Food was great. A bit crowded for our taste but despite that would definitely go again! In fact, planning on it. Everything was wonderful.

Great contemporary spot for some skewers and drinks. Restaurant and bar downstairs. Karaoke room and lounge upstairs. Tough on parking though but what do can I expect from the chinatown area.
Food was okay. This place is more of a late night bar than a sushi restaurant.
Great food and drinks at amazing prices. I recommend a group of 4, sitting for a while, and sharing.
I had a good time. Service was a bit slow, but friendly and the sushi is tiny but the prices are decent. The karaoke is very fun to watch!
Best in Chinatown, I go here at least a few times a year.
One of the go-to spots in Philadelphia for karaoke. Yakitori Boy also has great drinks that will loosen you up to belt out your favorite tune. Should you get hungry they serve eclectic tapas.
Yakitori Boy bills itself as a "Japas"or Japanese tapas restaurant. Like others, they serve small Japanese inspired plates as well as sushi and yakitori. They yakitori, while quite varied, could be better and a bit more authentic. Their drinks are similarly uninspired and seem more in line with their karaoke bar upstairs. The place is definitely pricey: you get up sold on both the "Japanese" and the novelty of the tapas.
Binge watched too many Japanese shows on Netflix. Had to try. Pretty great. Excellent service.
Fun time but oaying for karaoke seems aottle ridiculous. Especially when we only got sing one song. Wont be back
The service was good and the food was great. Good selection for late night restaurant week!
Most of the song choices were covers of original songs
I celebrated my birthday at this awesome establishment! Private room! Thank you for a wonderful evening! Great selection of songs. Sound was great. System was intuitive and easy to use. Food was absolutely positively delicious! Fresh yummy sushi! Used the prefix menu and ate like royalty. Food delivered when we showed up. I highly recommend ordering beforehand. So convenient. Service was very good especially given a busy Friday night. Also, private rooms are great. Check the place out in person to make sure the room will fit your group. Will definitely be back! Shout out to Tami for communicating details before the party and facilitating smooth check in! Thank you!
Awesome food and great place to sing karaoke upstairs.
Recently visited here in January for a get together with my coworkers. I m not going to lie the idea of American karaoke in a Japanese establishment kind of through me off, but I m so happy I decided to give this place a try. The food was great, they offer a pretty wide range of different Japanese dishes. Staff were super friendly and accommodating especially my waiter ( black guy with dreads ). Private rooms upstairs for you and your friends or family to sing your fav songs! Super clean. Wide range of songs. Although the selection could be better you will find something that you like to sing. Parking is madness you will most likely have to park in a lot especially if you go on the weekend. In my personal opinion the prices were reasonable. Very clean inside. The warm sake is phenomenal! It s just a super fun chill place for friends and family to have some fun. Definitely recommended!
Tuesday $1 skewers is worth it. $20 gets 2 beers and skewers of your choose.
Went there for a birthday event. Great music selection.
Yakitori is an awesome spot, situated on the fringe of Chinatown, for all day Asian bar bites with a sizable drink selection and karaoke. While I haven t tried the karaoke, the restaurant concept is definitely a favorite in this area when it comes to late night grub and a solid balance of quality and variety.
The dining area is dimly lit with a modern, sleek feel. Service is quick, attentive, and relatively friendly. Their menu is packed with a vast selection of dishes ranging from noodles to sushi to tempura. Most everything is priced and portioned was a small plate to enable you to order and taste a little of everything. Skewers are the clear highlight for value and flavor. I highly recommend the quail eggs wrapped in bacon. Warning: there are three per order so you ll want more than one skewer!
They do offer a full drink menu as well. Beer selection isn t impressive for craft beer enthusiasts, but it s priced appropriately. The wine and cocktail list provide plenty to pick from.
Overall, great choice for a casual, fun night out with adventurous eaters or late night food and drink!
The food was excellent. I ordered ahead and they had it ready early, the server was super nice. I'll be ordering from there again.
Went there for a work party and we all really enjoyed ourselves! Definitely want to go back!
Very accomadating... I went with 10 ppl (5 adults, 4 16yo, 1 4yo) for my daughters 16th bday. they had booked us in a room that was big enough for 8-10ppl, but when I saw the size of it I asked if there were any other rooms available. Jessica showed us our options and for an extra$15 per hour were upgraded and it was a good decision. The deal was if we spent $60 per hour in food, the room ($40/hr) was free... and we got that easily (our check was $290 incl tip) Sunday nights are the only nights under 21yo can go into the karaoke rooms. We made a 3 hour res and it was perfect to eat and have enough time to sing! We were able to bring in our own cake too. The food was ok, lots to choose from and quick to appear, I just didn't think it was special. The atmosphere was the real star. Lots of songs to choose from, but some of them were true karaoke where another artist sang the song and some didn't offer the background vocals at all but for the most part every song we wanted was available. The system was a little complicated but the waitress (and rick) were more than happy to repeat instructions. I'd definitely do this again... we're had an amazing time. The employees (Alexa I think) were really helpful over the phone when I was planning... and they were even better in person.
Husband tool me here for some sushi and I have been travel from NJ to Philly ever since for my sushi. Best sushi hands down and their Tokyo tea is sure to have you buzzing!!
Go the HOWLING MOON or TANGO for karaoke. It Pains me to have to leave Yakatori Boy a bad review, especially since at one point in time this was my favorite karaoke spot. I hadn't been in a while so a couple friends and I went last night. It was the worst experience. We got there early so that we could sing our songs, then when other ppl get there they'll push our songs to the back because we have sung enough and they are giving other ppl a chance. That policy in itself is ridiculous, the songs aren't free, if they didn't get there early, the early comers shouldn't have to suffer because they are trying to "mix" it up. They pushed our songs so far to the back we ended up having to get our three songs we put in hours before, back so that we could leave. We had been there since 8, out all of our songs in before 9, and by 11 we still had 3 songs left that we had to take because he put that many ppl in front of us. In the past if I told the yakatori DJs we are about to leave they'll put some on, not the DJ last night , gave us the song tickets back and a fake "I'm sorry". And don't even get me started on the table and chairs debacle ........
We got a really small room, the machine broke twice, the drinks were expensive but we had a lot of fun and were compensated for our time lost. Just be prepared for what you're getting into.
Service wasn't so hot, food was pretty good, but the prices were steep. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back outside of karaoke.
The lobsters were good, but the grilled meat needed more fire and spices.
I love the service and the venue. But every food and every drink item not tasty to me. I kept having to order more food because I was hungry from not eating the food that I ordered. Ended up spending lots of money and hungry :(
Been coming here since college days, love that it hasnt changed a bit. Best happy hour spot in chinatown
Internationals and visa-status customers beware. My Italian friend was denied entry into this bar because she did not have her passport. We're out drinking and visiting Philly on a Saturday - we don't carry documents this sensitive. They would not accept her Italian identification card that states she was of age.
Absolutely terrible management of the situation. Will never go back and will strongly tell people to go elsewhere like Tango if they want karaoke.
Fun place but what s up with the hostess at the front? Why the bad attitude? You guys should replace her someone more friendly greet customers. She s the worst.
Food is okay. Love the skewers, soup and salad. Upstairs could be a little more diverse but I guess it depends on the crowd. The DJ upstairs will sometimes pick songs ahead of others that have been on the queue for longer. Waited almost an hour to get to a song request when people who arrived after got there sing played first. Overall a decent experience
The booking staff was super nice, but the security was really rude to us in our private room. Been to many small room karaoke places but no reason to be rude. Cool how you could sing on big screen altogether in the main bar!
This is a great restaurant and bar. The karaoke is really fun but it can take a long time for your song to come up as it's often crowded.
Very affordable night out, even with kareokeing included!
Really fun time with friends! We had quick, attentive service. The rooms could be cleaner though.
Good experience. Delicious grill delicious sushi and a great service. Great for large group to share plates.
Absolutely horrible experience here !! I had my State-Issued ID snapped in half by the bouncer upon entering. I demanded to speak to the manager to be reimbursed for the cost of an ID replacement. The manager was not only unapologetic, but also rude about the situation and denied me entry. So, now I'm left with my ID in pieces and am forced to come out of pocket for their carelessness. There is a lack of professionalism and accountability with this establishment and I would not recommend going here. EVER !!
I ve never had a bad experience at Yakitori Boy. The food is always delicious and the service is always quick. A great go to spot for sushi and calamari.
Nice ambiance and good selection of food. Prices are not outrageous which is always a plus. The also have karaoke
Such a fun atmosphere! There's a cool bar area upstairs where you can sing with your friends and grab drinks, but they also have a ton of private rooms as well (for the more shy groups). We had a group of about 15 on a Monday night and were out celebrating our friend's 21st birthday. We were greeted with smiles by both the bouncer and hostess. Our bartender was excellent and didn't bat an eye at our group being on the larger side. Next time definitely want to try out their food!
So the lounge with karaoke was nice, little too loud, but manageable. They seemed understaffed, and our service was intermittent and slow. Be aware, if you order normal sushi, it's 4 pieces for $3-4, not 6-8 for that price. Kind of annoying when it took 30mins to be brought out. Food was fine, it's a bar for the most part. Overpriced beer with little selection. You pay $2 per song to sing, which is fine, the playlist seemed pretty comprehensive and had a great selection. However, why I won't be coming back is partly for the above reasons and especially the biggest I issue I feel there is. We rented a large private room (15 person for $60/hr), only to find out that the playlist in the rooms was NO WHERE CLOSE to what the bar had. They system was straight from asia (2/3 English at best) and had maybe 2-3 songs for the big bands. No The Clash (which was played in lounge) or any of the other songs we heard after looking. Incredibly disappointing. The videos playing in the background were rather humorous (and distracting), as most were completely unassociated with the song or band. So, unless the playlists in the room are updated, won't be back. It's a shame, because it has such a high potential to be the best, if these issues were addressed.
I only really go here for the yakitori, but it is worth it everytime.
The food is absolutely delicious and while it can definitely add up if you're not careful, it's worth it.
Candlelit tables make for a good date.
The staff is always courteous, fast, and helpful. I rarely have to wait to get my order taken, or check delivered.
Small tables, ask for extra space if you plan on ordering multiple dishes/rolls to share for "elbow room"
Food comes out super fast , we even ordered more of of faves that came out fast too! Very dim lighting, but cute ambiance
Good fun! I would love to see a larger selection of songs though.
Do yourself a favor and and explore the world of yakatori. You will thank me.
The karaoke is fun but the restaurant is really good. They have a 6 dollar bowl of ramen that is super good
Good karaoke. If you plan on coming and not losing your voice, to quote a certain skeleton from a certain 2d video game, you're gonna have a bad time.
I went to Yakitori Boy for my 35th birthday with my friends ans co workers and we had a ball. The drinks and tge food was amazing. It felt like we tried almost everything on the menu and the host that was assigned to our room kept up with all the orders. I had reserved the 15-18 people roon from 5-7. The room comes with 2 microphones and a personal host who gets the foods and drinks. Booking the room was very simple as I did mine online. And they hold a card at the front desk when you arrive. You can pay with up to 5 payment options once the night is over. Everyone must have a valid id to enter the establishemnet. I will definitely go back and maybe do the general karoke as when I was leaving they looked like they were having a good time.
Fun vibe, good lighting, and awesome food! The skewers are all good, hard to go wrong. The ribeye was a standout.
Fast service, amazing private rooms, and friendly staff.
The food is delicious and inexpensive. The customer service is amazing. I've been here at least five times and I've never been disappointed. Great place to come with friends for a fun night out.The drinks are a little pricey. If you want more privacy, you can book a private room to sing karaoke and eat. It gets crowded in here so plan accordingly if you want to sit at the bar and eat.
Unique Japanese Restaurant in Chinatown,
Speciality in original Japanese Cuisine, and a lot of options, even to Bento, and drinks, liquor
Food is great drinks are good they could use a little updating with the music and space this particular time we went small like they just had mopped it smelt a bit damp but service was great they are very attentive and the price isn t too bad there is a parking garage nearby but we lucked up on street parking not too far from police district i would definitely go again they do have security check at the door
They've updated their equipment, but fail to play the correct version. This is karaoke...... Nobody wants to sing along with the artist. And music for karaoke just wasn't loud enough. The fill in music was loud.
Celebrated my birthday here and had a great time with my friends. My only issue was that our mics died and they need a broader genre of artists. Other than that....great atmosphere, great food, great time!!!
Ramen was OK. Gets really packed upstairs on weekends.
Song prices are ridiculous at the bar. Not sure they want people to sing - in response to the comment below. That is not quite true, we were forced to pay $5 for 3 songs when we only wanted to sing one
I work nearby this location in center city and order often. I have always done takeout so I can't comment on the restaurant interior but the food especially all types of sushi are of fine quality. Prices are reasonable too. Very enjoyable. I have been won over. A must for sushi fans. Enjoy
Lighting so dark couldn't see my menu. Food ok at best
Food was so and so atmosphere great for younger generations nice and friendly waiters and waitresses
Food is ok, but they got rid of DAM karaoke machine, making it impossible to find Japanese songs.
I love this place, the food is great, the staff is great and it's a great place for karaoke
Totally recommend this restaurant especially for late night. They have karaoke room upstairs. Food wise, love their meats on the sticks and sushi. Also love their kitchen food such as pork ramen, kutsudon, grilled fish, etc.
Ahh I like coming here but security is uncomfortably present.
Super fun...eat..drink and sing all at one place. Bar upstairs closes around 12:45
The private karaoke rooms are such a fun experience. Service was quick and attentive, the song choice technology was pretty user friendly, and they gladly accommodated a birthday cake. The food was good; i recommend the skewers over sushi.
Fun place for eating and singing. Downstairs they have a bar/restaurant where you can enjoy your yakitori "grilled skewers" as well as other fairly good items on the menu. The upstairs has a nice kareoke floor with a few private and cheap kareoke rooms you can pay hourly for a cheap price. There's a bar and skewers are also available upstairs.
Coming to the stage!!
Had a great time at Yakitori boy in philly. Attended a birthday gathering. We reserved a private room and its sound proofed and has selections for karaoke. We enjoyed a few hours of appetizers, drinks and song after song of our choosing. It was a very nice experience.
I came here with my husband and two other couples. The food is good but it can quickly get very expensive with drinks & the small plates. We spent $90 for just our meal & drinks and still were hungry when leaving. That being said, the sushi was very fresh & my husband enjoyed his salmon. The drinks tasted good also. I've done karaoke with friends here on a different occasion which was fun.
Upscale bar and Japanese restaurant that specializes in food on a stick (yakitori) and offers private karaoke room rentals for groups with full restaurant/bar service.
The food is great, and they have a good happy hour.
