We ordered an elderberry naked cake for our wedding cake, and it turned out amazing! We didn t need any fancy cake covered with fondant and decorated with jewels and flowers to please us or any of our guests who shared in the enjoyment of it. The simplicity of our cake not only looked great on its own, it was delicious! The cake was soft, moist, and not too sweet. I am not a dessert person at all, but I would definitely come back for this cake!

Well to be honest I was a bit skeptical when I saw the menu. I didn t find many options I liked, so I went with a safe option; omelette with mushroom and cheese. Was shocked, it tasted fantastic. The omelette tasted great, the bread was really good and the potatoes was amazing. I think the best part was the potatoes, make sure you get them!

Very piss poor service. This was my first and last time here, but I will admit that this place has great decor and it's all eye catching. I was asked indoors or outdoors, I chose outdoors and was seated inside. I was served water and I had asked about the latte to see if it had an art finish because I've never had one. I said, "I'll have one of those" but for some reason my server had just walked off. I continued to wait for over 30 minutes to place a drink and food order. It was explained to me by a second server that they were changing shifts and apologized for the wait. There obviously is a lack of communication between staff and no care for their guests. Something small to add, the servers are just in fact servers, I failed to see one single smile from any of that staff. The food wasn't anything amazing and can be simply made at home. I also thought that it was heavily over priced. I do not recommend this place. Keep scrolling.

I've been here twice now and both times were exceptional. My kids can be a bit of a handful at times, and definately walk around with too much energy, but the wait staff here is always nothing but polite and patient, making them (my daughter, especially) feel very welcome and very special. That alone is worth a positive review, but when paired excellent coffee, good cocktails, and wonderful food, then you've got a real winner on your hands. The food is a little pricier than I usually pay, but you really do get what you pay for. Average entree has been 14/15 bucks for me and 4 bucks for a cappucino, but the portions are grest, the food is superb, and the coffee is crafted with care and quality. If you haven't been, you need to go. I suppose it is also worth mentioning that they've had a couple people on food network now (the owner won the competition).

Amazing food. The smoked salmon Benedict with the dill sauce was amazing, as well as their brioche French toast. Coffee was fabulous. I wanted to eat everything in their bakery. Took it to go because of a long wait.

Thank you, Sugar and Scribe Bakery for treating your local firefighters to fresh blueberry pie!! It was amazing. How thoughtful to appreciate us on this wonderful 4th of July.

This bakery is very great, and a nice place to come for breakfast, and midday meals. The desserts and treats were delicious, and the lunch in particular, tasted amazing! I loved everything I had to eat, and I reccomend this bakery.

This place has wonderful breakfast food and an amazing (and beautiful) bakery. There are some exceptions but most of the baked goods are enormous! Prices are on par with other places in this area.

Definitely a keeper. Best breakfast in town. In fact, brunch portion is a better description. Courteous and knowledgeable service by the crew. Even the hot water tastes good. Half and half served in a very cute puppy jar.

Awesome confectioneries and brunch spot. The decor and dining experience are worth every minute of wait times which can very well be over an hour on Weekends.
One of few places that offer benedicts over salmon. First time visitors with a sweet tooth should definitely get the S&S hot chocolate.

: Smothered and covered skillet, Kensington benedict, S&S hot chocolate

This place was awful. It looks super cute and cozy but it s not. We visited a few weeks ago (I m pregnant so it took me a bit to get my reviews down) and will never go back. The coffee was extremely bitter and the food was just not good. I ordered a breakfast skillet with chicken. The chicken smelled like it had turned bad. It was the foulest smell I ve ever smelled. The egg whites tasted old too. My toddler had French toast that tasted like the frozen toaster stuff you get at the grocery store. My husband had some sugary cereal pancakes that were just kinda tossed together. The environment was very haughty and the bathrooms were a wreck. There was dust and dirt covering a storage bench of sorts and it looked broken. The floor was dirty. When you walk to the bathrooms you walk passed an exposed kitchen with people cooking but then there is the back kitchen which had stuff stacked all along the walls and looked filthy as well. This looks like one of those kitschy places you see on Kitchen Nightmares. It was also really expensive for the terrible food. Don t go here if you want decent food.

Really delicious food that really challenged a lot of my expectations for an egg Benedict. The Cali Benedit with BBQ pork was super delicious and had some very surprising flavor combinations that worked really well. The egg with the avocado, pulled pork, and English muffin paired perfectly with each other. The classic simple side salad had just the rigjt blend of brightness, bite from the arugula and delicious shaved cheese. Service was fantastic and extremely short wait times for such delicious food.

I m so disappointed! I ve ordered cakes for birthday parties and the bakery s customer service was wonderful. We have purchased bakery items and coffee and we ve received stellar customer service. I decided to bring my family and friends from out of town to try the restaurant for the first time on 07/27/19 for brunch. The food was delicious but the customer service was terrible. First, I made a reservation but was told our table was not ready. We waited for at least 15 minutes for our table. Then, they sat us under a leaking AC vent. We alerted the server (Desiree) and she was nonchalant about it and did not offer any solutions. We asked for a different table and she said the tables were full. In the end we had to rearrange our seating to avoid the leak. Our orders didn t come at the same time. Desiree seemed very reluctant to serve us (we noticed we were the only people of color in the restaurant). We timed how long it would take our server to notice that we needed more water. She never did. We had to ask for more water after 30 minutes. Bottom line: This establishment is tolerant of such discriminatory behavior from such a waitress.

This place has the worst staff in La Jolla. So rude and unwelcoming. The food and desserts are very mediocre. Such a disappointing experience. There are so many better options in the are for food, coffee, and dessert.

Love this place! Went mid week to avoid the weekend brunch crowds. Food was phenomenal, I'm now ruined for any other pancake after trying the lemon curd pancakes here. Definite must!

A really nice, cute brunch place. Super nice staff. The owner and chef was walking around talking with customers. Everything on the bakery side looked absolutely delicious.
The Veg Works sandwich was mouth watering, especially with chicken.
The mimosa flight was delicious. Had peach, pineapple, grapefruit, and lavender lemonade and would highly recommend them all.

Sugar and Scribe made the most beautiful gluten-free pastries for our wedding. We settled on the red velvet for our cake and ordered pie bites in strawberry-rhubarb and mixed berry and everything was so delicious. The red velvet was super rich and chocolatey plus moist and you would never know it was gluten free. On top of being everything being scrumptious the cake was gorgeous, semi-naked with flowers it was so beautiful my dessert table was stunning.

What a delightful restaurant! We stopped in for breakfast during a vacation to La Jolla. I had the AMAZING Lemon Curd Pancakes, and my husband had a breakfast sandwich. We were both really impressed with the flavor and quality of the food. All of the baked goods in the case right by the door looked incredible. My only minor complaint is our server seemed a little annoyed to be working... but it didn't take away from the yummy food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Food and Drinks are always superb! The pastries and desserts look like art. The prices are reasonable.

We did takeout, so only had to wait for a coffee to be made, but we won't be dining in or outside anywhere until the Covid pandemic is over or we have a vaccine.

Got to see the amazing baker/owner in action this morning. She was up baking croissants at 2am! I had a delicious coconut latte (bringing back memories of Hawaii) and the breakfast sandwich on a beautifully laminated croissant with avocado and bacon. The hubby had The Kingsman Toast, which was delicious as well. Of course we had to grab lots of goodies to go: Strawberry and prosecco marshmallows, s mores marshmallows, Boston Creme Cromuffin, scones and a peaches and creme danish. Ahhh... can t wait to come back!

This is a quaint cafe-bakery, there's a little to-go bakery area, but also a full service indoor/outdoor area. The menu isn't the largest, but it has enough options for a good variety. The prices are not that expensive, but in a good range for a decent meal and good quality food.

I got the the sligo scramble, it comes with a side salad and a piece of bread. The presentation was very good, and it looked tasty. The food was a good portion, and it was flavorful. A good vegetarian option.

Nicely organized place, all the goodies looks so good I didn't even know what to try first. Brownie didn't even make it to picture was eaten immediately. Wheat bread looks good will update review once it gets tasted.
