My 15 year old son and I liked it.

My 15 year old son and I liked it.
Rented on Lastminute, one week stay in June 2018.

I liked: Ideal location a hundred meters from Central Park, 300 meters from Colombus Station, super easy access. Splendid architecture (don't miss the old copper doors of the swimming pools!), Very friendly staff, one of them having spent 20 minutes on the phone to sort out a shuttle problem), very good cleanliness even in the common sanitary facilities, bathroom huge sports facilities, 2 real swimming pools with lifeguard, sauna, hammam. free wifi, elevators, super quiet neighborhood. Large room open to all. Secure by video.

I liked it a little less: WC in the hallway, spartan room, small food store a little too expensive, not many catering possibilities in the neighborhood, luggage storage a little cramped.

I recommend, more for backpackers than to take Grandma on a trip ...

I've been here twice for a few days each in the last two years. The location is great and the price can't be beat.
The staff is not particularly nice, it is not clean and also very noisy in the corridors at night. It's just not a star hotel :)

Not for those looking for luxury.

Not for those looking for luxury.
The rooms are very spartan. But the beds are comfortable, the cleanliness is optimal and the bathrooms (shared) are spacious and comfortable.
Pool, gym and a very careful retro style.
GREAT location and VERY LOW COST make it a strategic starting point for young couples to tour and enjoy Manhattan

I stayed in this hotel on May. Because of the great location you get, the quality isn't that good for the price you pay. The worst part I experienced from the trip is that they checked me out while i was in my room and a stranger opened the door. They told me they will refund but when I come back from the trip, they've been avoiding the call and they won't do refund. High unlikely I will visit this place again.

I used it as a base to participate in the NYC Marathon and for this purpose in my opinion it goes very well being near the finish line of the race and the pavilion that hosts various events related to the competition. My single room had clean and comfortable shared bathrooms, obviously it's not a 5-star hotel so you have to adapt and know what to expect from this accommodation.

While the rooms are very modest and the shared bathroom just okay the rest of everything was great.

The large staff are all very nice and helpful.

Being able to utilize the entire gym, bathrooms, pool, steam rooms and more made it super enjoyable. That was a great tipping point for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed being next to Central Park, it was lovely!

I used grub hub to deliver dinner one night and ate in the downstairs "dining area."

The tiny shop inside the facility was convenient also, especially for morning coffee.

I would stay here again.

You get a small, basic room, with a twin bed and closet for less than $100 a night, if you book online. There are about 6 to 8 single bathrooms in the hallway with toilets and showers. If you want a private bathroom, it will cost a little more. I had absolutely no problem with the bathrooms. The bathroom doors locked securely, and they were surprisingly clean and well-lit. The only proplem that I had was with the tiny TV in my room. It did not work properly. Also, the view out of the window was of a brick wall. However, if you're on a tight budget and want to be in the middle of Manhattan, you can't beat this YMCA. How much time are you actually going to spend in your room, anyway? It's New York!!!

I dont know where to start.

I dont know where to start.

The room was a disaster!!!! It felt like they didn t cleaned it for weeks. The blanket were dirty and the beds was in so bad conditions that it would have been more profitable to take the mattress and sleep on the floor. The humidity in the room was like 100% and the air conditioner didn t work. The shared restrooms was soooo disgusting. I didn t wanted to open the bag due the risk of having bed bugs.

After talking to the staff, they admitted that they don t put the standard rooms picture on the internet. I was chocked when I heard that.

I left the hostel after one night, even though I paid for 5 nights. And upgraded to a much better hotel.

This wasn t worth the 550 dollars I paid for the room. So after having the worst experience ever in a hotel (traveled A LOT), I strongly recommend you to chose another hostel/hotel.

Through a renovation they had in the locker room, my newly purchased Nike sport bag, my new shoes, towel, new gym clothes and a gold necklace which were all in the bag and locked in my locker got disappeared. Long story short, the manager felt ok to crack the locks off of the lockers without contacting the owners of the lockers. I had to go there back and forth for the course of 2 months only to face the fact that my stuff were gone. The funny thing is they did not accept any responsibilities and even encouraged me to call the cops in case it makes me feel better. And get this; the necklace was the only thing was left from my beloved mom. She was diseased 2 years ago. I'm heart broken and speechless. Never thought going to a gym might brought me so much despair.

I have booked a room at West Side YMCA but the single room I booked was horrible, the air condition was really noisy and the bed was almost breaking to pieces. I cancelled the rest of my stay except for the first night. This was 3 months ago but I haven't received any refund yet. Emails and phone calls regarding the refund are simply ignored. I want my money back! KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THIS HOSTEL!!!

Visiting Ymca member from st Pete Florida. There are more robberies in the men s locker room then they are willing to admit- happened to me- my wallet and phone and my locker had a master lock on it.
I talked to several people who have acknowledged the security issues in this place- don t feel their security people are equipped to handle it- police there often- don t use the locker rooms- or find another place to work out - plus there is no reciprocity with other Ymca s in the us- only limited visits- disappointing place

Terrible, the staff at check in was very grumpy and we did not feel welcome at all. The rooms are tiny and definitely not being cleaned properly, there was all kinds of stains on the walls and floor. The bed made the most noise so everytime I would be tossing and turning my boyfriend would wake up from the bed being so loud. The walls are very thin so we could hear everything going on in the surrounding rooms. A lot of young people come here so we would be woken up at 5 by them singing and screaming in their rooms. The doors of the rooms are very heavy so everytime a door would shut we could hear it. The showers and bathrooms are disgusting and poorly made, they are also very crowded. There is no hot water at all so that was a very bad way to start my day every time. During our stay, someone triggered the fire alarm and we got little to no instructions from the staff. They asked us to come downstairs and after that they gave us no information at all. We saw the fire department pull up and when they left they told us to go back upstairs without any explanation. I did not expect a lot from this place but this was even worse than I could ever imagine. If I could turn back time, I would definitely spend a little more for a clean hotel or hostel with warm showers and nice service.

Probably the worst place I've ever stayed in. The layout is similar to a prison, tiny cells/rooms with bunk beds and a TV. The broken heating was on full so we had to have the window open and Aircon on in December. We really knew what we had let ourselves in for when after checking in we say New York's finest take someone away down the corridor.

I was pleasantly surprised. The location is perfect next to Central Park and only 4 minutes from the subway. The rooms are small but everything in it what you need. I had a room at the end of the hall, where I had my peace. In the room is a safe, cleaned every day and fresh towels. Only the bathroom: there is only one for men and one for women, not enough on my big floor. At night too far to the toilet, so empty bottle used at night. Wifi good but different sites blocked. Prices are great. Will book it again. All staff nice.

Enrolled in the gym membership program. All staff are very nice, but they have been telling me they don't have the cards for WEEKS. So every time I need to wait in line with other hotel guests to get the daily pass. They should have everything ready first. Regretted to enroll in the gym membership program. I give up going there, waste money. Just start going to other private gym in that area. You get what you pay for.

For us that we stayed 10 nights there, it was very good. The relationship between what they offer you and what you pay for is very good, since taking into account that New York City is very expensive, this place has small but functional rooms, at an excellent price, I would only complain about the mattresses that are not very comfortable to say, we arrived so tired that we fell like logs and not even considering the quality of the mattress but if you are someone very "special" and look for comforts of a 5 star hotel, I recommend you look, find One and pay. Keep in mind that many of the complaints that people who stay here have, is that they do not realize that they are paying a fairly accessible price and that if there are many inconveniences in terms of cleanliness it is the fault of the guests, if they were really people considered not to say clean, the common facilities would be much better and there would not be so many complaints, seriously that there is every person that stays in the place, that you do not understand their behavior, so little civilized. The best thing about this place is its location, it is half a block from Central Park and two blocks from two metro stations; three blocks has a square, in which there is WHOLE FOOD MARKET.
The cleanliness of the room is daily, the staff is very friendly and you can use the facilities of a club they have there, which consists of gym, pool and other areas to exercise, that is also a pretty good plus.

I love staying here. It is central to the best entertainment and eating in Manhattan. The best part about the YMCA is the gym and pool. It is 25 yds with 5 wide lanes, and always room for a few laps. And the gym would have to be one of the most extensive and best equipped in the world. The added benefit is the masterful coaching by Abie. He is totally attuned to your special needs and can tailor an entertaining and functional program for you. Enjoy!

Horrible experience, pity that can not be scored with a 0. We threw things (umbrellas and flip flops) of the room that were on the floor, with the excuse that they were on the floor, when we seek a solution, Francesca the director spoke to us very bad, I act in a high-handed and disrespectful way, which is unacceptable ... apart from that the bathrooms were very dirty, the showers were not going well, the beds were not thrown ... I wish I had been in a better place and not have to worry that they would listen to us and give us a solution.

My very first time in NYC, I stayed here for 3 nights and this place made it possible to stay in the heart of Manhattan. YMCA is my first stay. If you stay at less than 10,000 a night in a convenient location in Manhattan and the cleanliness of that room, you can recommend it to people who want to reduce the cost and those who use it for just sleeping. There were many young people in their twenties, but they also had family members.

Bathroom and toilet same room. When taking a shower, luggage is hooked on the outside of the shower room and closed with a curtain. We are on the 9th floor and there are no shampoos for women. For men, it seems that body soap and shampoo were provided. It seems different depending on the floor. When using a shower room, it would be useful to have a bean to make it easy to move.

The room was equipped with a pressure cup, soap, bath towel and a thin blanket. The bed is stiff but not stiff. As there is only one chair, when staying with two people, it is troubled to sit
(Bunk bed bottom height hit head).
If you do not need to clean the room every day, get a do not disturb tag at the counter.

I'll start off with the good: the location is excellent. A 2 minute walk away from a subway station and right opposite central park.

Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. The rooms are ok - however feel slightly like a prison cell. The air-conditioning is incredibly loud and difficult to operate and the floor looks like it hasn't been cleaned since 2010. They did at least have contactless keycards and a safe for every room. The top bunk is difficult to get into because both of the ladders were instructed in our room, and the beds make an awful squeaking noise when there is any movement whatsoever. It appeared that most of the (110v) sockets in our room had also been painted over - and one socket was actually hanging out of the wall.

The worst bit about this hotel, by far, is the bathrooms. I wouldn't mind a communal bathroom if it was done well - however these feel like a massive afterthought. On the 9th floor, there were 3 toilets and 3 showers (per sex) for the entire floor of around 60-70 rooms. To make this worse - only 1 of the showers actually had a showerhead on it. There were no temperature controls - meaning the shower went from freezing cold to boiling hot every minute, and the shower curtains are smaller than the opening - leaving a good few inches on either side that anyone could look through.

If you're coming to New York and care about anything more than location, I'd look elsewhere.

The West Side YMCA shines through the perfect location to Central Park and Times Square is also within walking distance. Comparable to other accommodations, it's also affordable, but don't expect too much.

Unfortunately there is no bathroom, the bed squeaked with every movement (loft bed) and it was also happy to be louder in the hallway in the evenings. With earplugs in the luggage but acceptable.

The location is fantastic. It's very close to Central Park. There was a gorgeous view from my room. The staff are very friendly and courteous. However, it was very pricey, as are so many things in the Big Apple. The bed was not comfortable, but the room was clean. It was inconvenient to have to leave the room to use the washroom, but it is the YMCA, not the Ritz Carlton. I was pleased overall with my stay.

Amazing location in the upper west side. The rooms might be a bit old, but I appreciated the fact that they had rooms for 2 people at affordable prices. Bathrooms were not the best, they could be cleaned more often.

The people at the reception were super helpful and accommodating. And the sports facilities were a huge plus! There are not a lot of common areas in this hostel, so I guess for solo travelers it might be harder to meet other people. I'd stay here again! especially if the bathroom situation is improved.

The hotel has a splendid location right by the park and is within short distance of the subway. The beds are comfortable and there are fitness and swimming possibilities... That being said the hotel is really just a place to kick back after a day in NY! The service isn't extraordinary and I wouldn't pick the hotel for any other reason than the obvious financial perk. The hotel has great wifi strong enough to maintain a Skype call. That is when the wifi is working of course...

The ninth floor is not bad but the collective showers are zero and the water is hard to be hot. As for the room we had a broken radiator and it was too hot. The mattress was very thin and the space limited. Positive point, there is a small supermarket downstairs and a common area for eating.

Every bad thing you read about the bathrooms are true. The location of this place is amazing and the rooms are small, but alright. If you wanna stay in Manhattan relatively cheap, this is the place to be. But on our floor there were only 2 toilets for ladies. One of them had no seat and the other was constantly clogged. Not to mention the showers that you couldn't turn off fully. No hooks for clothes or towels or anything. So if you go here, go to the third floor for a shower. On the third floor is a fitness centre which is decent and has decent showers! You can go there as a guest, so use them!

I wish I could give the location a seven . Before coming here I tried to book the next door Trump hotel . Thanks to my constantly loosing iphones habit so I no longer use iphones but those not-easy-to loose brands, the online booking system has format incompatible problem with my phone so the booking with next door didn't go through. $700 saved. There is no way to beat that. I am a local I just came here for a short stay because house going renovation.

It's pretty neat and clean. All basic needs are decently met. What else am I expecting for the price I paid. Bringing your own shower slides or a flip flop may make your stay much more convenient

The only thing I am worrying is I caught a cold before coming in and coughing is bothering me. I can only hope my cough didn't disturb other guests that much because it's pretty quiet around.

Thank you Y for being around. And thanks for being around Central Park. I am also a member here. I never like indoor exercise. This location is just at the door steps of the park, which makes my refreshing after outdoor exercise every convenient.

Be around for good in general.

Amazing location. I felt safe there.
Perfect for our girls weekend in New York.
I had no idea what to expect as I've never stayed in a hostel. But it was perfect for what we needed, which was a place to lay our heads for a few hours each night. TV and fridge in room. The shared bathroom was down the hall. It was okay. always stocked with hand soap and toilet paper and not crowded.
The employees were very friendly and helpful.
I skipped the little store on the first floor because there was a fruit stand at the corner and a bakery that had cheaper coffee right down the street.

We had a short but really nice visit. The hostel is located central, so that you can reach Times Square within a 15 minute walk. The YMCA is also located near to where the famous "Shakespeare in the park" takes place, which I can totally recommend! The rooms aren't too luxurious, but absolutely answer their purpose. The YMCA can be recommended to everyone, that wants to be active while staying in NYC, the gym area is incredible and spreads over thee levels. It includes a lot of regular gym devices, but also a swimming pool and an extra area for spinning, doing gymnastics or playing basketball. The hostel is very cheap, but we were totally surprised, by what it had to offer. (we weren't too interested in the rooms and public bathes, because we just used them for sleeping)

I was so lucky getting my room and on the top floor! Who said 13 wasn t a lucky number?? The room suited me perfectly but may be small for others, or for two people sharing. Noise travels a bit when people enter/exit their rooms, but that s to be expected and the showers were hot and bathrooms clean. Staff were super friendly and always someone to welcome you. Location is amazing! I will definitely be staying here again! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Location great for hotel but One of the worst parts was that I waited 45 minutes to check in because they were so understaffed. I should have paid more for a better room because the bunk beds with 4 beds were small and the frames are flimsy. I would have been better off getting 2 queens instead of 4 twins. It feels like a prison cell. Functionally, it was a place to sleep. It served its purpose. But there isn t any luxury aspect to the hotel because of the communal bathroom, small rooms, waiting forever to check in.......

I came here due to present my paper at the MobiQuitous. Florida International University paid for my travel expenses, and I chose this location to due the pictures of their rooms. It seemed very spacious and bright; however, it was quite small and simple. They don't have private bathroom, and I saw a mouse in the first floor (I think they are very common in New York). I don't think their service justified their price of 196$ per night

The location of the hostel is top. But there are many negative points: the staff at the check in was very unfriendly, however, the guard was very helpful and accommodating. In order to swim in the pool you have to wear a bathing cap, but this is said only at the pool. You can buy a bath cap around $ 10 at the front desk. Furthermore you have to pay for each piece of luggage which you want to leave in the hostel during the day. At check-in, another $ 10 will be required for so-called usage fees. The beds were very small and the room was dirty. On the bath there was sometimes no soap for washing hands. Most recently, the noise level was very noisy at night. I can not recommend this hostel!

Very good location. In Columbus you can take many subway lines that connect you with anywhere. The neighborhood has many places of entertainment, it is quiet and safe. And there's Central Park across the street, which is perfect for relaxing for a bit after a day of sightseeing.
The rooms are basic but not bad, in our case we saw Central Park from the window. At least in our case the bathrooms were shared, at specific times you had to wait for something but little time as there are quite a few. Very good service, they kept the toilets clean and the beds were made daily.

I had got my index finger caught in between the belt pulley. It hurt so bad and started to bleed I rushed over to the desk where the trainers are to ask for a bandaid where all the sudden I slurred my words and passed out. When I woke up Erica and Miguel rushed to my aid to make sure I was ok and called EMTs. I went to the ER and was found in good health. Erica and Miguel and the security guard that gave me an ice pack for my finger are true Heroes!
