The YMCA of oakville is very nice and clean inside

They have lots of activities to do when you go there

There is a Basketball Court and wherever I go to the Y I try to go to the court

At the upstrias gym I highly recommend the bicycle workout
And for most of the workout in the Upstairs gym they have a tv including Netflix, TV Channel, and a bunch more

I go on wednesday mostly and it is busy at like 6:15 pm

Rude and indifferent staff, the place is openly unfriendly. Just yesterday I had a confrontation with a miserable and rude staff member, specially taking in consideration it was an older man.

They've done an absolutely fantastic job facing and overcoming this pandemic, and clearly show they've put time and care into how to accommodate their community safely and happily! Couldn't be more impressed!

I used to love this gym until the experience that I had at the front desk with a Hispanic woman working there today. She was condescending, rude, brash and having an immature power trip. Apparently the price for the month to month membership when up by $20. She failed to explain that to me correctly. Most of the people at that desk aren t on the same page with that Membership program. I was telling her how I used to pay $111 every month for the past 3 years whenever I m in Oakville and not travelling. She would yell a hard NO over and over while shaking her head like as if I was in grade school being yelled at by a nasty disgruntled teacher having a power trip. I told her I could show her my receipts to prove it and she still told me that I was wrong. Finally I said fine let s just do it on debit then. She then was refusing to allow me to pay debit which I ve always done. She also said I would only get the membership until the end of the month which is not true it s 30 days. When another woman at the desk allowed me to pay with debit the price when up another $10 to $132. Even though that s a little steep for a ymca gym membership I was ready to pay it. However the way this nasty Hispanic woman was speaking to me it just didn t feel right to Go through with it because then it would have made it ok for her to talk to people like that and that wasn t ok so I said forget it. I was fired up but still calm on the outside. I grabbed my stuff and left. To make matters worse she held onto my drivers license and wouldn t give it back to me like a child would do unless I paid her $15 for a day pass. They had problems with their system when I tried paying when I arrived and they told me to go in and we ll solve it later when they were less busy so that s on them. I told her that she needs to give me back my property otherwise she would have big problems. It was getting heated and no surrounding staff would support her so she finally gave me back my drivers license. She behaved like a complete immature 12 year old. As I was leaving she was yelling at me. I was so fired up I was ready to physically defend myself if any of them put their hands on me while walking out of there. What business or company treats their customers like that? She needs a lesson on customer service and addressing customers in a respectable fashion.

Booking a bday party proved to be beyond frustrating. There isn't anyone to talk to and no one returns the messages. I would cancel in a heartbeat if I had time to plan somewhere else. unfortunately it's too close to the date and I'm stuck. what a disappointing experience and the lack of responsibility from employees is beyond normal.

I really disliked this ymca, the service is horrible and I drove an hour because of the children's pool, they always change their schedule, and they NEVER pick up their phone, I called three times, and nobody answered, very frustrated, with a 10 month baby driving back for nothing. I really feel like they don't show any initiative towards people coming to enjoy their time and I personally think that they should step their service up.

There's a fair amount of racial discrimination which makes this place repulsive. From the receptionist who will repeatedly forget to greet you while she would promptly wish the guy right ahead (its just happenstance that he's white) to the janitor who will constantly stare at you in the premium men's lounge, they probably don't want you here if you're colored.

My 6 year old had a near drowning incident on March 28, 2019. He was taking his swimming lessons when the instructor failed to notice that he went under water. This was such a traumatizing incident for my 6 year old and now he doesn t want to go near water. They should have a better student instructor ratio and more observant team to prevent such life and death incidents.

My teenager son and I enjoy to go to YMCA. It is there where he has learned how to swim. Now he builds his muscles in the gym. I think it is an excellent facility. The staff is always very friendly. The lifeguards in the pool are always vigilant and simply fantastic. I love the place!

Considering the amount of traffic and the response level of the staff, I am probably wasting time. But here goes. I have repeatedly complained, through two notes, once directly to staff and subsequently, when having no response at all, with a public note, about the numerous nesting birds under the eaves on the west side of the building. Contact Halton Health and they say there is a town bylaw, and the town says the bylaw doesn't apply (something that seemed obvious to me at first) and there is nothing to worry about because the brood will be leaving soon. But there a pile of crap on the window and I am sure inside the walls. What would Peter Gilgen think? I don't think I'll make my comment, he is too busy building boxes....

When I called Pam Damoff she asked me if I considered cancelling my membership.. I asked her if she was serious. Is that an appropriate response to a serious concern I had! I think not. Maybe she is too tired to deal with public concern.

I'm always trying to find out wether free swim is open. Sometimes it never says on the schedule. When I call they never pick up. It is absolutely frustrating driving there and coming back with no swimming done. Please pick up your phone more often.

Review regarding the swimming classes for children.
I would just say it's a joke what's happening there. Your children will never learn how to swim if you send them there. Most children swim only to the the side line not even across the pool. That's not enough to even properly open the arms to try to swim. The classes are overcrowded and the teachers doesn't seem to know what they are doing.
The little pool where the smaller children are learning it's dangerous for them. I've seen few little ones going under the water level where instructor haven't even notice them. It looked so dangerous!
The life guards instead of watching the pool are doing some paper work or helping the instructors in the classes!

Clean facility, good collection of equipments, great indoor walking/running track. I cancelled my membership because crowded fitness classes. You have to come early as 15-20 mins on evening classes. Also, their badminton courts are good but I had bad experience with other players who play within their level of play group.

Yesterday, July the 19-th around 3 p.m. myself and my son, 12, we went to have fun swimming at YMCA in Oakville. We had - both of us - flippers, and we swam several lengths together using those floating pads as well. At a moment, while swimming, one of the young ladies on the margin - a life guard - stopped us and asked how old is my son. Twelve he said. And was OK, we continued our length. There were other kids doing the same, swimming in "deep water". Later I let my son swim with the pad and his flippers a full length alone. Other kids of around his age were doing the same. At his return, he was stopped again by a life guard - the same teenager with round glasses - and asked to take a swim test if he wants to go to "deep water". Well, the manner to stop a kid in the middle of the pool - he was effectively in the middle of the pool - and ask him to take the "test" was totally arrogant, totally impolite, and harassing. She could come at the margin of the pool at his arrival and discuss there her concerns, not over the pool, with a swimming kid. We went there to have fun, not to be harassed by narcissistic life guards. So, after a half an hour we've been enough and we left. In all pools we have to take a "swim test"? He took several "swim tests" before, in other pools when he was younger. Now I just stopped my son being abused - I repeat - by these arrogant individuals. They saw him swimming several lengths, I have been watching him continuously, but the life guards frustration is BIG and they have to SHOW how "important" they are. If YMCA was willing to rumble my day, they were successful.

I do NOT recommend this pool to kids and to anyone who want to spend some nice hours. They are NOT polite.

Good amount of high quality machines. Good free weights. Good range of dumbbell weights, though only one set of each (from 5 to 100, jumping by 2.5 until around 60). Need more kettleballs, too few and big jumps between weights. Mostly clean. Mostly organized. Good pool. Doesn't get crowded too often.

Staff are mostly nice and helpful, though the front desk staff look like they hate their lives and it's a chore talking to some of them. The other people are all friendly, had strangers spot me a couple of times and they seemed happy to help. Sometimes teens (like 14 -16) come up to the gym, not sure if they're allowed to be there or what. Watched 3 of them try to set up a rack to do bench press and they just couldn't. It was embarrassing, I hope they don't hurt themselves.

Got a gymnasium, rock climbing wall, bouldering wall, a bunch of programs for both kids and adults, premium change rooms with a hottub, coffee, towels, sauna, etc. I haven't tried any of that stuff so I can't speak for it.

Decent price, more so if you sign up your whole family or are a student.

Facilities: The facilities are great but not maintained well e.g. I regularly spend abt 5mins or so hopping from one treadmill to another to find that actually works.

Staff: THIS is their biggest issue. The staff has an apathetic and rude attitude towards patrons. They clearly take their patrons for granted. If you make the mistake of asking a question to the front desk staff, they make it clear that you interupted their gossip session.

Classes: Variety of classes mostly geared towards seniors. The main issue is that trainers are prone to being tardy or not showing up at all without notice. This can be a huge inconvenience if you've planned your day accordingly and drive all the way down for a class.

Cost: Costs about $90 for two people, which is affordable but not a great deal like some of the other gyms.

Verdict: Staff needs a bit of a wake up call from management, which brings down the whole experience.

Mediocre service, hard to get ahold of anyone by phone (and when you do no one ever has the answer it seems), swim instructors are just ok, rock climbing instructors are pretty good, very small changerooms and lockers, the drop in program for young kids has gone downhill. Overall - leaves me underwhelmed in pretty much every area.

The big pool gets filthy. To the point I just didnt go..that's when I was a member. And I swam in many pools. Now I just come once in a while when in the area. The kids pool is ok but the lifeguard was unfriendly and not letting my son go up and down the ramp (it wasn't even busy), while that's not a problem in other pools. Other lifeguard kept putting toys away while kids swim is not over. Plus they charge for each child. Overall, while the general facilities are good, the overall feel of the place is not something I'd pay a membership for.

Staff members at the reception there look and talk to people like criminals or maybe that s how they just look and talk to me, I only go there because there weight room and the equipments are nice but the people who you literally see right you go into the building are absolutely not welcoming, but the gym staff upstairs are nice, but the reception staff are pretty rude, manipulative, and they won t let you finish your sentence, I m considering to look into other gyms if I m being honest.

Just started our summer with St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School - YMCA and within couple days my child got kicked (for 2 days in a row by the same child), then another day somebody "accidentally" threw stuff at him, then hit him in his hand... Teachers don't do anything to prevent and stop this bully behavior. I worry to make sure my kid doesn't become target for this kind of kids behavior..since he is the most friendly, bright and intelligent kid in his class.
Very upset by the kids crowd and stuff unprofessionalism out there.

Total criminals! Put my membership on hold and they took my access card. 8 months later I see they've been billing me for the last 4 months without any notice. I didn't even have the card to access the club. Nice of a Christian organization that steal people's money. Told to go screw myself when asked for the money back.

I think that SOME of the staffs at the Y at the Rebecca location are very pleasant and very helpful! The only issue I have, which is a big one for me is the child minding staffs and hours.I think the evening staffs are more engaging and attentive to the needs of the children and the parents .Child minding is not available on Thursday and Friday evenings.. and when it is available the service ends at 3 pm and starts back a 6 pm that's a BIG gap! Most members need child minding between 3- 6. Also they close Saturdays at noon when it is much needed for the whole day . I think the child minding service should be available Monday - Saturday so parents have freedom to exercise without worries. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT IN THAT AREA... Other than that I think they have some amazing staffs working there, especially at the front desk .\

This is a place me and my family have been members of for a very long time (I originally became a member in 2002), and it has been a wonderful place to come. Many of the programs such as the Taekwondo programs and the swimming lessons are really well run. The atmosphere of the gym is a nice one to workout at. When comparing the amount of equipment to my current university gym, the Y does have less variety, but it is working with a smaller space than my university gym. It'd be cool if chalk could be added to the gym and available to lifters who can use it when needed, such as going for a deadlift PR. I've made many friends here, and I look forward to being there each time I am there, and enjoy it when I am there

I wish that there was structure in some of the activities. For example, for every other YMCA i have attended the Badminton is run by staff. People need to sign up for time to play on a court so everyone has a chance to play. Here, its a free fr-all and if you are not outspoken sometimes you dont get to play.

Otherwise, i love this gym, the staff and the kids activities
