We had a tough hike in heavy snow. It being April, we also came ill-equipped. No worries, though, there is a place to rent boots, coats and pretty much anything else. The hike was great, the forest magical and the host snow monkeys a delight.

If you're around the Nagano prefecture it's worth a detour. The little town of Yudenaka is friendly and quaint and has some really good places to eat.
