Fun place. Went to the Z-Cafe on the lower level for a change for lunch. Not as fancy, and this area is a la carte. Chose exactly what I wanted - including sides and chicken. A little less expensive. Very relaxed dining. In my opinion, a better way to dine. Love the regular dining rooms, but was by myself. I am not fussy.
Went for dinner on a Wednesday night and my patience was truly tested. From the time we were seated it literally took 11 minutes for someone to come over to our table and it was only after we flagged another waitress down to find who our server was. Once our waitress finally came to deliver our drinks I paid attention to how many other tables she had....total of three and that included our table. By the way our service was you would have thought she had 10 tables. She did have a larger table of six or eight and was certainly giving them enough attention cause she never came around to us always had to find someone to get her. Maybe we should have joined the other table to get noticed! I typically don't write bad reviews but for the money you pay here it was certainly a disappointing time at dinner. Will be a long time before we return again.
The food was awesome (as usual.) The Server (Nicole) was absolutely AMAZING! She very was highly proficient, extremely professional AND one of thee friendliest (if not thee friendliest) we've ever met in all our years of returning to your establishment! Zehnder's, you have a real treasure/gem, and her name is Nicole!

I get meals at the Z Cafe in the basement. Im not a fancy eater, usually kfc is good enough for me. But this meal in every single way is better than fast food chicken. The potatoes are magical, the mac and cheese tastes like it sticks to my ribs, the biscuit is so big but flaky I want a pillow made of them. The chicken breading is not overly crunchy or greasy tasting. This is like a meal from a relative that spent their whole life cooking for loved ones.
I admit getting to Frankenmuth sucks, its in the middle of nowhere but the trip is worth it for this meal. This chicken dinner is not just for retired church groups on a day trip. Go to the Z Cafe in the basement where you can be in and out in 7 minutes with a world class meal.

Oh, come on...If you've been here then you know and if you haven't then it is definitely worth the trip. Frankenmuth, MI is a very quaint town seeped in culture unlike any you'll find in the U.S. It is a Bavarian themed town and open and waiting to share their well-known culture with everyone. Zehnder's and the Bavarian Inn across the street have been serving up food for decades and Michiganders and tourists from all over the world have enjoyed their experiences here. I recommend the chicken, as these all-you-can-eat dinners are what they're known for, but they have full menus too. Now is the perfect time to go as the crowds are gone and there are no long lines currently because of the pandemic, so you'll get right in either for the full restaurant experience or if you prefer, you can get your food to go. After your meal, you can stroll through their very cool gift shops. There is a plethora of photo opportunities available inside Zehnder's or outside and throughout the town. I was just there again this past week and make this a routine thing for us. I have no affiliation to Zehnder's or Frankenmuth other than I love going there and I believe you will as well.

Visited the carry-out area in the basement and purchased Chicken Noodle soup to go, which was excellent, as usual. If you're in the area, and you have any interest in Chicken Noodle soup, this place has the best. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

BUT, IF YOU COME HERE, BUT AN ASSORTMENT PLATTER WHERE YOU TRY THEIR FABULOUS CHICKEN, BUT ALSO SOME TRADITIONAL GERMAN MEATS! THE WHOLE CITY OF FRANKENMUTH WILL TAKE YOU HOURS TO SEE, BUT END THE DAY HERE!!
Not too much to say about this place. It s just legendary and historical. With that being said, I was not too impressed with their chicken, it really lacked flavor which was shocking to me... But the rest of their food was pretty good, and super filling. Outstanding and timely service. The atmosphere can be overwhelming with how many people are there, but not too crazy. Not a fan of how simple desert was. Overall, I ll be coming back.

Family style was skimpy. There were 10 of us and the girl brought tiny portions of stuff, not enough for 4 people, let alone 10. Took her forever to come back, then she has another tiny portion. Not impressed for the price.

The food here is abundant at a reasonable cost. Not everything is up to snuff but overall good value. At times the service here could stand to be improved upon yet at other times when visited everything was fine so no consistency.

Make sure to call ahead for reservations to shorten wait time, especially for large groups or to reserve a room. The staff brings generous refills. There is a buffet on Sundays and some Saturdays during the Christmas and Easter holidays.
The family dinner is always a great meal to share with family. Its been a family tradition for as long as i can remember. Everything they bring out is flavorful and well prepared. Never had a bad meal at zehnders. After the meal its always fun to go downstairs and browse the shops either for a nice loaf of bread or ssome little trinkets to remind you of the great time and good memories zenders provideds.
Good service, everyone comes for the chicken dinner but I had the Reuben sandwich. Tender and half was more than enough. Husband had the chicken club. Ditto. A lot of food. Come hungry!

We didn t have a wonderful experience at Zehnders. We stopped with the family as a recommendation from my aunt, and it was like one of those places that all the local grandma and grandpas love because it s a local tradition, but the food wasn t that good. My chicken wasn t cooked all the way through, my wife didn t like here meal, we hardly saw our waitress, and it was expensive. If you want to stop for the local hype and tradition, you may love this place. We didn t have a good experience.

This was our 1st time here. We had the all you can eat for $22.95. All of the food was very good. Our waitress was very friendly. I would recommend this place. Very cool little town to visit.
Total lack of customer service department!! Went for my daughters birthday, and in rewards program so was expecting her meal to be free, but I guess since my daughter had just turned 19 she was removed from the card. We were not aware of this and the server went to customer service to see if an exception could be made. She informed us that customer service told her no and that we needed to sign up our daughter on her own but still she would not get her free birthday meal. My wife went to the customer service office and the very unfriendly staff in the office only told her to read the terms and conditions. So after I paid my bill I took the cards from my wife and went to the office i said to take out our information from the system. I guess Zenders over the years of growing figures that customer service is not needed anymore. Well lost a customer who used the restaurant and hotel/waterpark because when I walked into the office and aked to be removed the lady's were like, sure no problem. I won't give my money to a company that does not value its customers.
I came in expecting a tourist trap (which it is) but was pleased with the overall experience. We went on a weekday and were seated right away. Chicken was crispy and light, and the mashed potatoes went well with the gravy. The hyped Butter noodles weren't very good, they were soggy and swimming in a pool of butter. Service was quick and friendly. For a tourist restaurant in a tourist town, Zehnder's is a good choice.
I love this place! It is a family style eating and you can have refills on anything! The staff is well trained and very happy. They get very busy and I world highly recommend reserving a table ahead of time! Definitely coming back again!
Overpriced Fried Chicken with all the fixings nothing too good nothing too bad it's more the experience than the food
Very delicious food and reasonable prices for the amount of food you get. They give you all kinds of appetizers along with soup. Dinner comes with all sorts of sides but the noodles are my favorite and then you get ice cream. Super friendly staff, but get the chicken, all you can eat for less than 25 dollars with all the above.
If you live in Michigan and don't staycation here, you don't have a soul!
Zehnders is very clean. Great food, a lot to see. Expect to buy. It's worth it.
Family friendly fun for the day. It takes a full day to shop this behemoth. If it's just a lunch or dinner you're looking for and a nice stroll through the town, then a few hours is all you need. Lots of things to do and see.

Absolutely loved everything about this place! Loved my birthday dinner with my sister! The waitress was so friendly, we didn't have to ask for anything! The wait was kind of long but we'll worth the wait. The ice cream amazing. I drove over 500 miles to return to this place, so worth the drive from Virginia. If I could of gave it a 10 star I would of!

They had a decent system set up for the carry out orders. You order then drive up to a numbered spot and call to check in. Some spot numbers were out of order which may be confusing to some customers. The number to check in and let them know you are there is the general number for the entire hotel/restaurant/etc. It would be nice if they had a direct line for the drive up orders so customers can avoid listening to the whole Zehnder's spiel. (No offense I just want my chicken)

It was very good. The food as always is the same. Its very good. Its been awhile 4weve came back here and i remembered how good the food was. And it still stayed the same. That is saying something. Im glad we came. We came with my mom this time and she said she will definitely go back..we got seated right away and ordes taken right away and food got hear fresh, right away. Bread first, then the 1st roll of cranberry mix which is to die for as alwas, the soup, coleslaw, beans and pasta salad, amazing!
Then the chicken, stuffing, mashed potates and gravy, Squash andmore chicken... yup. Definitely coming back material to me icecream is a nice touch. I got their peppermint this time .

Maybe it was because I remember it with Rose colored glasses, but the fried chicken (that thing everyone goes there for!!) Was pretty average. We went on a busy day, but after an hour of waiting I can honestly say their fried chicken was mediocre at best. That being said, the sausage and sauerkraut was very good, as was many of the side dishes including buttered noodles. Its Frankenmuth so expect high prices, but I was hoping the quality would match a little more to the price.
