Food was good, nice environment. The only issue I m giving it 3 star is that after finishing our brunch, we were having tea. In the middle of that waiter came to us and asked us to finish it quickly since they are busy and need the table. I find it kinda rude...

VERY VERY bad experience!!!!
We will never go there again that is for sure!
Sunday morning we are going to eat breakfast with the kids...
The kids meal arrived after 15 min late while our meals were already cold (we wanted to eat our breakfast together as much that I remember)
Finally they got their eggs but one plate was with piece of hair... also the eggs where barely cooked and of-cures that we didn t get everything we ordered from the waitress.
Can t believe we waited 40 min for this terrible experience.

Not only do you have awesome and delicious cupcakes, but other treats as well. The list can go on and on, because there is always new stuff. love it!! Everything is great & the customer service is off the charts.

I just made my standard recipe for baked chicken breasts and used 1/4 C of her Orange/Cardamom/Fig glaze mixed into the chopped tomatoes topping. Fabulous! Unique! Next I'll try it as a glaze on fish. i love her products.

Desserts were OK. They looked better than how they tasted. They weren't jaw dropping. Waffle was good actually. Biscuits and gravy good too. I'm not a "fu-fu" place person so I'd be hard pressed to go back

So the stars are not so much reflecting the service but the food. Friend invited me out for brunch, after san diego started opening more businesses. Being a chilaquiles connoisseur, she wanted to hit up this place because she saw a friends snap of the food (chilaquiles). Reading the reviews decided to try this place out. Both of us got the chilaquiles, which our server mentioned was a popular pick. Knowing the main ingredients for this dish overall, which is a typical mexican breakfast we were excited. Once the plates were served we were kinda let down. Instead of enjoying our food, we started to dissect every inch of it. Sauce seemed to be a watery chimichanga sauce, the tortillas were not tortillas but looked like Tostitos chips (ones you use for nachos). Flavor was a little bland, not the pop in mouth spicey, tastey sunday morning food we are used to. My friend didn't really finish her plate, which I knew she wasn't a fan. I guess it had like a taco bell flavor aspect to it. The only thing positive was the our waiter and the bake goods we purchased later. If your looking for authentic chilaquiles, this is just a variation thats not as great especially if you grew up eating this dish. Bakery is super good though, brought home a coconut croissant had if for coffee the next morning.

My husband's eggs benny with smoked salmon was amazing, my french toast was a bit soggy butthe berry compote made up or it and the cappuccino was really nice. The service we received was excellent.

O.m.g. best experience ever. If you're a croissant lover like me you will love the egg sandwich and the bakery options. In my opinion very reasonably priced for the quality and taste. Definitely a top winner of my touristy experience.

What a wonderful place! We made a stop here while visiting family in SoCal, mainly because Maeve has been my favorite Baking Champ and I ve been wanting to try!!
I was impressed! No, not because she is a favorite of mine, but because the food was delicious and the service was great! Will definitely be back when we come visit family again!

The 5 star reviews don't lie. This place is great. We initially stopped by Cottage across the street, but after realizing it was a 2 hour wait, we decided to check out Sugar and Scribe. It was certainly a good call.

All you have to do is grab a table, check out the menu and go up to the counter to order your food. The pancakes were excellent and the bacon was cooked perfectly. Service was fantastic as well. Definitely worth another visit.

I asked for a bowl of the caramelized bananas which they have on the fluffenutter. The waiter told me they were too busy. Then the chef came out and told me "we caramelize them all in the morning. You wouldn't want to eat them on their own." We left and ate elsewhere.

Being new to this place it came highly recommend. I must say from a customer service stand point it was awful first I wondered around without being acknowledged I was going to eat but having walked in and around without a simple hello I decided not to. Then I approached the coffee bar to be ignored by 3 staff members who clearly saw me as I was less than a foot away from two of them. I then decided I was going to leave but noticed the order here sign on the other side. I can see why this place has more staff than customers and the place across they way is booming. I was told it had an Irish background didn t have any Irish manners and Irish hospitality. Good luck anyone new to the area.

Best spot for breakfast and lunch I've been to in a long while Wonderfully friendly staff and the most delicious eats! Beats that "other place"across the street by miles in service and food quality.

Sugar and Scribe Bakery. What an awesome little place. Sister in law told us about a Hogwarts themed event 12/12/2018. The Kids love HP so we went along for the ride. What a great place to stop in. Definitely well worth the trip from east county. We didn t realize at the time they served breakfast and lunch. On our return visit we plan on hitting up the breakfast. Definitely recommend making a stop here for a treat. #holidayathogwarts #sugarandscribebakery #sugarandscribe #sugarrush #lajolla

Pleasantly relaxed atmosphere and excellent location with enough parking - what more can one ask for. Well, as it happens, more can be asked for here to get to the 5 star rating. First thing we noticed upon entering the place was the attitude of the staff, particularly 2 of them, who seemed to be rushing people rather than inviting and serving. Bad start. Order was placed quickly and delivered in reasonably short time. Here's what we had. Beef and Guinness stew - tasted boring and the chunks of beef were too dry. Chicken tortilla soup - level of salt rendered it inedible. Not exaggerating. Shepherd's pie - looked a lot better than it tasted, but better than the previous 2 items. Barbacoa beef sandwich - one taste: salt; decent bun. Last - bacon and cheese toasted sandwich - best of all items - well seasoned, good proportion of cheese to bacon on tasty batard bread. Couldn't have coffee as we felt rushed and took the leftover food with the hope it would taste better at home; it didn't.

Must stop here for breakfast when visiting La Jolla!
Customer service, store cleanliness & aesthetic, food quality was all 5 stars. My family stopped here for breakfast every morning we could. Every breakfast dish we ordered was filling enough for a long day of shopping at cute nearby stores and swimming at the beach.

The worst part about our visit was having to choose between so many fantastic-looking options!! :)

I will forever associate the last day, of my first trip to California with this amazing meal. I can't recommend Sugar and Scribe enough! The Blazing Chilaquiles Skillet was spicy and fresh, robust and filling. The egg was cooked to perfection with the avocado at peak ripeness! And the latte should be submitted for some sort of award somewhere... all very, very good.

Always a pleasure coming here! The food and staff are great. Esp before the craziness of the La Jolla brunch crowd! Consistency is key and also the main reason why this is my weekly ritual!

The food was great. No complaints there, and the atmosphere was nice, a bit tight but not bad. What docks the rating down from me was our service. The waiter pretty much ignored us while we were there. My husband had a lemonade with complementary refills and despite being empty for over half the meal it was never refilled. We would have asked for more, but again he kind of ignored us. I would have overlooked this as they were busy ; however he paid attention to other tables that came before and after us. We have a one year old and know he makes a mess. Had that waiter paid even slightly more attention to us he would have gotten more than a 15% tip and this place would have gotten a higher rating.

1st time here and it won't be the last. Very well lit and clean place. Super friendly and professional staff... They have a perfect patio area and the inside was well lit as I said before and you don't have to worry about bumping into your neighbor table they are well spaced out. Food was the perfect portions with great taste and super reasonable pricing. The coffee was one of the best I've had in a while and their Blueberry house jam they gave us was one of the best, not too rich or sour. Their bakery section was to die for. Those cup cakes let me tell you very nice presentation, frosting was super good not to rich and they actual cup cake was moist with great taste. Parking was not a problem.

Aaah why doesn't this place have more reviews?!?!! It was simply amazing! We went for brunch and the lemon pancakes unicorn style were just about the best thing I've ever tasted! They were sooo fluffy and the strawberry syrup-sauce they put on top was phenomenal! The service was also very good. Super friendly staff. Would highly recommend this place. It's definately a neighborhood hidden gem!

We showed up without a reservation. A half hour later we were seated. Soooo thankful we waited. The food is both interesting and delicious. I thought about my brunch the rest of the day. We even bought some desserts for take out later! The staff was friendly and the food is on point.

The food was honestly very good, but the service was really bad. The waitress argued with us on every request. Honestly haven t been treated so poorly at a restaurant before. Brightened up the last 5 minutes when it was time to leave a tip however. Your place is really good but you really need to look at your staff

Food was good, my only question is WHAT IS IN THE MIMOSAS!? We went in a group of 7 me and my sister drank 1 mimosa and later that day we had a biiiiiiig headache and nausea, only the 2 of us....

So, i asked Sugar and Scribe to cater (make and deliver) the desserts for my wedding at the end of this past February. Any time i called, i was well taken care of, and even continued to be well recieved through many email consultations. Since i lived on the other side of the country, i didn't actually get to come in for a tasting until a week before the wedding. But, the tasting was a lot of fun, and a lot less stressful than i had predicted. The owner even allowed me to bring in my little black pug, which always makes me feel better.

We had lots of yummy flavors to pick from, it was hard to narrow it all down. But, once we did, she even let me get really creative with one of the cupcake decorations. It was all very pleasant and relaxing. i'm definetely disappointed i don't live in the area so i could just pop in whenever i wanted a sweet treat.

As far as the day and the treats went, everyone LOVED them! The brownies in particular were gone SO QUICK! My husband and i didn't even get one, but that's ok, i got my favorite (The Orangesicle) and he got his favorite (The Tieramasu). Thank you guys so much for everythingg! We wish you nothing but happiness and success in your everyday life and your business!

There is never a bad meal here. The lemon curd pancakes are so tender and tasty. The service is amazing. Maeve was there and was very attentive. Make reservations if you can. We got right in with our reservations on a windy Saturday

I love this place. I haven't been here in a couple years and it's as good as I remembered. Sitting outside and drinking some believable coffee while eating very wholesome delicious food is what you do when you're at Sugar and Scribe Bakery - Fine Food. It's special with a high home style yummy rating from me. It's like eating at your moms house. Potatoes are so good. They're worth the calories.

Stopped here for brunch while on a roadtrip this summer and so glad we did! I had The Gallway (pictured) with soda bread. Let me tell you, that is the best bread I have ever eaten! I would be eating here every week if I lived nearby. I also ordered a chai tea latte and we took some flavored cheesecakes to go. Everything was amazing!

I ordered a custom cake for a 30th birthday for a friend. Sugar & Scribe did an AMAZING job!!

I worked with Kaela who was super helpful with narrowing down my ideas. The end product was beautiful. And the best part was that the cake tasted as good as it looked!!!

Pickup for the cake was breezy -- they even placed some fresh flowers we picked out on the cake.
I wish this place was closer to me, I'd order all my cakes from here!

Great bakery and brunch spot - all of the skillets looked amazing (this was the Californian). Would recommend the Bloody Mary - very hearty. Friendly staff overall. I d recommend making a reservation. It was pretty crowded. Wanted to try the almond croissant, but they ran out...guess that is kind of a good sign.

Amazing brunch. I got to try the nutella nuts French toast and the smothered and covered skillet. The French toast was delicious and super pretty. The skillet was also tasty but I feel like the star of the show was the French toast. Pricey but really great brunch!

Breakfast here has a lot of delicious items you rarely see like Shepard's pie, beef stew, or full Irish breakfast. Had their shepards pie and waffles and the pie was a well balanced skillet and really wow'd us. Restaurant has a pretty and open design and their cakes are also beautiful

Came because I saw great reviews on Pinterest. When we arrived at 2:30 the waitress rudely informed us they would be closing at 3. My mother asked if we could look at a menu, which the waitress all but threw at us, and again she insisted they were closing at 3. We asked when then kitchen closed, and she again said 3. It did not seem like she wanted to serve us so we left.

We haven't been to the La Jolla village in a long time. So on our visit this beautiful summer day we strolled past the Sugar and Scribe Bakery. We had no prior knowledge of it, but it looked nice from the outside and there were several patrons. So we went in for a coffee and pastry. Bad decision! The coffee was as bitter as I have ever tasted. Even with cream, it was totally undrinkable. The blackberry and cheese Danish I ordered was obviously MORE than a day old. It was dry, hard, and the toppings were not fresh. Again, unpalatable. Service was mediocre. We had to wait for the bill and finally went to the register to pay and were summarily told "Pay your server." 20 bucks down the drain!

First time ever here, while in town, during Covid-19. Brought food back to hotel. Incredibly delicious!!!!! Excellent quality and taste. Super nice staff. (The brown on the eggs is port cheddar cheese ). Will be back and highly recommend.

My wife and I bought our wedding cake from here. The cake tasting was fun and definitely a sugar overload! Our wedding cake was decorated exactly how we were picturing! The cake was delicious. The price was a little high but the quality was good. We would recommend this place!

Came here with my family today. We came for lunch and the food was amazing. My sister and I got the grilled cheese and it was delicious!! We rated the grilled cheese 5 stars and the also the pancakes. If we camr back to Sam Deigo, we'd definitely come back here. The service is amazing. The food comes quick and the seating is awesome.

No stock

No stock

They used to have the best cupcakes. Then one day they started replacing the large cupcakes with a smaller dried out version.

They always have ZERO stock anytime I go (usually around 10:00-11:00AM). With a cupcacke free overcrowded facility with no parking, the only part left is the resteraunt. Personally, I won't eat in a resteraunt full if dogs (cats maybe). ...I would take a pass on this one.

Great spot for a weekend brunch. Our wait was about 40 mins so we took a quick walk to the beach. We ordered the S&S hot chocolate which looked and tasted amazing. So did the smothered skillet and the Kensington benedict.
The servers were great and the ambience was nice too.

I love this place! Had a cute patio area that we were seated at. Great weather in San Diego so that was perfect for us. Nice, relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter was great. Very attentive and had good suggestions for us.

Now on to the food... I wish I could have ordered more!! LOL!! Menu was solid and had a lot of delicious options. Excellent food. Great portions. A very nice spot to brunch. All the other customers seemed to love their food as well. They were having French Toast, Skillets and various Benedict s. We got a Benedict and Tuna Salad on a Croissant. The poached eggs on the Benedict was perfect, the accompanying salad was very good and satisfying. There was a generous portion of tuna on the sandwich and by the way, this is also a bakery so the pastries and croissants and bread are out of this world!! Definitely on my favorites list!!

Luckily the food was good, but going out to eat is about more than just the food. Once seated, we were informed about the strict 1:15 limit to dining and asked to confirm that was okay. From there, our service was uninspired and ultimately caused a delicious meal to end with a sour taste. We won't waste our time going back, it is worth the wait to go next door to The Cottage.

For the owners, considering Chef Maeve's reputation, why wouldn't you put the pastries or a pastry taster on the menu? Seems like a giant miss.

The New King sandwich was amazing! I am not a fan of eating out cause usually it tastes better when I make it at home. Not in this case... I will be coming back. Almost forgot to mention the unbelievable bakery... Again, I bake at home but this bakery has some amazing things. This is a gem of a place.
