La Jolla.
A must! Great coffee, great food, great sweets. The ginger chews are my FAVORITE! So, so, so good! Also love their breakfasts. Never been disappointed.
We LOVE Sugar and Scribe. They have delicious french toast, lemon curd pancakes, and tasty vegetarian eggs benedict. Yummy, inventive mimosas too!
Amazing place! Came to visit La Jolla for the weekend, ate here on our 1st morning, came back for breakfast morning #2 and plan to come again tomorrow! It s that good!
Excellent food. Excellent service. They do not scrimp on the serving sizes. You may want to share a meal.
The service was horrible.... Changed servers 3 times in 15 minutes... My friend had a BBQ beef and cheese sandwich... It was so tough it was inedible... When we told our server we were ignored... Seating it much to cramped.. Won't be back
Great food this morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful!
5 stars for food and if you are adults patrons they are nice to you. If you have a baby then you will quickly find out they are not accommodating.first, baby strollers (with the car seat + even it it acts as a chair for the kid) are not allowed on premise. Ok. We we're denied a chair beside our table for our baby car seat because there was apprently not enough room to serve. So instead our baby goes on the ground outside. Was this really the right call? Our table had lots of flies buzzing around our baby, request to move inside (we we're willing to stay put until something was available) was also denied -- told that we needed to go back and wait in line for 30 min. We had been regulars before but now it makes me think twice about coming. Their prices are expensive - enough that if you don't even get good service it's not worth it. Honestly left pretty infuriated.
Delicious baked goods (monkey bread!) and a good breakfast & lunch menu. Chilaquiles weren't traditional (obviously), but the salsa was delicious.
Adorable setting in La Jolla. So nice to see a sweet bakery shop that also serves breakfast and lunch. I ordered the chicken avocado salad. It was great. My friend ordered the eggs benedict. One of the eggs was raw, which we will forgive them for. They gave her mini cupcakes to apologize since she didn't let the server know until we were done eating (too late to replace it). So all is forgiven. The important part was that they made it right once they knew. That's good customer service.
Got French toast, was the best french toast I've ever had in my entire life. The whip cream is vanilla infused, there is no crust so the whole thing is soft and easy to chew and cut. Atmosphere is fairly epic and service is fast and good, even when crowded.
Sugar and Scribe is one of my favorite places to go in La Jolla, variety of irish and italian pastries and comfort food, its a bakery that offers breakfast and lunch they have traditional Irish plates such as Sheppards pie and the workers are very friendly, great vibe, great food.
Delicious food and good service. I tried the Irish food with black pudding which tastes great.
Great friendly service, amazing coffee drinks. Perfect food. One of my favorite places to be in San Diego. Nice outdoor area in La Jolla, with amazing food and coffee. I enjoy often during the slow months. During summer this place can be packed. (But shhhhh! Don t tell too many out-of-towners.) Only negative: WiFi has sucked lately, which has added to me not going as often. Could you guys fix please?
This place was amazing. The food was good and service even better.
Great food, service, and environment. I would love to spend more time here.
service was efficient we asked for custom dish that was not on menu and came nice. Food was tasty, they outsource juices, I prefer home made
Ok a wife's favorite for sure, killer breakfast and not as busy as The Cottage across the street but their food and bakery give it an edge.... Great coffee also!
Croissant was perfect. If you don't know what to get, just get the butter croissant.
The best place to have Sunday brunch. We love our coffee late with coconut milk James makes the best coffee in the house. My favorite waitress is Emma , she is super friendly . Food is always fresh and pastry ....... you better be on time because it sells really fast speciously the almond croissant ;)))))
Delicious brunch spot. Make a reservation on weekend. Awesome selection of eggs. Better than The Cottage next door!
I love tuna sandwich, and lemon loafers so tasty, yummy....
Amazing atmosphere, food and service! Can't wait to come back tomorrow!!!!
Such great food and our server, Donna, was awesome. The chai tea latte with oat milk was so good. Everything was wonderful!
Food and service were complete average. It's totally fine to dine here but I could hardly find a reason to come.
Went here close to the closing to pick up some pastries but there was not many options left. Ended up getting a box of petite fours ($14) and sugar cookies ($8) which where fantastic!! I highly recommend their cake to anyone who wants something small but tasty! Not too sweet, but a wonderful almond flavor and moist cake! My only critique is that I thought the prices were a little high (mainly due to them not being posted anywhere), and the serving staff had to look up each item to give a price quote. However, the staff was responsive and I would go back again!
Great scrambled eggs, generous avocado servings for the same price as elsewhere, good bacon, and a wonderful bakery.
The restaurant is charming, the food was delicious and the coffee was superb!
Good food. Complimentary cup cakes! Very nice environment. About 40 minute wait on Sunday afternoon
We had a group or 7 there for lunch today Donna was our waiter an was so awesome plus amazing. She jokes an was very interactive with our group alot. Good times!! Besides that the food was so amazing. I had the biscuits an gravy that were so delicious. Great time there. Well recommended.. get the bottomless mamosas well worth it. Lol
Went for "Harry Potter Day" and boy was it packed. However, the line went as fluidly as could be expected. The staff was all friendly, and that was a feat of itself because of the sheer magnitude of the crowds. The food was delicious, to say nothing of the multitude of baked goods I took away. All in all, a delightful experience.
Great breakfast with creative alternates to the normal breakfast dishes
NOT SO GOOD ANYMORE ! Ever since this eatery stopped using Caffe Calabria whole roasted coffee beans we have given it a miss. Their new coffee sucks !
The food was great but i diddnt like where the hostess sat us outside the sun was in my face we moved to another table . That on was wobblly and almost knocked our drinks down we moved to three differnt tables
Food and drinks were outstanding. We even got desserts to go... Because, how can you not... Only reason for the 4 instead of 5 star is due to the service kind of lacking. He was really nice... when he finally came around.
Great Food, beautiful atmosphere , and friendly accommodating staff. You should give this place a try.
Delicious food, super friendly staff! Try the squaw bread sandwich, it is marvelous!
I'm a bread pudding fanatic and this place has one of the top best one I have had in my life.
Nice bakery cafe. Friend staff and nice location. I tried their most popular croffins. It was a cross between a croissant and a muffin. It was a bit too much chocolate for me.
Wonderful outdoor seating, gracious service and our waitress was so wonderful with explaining and recommending certain menu items. She told us about the chef and it was really interesting learning about the process and also how the chef had won numerous Awards and was currently on television, and yet the atmosphere was not snobbish, but rather quite the opposite. Very welcoming and friendly and just delightful! So first of all, if like me, you love anything sparkly, you would think you died and went to heaven hear! This photo is of the lemon curd pancakes, but then you can get any of those items what they call unicorn Style. That involves a homemade raspberry macaron, which was subtle and excellently crafted, homemade marshmallows, which they are known for, and eye candy sprinkles and gorgeous gold glitter. My cousin had this and I actually had one of the breakfast skillets, which I did not photograph, but it was artfully presented, seasoned to Perfection, and I felt that it was so healthy and fresh, not to mention delicious! Also very huge portions, so I actually could only eat a little over half of it and took the rest home for another meal. Definitely go inside to look at the bakery items oh, and if you see something you want served at the outdoor table, you can just tell them what table you were at and they will put it on your bill. I had the unicorn cake pop, also pictured here. Just the right amount if you don't want too much sugar, and of course sparkly delightful eye candy. You can also purchase any of their gorgeous sprinkles and glitter! Really a fantastic experience, and I cannot recommend this place enough!
Amazing. Got the traditional breakfast with blueberry pancake, everything was delicious. Probably the best pancake I've ever had 10/10
We had a great coffee and light lunch! Unlike other reviewers we had fine service. We shared a yummy and goey grilled cheese which came with a nice fresh salad. I liked that the hbeverages like tea and espresso come with a complimentary shortbread cookie. Their bakery is wonderful (and portions huge). Bought the petite fours to take home!
I love their orange cream and dark chocolate cake. Plus, they have an amazing coffee too. This is a perfect place to have afternoon coffee and sweet with my girlfriends !
It's a great and beautiful place. I loved the atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. The wait was not too bad for a Sunday morning.
Very good food and coffee.. parking is the deciding factor and constuction/ depends on when going there.. 10ish was easy to find table .
Very nice place. Friendly staff. If you're in the area I'd highly recommend stopping. By for breakfast or a pastry. 5/5
Best place around, friendly staff and delicious food
Beautiful location and delicious food! I got the granola to share with my family and I cannot put words to how yummy it was. The perfect amount of sweetness and crunch! For my entree I got the chilaquiles and although they were very spicy More
All three plates that we ordered were full of flavor. Servings were definitely filling! I recommend upgrading to the biscuit if you get the chance! The biscuit was phenomenal as it was slightly sweet.
Sugar and Scribe is a quintessential brunch spot in La Jolla! We made brunch reservations for 7 in advance and dined al fresco. Such a beautiful morning. Our server was also the sweetest and such a pleasant person as well :) She happily refilled coffee and water and checked on us regularly. Because we were a large group and catching up, we sat literally an hour after and she did not make us feel rushed and no one gave us the stink eye. Phew! Sugar and Scribe is probably one of my favorite brunch spots, ever. The ambiance, food, everything is perfect. I had the Chicken Little scramble and I loved every single bite. I loved the cheese they use (and I'm super picky about it) so I was super lucky haha. The $5 upgrade for the lemon curd pancake is worth it too. I didn't really taste much lemon in my pancake; it tasted more florally to me. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it and practically inhaled my pancake with that floral/citrus-y syrup. Such a unique pancake :) Oh, and of course the cupcakes are amazing!! They are quite small though for the price (2.75 ea) but the portion size is right in reality, heh. I'll definitely be back for more of that pancake and chicken little scramble!
While it is mainly a pastry shop, you can also have lunch. It's really good and the portions are plentiful. For the vegetarian that I am there was an excellent fried artichoke salad. The lemonade was unlimited. It is very crowded and I would recommend that you book in advance
Poor service. Very bad hosts! To bad, food is good. Will not go back!
The bread pudding is super delicious and keeps me going back for more.
Best food ever I will return
The food was fine and table service was good. We asked to sit outside (party of 4) and they had a bunch of 2 top tables all around. We asked if we could push 2 tables next to each other and was told no that is not allowed. When we left the 2 tables we wanted to push together were in pushed together with 4 people sitting at them. Pretty stupid
Very nice and pleasant place. Their take on California toast was great. Pastries look really good, alas my diet wouldn't allow me to sample any
I love Sugar and Scribe Bakery! My favorite things are their cupcakes! My mom and I come here every Thursday for a little slice of heaven.
My wedding cake Saturday was amazing! I highly recommend the lemon raspberry, it was a huge hit with our guests. Thank you again:)
Great coffee, awesome food. Why would anyone want to go to a fast food coffe joint.
Definitely one of my favorite bakeries in La Jolla. I was so happy when they opened here. I've never had their food but loooove their baked goods!
Went for brunch on Sunday while hosting some visiting family and The Cottage was too packed. At first they promised us less wait time so we were seated in about 15 mins. Unfortunately the server came to take our order, didn't write anything down then after 45 minutes we were told we had a new server and due to a "kitchen glitch" our order was taking a little longer! She only gave us a quick sorry and gave us 2 pastries on the house which didn't help my gluten free starving status! Then when the food finally came the server put asparagus on the side instead of in my scrambled eggs. Another quick sorry from the food runner. Funny thing there were a bunch of empty tables around so not sure how they messed up this bad. Would have been great to have had a manager stop by or perhaps give us a break on our bill for this terrible experience that ruined our brunch for our visiting guests. Will def be going back to the Cottage next time. Even though they're busy they have stellar service and food comes out fast!
The atmosphere is comfortable with fun decor and great service. The food is delicious and the servings are just right. With so many restaurants to choose in La Jolla, make sure to frequent this one.
Very rarely do I got a restaurant where I can say it was amazing. Sugar and Scribe exceeded expectations and goes down as one of the best bakery restaurants I've ever been too.
The best place to pick up brunch and enjoy it elsewhere! We picked it up for a picnic near the beach and it was still warm and the egg still runny! One of the best egg benedicts I've ever had.
Very bad experience. rude customer service. very very rude. and don't know what they are doing handling customers. a place to get your mood ruined. argumentative staff. one time they kicked us out because we sat at a table inside to wait for our order, we sat sat down at a " wrong table" as we were told( my husband and i came with our small children to relax, get some baked dishes and coffee) , they told us to go outside and wait. we never came back after that because that is not how you treat a customer. clearly they do not care and want to keep customers. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE! The decor from outside is deceitful , while the food looks and tastes ok, the customer service really SUCKS, i have been here twice and would rather go to a pleasant coffee shop where me and my family are treated with respect. Especially the bakery section in particular is n8t a place I would ever come back to and spend my money this way.
Good tasting food. Had the chilaquiles with chicken. Chips were crispy, sauce was good, and chicken and cheese was as well. Gluten free bread option, and gluten free pastries are good. We also had the eggs Benedict and fluffernutter sandwich with bacon. This was also good, although it was not real "Fluff," but instead was the Kraft marshmallow knockoff version ;-) Still very good!
Best breakfast ever. Supreme food quality. Professional, yet friendly service. Changed vacation plans to return a second day. If I were local, it would be a regular haunt for me.
California skillet, grill cheese sandwich and cappuccino very rich.
They make the best coffee drinks ever! Brought my Lisa York Arts mug along which made the experience extra fun. I highly recommend their drinks and their food to anyone traveling to the area!
The Lemon Curd pancakes were divine and not too sweet. They have DARK CHOCOLATE MOCHAS ! The eggs Benedict with Lox and the smothered skillet were also both fabulous and filling. Good size portions and the staff was prompt and courteous. Will definitely be brunching here again!
Had a late lunch here today, just the kind of place I like with cuteness and light, fresh food. Best hot chocolate, perfect salads, delicious Slingo scramble. The crusty goodness on the grilled cheese was just a tad too crusty, the Irish brown bread had a wee spot of mold and our waiter, though nice and attentive, was surprisingly awkward, new to the job is my guess. The other staff were more natural and super friendly and made us feel welcome. I left happy and satisfied. We'll go back and maybe try some treats!
Don t waste your time waiting for a table here. Rude and careless staff. Wrong order. Wrong dish sent. Cold food. They made us feel like they were doing us a massive favour getting us a table and anything past that was an inconvenience for them.
Fantastic spot for brunch! Well worth the wait. There is also a walk up pastry counter inside that serves coffee as well. If the wait is long, they will take your phone number and call you when your table is ready. I'd drop someone off to get your name on the list while finding parking. There is a small lot out front, but I wouldn't plan on having a spot available when you get here. Regardless, there is plenty of street parking nearby.
Amazing flavor combinations. Some of the best baked goods in all of SD. The breakfasts are the absolute best!
Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. The sweet and savory pastries are delicious. I love the vanilla vanilla cupcake the best and the goat cheese asparagus quiche is delicious!
We found the staff rude for second time - unaccommodating and really quite unfriendly. After the first visit we said we wouldn t return and I wish I had stuck to that plan, but will not make the mistake again. The staff at The Cottage across the street are lovely in contrast!
Eggs Benedict was pretty good but the eggs were overcooked
