So fun! Snow monkeys! Lovely guide. Beautiful hike...
So fun! Snow monkeys! Lovely guide. Beautiful hike. Wear appropriate shoes.
So fun! Snow monkeys! Lovely guide. Beautiful hike. Wear appropriate shoes.
Walk the short trail to the monkeys is an enjoyable time. The monkeys itself are not afraid of humans so you better take care. Don't feed them or show up any food that you want to eat!
One of the best experiences we had in Japan. The walk is awesome through the forest and at the end you get to see some monkeys. You can get right up to them. Even if theres no snow on the ground you're sure to see lots of monkeys hanging in their Onsen! Definitely worth the trek!
It was great to go there at the time. You couldn't go to the place if the car with snow tires and traction was on top of so much snow. The best and having entered the onsem and having bathed with them
Make sure you wear proper walking shoes and be prepared for them to get muddy as you trek up a dirt trail to Snow Monkey Park! Costs 800yen to get in. Best time to visit - winter, between the hours of 9am to 11am! Any other times and you may be disappointed.
Pretty cool to be able to walk around between the monkeys. Really cool experience.
I was impressed when I saw a monkey who used a hot spring for the first time! Little monkey, cute! But watch out for droppings on the road.
Monkeys are really cute because they do not run away and are eager for their work.
Coming out of season means barely any snow and a lot of brown everywhere, but still an enjoyable walk through pine forest and there were plenty of monkeys to get close (but not too close) to. Monkeys seem unphased by people and despite warnings to stay away, monkeys would occasionally run through the groups. We didn't get to see them bathe, I guess it wasn't cold enough or the right time of day, but they were sitting on the side drinking and playing so still managed a few good photos. The staff throw seeds to attract the monkeys to the area so it's not completely 'wild'. Lots of mum monkeys carrying babies around, very cute. Would be better in winter or peak summer.
Great place. You get close to the monkeys even during summer
That's pretty nice, you can really see snow monkeys and be amongst them
However when I have been there, the park was under construction so you couldn't do much except walking 200m in the park, watch monkeys and leave. So it was slightly expensive for the experience. After if he can help to preserve the monkey then that's worth it
Picturesque and very beautiful park that you can not miss if you are in Tokyo. Jigokudani, means "Valley of Hell", in reference to steam and boiling water that gushes from small fissures in the frozen ground, surrounded by steep stone walls and cold and hostile forests. To get to the place you have to walk 1.8 kilometers from the bus stop. The place is very beautiful.
The snow monkey park is a bus ride away from Nagano station and the walk from the stop is clearly marked in English for tourists. The monkeys are definitely fun to see in their own element without much barrier between you and the monkeys.
Easy to access and it's funny to see monkeys playing in the water
Bit of a tourist trap, but a good up close experience.
Monkey do not get into hot spring unless it is winter (or cold enough).
Monkey walk around people, fight each other, eat and drink. Place is a bit smelly, as they leave droppings all throughout the park.
Will need to do an easy-moderate 18km hike to get there from the bus stop.
There are many wild monkeys, don't feed it or watch her
It is a wonderful place where you can see wild monkeys. There are quite a lot of foreign tourists.
In winter, I walk about 30 minutes from the parking lot, and if there is snow, the road is bad, so I think you should go as it is.
The walk to the park is quite spectacular but the actual park wasn t that great.
It's pretty far away from Nagano station, about 45 minutes via express bus, and closes at 4:00. There is about 30 minutes of walking to get to the actual monkeys, so you should go earlier verses later. The day pass is worth it since you can More
Definite thing that should be done when going to Japan. The walk through the snow up to the monkey park is lovely and seeing the monkeys in the snow is such an iconic image. You will likely be told it is cheaper to get the 2 day pass for the park this is true especially if you are planning on doing any if the other sites around nagano as well.
We had a tough hike in heavy snow. It being April, we also came ill-equipped. No worries, though, there is a place to rent boots, coats and pretty much anything else. The hike was great, the forest magical and the host snow monkeys a delight.
If you're around the Nagano prefecture it's worth a detour. The little town of Yudenaka is friendly and quaint and has some really good places to eat.
Worth it, once in your life please have a chance to visit
It s also interesting to see monkeys up close.
During winter, the road is closed, so you will have to walk on the mountain road for a while. It is difficult to walk especially when it is snowing.
Getting there is half the adventure
There are monkeys and you will see monkeys on the Park
Do obey the rules as you walk the 2km track to the onsen where the monkeys are.
I feel coming in winter is the best way to enjoy the ethos of this adventure
Nice place to see the snow monkeys.
The monkeys are very used to people. They act as if they didn't see people.
Usually they go around looking for some food. I suppose someone spread some seeds to keep they around there for the tourists.
There is a 1mile walk way to get to the monkey park.
More touristic than really nature. But very nice
Very incomprehensible comedy light scenery!
Snow scenic Beautiful, Japan There are places in various places, it is very cute! 9 (' ' *)
slightly overpriced, there is a small bath, next to which run macaque, surrounded by dozens of tourists. Dirty, slippery, everywhere excrement and hissing guards. The photos are difficult to make because of the people around, a couple above the water and a long distance to the monkeys.
The monkeys let us wait quite a while but in the meantime we waited inside the entrance station so we didn't catch too much cold. When we were almost on our way back, a bit disappointed as the monkey didn't show, one of the staff members advised us to go back because they were spotted on the way to the pool. Afterwards it was an incredible rush of a hundred or more small and noisy monkeys carrying their babies and running up, down, left and right all around us
I've been to this spot many times and am a life member of the park!! Totally worth a visit.
Don't worry there won't be monkeys - there are lots of them !
Visited Nov 18 no snow but it was a nice day a lot of monkeys were there! So definitely don't be afraid to visit in November - like others suggested you check out live web cam stream of the park on the day or days prior to see if monkeys are present.
Walk about 30 minutes to go.
On snowy roads, shoes should be boots or snow boots.
There are many monkeys worth walking!
Lots of monkeys. There are no seasonal hot springs, but you can see many monkeys and their parents.
Superb area - we took the public bus from Nagano station to the Snow Monkey Park (1400 Yen) then walked to the Snow Monkey Park (800 Yen). The trail is not steep until the steps at the end, but very icy and whilst we laughed at a shop renting wet weather gear, boots and even crampons, this is pretty much essential gear if the snow is falling.
The park is initially a bit of an anticlimax. We were there in February with most of the snow gone, but still very icy underfoot. Even on a quiet day the park was almost overrun with humans, poking cameras at the monkeys from every angle. The monkeys however just got on with their daily life.
The park is small and crowded. Dozens if not hundreds of snow monkeys come to the park every day - they are not in some giant cage - encouraged by a little food to help them forage. Human food is strictly forbidden.
So yes - worth a visit - but the surrounding area has much more to offer than the Snow Monkey Park. Even the little train from Yudanaka Station (an easy walk downhill from the money park (1 hour)) is very quirky and will take you back to Nagano in comfort. However a night or two in Yadanaka or the surrounding onsen towns will show you a side of rural Japan.
The monkey is quite used to people and is cute. You can enjoy it even when you are not immersed in the hot spring.
It was interesting. It's more interesting to go when it's snowing in winter
Because monkeys are fed, there is a question mark as to whether it is completely wild, but in any case it is a precious park where you can see the monkeys' free behavior.
The expression and gestures of monkeys in hot springs look just like humans and look back on me.
I heard from the inn people that monkeys do not enter the hot springs on warm days, but come to the hot springs on cold days, so it is best to aim for cold days.
A really fantastic place to visit - definitely worth the effort.
To get there, you need to walk for about 30 mins along a snowy path, so keep that in mind. Try to leave yourself as much time as possible for the hot spring - the monkeys are always doing different things and you'll be able to watch them for hours! :) The crowd numbers change too, so it's nice to have some of time with a good view at the front. The animals come really close!
Must have snow on the ground and be snowing out to make it truly worth the picture perfect trip. Spirited incline walk"that is short hike" so be prepared to break a mild sweat before you get there. Equal number of people to monkeys (if not more) so be prepared your overall views may not match the zoomed in postcard shots.
I went for monkeys, I got monkeys. Just don't feed them.
The road is narrow and it is hard to go by car. We walk considerably from parking lot. It wasn't cold, but I was lucky to see the hot springs.
It is a nice, albeit rather small place. There are many monkeys also in summer, with the young ones playing around. A very nice view too!
Fun destination, but i wish the monkey took a bath in the hot tub
It takes about 30 minutes to the monkey hot spring. In winter it's a pretty snowy road.
Natural monkeys live normally. The appearance of taking a hot spring is also cute
So, many, monkeys! What more can I say? The park is beautiful even without the monkeys, so it's a good hike on its own. Then BAM they're everywhere.
A facility with a natural hot spring for the famous world first monkey. There are more foreigners than Japanese people than monkeys. Boots are indispensable as we walk about 2km along the snowy road to the entrance. (There was also a rental facility at the entrance.) By the way, you can't see the scenery where monkeys enter the hot springs in summer, so it's winter if you go.
Lovely walk to see the snow monkey's, sadly none of them were in the hot pool at the time of our visit. Fascinating creatures.
The snow monkeys may not want to dip in the hot springs unless the surroundings are very cold with a good amount of snow cover, so if that's what you're after, plan your trip for the right weather!
Nice exit the monkeys were not there it does not matter we do not order there nature the place and nice
The walk in the forest to the entrance gate is lovely, but very, very cold and icy footpath. Make sure you wear your warmest long jacket, gloves and good snow boots. Crampons to stick under your shoes are for hire at the beginning of the park, for those who might be prone to slipping and losing their balance on the snow and ice. The path is an easy grading, not to steep, except for a few sets of steps at the end.
Everyone adores those monkeys, so it's very worthwhile to visit! There were about 50 monkeys there at one stage, though none of them felt like taking a bath that day. They did sit by the hot spring and warmed themselves from the radiation of the hot water and the steam...
Fantastic wildlife park. Very respectful to the beautiful forests and wild monkeys. Super chilled monkeys (in comparison to Bali monkey parks). Went on ski japan snow monkey tour which was amazing. 10/10 would recommend.
Amazing walk, however, it takes around 30 minutes to get to the monkeys, and it is all up hill. It could be quite demanding if you're not fit or have some phisycal restrictions.
The good part is that in order to feed the monkeys, you go inside a house and the monkeys stay free in the Park area. Great!
Awesome place to see the snow monkeys just chilling out
A well worth 1.6 km trek to see the many snow monkeys
Note that the monkeys only bathe in the hot spring when it is cold outside (i.e. Winter time) but it is still good fun to wander through the park and watch them monkeying around. Arrived about 15 minutes after opening time but it was still quite busy but I imagine it would be even busier later in the day with day trippers from afar arriving at the park. Good informative exhibits scattered throughout as well.
Most foreign tourists are the only place in the world where monkeys can see hot springs.
You walk on a narrow mountain road for 30 minutes from the parking lot, but you need shoes that are easy to walk because it is muddy and the cliff side freezes and slips.
It is fun to observe the monkeys' natural state.
We really enjoyed it, except for the moment with food. Especially nowhere to eat because of the high prices for dishes that are visually not worth it.
There are many monkeys and they are not afraid of people at all. Crowds of tourists walk quietly between the legs. It s worth a look once. The second time I would not have gone. Still far from Tokyo.
You can observe the monkey as it is.
They are grooming, sleeping a little, and the monkeys are playing. And at the back of the park is an open-air bath that has become famous for commercials where monkeys use mobile phones. That took a tourist's cell phone and just took a bath.
When I went in late June, I was immersed in several bathtubs.
Please be aware that Hun is often rolling on the road.
If you like monkeys, you will love this!!! Long walk up about 1.5km through slippery surface so make sure you're wearing gear suitable for snow and ice. Excellent photo opportunities.
The road is very muddy, it is easy to slip, it is recommended to nail
Couldn't be better. After a 2km walk up hill in the snow (Don t attempt this unless you are fairly fit) We came to the hot spring and there were dozens of snow monkeys (Japanese Macacs) Spent a wonderful 2 hours in the snow.
In an ecosystem of snow ape symbiosis, an observer can observe the monkeys' living habits and resuscitation nearby. Let more people go outdoors and enjoy nature. In addition to snow apes in this area, there are amphibians in this activity !! PS: It is recommended that friends who come here in winter can carry simple nail claws, especially those with children traveling with them. Self-driving friends can use the postal code: 381-0401 to enter navigation
A nice walk in the woods, up to the area where there are monkeys that live free ..
Monkeys enter the bath around the year.
Although it is famous during the winter. Summer is the time of the year where you can see a lot of baby monkey .They are all cute. This place was nice. However becareful since there can be a lot of feces on the ground.
Was a 40 minute walk from main road to monkey park over icey path but only due to conditions of recent. Monkeys were very happy and easy to photograph.
Beautiful scenery, and many monkeys. But the road is too rough.
Lots of monkeys... Tame too. Bit of a trek to get there. Bring shoes that have grip for snow and ice
I love seeing the snow monkeys. This year it's become a whole lot more crowded though. Expect lots of tourists. And it's a helluva lot better when it's actually snow up there.
My mom and I stayed at Korakukan Inn. We arrived 2 hours late because we got so lost and the hosts were understanding and incredibly nice. Meals were made and served to us for dinner and breakfast. Authentic Japanese food! The onsen hot springs were available to use it any time during the day or night. The snow monkeys explore around the inn as well! The Snow Monkey park is right by the inn and there were hundreds of adorable monkeys! They were quite cooperative and I felt safe the entire time. The mountains were breathtakingly beautiful. I would definitely come back here.
Super cute monkeys of various sizes and ages bathing in the hotspring and around you...a must go place in your life
The monkey park is quite small and the visit there is fast however the walk there takes some time. The monkeys are walking freely around the are which gives many photo opportunities but if I would guess I only think they bath during the winter when it's cold. Non of them were bathing during our visit which was a sunny day in April.
Since I can see monkeys in various places now, I wasn't really expecting too much, but it was good to go as a result. With the snow falling, when an oncoming car comes in, drive on the end of a winding mountain path (the car is covered in mud), and walk from the parking lot on a road that gets wet further into the mountain. This is also one of memories.
The monkey taking a bath in the hot spring was relieved with a seemingly incomprehensible look. If you run around your feet, you will come close to it. There was no such thing as I was scared at all.
The nearest parking lot is 500 yen, 800 yen for admission. If it is ok to walk for 20 to 30 minutes, there is also a free parking lot at a distance.
Great experience seeing the snow monkey in the onsen.
Very cool experience that you can't get elsewhere (at least not easily)... Scenic forest walk up of about 1.6km, and monkeys everywhere once you arrive. You're literally kinda just plopped down in the middle of their lives, so you get to see everything from grooming, to fights and everything in between. We had two younger ones screaming at each other on either side of the path we were on.
The monkey walks by the foot or appears on the head.
It is the monkey park.
I wanted to take a bath together, but I was abandoned. (Lie)
The walk to reach the park is pretty. We really have the impression of entering the world of monkeys. The park is unfortunately too small.
Spot Jigokudani monkey who wants to go in the winter
I came to Yamanouchi-cho to head to the duke.
It's early morning when you come here, or after snowboarding
This was the former one this time in the evening.
Park your car in the free private parking lot and walk around 1600m
Let's walk the road.
8:56 Wild Monkey Park Management Office
Opening 9 o'clock At this point 6 people have already entered
I was waiting for you.
I can see the open-air bath of the back dressing room from here well
But no one was bathing.
Because of that, monkeys go all the way to the public bath area
It is moving. Is this a work scene?
You probably know about 9 o'clock feeding time
right. But what do you understand with no clock?
Is the entrance fee 800 yen not too expensive? surely
Midwinter, where you can see a scene where a monkey is bathed in hot water
In seasons not bathed in hot water, the number of visitors
There is a big difference, but at 800 yen for 1000 people 80
It is a huge raging business with 10,000 yen sales
Ne.
It was opened as scheduled.
Although the building is also an office, documents, photographs, etc.
It is on display, but I do not think that it is professional production
Yes. The hall is free wifi and wifi mark
It's interesting to have a monkey face.
There is a souvenir corner though it is small, but
The degree of completion of the souvenir is not good enough. Buy only here
I want something not.
I'm finished here because there is no restroom
Let's go.
Today the temperature is a bit high and it's sunny and the snow dances
It is not likely. The monkey sees any expression
Can you let me go?
It's worth a visit, but if the weather is not very cold, the monkeys don't soak in the soup, and the ice on the road should be slippery.
From the parking point walk up quite far, but not over the steep road. This monkey is really messy.
It is easy to see monkeys, not easy to see them soaking in hot springs.
No monkeys at the park when we went... :( The hike was nice, but there's better places to hike, so be aware!
Monkeys are too cute but a good walk, advise using sheo spike during the snow season due to black ice.
You walk right between the monkeys! Fun to watch them play!
