Horrible experience staying at this hotel!

Horrible experience staying at this hotel!
I would definitely not recommend booking this hotel.
The rooms are extremely small and dirty.
I felt like I m going to get some disease after sleeping on this bed.
The stuff was rude and unprofessional. And also I should have read the small letters because because they over charged me upon stuff that I wasn t aware of.

Bad beds, wifi that does not work, excessive heating. The only thing that "worth" this Hostel is that you are in a private and mega-located room .... see if those are your priorities.

Over the years, I have stayed at West Side YMCA a half dozen times and always enjoyed my stay. Besides being one of the most economical places to stay in the city, it is conveniently located to many places of interest and to a subway station. What makes it so appealing to me is the fact that guests are allowed to use the gym, pool and locker rooms during their stay.

The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Considering people paid more than a $100 for a room each night, I expect a better washroom. Besides, the whole hallway smells like piss. The two stars I'm giving is the location of the hostel

Nice location, mediocre facilities- I got a room that looks just like the one in the photos (no hairdryers tho)... I did my research and this is the only hotel you can get a private room around $100 a day in midtown - safe location with nice security- the safe actually works! - never waited to use the shower and had hot water every day.. had no hygienic issues with the room or bathroom but I would rather not use it bare feet.. just bring a flipflop to wear in the shower and it will be okay
FYI they charge an extra $10 a day for fitness and the swimming pool which I never used.. which kinda sucks

My favorite place in NYC, both west side and Vanderbilt, was in both. YMCA is more for the night because after you are out all day, my favorite was YMCA Vanderbilt close to everything, Excellent location, comfortable and pleasant, it is economical with how expensive it is to stay in New York. Looking forward to returning to NYC and YMCA as accommodation.

Can't seem to even get a call back.
Been waiting about a week.
Life in America these days.
Customer "service" is a thing of the past.

The location is good since you have the Colombus circle metro next door and you can walk to most places. Room and bathrooms a bit left that you have to share! Don't pay more for the semi-private toilet xk is a lie. There is a hair dryer on the third floor and gym on the fourth. Highly recommended coffee for $ 2 in the little store below. Quality price is fine.

It's okay for him to spend the day in the street and get to sleep only. Small but comfortable. It would improve the cleanliness of the rooms, daily you made the beds but the floor was not cleaned ..

The Good: The location / price, the GyM and the area of changing rooms, pools, steam and showers. We had no problem with cleaning the room and the staff were generally friendly. You can bathe in the bathrooms in each corridor or go to the GyM showers if you want to bathe more comfortably

The Bad: excessively small rooms, you must be very organized and in our case we pay for the cheapest room, it only serves exclusively to arrive and sleep, the mattresses are of very poor quality, but with how tired the day ended, I didn't even feel it , but if you want something comfortable don't even think about going to this hotel. I repeat "you must be very organized" you cannot arrive and empty your suitcase because there is NO where to put things.

The worst: being a cheap hotel it is used by many young people, boys who are in their 20s and at night they speak loudly in the corridors, knock on doors, dirty the bathrooms, (if they are dirty at times it is due to the misuse that certain people give it and not because of the hotel), in general people who still do not understand what respect is.

The air-conditioning is so poor, the room is hot.

The air-conditioning is so poor, the room is hot.
The bunk bed is not steardy, it shakes and moves even when you change your side, making horrible noise. The shared bathrooms are extremely dirty, very small, the faucets don't work. There is dirt and water standing on the bathroom floor.
The wifi is slow.
In short very very disappointed with such a high price and such low quality .The only good thing is the location.

One-hundred percent amazing and delightful service! This hotel is the best place for your vacation stay or on a business trip. The staffs here are very cordial because they managed to handle all of my requests nicely. Also, the foods, amenities, facilities, and anything else are truly worth it. I really had a great time here! Thank you so much!

On the ground floor, this place has some extremely incompetent and respectless staff members now. One guy must be new. He acted dumb intentionally and treated me like trash. Probably because he has no respect of any customer. There was another staffmember, a woman, that seemed incompetent as well. She acted like she did not know what a community board was. But other people were nice in the past. Bad thing if you have bad employees like that. They make the location look very bad.I dont give bad reviews random. Only if there really is an extreme reason.

Small room, shared bathroom, leaves much to be desired in cleanliness, cigarette smell in rooms, lots of teenage mess, but very well located and at a reasonable price when it comes to Manhattan ... I do not know if I would stay again ...

This hostel is very well located with three subway stops nearby. It has many services and activities such as pool and basketball court covered gymnasium yoga room etc ... and the staff is very friendly. I will be back

I stayed for 15 nights at a Deluxe bedroom with shared bathroom. The advantage of the Deluxe is that the bathroom is private while you're in there (it's not like a gym bathroom). Staff people are not so nice and receptive. There were 2 nights the heating and hot water were off for maintenance. Bathrooms are constantly cleaned but need some maintenance (sinks are almost falling, hangs are broken). Although everything I would stay here again.

Only the location was great at the hostel.

Only the location was great at the hostel.
We had a room that was "newly renovated". Jan only noticed it on the door that got stuck every time it was opened and closed. You had to check like an ice hockey player that it opened.
Me and my buddy booked a double room. So far so good you couldn't sleep properly in the room because everything squeaked with every movement in the bed (tightening screws would help). The hallway always smelled of rotten lettuce and the bathroom smelled strongly of urine even after cleaning. I erect the top personally when I wanted to go to the toilet and a cockroach came towards me.
I recommend you to take another hostel. After all, the metro takes you quickly to the heart of the city

If you want to stay in Manhattan, you either have to pay a lot of money or compromise on comfort. If you want the latter, you're right here. Sure the rooms are not very big and can be cleaner, but the price is also very cheap. After all, the shared bathroom was clean and the staff was very friendly. In addition, the YMCA has a fantastic location. With luck, you'll even get a room overlooking Central Park.

We joined for the racquetball and were told to always have a reservation. When you call to make a reservation the their phone system bounces you around forever and no one PICKS UP THE PHONE! Making a reservation is impossible, not sure how management allows this to continue. Customer service means zero to this location.

This is a prison in the heart of Manhattan.

This is a prison in the heart of Manhattan.
there are no refrigerators, hair dryers, kettles on many floors. only small cells to stay. The amenities are far from the rooms and do not meet the requirements of sanitation.
the rooms have an unpleasant smell of insecticide.
the beds are narrow and old.
windows and air conditioners in disrepair

Small but fine rooms but without garbage bin which is why we had to throw our garbage from the 13th floor. Bathroom was very dirty after I left. Great swimming paradise and indoor maze included.

It must be taken into account that it is a student accommodation ... if you are a tourist and without pretentions in hotels ... for price and locations it is very convenient. You are next to the central park and a few blocks from the subway. The rooms are very small but clean. The shared bathrooms could be cleaner. The attention of the lobby is friendly. In the pb you have a market with the basics and a lobby with tables for breakfast or lunch.

We had a double room with private bath. So far so good, that was also so available. But the room was really run down and for the price you would have something decent with a newer standard expected - even for a hostel.
The location is great, no question, even the large sports area is great. For our second stay, we preferred a more modern and cheaper hostel in Brooklyn, no comparison.

Other hostels have access to microwave and a hot water urn. It wouldn t take much to add these things to the common room area and it would make it so much better for all the people staying.

The location is good. Thats where the good ends. They need to seriously address the noise issues. Guests and cleaners that seem to be cleaning at all hours make sleeping impossible because the doors keep slamming.

Fantastic location. Under 2 mins to Central Park or Columbus Circle. Stayed for 7 nights in a twin room - bunk beds which were fine. This isn't the Ritz remember. Bathrooms were clean and tidy - no issues there. No complaints at all but wish there was a continental breakfast.

There are only 2 advantages to this Hostel: the price (one of the cheapest) and the location (practically across from Central Park in the more expensive square meter of Manrathan). If you take just that into consideration, this is a great place but if you are looking for a little more comfort, better look for another hotel

We stayed in the hostel at the end of October 2012 - at the end of 2012 we also took part in Hurricane Sandy here. In itself, the storm wasn't as bad as expected. Nevertheless our flight was postponed by 1 week.
The people in the hostel were very condescending and unfriendly from the start - after the storm it got worse and worse. Hostel room prices were increased, this can of course be done with insecure hostel guests ... Service left a lot to be desired, also a very big drawback was the cleanliness - carcasses in the bathrooms - the only answer from the front desk was that this was in New York would be normal in bathrooms ...

Something positive about the hostel was the fitness area and the fitness selection, they were very good.

All in all I can only say: hands off !!

The best place to stay if you want to be near to all the great places Manhattan an offer.

It is not the poshest place to stay but price-wise, this will suffice.

Will be glad to book once again!

I love staying at the West Side YMCA because the cost of a room is one of the lowest for a private room anywhere in NYC. Plus, as a guest, you can use the gym, pool, and locker rooms, (sauna and steam bath included).

It is a very different thing. This is where the gas rack is. I hope you will never come. The outside noise is really heavy. I am very happy with the Hwajeongsil Sha and the thread which is used for use. The staff is very friendly. I think this is the way they translate to Google.

If you reduce the cost to New York ... you can enjoy more! ^^
If you go there ... this place is more affordable and close to the center of the city, safe and park next to it.
Normal time is here because the nature of the public seems to vary!
So it's more reassuring and it's better than just a hotel!
It seems more practical and reasonable than the all-in-one hotel in the United States.
Enjoy the inconvenience!

Unfortunately we did not read the reviews before. Condition of the building very run down. Most things did not work (right). Cleanliness was not good either. The staff with ymca t shirt were rude. It was amazing that it could be done differently. On the floors with offices it was modern and decently air conditioned. Do you know what the concept is.

For being one of the places of lodging of smaller cost in the zone, it seems to me suitable. On the other hand to take into account, at least in the rooms of the 13th floor. There is no air circulating in the room, which has only one window. I was there every day of my stay with the air conditioning turned on when it was zero degrees outside. When opening the small window no air came in. Another is the semiprivate bathrooms that for those who do not know are many individual bathrooms in which one accesses with the room card. Once inside nobody can open ... In theory. The cleaning people can open it equally and that happened to me twice. Very unpleasant! I still do not understand the logic, if it is closed inside it is because there is a person there! Well ... The rest was not bad. Luck!

If you are looking for stay nearby good area in NYC this place is nice, rooms are way too small and feels like Jail as very small windows to see through.
Bathrooms are common on each floor, cleanliness was good. Place is very neaby from Central park,Subway station, coffee shops , mall and times square.

During my vacation in nyc my hotel did not have a fitness center and since the YMCA is my home gym I was able to enter for free. IT IS THREE FLOORS. HUGE GYM. Awesome equipment. They have loads of foam rollers! Lots of weights!

The advantage of this place is the price to be able to stay in a private room, which has air conditioning, a small TV, dresser, lamp and some hangers. Good location, right next to Central Park (West) and two blocks from the subway. You can fill the water bottle at the exit of the 4th floor elevator.

The room is small but the biggest problem are the bathrooms. A bathroom with only three cabins for an entire floor (more than 20 rooms). It gets dirty and always full.

I stayed in the YMCA WEST SIDE in February 2011. The advantage of this Hostel is the location. 1 minute to go to the central park. 15 minutes to walk to the time square is a huge pro. But the Hostel itself isn't quite OK. The rooms are extremely small. But that's not unusual for NY. A big disadvantage is the rolling bed. In addition to this I have to say, that the condition of the room is poor and neglected. But the biggest contra is the bathroom. It is a bathroom on the floor. The shower had two settings: hot as hell or cold as ice. Mirrors wete broken and it was in a lousy condition. The personal contrast were friendly and gentle. All in all I have to say, the hostel is a hostel and not a hotel, but also for the low-standards of a hostel very bad. But if you just wanna stay to sleep and make the rest of the day and most of the night sightseeing and explore the city, according to the location and the good price for New York, you can take this alternative. For just a place to sleep I can recommend this hostel, but only for this reason.

My best friend and I reunited last summer after eight long years! We had the best time together at the YMCA in Manhattan. So close to everything and especially Central Park! It was the best!!!

Booked the room for a friend of mine who couldn't come because of an emergency in the family and the YMCA was not even interested to work some deal out. Very disappointing and totally lack of customer service.

Location is superb, easy access to Columbus circle and central park is across the street. Beds are just ok, though they could improve. We booked a twin room and the way they advertise it makes you believe there's a private restroom, but there is not. Doors can make a lot of noise, housekeeping was very noisy in the morning. Bathrooms on the 13th floor were generally clean, and shower was nice. The heating system was always too hot and made me sweat twice during the night and there's no way to adjust temperature or a termostat. You get what you pay for it.

I only know the gym and pool but those are great. If you are looking to get your workouts done without all the thrills of Equinox this the place for a 3rd of the coast and yes there is a basketball court and spin studio with great bikes too.

I have been stopping at the YMCA Side West, since 1994, when I first met her. It is the cheapest and best located place in Manhattan, close to the subway and buses. Half a block from Central Park. You have to use your gym, the pool and the rest of your activities. Recommendable.

Very nice memory of this hotel with minimal comfort but excellently placed with access to the hamam, sauna and swimming pool. The reception staff is amazing. As soon as I arrived on Christmas Day, they reserved for me all the attractions I had taken and every day the reception guy greeted me as if I were his friend. The bedding is average, the room small and spartan but clean enough. Considering the price, I did not expect better. This is the equivalent of the formula 1 in terms of comfort but located in the middle of Manhattan for a low price. If you want comfort take another hotel especially for a girl but if you are not too fancy and have a small budget, this hotel is ideal

This is a very nice place.

This is a very nice place.
However, the shower room is dirty. The room is very hot in summer because there is no air conditioner and only an outside air fan. The TV is also bad. You had better stay at a hotel where you can pay a little more.

Tiny rooms, shared bathrooms. Not renovated for some time. But this location for this price?! Amazing!
I did not have a chance to use gym or pool, but I have heard they are ok. Helpful service.
