Our daughter has taken swim at the Y for 2 years! The swim staff is outstanding and very supportive. We look forward to her going there for the afterschool program this year. If I have one critique, it would be that it might be time to upgrade the locker room.

Is much more than just a gym/afterschool/youth rec center it is a Community. When I am there to work out the staff will ask about the kids and our family. The Y improves the physical, mental, and spiritual well being of everyone involved with it. I am glad that our kids are growing up in the Y Family!

This is posted as someone without kids, but this is probably the best gym in town right now. I have been to others, but I miss the family atmosphere when I walked in people actually seem to care how you were progressing with your workouts, or even other areas in life. Knew many a people that still go here, and honestly now wish I never left.

The price may have gone up, but for what you're paying no other facility can match it that's one thing people don't see.

I know it's good for the community and for people that can't afford a place to go work out but what if you want to just be a normal person to work out there. it's just weird and stinky and old and it's inordinately expensive and there are all these extra fees like a building fee and first time fee and an annual fee, and the monthly fee is excessively expensive (like 35$ or something?)... I'm just going to go over to crunch for 9.95

I ve been a member for as long as i can remember. The leadership and staff are second to none. Our Y is a special place and I highly recommend my patients become members. It s my choice above all others to get into great shape and have fun!

I love the YMCA. I use to go while I was in elementary school. The bus was free. I now attend BHL and it cost extra for me to ride the bus there. Great couminnity and staff. I really like the YMCA otherwise!

The Athens Y is a great place for families to exercise, swim, and play. Highlights of the facility include a rubber outdoor track, indoor and outdoor pools, quality childcare, and friendly staff.

Stay away!! If I could give a lower rating I would. I am new to the area and new to the city I had called and inquired about the programs that this y offer. When I started asking about various prices for membership they transferred me to the membership manager she got an attitude. I guess I was asking too many questions for her and she told me she was not answering any other question because she didn't have to. I told her this is not the kind of attitude you want to have when you're trying to get membership to go up and trying to increase new members you want to try to be as inviting as you can to make sure members want to join. Jacquline is not professional at this is not the right kind of attitude to have nor is this the kind of person that you want have running membership they have just lost a valuable person such as myself and I'm gonna make sure any other person that run into them tell them not to go to Athens YMCA because attitude sucks and she lacked professionalism. And if she was looking to secede and not having any more members join the Athens YMCA this is a great way to start. They definitely don't ever have to worry me ever coming there.

We love this place. Despite the age of the building, it s generally very clean and well maintained. Everybody is super nice, staff and participants. The offering of classes for adults is acceptable compared to other y s I use across the country. The professionalism of the instructors is very high in my opinion vs other Y s. Guess that s because Athens has so much talent per capita.

My 10 & 11 year old did the summer camp here and had the best time! Worth every penny. They came home every day so excited to tell me about all the fun activities and wonderful counselors. I will definitely be signing them up again next summer!

The current Director focuses primarily on children's programs at the neglect everything else. The people who make decisions on things such as gym equipment never use it, which leads to poor decisions. They are completely out of touch with the needs of the majority of their paying members and are badly in need of a management overhaul.

I have been coming here for years.
The staff is absolutely fantastic and almost all of them seem like the truly love their job.
It is convenient and has something for everyone!
However....
There are leaks in the ceilings that you can see black mold growing all over. It has been getting worse and worse and hasn t seemed to be dealt with yet. Maybe they are trying to figure it out...but it s been a while and us members haven t SEEN any progress with it.
That s kind of a let down when memberships are 4 times as much as every other gym in Athens that keep their facilities in tip top shape.
My aunt has a membership at the Y near Gainesville...and it is $10 a month. I pay $56 here for the family plan because mine alone would have been $40 anyways!!

I have been working out at the YMCA in Athens for almost 2 months. Within this time there have been so many mix ups with my membership and the polices. Today I was told that my 2 year old nephew couldn't swim although I am on the family membership that cost me over $300. I am canceling my membership as of today. I have had nothing but issues and very poor costumer service since day one. We will be taking our workout elsewhere and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!! I ended my membership on 4.21.16 I have yet to receive a call back from them. They obviously could care less about you after they get their "non refundable" money!!

The Athens YMCA has many amenities! We have gone to the gym here, which is pretty well equipped. It has a nice child care area for parents that need a workout. They have a separate womens cardio room and a unisex large gym area. They also have a swimming pool and many different classes available.

We have also gone to other activities there such as consignment sales, which have all been great. I would recommend this place!!

Jacqueline is horrible! She is so nasty with her attitude and is disrespectful with her communication approach to others. I've had many parents and former employees express how difficult it was to work for her at this place. I've visited a few times and she always seems irritated when someone asks her something and micro manages the front desk people. Got to do better.

I have been to this YMCA for years. The facility is great! I love the pool, classes, and location. The only recurring issue is the staff customer service. If you are thinking of getting a family plan ask them to be specific about who you can and CANNOT add to your plan. You'll end up signing up paying the enrollment fee and when you and the rest of your family members begin to go to the gym they tell you last minute that not all your family members are able to go, due to an age limit. And yes they were all immediate family. I just wished that was communicated with us when we made the family plan. It just really seems like they are all about your money . Please please work on your staff for better communication and customer service.

Friendly staff and everything you need to get in a great workout. Every type of person works out here, from racquetball champions to record-holding powerlifters. They lose one star for facilities. The outdoor track is nice but the building could use an update. Don't get me wrong, the YMCA is definitely making forward progress. Bonus perk: month-to-month memberships.

The Athens YMCA facility is awesome and offers a wide variety of programs for all ages. Won t find a better deal in town offering indoor/outdoor pools, lots of field space, track, walking trails, weight room, cardio room, 3 gyms, and tons more!

The staff was so friendly and seemed like they genuinely cared and had a passion for what they did. Then they offer all kinds of programs for the kids and have all kinds of adult classes. Indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, steam room. I would highly recommend!

A nice YMCA with 3 gyms a good size pool a fitness center with all the aerobic machines you could want as well as free weights and many weight machines and athletic fields and track out side. There is a big child care center. Also youth basketball leagues. Many many programs. Very nice friendly staff and a good summer day camp. Basi a allyou could want from a Y.

We love being able to put our kids in the child watch so we can go exercise. It's been a fantastic cold-weather alternative to the parks we usually go to in the warmer weather. My husband and I can get in a machine, lift weights, walk on the track outside, or other activities. My only complaints are that there is often not much for our kids to do for exercise inside because the gyms are locked, or rooms downstairs are locked, or lights are turned out, and my husband often can't play basketball because of the games held in the gyms. My kids do enjoy the well-kept playground and track when the weather is warm enough.
If you found this review helpful, please give it a thumbs up! Thanks!

I came with my daughter for a trunk or treat that was advertised in Athens. The flyer mentioned nothing about registering. So when I bring my child, they turn us away because she didn't register. I told a lady that works there, with the picture of the flyer, it mentioned not registering. She said was like"oh well, sorry. " My daughter was so disappointed. Had I known, i would have registered but ive never in my entire life had to register for a trunk or treat. Smh. Such a let down during this time where a child can't even have over moment of enjoyment at a place such as this.
