I have been a Y member for nearly 30 years all over the US. The Port Arthur YMCA is better than nothing, but still not good. Don't ever leave anything unattended here because it will get stolen (e.g. shampoo, swim trunks, swim goggles, etc.). The men's locker room is filthy. The front desk staff is very friendly and accommodating. This is the only Y in the country where they close the indoor pool during thunderstorms. I have brought this up with the management and even showed them the Aquatics International research showing that lightning is not a threat to indoor swimmers but they just blew me off.

As a South Carolina resident, having my child "enrolled" to the YMCA on Port Arthur TX for her summer vacation with her dad, I am EXTREMELY unpleased with their services. Apparently staff members are not well trained when it comes to enrolling children. My child is 3years old (YMCA in Port Arthur is only licensed to have 5-12 children) was enrolled in their summer camp by one of the staff members. Obviously we asked before we decided to enroll her and we were told that she could go to the summer camp and we had to bring her immunization records pay registration fee (which we did) and she just had to bring a lunch bag every day. One her first day she was rejected because staff members informed us wrong and my 3year old child could not go to the YMCA's summer camp. Now I am in South Carolina having my child with out a day care during the day, having to find a serious day care that does take enrollment seriously. Not only that when I called to ask for a reason on why my child was rejected on her first day their only response was "we refunded the money back". Horrible service, not well trained staff member, most importantly during my phone call never did I hear an apology. At the end I am glad they did not accept her, because if staff is not trained property to take an enrollment application I can only imagine they type of training to care for these children.

Director, Mrs. Pete Hicks, is an immature, vindictive amateur. He drives customers away with his unethical practices. I had complained many times about rude and abusive employees and members. Nothin' was done. An incident was staged by Steroid Ed, Jeremy and Mrs Hicks to incriminate me. I was unceremoniously stripped of my membership. When I tried to defend myself by email Mrs Hicks called the police! World Gym is a classier and cheaper gym, and I DON'T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH STEROID ED AND MRS. HICKS! I'm pretty sure Ed runs a steroid ring from the gym. Thus, the nickname.

Kids was going through my husband stuff trying to steal while he was on the court! My husband caught him and got into an argument with his mom who justified his stealing and we got asked to leave! Where is it ok to steal from a person?
